FF5 Four Job Fiesta - Summer is the best. Decided to try a "classic" (FF1-styled) run, and I got a White Mage, a Black Mage, and two thieves. FML. Just beat the Ship Graveyard.

New Super Mario Bros Wii U - Played the first world and a half with Ciato and a friend. Lots of fun! Already seems much better than NSMB2, closer in quality to the first two games in the series. Some neat stage design so far.

FFX - Rage at Blitzball for a while.  Put Vita down and go make a drink while laughing scene happens.  Suddenly at Miihen High Road, have Auron, game is great again.  Up to Mushroom Road, going to enjoy Djose Temple and then the push to get Shiva.

Civ 5- Emperor MP with Snowfire. I played Venice on small continents. We won a domination victory. I used Great Gallaesses (Which are better than I expected, the extra attack is really noticeable) to capture Arabia, and then took out Korea because they completely ignored military. After that it just snowballed into a dom win. I pumped out a lot of science, Snowfire pumped out gold, culture, and religion.  I grabbed the Hanging Gardens, Oracle, Red Fort, and Effiel Tower for wonders.

I ended the game by sending five range four battleships after Edinburgh, which had 48~ defense. You can imagine how that went.

Double trade routes are outstanding in an MP game. Was able to ship a bunch of food to my nearly foodless capital (I had like five farms total), but was able to send hammers over to snowfire so he could wonder spam. I didn't use my extra trade routes much- I would've generated a fuck of a lot of gold if I did, but I was too busy pumping military early and happiness and science late for that.

Fun game. I really like water maps and Venice is mercifully easy on the micromanagement side of the game.

Child of Light - My, Aurora, that's an upgrade. Grefter is right about the temp PC - and nobody else could fill in -that- niche the way done there. I miss that slot already.

Grefter's reminding me I have an FF10 replay I'm not playing...I blame my brother.  He somehow finds a way to make whatever console I'm about to go on occupied and for the dumbest reasons too.

ANYWAY!!!

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror: I did...stuff in this game.  No really, I don't know what else to say; this game is completely non-linear and since it lacks any sort of "development" aspect like Metroid and Castlevania games have, there's nothing to stop you from doing things in spontaneous orders.  Not that this is a bad thing just makes the game weird.

I guess I could say I beat a giant golem version of Wispy Woods (...don't ask...), Master Hand (yes, THAT Master Hand), and Kracko.

Dark Souls:

Pyromancer makes bosses stupidly easy. Seath the Scaleless provided fewer deaths than the big ass clams outside his boss room. Failed to get the tail weapon but I don't care. After taking down Seath I went to the Demon's Ruins to unlock the shortcut and get the Sunlight Maggot. Upgraded my Pyro hand to +5, am at soul level 70, and have endurance maxed and Vit at 30. Thinking I could use more vit than more spells (there is a serious lack of pyromancies that I want at the moment, and the ones I want for PVP are not useful in PVE, so I have more than enough spell slots for now), or perhaps I should start pumping Dex to get faster explosions. Probably vit then Dex.

Probably will do optional areas I have already unlocked and then go back and do Izalith. The number of enemies who resist fire there is annoying but then I get another Pyromancy I kinda want (and can maybe use once I get more DEX), so that takes priority. I'm already locked out of the Darkwraithes so the 4 kings can wait til last.

BTW, once I have dried up their usefulness re: covenants, is there any reason to not kill The Fair Lady and the Darkmoon woman in Anor Londo for their sweet, sweet firekeeper souls? Like, I know it's a sin (oh no I may have to pvp more wow) but since i've already gotten the Fair Lady's pyromancy rewards and bought all I want off of Eignui, and don't really need the bonfire near Anor Londo anymore, I can't see it mattering any more this play through, but will it affect subsequent playthroughs?

As long as you don't care about the sin and don't need their bonfires, slaughter away.

You can give Anastacia's and the Darkmoon woman's to the Fair Lady for the same results.
No more Firelink bonfire but you're slightly less of a monster that way?

Pragmatically speaking, Firelink's the most useful of those bonfires to keep just because it's your closest starting point for Four Kings attempts (the alternative is the basin bonfire just outside of Valley of the Drakes; personally, I fucking hate fighting drakes and never take this route).

Mario Kart 8 - Trudging along. Got 3/8 3-starred 150 cc tracks. Such a beautiful, detailed game.

Super Mario World 2 - Beat the halfway boss of World 6. Raphael the Raven is basically the best.

Kid Icarus Uprising - Just beat Chapter 4. Strange mix of a shooter and an actiony game.

Trails in the Sky - Just picked up a school girl. Hopefully this time she isn't a douchecanoe.

She's not a douchecanoe, but she is kinda boring and low key. Good Useful PC though. There's a sword you can get fairly soon that'll make her your best physical and magical attacker for a good while.

Boring and low-key makes her by far the better character of the two you get in that chapter. <.<

FF5 - World 1 beaten, up to Drakenvale. No resets so far - black mage + white mage covers the bases well enough - but argh I am feeling the lack of offence from three of my four PCs right now. There are certainly no shortage of randoms (against higher def enemies or those who counter, etc.) where I have everyone defend/healstaff while Faris kills everything.

Suikoden Tactics - Getting competent PCs besides the first three has made the game notably easier. That and understanding the elemental panel system better. Currently three battles into my excursion of territory not seen in Suikoden IV.

20 Estus flask charges without having to pay up 3 humanity and you can warp to most bonfires you need to get to. Even without easy access to the Four Kings (which, yeah, I agree, fighting those drakes every time sounds like more trouble than it's worth... that said you can still warp TO the useless bonfire so that doesn't really count) it is clearly the most useful out of them all.

Agate isn't just a douchenozzle, he's also quite dense. And has a terrible habit of shouting phrases that would make most shounen anime rivals get embarrassed saying. ...he might be my favorite character (besides Estelle and Olivier). I just crack up every time he's on screen. I don't think he was intended this way in the original script but I feel like the localization team had fun with his dickish idiocy.

Usually I have paid for a Firelink Bonfire +3 way before I can actually get it for free.
There's all that humanity around and it's the most obvious bonfire to kindle.

For 4 Kings you can always go to another bonfire then teleport to Firelink everytime even if the bonfire is dead, I believe?
Which is a bit annoying but #getgud and you only need to do it once

Basically it's mostly a convenience thing. Firelink is very convenient, Anor Londo is slightly convenient, Spider lady bonfire is totally useless

Just got to Ch.3 - first thoughts: Tita is actually pretty cool for a child character. Not my favorite, but I was expecting to instantly hate her.

Super Mario World 2- Baby Bowser and Giga Baby Bowser have been vanquished and Baby Luigi has been saved. Fun little game, definitely not as good as the best entries into the Mario series but certainly a fine game. Very unhinged. I loved the drug-tripping fuzzies.

...Wait, I didn't even know the latter even happens. (Is it a reward for rezzing Ana?) I tend to manually max it out and then use it as my estus supply for the rest of the game (because I'm cheap and apparently don't mind load times).

FE Awakening Lunatic Casual - Completed.

Pretty tough as advertised. The earlygoing, especially chapter 2 (probably the hardest map in the game?) is of course some of the nastiest. I also had a lot of trouble with chapters 11, 14, 17, and 21. Final chapter also surprisingly nasty but I eventually hit on a good way to deal with it, engaging with the final on turn 2 and hunting down anyone who could use Physic with prejudice. Die, combat medics, die! Pretty sure I was playing as the good guys anyway.

Pointless unit commentary!

A * indicates a reclassing at between level 15 and 18 typically. For obvious reasons the precise level isn't too important past 15, so it's a matter of whenever it is convenient mostly.

Chrom - 20/*/4 Paladin, 130 kills - Solid. Benefitted a lot from having to survive every map, gave him a nice level push early before others could catch up. Had great strength and speed so could usually be counted on to kill things, and durable enough to not be a high priority for enemy targetting.

Robin - (F, Spd+, Skl-) 20/*/9 Dark Flier, 109 kills - I probably should have made her a Sorcerer but I didn't want to lean on that more than necessary. Anyway the speed was pretty great, and Veteran gave her a great early push. Spent a while as MVP in the early midgame. Later her level/kills fell off a bit as she ended up providing support for Tharja (who loved the speed/magic and had a shortage of other options) and did a lot of Rally Spectrum spam from Chapter 21 onwards.

Lissa - 20/15 Sage, 6 skills - Healbot (also Rescuebot). Lissa dies a lot but on Casual that mean Miracle is actually a decent skill. Anyway she was often able to take one hit (after the earlygame anyway) which is why she made the cut over Maribelle.

Frederick - 15 Great Knight, 49 kills - Most important PC in the game because he's the only person who can deal with horrifying chapter 2 enemies. Obvious MVP of that part of the game. Later on fits very nicely as a supporter for Sumia, who is kind of short on options and appreciates str/def/move. And hey he can use Hammer and Beastkiller and has A in all weapon ranks so he is kinda relevant as a support attacker forever.

Sumia - 20/*/9 Dark Flier->Falconknight, 164 kills - Flying speed demon, great for dealing with lots of enemies and extremely important in the earlymidgame. Got Galeforce around chapter 20 or so and this was a huge help to her offensive specialist game even as her stat niche gets filled by people less likely to be 2HKOed. Never really felt like an MVP but as the kill count shows, always good and an important player throughout.

Lon'qu - 20/14 Assassin, 65 kills - Speed is always the god stat, although his build is just inferior to Sumia's overall. Bows were a helpful pickup for slaying fliers (he got to C without an Arms Scroll. Spent more time than not as Panne's supporter but did plenty of frontlining too, the two complement each other well.

Panne - 10/16/17 Griffon Knight, 96 kills - The four-level push before reclass hurt more than normal on this mode. Past that, as always the Wyvern reclass gives her high strength/speed (which Lon'qu pushed even more). Could 2HKO anything and doubled almost everything, so had great offence. Durability could be better but the HP kept it from feeling awful. A better Sumia outside the lack of Galeforce once she got going, but that early going really matters.

Tharja - 20/20/10 Sorcerer, 201 kills - Nosferatu is kinda badass. How well Tharja's game works by enemy class, but things she doubles and don't have great res just get devoured endlessly. In some cases this applies to whole maps, she all but soloed chapter 19 for instance. Low accuracy is a minor flaw ultimately. Midgame MVP and has a case to be the best unit in the playthrough overall.

Anna - 20 Trickster, 23 kills - Healer who could kill things with a Levin Sword for a while midgame and took the most punishment before dropping (only rarely OHKOed!). Even had a pairup that granted move and speed! Anna's great, this isn't news.

Lucina - 20/*/15 Hero, 121 kills - Inherited Veteran and some pretty great stats seeing as her parents were overlevelled midgame. As time got on her stats just went ridiculous. Capped strength and had 42 or above in Str/Skl/Spd/Lck and great stats otherwise. Ran Sol+Aether+Rightful King and had a ~70% chance to regenerate HP with every strike, while doubling most everything, being reasonably durable and doing massive damage. Needless to say, one of the best. The main person to tangle with the final boss.

Say'ri - 11 Swordmaster, 21 kills - Did some midgame troubleshooting with her strong overall stats, although the lack of supports was notable. Once Tiki joined she became permanent pairup bait through not fault of her own.

Morgan - 10/10/4 Sorcerer, 11 kills - I got him right after Say'ri's map. I had a plan to turn him into a competent Sorcerer but it proved too difficult to get him many levels, so he ended up as Lucina's support partner instead, bolstering two of her non-stupidly-high stats, so there's that. If I did things again I'd have waited a bit longer before getting him and made him a Rally Spectrum monkey, which would have freed up Robin.

Tiki - 30/21 Manakete, 46 kills - Absolutely ridiculous. Capped HP/Skl/Spd/Lck. Lowest stat was Res at like 42. Her speed is kinda shaky at first but Say'ri fixes that. Tanky as all hell from the getgo, and as time goes on just starts doubling everything, 2HKOing most things, and giving no shits about anything (final boss' Ignis? Oh no a 3HKO). Lategame MVP.

Basilio & Flavia - Lv 14, 9/10 kills - Useful lategame filler. Can take a hit or two, can hit lots of weaknesses.

Libra - 11 War Monk, 3 kills - Third staff user when I had the space for him. Died instantly to everything later.

Cherche - 20/7 Griffon Rider, 30 kills - High Str/Def and Hammer use gave her a clear niche for a while, and then she complemented Say'ri well midgame. Kinda lacked a niche late + bad speed caught up with her, so got dropped.

Sully (24 kills), Stahl (23 kills), Cordelia (14 kills) all saw some definite use early before becoming overall outclassed and dropped before promotion.

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

Kinda. You rez Ana, and then talk to her again after beating the first of the four lord soul bosses.

So you leave your main hub (?) with a shitty bonfire for 80% of the game because you want to save 6 (?) Humanity if you do that?

Seems not worth it if I understand the mechanics properlike..

A couple things:

1. 10 charges isn't really that shitty, at least in the first playthrough. I haven't ever actually needed more than 10 Estus flask charges for the first run through of the game. I've run out with only 5 before but I usually make it to the next bonfire before 10 runs out. If you've run out during a boss you have lost against the boss in the first place.

2. You can't actually upgrade past 10 charges anyway until you beat the Catacombs, which as we discussed earlier is really obnoxious to do before Anor Londo.

3. It's actually more like 50% of the game unless you're doing every single optional area possible before taking down one of the lord soul bosses, which doesn't make any sense to do.

4. Even if you rush to the Catacombs first, Firelink Shrine isn't actually a very good main hub for any of the mandatory areas. It's actually kinda far for most things that aren't New Londo and the catacombs (EDIT: And the Undead Asylum revisited, but there are two easily accessible bonfires there and the boss is easy once you know to just run up and hit him in the dick a bunch while hanging between his legs.), and that humanity is way better spent making bonfires closer to the bosses or in the middle of dungeons better. Oh, and it gets deactivated after you ring the second bell of awakening anyway. There's no reason to upgrade it beforehand because you can't use it for two dungeons anyway.

5. After you beat Anor Londo and get the Lordvessel you can warp from bonfire to bonfire so it doesn't even really act as a main hub anymore, and is only the closest bonfire for New Londo and the Catacombs.  Admittedly, I could have used the extra charges for the Catacombs, but you don't get the item to manually upgrade it until after the catacombs anyway.

I really just don't see any benefit to upgrading that Bonfire manually. You're way better off dumping the humanity into making multiple other bonfires give you 10 charges.  Come to think of it, if it didn't upgrade for free I don't think I'd upgrade it past 10 charges anyway for that very reason. However, since it IS free and you CAN warp to it, it is awesome.
