DS2 SL1: SL1 makes individual spiders and spidermen genuinely threatening, so the whole Tseldora place was terrifying. Silent Hill terrifying.
I beat Medusa, Scorpion girl, Freja, Chariot.

I'm sitting on 130k souls and only have four bosses to kill right now.
I could beat RRA but he's a real bastard. After like 20 tries I found a way to take care of all the rats immediately. Now I just need to win against RRA himself....... :(
Smelter Demon made it pretty clear that I'm not going to win ever. But I'll try!

I have the Ring of Life Protection on all the time now so each death means losing 3000 souls.
Which is the same cost as, say, 30 kunais or 10 black firebombs.
So If I avoid death by throwing 9 black firebombs, 1) I don't go back to the bonfire 2) I lose less souls.
So basically I'm using a lot of items right now.

I'm surprised by the lack of balance between blunt and slash weapons in PvE, now that I've tried the mace for a good portion of the game. Armored enemies have massive slash res, and ... nothing so far has blunt res.

can't resist a blunt bro

Bravely Default - So Jack the Ripper + Flava Flav makes for a Merchant.  I was planning on trying out Merchant + Salve Maker shenanigans, but the skill set is a lot less robust than I had hopes for.  So I guess I am going to just level it until I get its innate passive skill and bench it.  I headed directly to the Compounding store and maxed it out in Norende.  It really is pretty easy to build that up for anything you want.  Even to a very high level.  Some of it might just take assigning stuff to run over night, but if you are spending the 30 seconds it takes to assign workers every now and then you make a lot of progress with minimal engagement.
NO MORE POKEMON - Meeplelard.

I figured out why my arena opponents were getting much better cards than me.  Apparently if you own an Epic or Legendary card it will show up in your arena drafts.  Explains why I was running into fucking Jaraxxas.  Kind of defeats the purpose of a random draft.  I'll save my gold for something else, maybe that new expansion coming out.

This isn't true at all. Nothing in your constructed list impacts your arena draft. I've gotten epics and legendaries available in arena that I don't have in constructed since day 1. Arena doesn't give an equal distribution of card rarity in drafts nor does it impose the normal 2 card limit, though, so yes you'll fight the mage with 5 Pyrobursts or whatever.
<Eph> When Laggy was there to fuel my desire to open crates, my life was happy.  Now I'm stuck playing a shitty moba and playing Anime RPGs.

Reading more SRWZ3 spoilers, I underestimated the Big O factor. HOLY SHIT YOU FIGHT BIG VENUS

Also I got the game! Damn, that was quick. Through stage 1, Gemion is pretty awesome.

No kidding. SMAAASH girl could easily one-shot anything in the Iron Keep because LARGE CLUB. Dual-falchion mode really struggled here.

Tried getting summoned by Looking Glass Knight for a bit yesterday. No luck. Only summons I got was from a gang of trolls loitering around the King's Passage specifically to fuck with people trying to get summoned by the Looking Glass Knight.

Oh boy I'm posting about Dark Souls 2 prepare for another round of WTF.

So after almost two weeks and no call from the epair place, I fight through my depression and call them and MAGICLLY the PS3 is fixed come on down!  Except I'm waiting there for about an hour as they mess around of random stuff.  Hey, at least my save data's backed up now!  Hey wait where's Dark Souls 2?  FIND IT FIND IT FIND IT.  Oh hey it was inside all along and they had to open it up to get it out.  This surely bodes well.  If I actually paid for this I'd care.  So back home, PS3 won't accept the disc!  Also after about 40 seconds of being on I get a FUCKING HEAT WARNING.  Hahahaha no, angry call.  Screw that place, save me internet sales!  Ohhey slim PS3+3 games+1 controller for literally cheaper than the repair place's replacement estimate.  Welcome to the family new PS3!  Look down on that fatso in shame.  Alright, set up systems stuff, sync internet copy over relevant data like Tales of Xillia and....

ummm....

Where you at Dark Souls 2 data?  After three passes through the save and syncing trophies in some desperate bid I set Dark Souls 2 to reinstall.  Nope, still not fixed.  Alright fatso, stay in one piece long enough for me to use you.  Alright, data still here so at least it wasn't deleted.... OHHEY IT CAN'T BE COPIED TO ANYWHERE BUT THE ONLINE STORAGE WHICH REQUIRES A PS+ ACCOUNT I DON'T HAVE.  Hahahahahaahahahahahahahaha.

Dark Souls 2: Alright, I'm good and pissed at all of this so I just go maximum cheese with the Mace and ruthlessly destroy everything.  With a weapon that actually works I kill Pursuer on his SURPRISE and kill Last Giant with Pate will up.  ODS somehow manages to kill me twice through some screwery but chunking 10% of his health a hit means I win eventually.  I lose against Drakerider because I got hit then go to Huntsman's Corpse to kill the Skeleton Lords in two hits.  STUFF then up to Purgatory.  Lost one death to getting caught on geometry on the return jump from the Sublime Bone Dust and another to the red phantom asshole because of randomly whiffing back attacks.  Executioner's Chariot went down as easy as any blunt weapon will do against anything weak to it.  Over to Harvest Valley, I find no Gavlan, and take care of the giant brawl with the sickle guys in one go.  But most importantly I notice the Sunlight Alter statue actually has a head this time.  Hello Gwynson!

Enemies also aren't hitting as hard as they used to.  I guess there was a patch?

Dark Souls 2 new patch:  Welcome to Casual Souls.

-  Last Giant's damage almost cut in half.  NPC Pate is now Iron Knight Tarkus.

- Exploding mummies do 40% of your health instead of 90%.  This is a good change!

- High end Pyromancy damage nerfed.  Forbidden Sun didn't need it but Flame Swathe no longer does 1300 damage with no stat investment.

- I mentioned Pate but every NPC summon is much stronger EXCEPT Jester Thomas, who got weaker.  He's still the best NPC summon.  The trophy for Lucaitel is much easier because of this.

- Lost Sinner NG+ is not as much bullshit anymore.  This is another good change.

- Apparently people had problems with Shrine of Amana's homing sniping magic priestesses.  Their aggro range is much shorter and their spells are slower and doesn't track as much.

- Giant Lord's health took a minor hit.  Before it took three Chaos Storms, now it can take two and one Forbidden sun to kill it.

- Unrelated to the patch but cheaters are everywhere.  My fresh Bandit got invaded by a turtle with butterfly wings using the Moonlight Greatsword. Speaking of which...

- Moonlight Greatsword got nerfed hard.  Which means everyone is back to Havel's + Greatsword. Yay  :-\

Fudo: Gavlan doesn't show up in Harvest Valley until you've spoken to him at No Man's Wharf.

I dunno about enemies dealing less damage. Some specific enemies/attacks did get patched. But broadly speaking it feels the same to me, I fought Velstadt last night and he still fucking obliterates your healthbar with ease.

Speaking of, dual-wieldy mode done. For some reason I was under the impression that you could get the herald's outfit by killing her. Apparently this is not true!

Didn't you never kill Priscilla because that's too horrible? Now you're murdering the Emerald Herald just for her outfit?

Lost Sinner is insane in SL1 mode, as expected, like way harder than Sentinels, even though she should die in 10 hits. I might skip her for a while.
Unfortunately I can't really improve my character anymore. Maybe I could find some better pyro? Better accessories?

I killed her as part of Navlaan's quest. I figured I'd make a deliberate effort to be a dick this time just to see what happens with him. Not much as it turns out!

The patch nerfing top-tier pyro spells doesn't exactly bode well for SL1 mode. SL1 sounded like less of a huge thing in DS1 than it could've been because hey the only SL1 class is pyro and at least you get a couple spell slots out of that, right? Maxed pyro hand and fireballs will take you pretty far against DS1 bosses. But SL1 class in DS2 is deprived and you can't do jack-shit at gamestart.

Yeah, I was planning to beat Sinner with Forbidden Sun, but... :(

Indeed, Dark Souls SL1 felt very much like playing a (weak) pyro.

Dark Souls 2 SL1 really does have items to compensate though. In DS1 SL1 you're always losing all your souls all the time and teleportation is not available endgame, so accumulating souls and spending them on items is such an annoying process that you just burn everything instead. (and use some club when fire isn't available)

Here you're always accumulating souls thanks to the Ring of Life Protection, and teleportation makes access to shops way easier.
You can kill bosses very quickly since you're using a doublehanded mace with resins, and can play the long range game with kunais/bombs (Bombs really are the only reason I beat the belfry boss)

So far, I wouldn't say it's actually harder than in DS1, mostly because the bosses are easier overall.
But there's a real punishment for failure so you cannot just throw yourself at the game repeatedly and need to git gud. Else you run out of souls, run out of items, turn hollow, you cannot even grind since the enemies you use to grind have disappearead, etc. I actually like this Sword of Damocles that makes each moment seem important and adds some urgency, much like the D-Counter in BoF5 for example

Whelp.  Thanks for confirming.

Figured as much.  Guess my memory haze of him showing up in Harvest Valley without No Man's was wrong.

It pretty much is.  At least it makes your final Smug look at the end all the more worth it.

I was all "DARK SOULS MORE LIKE CASUAL SOULS AM I RIGHT" when they nerfed Lost Izalith in DS1, but after seeing it in action I welcome the Shrine of Amala change. You -can- avoid the homing death lasers very easily now, but they're still dangerous when coupled with everything else you have to deal with at the time, including other death lasers.

You have to move/roll in an orthogonal direction right before the death laser is going to hit you and you might have a whole lot other things to do instead of that.

So yeah the dungeon's still interesting and I'm still dying a lot.
Oh yeah BTW I'm right there in SL1 mode.

Dead bosses:
- Lost Sinner is a lot easier if you don't lock on (and know all her attacks)
- Double Dragons are trouble here but their health is low enough that you don't really have to try the fight a lot of times to get lucky and kill one.
- Looking Glass Knight is not that bad. Durable but slow. I used a poison resin for fun. I was kind of scared when he summoned someone, but he died 10 seconds later because POIZN.
- RRA: Chaos Storm to take care of the rats immediately, then the "Staying below him hoping he doesn't realize I'm there" strategy.
- Smelter Demon: Poison. Seriously.

I think the best bomb-type item is the holy bottle you can buy from the blue cathedral.

Whips are actually genuinely ideal for a lot of situations in DS2 just because range. Damage isn't ever spectacular (outside of Old Whip, which is an amazing weapon but just fucking breaks in five seconds even if you've got the durability ring equipped), but they're great for dealing with lots of dangerous but fragile mooks with fiddly to dodge attacks.

Just burned through 50% of NG+. Cleric mode because ffff dealing with NG+ boss offense in melee if I don't have to. I have 52 shots of Great Lightning Spear and that is basically all I ever use now. 800-1,000 damage a second thanks to Blue Clearstone Ring +2. Miracles straight up embarrass sorcery for damage output this time around.

Blinding Bolt is pretty disappointing for a NG+ spell. The damage is decent if it hits something, but chances are it won't and you'll probably get stabbed in the face trying to cast it anyway. Oh well. More Lightning Spears!

NG+ actually not that terrifying so far? As far as escalated enemy stats go, at least. The scary stuff is just anything that's different because the game's so familiar after hacking through multiple NG runs. Oh god there's a whole gang of dudes throwing birds at me what is happening. I was aware of ninja spider in advance so that didn't really get to me, but oh my god the pigs grew up sure as hell did. Hunter's Copse red phantom ambush is probably the rudest thing I've seen so far (although, yes, I've been made aware of what's in the throne room and I am not contemplating this prospect with any degree of fondness).

I found the dingy set! It is not better than Licia's (slightly less dingy) set though. Alas.

Bravely Default - And finished. Level 76, 79 hours. Most PCs had 3-4 jobs mastered.

The second to last boss was extremely nasty and fun. Last boss was considerably easier overall but has a bit of a dick move in its fifth form out of five, kind of an annoying design there since the first four are mostly either trivial or plot fights, although at least they are somewhat interesting plot fights! Still overall enjoyable, very glad I stayed for the frue ending.

Anyway C5-8 in the game are a great concept but kind of a bad execution. I would have loved it if following Airy's advice until the end of, say, C6, earned you a game over (putting you back before breaking the last crystal of course) and instead you got the true ending by breaking the crystal. As is the actual "true ending" requires the PCs to act like braindead idiots and that puts a real damper on things, since it's definitely the more fun one gameplaywise! Obviously I'd have kept the Airy fights from the true ending because those were pretty great. I basically didn't give a shit about the plot outside of Airy towards the end (as I think I mentioned earlier, the scene where she pretends to be possessed to fuck with Agnes is a highlight). Yulyana and DeRosso are both terribly boring characters who talk far too much towards the end, especially Yulyana. The way the game starts drooling over the awkward comic relief character is a bit embarrassing actually, and I say this as someone who overall enjoyed his appearances early in the game. Ouroburos is a pretty damn boring villain too, and overall I found the whole world-destroying thing more over-the-top than effective.

Gameplaywise C5-8 really didn't need you to fight the same bosses four times in a row. They are fun bosses! But that's really too much. The random design also kinda falls off a cliff at that point, they turn into mostly punching bags for you to gain resources off of. Part of that is that Dark Knight and to a lesser extent Vampire ridiculously up your MT damage potential of course.

As a result I didn't feel very inclined to do much optional in C5-8. I did do the new optional dungeon because hey, new dungeon, with shinies. And I tried a few of the fights. I've heard good things about C8 but by that point I really just wanted the game to end; it is extremely long. Definitely a game I want to replay but I'm not sure how I will approach said replays with said lategame. At least it has sceneskip! Sceneskip will help a lot. The game certainly has considerably more dialog than it strictly needs. Special shout-out to those party chats which I kept watching and which kept disappointing me.

To say some nicer things about the game's writing it does have the aforementioned neat ideas (have the courage to disobey, indeed), Edea is a lot of fun, and the Eternian antagonists are very memorable at worst and at best have some pretty good scenes. It does occasionally stretch belief how little they manage to communicate to the party about the dangers of awakening the crystals but given the personalities involved it's not -that- big a stretch. It certainly has a better plot than the games it most resembles, which again isn't much of an accomplishment but says something about the game's ultimate placement.

Otherwise I've already said a lot about this game. Despite its pacing flaws it remains very good. Great class system, great boss design, an extremely interesting take on the traditional turn-based gameplay with the brave/default mechanics, and just so many polish and gameplay design decisions I approve of. There are a few things which stand out as dated - not getting exp from being dead at the end of a fight, an inability to scroll quickly through the item menu - but yeah not too many. Not sure exactly where I'll end up rating it, but it is either an 8 or a 9 probably.

Final party:
Edea - Dark Knight w/ Spellblade
Tiz - Spiritmaster w/ White Magic
Agnes - Pirate w/ Examine (also had Vampire, but this isn't a great skillset for bosses... their final passive is, though!)
Ringabel - Templar w/ Perform

Class notes:
Monk - I dunno, they hit things, and get some useful passives. Felt outclassed by many other physical options though.
White Mage - Top-tier class. White Mage's healing is indispensable and Angelic Ward is one of the best 1-CP skills, Staff Lore/Dispel/Esunaga/Arise also good. Oh yeah and they destroy undead.
Black Mage - Damage spells are good against weaknesses for a while, status spells are quite useful too. I dropped them when I found their damage aging poorly, but they were an essential part of my C1-2 strategies.
Knight - Two-handed is amazing, how is that their second ability. Their first, Stomp, is also great earlygame. They apparently have some neat death tank builds I didn't really get to, and a bunch of other useful passives.
Thief - I dunno, unimpressive fragile fighter type so I didn't really bother beyond getting Speed+ passives for various people. Heard good things about Godspeed Strike but I didn't get that far.
Merchant - Kinda trashy but More Money is great considering how stingy this game is with the cash. Low Leverage sounds pretty amazing but I didn't get it.
Spellfencer - As others have said, Brave makes this better than in FF5 because you can do things with them first-turn. They're more cost-effective than black mage at black mage's tricks, although they need to be paired with physical skills lest they suffer against evade. Merely good early, but they have great synergy with both of IMO the game's best physical jobs.
Time Mage - Speed manipulation is key, HM bosses can be brutal if they lap you at a bad time. Slow everything! Slow Parry can even do it for free which is nice. Unfortunately once you get Pirate and Performer this class' niche goes down the drain. Some of their later spells did look excellent though.
Ranger - Another class that does physical damage using a weapon which isn't 2H-friendly meh whatever. It's okay for a while, their skillset is decent against certain species certainly.
Summoner - 40 MP's a bit too much for me. Wasn't impressed.
Valkyrie - Crescent Moon! Bow before your new god, randoms. I used two people with it, but hell you should probably use three, wipe out everything for no MP cost. Synergises beautifully with Spellfencer. MT physical that statuses everything! MT physical that hits weaknesses! Did I mention this game has enemies who counter physicals, but they can't counter MT? Yeah. Oh the rest of the skillset's okay, Jump/Spirit Barrier have niche defensive uses and Judgement stings. The Valk/Spellfencer combination is kind of why I ditched offensive mages.
Red Mage - For a while, Red Magic is "White Mage which trades Reflect/Dispel for Sleep/Blind/more elements" which is an okay trade. Becomes crap once you get L5 magic though. They have some useful passives at least, although not ones which were mainstays in my own personal lineup.
Performer - The ability to distribute BP to whoever needs it most is already a great niche, but this class also has MT +25% buffs and a five-turn provoke skill. Great support class.
Salve-Maker - The first of your "double healing" passive skills which is really useful, as well as good MP restoration, full revival, and a few other tricks. The good items are pretty limited if you play offline, though.
Pirate - Stat downs simultaneous with damage is cool. I relied heavilly on this for crippling the last two bosses' speed and offence. Also S in axes good, axe lore good. And they have some good damage if you can deal with the MP costs.
Swordmaster - Counter builds are neat in theory. Didn't really bother though.
Ninja - Their hit-doubling skill is neat though it will put you into negative BP (barring various shenanigans), the evade game can be really potent. Same with drawing attacks to your choice of target. I probably found them the most useful of the low-def fighter-types, which is pretty standard for FF!
Arcanist - Didn't really bother.
Spiritmaster - So many valuable support abilities. Nulls status! Nulls elements! Nulls all damage! Ridiculously useful skillset, I can't imagine how much harder it would make certain bosses if I didn't have it. Probably a top three class in my mind.
Templar - Tanky as fuck, BP limit of 4 is nice. Their skillset has some uses... a lot of it is built around good fighters which my Templar wasn't, really, but Rampart can be really useful.
Dark Knight - Ridiculous and overshadows almost all other physical builds. 4x MT physical is -insane-. Rage is less relatively potent, but with how stingy the game is with letting you past the damage cap, Rage's ability to output 25-50k damage for the cost of 3 actions but (+1 if you need to activate Drain Sword) starts to look really damn good. Not even dark halving really slows them down, and dark immunity is rare and mostly found on undead which you can slaughter with white magic.
Vampire - So this class also has great MT options, though it looks a little less good after Dark Knight, and a bunch of utility. It isn't really worth the incredible amount of effort to get, but it is fun once you do. Their capstone skill is outstanding.
Conjurer - Like Arcanist, I mostly ignored this.

Play it!

Erwin Schrödinger will kill you like a cat in a box.
Maybe.

DARk Souls 2: Where was I?  Harvest Valley?  Sounds right.  Anyway, CHARGE.  Covetous Demon down, Pate stuff get(WOW his spear is long).  Mytha down because Thomas is boss.  Mace pretty much one-shots Iron Keep jerks, but the one Sniper is a giant pain for me because I only have Crossbows to use.  Now, a heavy Crossbow on my back looks baller but I need some heavier ranged firepower and since I need to pump DEX for the Jester stuff I can pick up the Dragonrider Bow too.  So over to No Man's Wharf, and the first boss I kill with Lucatiel's help.  Over to Bastille, open stuff hey the Antique Key opens the path past the Ruin Sentinels not the Bastille Key.  Whatever!  I brag the Barbed Club, Crossbow Shield, Pursuer Ultra Greatsword and Dragonrider Bow from Straid.  PUG swings pretty fast... I think?  Anyway then I head over to... Shaded Ruins!  Fight the Scorpioness with Tark and we wreck her so badly she only manages one hit against him the whole battle.  Heading on, the errrrr trash boss in the cathedral dies too then it's the one thousand runs through Tseldora because of the one-way street nature of it.  Does that red crystal lizard ever do anything?

Ornifax means fire arrows/bolts which means FIRE.  Anyway, fight DDF with the NPC Boyd and learn NPC phantoms can Estus now.  Back to Iron Keep!  CHARGE ONWARDS!  I assume there's some NG+ deathery in the middle part of the climb to the last bonfire.  Anyway Irong King takes a life because of enemy over-tracking but second fight goes fine.  Come back, fight Smelter Demon with Lucatiel's help.  First try fails due to EXPLOSIONS but second slays him.  Rematch against Pursuer goes hitless yippie Blade Ring+1.

Back over to Lost Bastille.  Run riot over the Ruin Sentinals, and have a fun time in the Belltower.  Get invaded by two but I'm at the top so when they show up I just climb back down.  One of them jumps down and I backstab and kill him, and the other one I stunlock on the ladder.  VICTORY!  Gargs go fine but I kill them so fast I had four at once.  Get the Northern Band after it's +1 form.  Just like Steel Protection Ring.  Over to Lost Sinner with Lucatiel again and again victory.

Then I blow all my souls leveling and can't afford the ladder or the cat ring.  WHOOPS.  Well, Bellfrey Sol should have one of those!  Get invaded and win again but the sword-jackass finishes me off.  I also never got any Chunks for winning bahhhh....  Whatever, Cat Ring get.  Also finally use the two Sublime Bone Dust I had stored up!  Har.  Down the hole, get Ratbroed in and lose because I didn't have Blade Ring on.  For some reason Red Phantom Rhoy doesn't invade me but whatever.  RRV was ridiculous cake and then down the Gutter.

Red Phantom manages a kill before I make it through to Black Gulch.  Die twice here due to blind running and getting knocked off the ledge by a statue.  Find Lucatiel and fight the Rotten and go 4 for 4 survivals.  Wanted to test out Shrine of Winter with 1 mil soul memory but narrowly missed it.  I continue to really hate the reason you need to go through the Shrine in the first place.  Die to the Castle siege but when I see I can actually attack the Mastadons while they're still well it goes easy peasy now!  Ruin Sentinel Hell is easy with a good weapon.  Try out Dark Chasm but after three deathes to stupid shit(enemy tracking, the fucking jump at the start, three-man attack all of a sudden) I go fuck it and run on.  I fail against the Drakeriders by getting hit and then get like 4 more Slabs before Looking Glass Knight.  The Knight himself gets wrecked by dual-wield large club and great club but what doesn't.

Then to... Shrine!  Forgot this entirely!  I'm somehow not one-shotting the lurkers despite the relevant stats being much highest than Senior Caestus.  Die a couple time to stupid shit and see my bow damage fluctuate all over the damn place.  Demon of Song dies then I wonder if anything has the same moveset as the Keyblade.

Only need RRA, Royal Aegis and Guardian Dragon to be back up to Senior Caestus progress.  Yay or something.

There is a thing right before the final Iron Keep bonfire in NG+, but he's far from the worst addition in that zone.

Kunais are also pretty much Castlevania daggers, thinking about it.
Too bad you can't throw axes like Gavlan's pals.

I wonder what's with the red phantoms showing up or not.  Nameless Usurper didn't invade me this playthrough. I assume that's because I didn't talk to Licia (who's actually totally the Nameless Usurper) much. But Rhoy?

Too bad about being spoiled El Cid. Ninja spider was so cool, my favourite death. I was just running around aggroing all the peasants and didn't even care, then "WOAH WHAT RUN RUN", then I got hit by, like, a hoe, and died.

Pokemon X All Starters: In the Mirror Cave.

Current thoughts on everyone:

Needs a bit more diverse moveset at the moment, though Water Pulse is good.  Feels like he'll mature into something good but he's a bit lackluster.

Dragon Rage at level 16 is downright broken.  There is not a single thing he doesn't 2HKO at the least right now besides Fairies, and he still has other moves to fallback on just in case.  Granted, Dragon Rage won't be so good in a few levels, but by then, he'll get stronger Fire Attacks (Fire Fang at 28, FLame Burst at 32), and at level 36, he'll become kind of brok'd for different reasons, I suspect.

Early Razor Leaf made it much better than expected, and Poison Powder works when I want to catch something or just get one hit in that will last.  Reflect is nice, and Nature Power works well.  Unfortunately, I can already tell this is about the extent of it's worth, but maybe I'm wrong!

Was lagging for a while because Absorb was it's only STAB.  Then it got Fury Cutter so it got something that isn't too bad if he can hit weakness or live beyond a few turns.  Nature Power helps on certain terrains due to STAB Energy Ball.  Yeah, Grovyle is very much same position as Frogadier, if not worse off, because it's struggling now but once it gets actual moves, it should be quite good.

Fun fact, I had a female Piplup, so I bred it to get another Piplup.  Why?  Because that way, I'd have one less Pokemon with Trade Experience bonuses to help alleviate the levels (also have to pool more EXP on a lower level Pokemon briefly) and it was early enough that I could pull it off.  Worse Nature granted, but eh, not a deal breaker.  Anyway, it's been the better of two Water types because it takes hits better, has a better moveset thus far, and damage seems better.

Flame Charge is really good!  It can use Bulldoze for extra moveset variety, and now finally that Strength slot isn't unfair because I got the HM (which is earlier than I remember), so yeah.  His durability is disappointing despite the HP, however, but he's generally guaranteed two attacks if he can survive the first one due to his main two forms of offense thus far, Bulldoze and Flame Charge, having Speed Manipulation.  Arm Thrust exists for a 2nd STAB, but it rarely see use (on average, marginally stronger than Bulldoze with no speed decrease.)

If I had to rank them, it'd probably be Charmeleon >> Prinplup > Bayleef =~ Pignite > Frogadier > Grovyle so far.  We'll see how things turn out from here granted, because a few levels and some key moves (like Leaf Blade) start popping up.
