League of Legends: A Day in Ranked

Game 1: Karma Support. Do pretty evenly bot, right up until both top and jungle decided to try and tower dive Jinx for no reason whatsoever and provide her a double kill. Jinx ends up snowballing out of control and our Varus is too bad to survive teamfighting for more than 3 seconds. Team suggests reporting bot. I gnash my teeth a bit. 0-2-0.

Game 2: Nautilus Jungle. Game goes super smooth. Gold Morde mid dominates his lane with a little help and the enemy team isn't too competent. Crushing victory. 3-2-11.

Game 3: Leona Support. Good times. Paired with Jinx against Lux and Kog'maw. Go HAM all game, starting at level 2 and utterly crush lane, then game. 6-3-17.

Game 4: Ziggs Mid. Tremendous start. First blood in jungle invade. Pick up a kill in Mid as team is walking back to position. Dominate hardcore. Then Elise starts bitching she doesn't have any kills and starts playing increasingly stupidly as a result. Continues complaining she's being KSed. Team doesn't group up for teamfights. I start messing up and getting picked off. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. 12-4-11.

Game 5: Renekton Top. Eh. Die to an early Amumu gank, but do fine otherwise. Rest of team loses ever turret back to base. Not really much that can be done. 1-2-3.

Game 6: Leona Support. Should have dodged in selection. Game begins with annoying pinging of "go stand over there" and people bitching. Mundo dies to Brand mid at 2, giving him blue, and Nidalee won't shut the fuck up about it. Ezrael starts bitching about her bitching. Nid eventually AFKs, followed by Ez AFKing. Then either Teemo or Mundo doesn't let the surrender go through. Fuck me. /wrists.

Caesar's actually a lot of fun to talk to FWIW. Also the Legion mission Arizona Killer is probably the best quest in the whole game, I think?

See, I was interested in talking to him the first time I played the game, at least to see what crazy justification he thought he had for this awful society he created (and reading the wiki it does at least sound there's some more thought behind it than standard megalomania, though of course I suspect a degree of that as well). But he wouldn't so much as indulge a Q&A session before I did him the minor favor of destroying all of House's plans, so I just shot him in the face.

In Warcraft some characters are wankers that are obsessed with obsession.

FO:NV - Level 30 woooo.  Scraped together 50 sneak so I can take holdout weapons into casinos and go do those sidequests solo because I already lost a bunch of loot to a bug where you companions inventory of weapons don't respawn.  Goodbye Maria, goodbye AMR Boone had that I was going to stockpile ammo for,  goodbye random other stuff.

Yeah, I hate that glitch. Happened to me first time through the game, fortunately had a manual save near enough that reloading didn't cost me much. I guess the smart thing is to just leave your companions outside, but nowadays I'm just so paranoid that I dump all my valuable gear somewhere safe and walk in naked instead. Which is pretty much the best way for Girl Courier to deal with Benny anyway!

See, the funny thing is that no matter what you do in the Bunker, Caeser just assumes it was destroyed because it rumbled.

Fallout New Vegas: Blitzed through Dead Money as fast as I could.  Also that meant I hit 50.  Which actually was kinda of a pain to do without any quests.  I was actually grinding encounters in The Thorn for EXP before I just went wherever I wanted.  Watching Rex and Veronica beat up Deathclaws was hilarious though.  So in Dead Money I nearly die to the first Ghost Person I fought.  Even the weakest ones have 450 H to my 570.  Of course, I have God's 1750 HP to even that out!  So, after I get the big guy I go and get my secret weapon.... THE FIST OF RAWR!  THE FIST OF RAWR completely and utterly obliterates Ghost People.  I can literally pop them in one hit.  I actually managed to fully gib one.  I didn't even know that was possible!  Anyway, everyone saved, back in the Mojave, time to finsh up some loose ends before finishing my Hardcore playthrough.

Rawr's Talon is tagged as a quest item and those don't get taken.

I am doing it now too actually (at level 30 on EZ MODO with Light Step perk).  Recruited the 3 dudes and stopped for the night.

I don't understand the target design of this.  The weapons you get are generally pretty low power on the curve, so presumably that helps ward off low levels coming in and getting good loots early.  It is supposed to be targeted at level 20ish, skill checks match to that.  But enemies scale with level, so if you go in high level you see situations like Fudo describes.  Your damage doesn't scale up much past that 20 range (skillchecks are 75/80ish at most, your weapon skill should be assumed to be around the same if not maxed at that point), but enemies do.

So the longer you put it off post 20 the harder it is?  The more you have to lean on team mates?

If you do it earlier it is still going to be hard, but enemy scaling won't be as impacting.  Skill checks will be harder you will have a worse outcome.  You will come out with maybe competitive items (game best durability Light armour, some good medium armour, the Assault Rifle looks okay?) and Holorifle.

?!??!?!??!?!?!?!? DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

I get that it is intended to be difficult, but the specific way that it is difficult is so inconsistent (Outside of the stuff that instakills you lololol) which is a shame because they are going for a pretty cool flavour mash up here.  One part Saw, one part Ocean's Eleven with a zombie/body horror dressing (while riffing on hands down the most successful horror element Doctor Who has done on its low budget).  Its pretty great except for the part where it isn't really fun to play and my game is starting to run like shit like everything does late in the game with this engine (THIS ENGINE SO BAD) and the Cloud effect chews GPU like nobodies business.

Also looking forward to the inevitable Last Crusade ending sequence with how much God/Dog talks about GREED.

The real reward is the vending machine.  Unless you didn't break the bank at the casino and thus only get 100 chips a day instead of 1000 herp!  Police Pistol is beyond shit, it's probably worse than the 9mm even.  Automatic Rifle has utter shit accuracy and during this run couldn't hurt the ghost people worth a damn.  Even in my AMR Courier run where it was useful I was in melee range anyway so... hit'em with melee!  Except the melee options all suck too.  Cosmic Knives all blow within the DLC and once out in the Mojave Chance's Knife completely outdoes them, the spears are slow as all hell, and well the bear trap is awesome but is also pretty slow but it can actually hurt things so you let that slide.  Holorifle is great and all but kinda blows against Ghost People in my opinion since they're so damn janky and you don't want to waste cells blowing off limbs so you go into melee anyway again.  Heck, even the highest DT light armor isn't that impressive since if you're going light armor you're probably gearing up to be ~CRIT NASTY~ and want a duster.  Any normal guns you find will have limited ammo, though I guess there's enough 20 gauge hulls laying around those might have some use.

I wouldn't say lean on teammates so much as lean on God having the fourth highest HP in the game.  I used him to clear out everything before I shuffled everyone over.  Dean's peashooter would be useless and Christine doesn't have anything going for her.  She can't even help for the most obnoxious speakers(only three deaths to them this time!)

I take it all back by the way. Shana's revival/healing was invaluable during the second Virage fight. Thing is another difference between the original and English versions of Legend of Dragoon is the amount of money enemies drop, JP version drops even less. At first I didn't think this was going to be a problem, I was wrong~

Increased enemy HP/damage output means I'm using items more often, I run out, then need more, I buy more stuff, then I don't have all the monies to buy all the basic/standard new equipment upgrades at places that I want either. Then factor in the limited inventory slots and that you have to try and preserve/conserve items because you have to do Valley of Corrupted Gravity, boss, then Home of Gigantos, boss without a merchant/shop and yeah (unless you want to backtrack all the way through VoCG to Fletz to shop, then go back through VoCG again to progress~)

Yaay Shana got DLV2 after that Virage fight though.  However for Home of Gigantos boss Haschel was forced, and another thing was I had no MP restoring items left either except the one the Virage boss dropped (at least it was an MT one), two healing potions, and only three revive items, Shana is low on HP/DEF too and the boss is physical based so I decide to use Dart/Albert/Haschel (of course I forget to properly equip Haschel before he leaves to try and solve things himself, at least he had the armour from the Barrens though, then use the save point after) After staring at the game over screen two or three times anyway I eventually win through strategic use/timings of enemy targeting/Rose Storm/Speed Up/Material Shield (immune to physical damage for three turns), spreading out my restorative items, etc) Going after Gehrich first was the wrong idea apparently, not good to leave Mappi to his own devices or there for Gehrich to combo with on JP version.

I am also appreciating those free firefly/springs/etc type healing places more now (I might have said this before but I have been noticing it even more so recently)~

Dead Money is slow and snooze now.  I am in the Casino.  It looks like this part is shorter than I expected, but it will still have to wait for tomorrow to do.

FFX- Replaying this. Just entered the second temple. FF10's a slow starter, which is unusual for an FF game.  I appreciate all the effort put into the story/characters/VA/animations, but after blocks of text I just want to read quickly, jam X, and move on. It is reminding me that Square is dumb for having no sceneskip in FFX HD.

Fallout New Vegas: And Heavy Courier run is complete!  Got me some Hardcore achievement.  All that's left is Independent Ending and 50 Pickpockets.

But what you're really here for is hot screenshot action.
-Paladin Todd is a sad confused man.
-Up close and personal with Raul.
-Hot reloading action.
-CARNAGE!
-MORE CARNAGE!
-YET EVEN MORE CARNAGE!
-The only good sideview I could get!
-I was worried way back when about fighting Centurions because they have enough DT to block my shots, but all the guys at the Dam forgot their helmets so it didn't matter!

Up next will be Genocide Courier, that outta be loads of fun.

La Pucelle+Ragnarok: Hey, it's that Japan-only La Pucelle remake. It has an Overlord Priere sidestory. I rather enjoyed it and had a ton of time at work today. Decided to write up a summary of events as I translated the dialog (good reading practice!). Posted it in chat, but I cleaned it up and added screenshots for anyone who cares.

FO:NV - Finished Dead Money, moved on to Honest Hearts.  It is a little different than I expected it to be.  I was trying to smash out all the Survivalist terminals tonight before I went to bed but the game keeps fucking crashing randomly.  So I just read them on wiki.  Live up to the hype, nice little post apocalypse short story there.

It is terrible that it took until 2012 for this story to be told while this got made back in 2004.  At least the series got a run back in the hands of people that can do it justice again.

From my experience the most crashing happens around that southern bridge with the beartraps.  Something about it just makes everything more crash prone than usual.

Fallout New Vegas: Our dear friend Genocide Courier wakes up after being shot in the head, he's a lucky son of a gun ain't he?  After going through some tests to make sure things were all alright, he gets told that old Doc Mitchell went through his stuff.  A Burning Hatred never felt before whirls up inside him, and he unleashes the fury of a thousand boxing glove fists. After learning if someone gets knocked down while blocking their prone form still counts as blocking, Doc Mitchell's head is capped by a 9mm.  Justice has been served.  FOR NOW.

As dear Geonicde steps outside for the second time he realizes that all of Goodsprings is at fault.  They condoned this, and for that they must die.  The initial attack begins promisingly and the field works and bighorneers are added to the death pool.  But Old Victor is another story, a cheaty story.  For he can magically shoot behind himself and kill poor Genocide Courier.  But he's not one to let a thing like death stop him!  No, that's why boxing gloves are for.  And Victor falls to the NEW KING.

The only criminals left are hold up in the saloon and store.  Chet doesn't last long, leaving the last holdout of evil in Goodsprings to be raided.  The fight is fierce, as both Hardcore Peter and Moony Frowns fight to the best of their hellish powers, but eventually just prevails.  SUDDENLY Trudy and Joesph Cobble appear out of thin air, confirming Genocide's true suspicions, the town was full of ghosts.  After he preforms an exorcism, he learns the Ringo Leader is hiding in an old gas station.  He soon joins his minions in the grave.

A good deed was its own reward, because not even getting a level sure wasn't one!

Genocide was at a conundrum.  Destroying Goodsprings evil in a hail of RIGHTEOUS SLAUGHTER had been a boon on the wasteland.  But for whom, truly was the wasteland for?  Him, him and him alone he decided.  He would be the sole King of the Deathlands once he was finished.  His first goal was to head north towards Vegas, but his sense indicated great danger in that direction.  South meanwhile, was a gentle curve and would give loads of opportunities for leveling and easy killing.

South was for pussies.

Charging north through Cazadors, Genocide retrieves Chance's Knife giving him so real killing power.  Power that failed against both the Jackal gang, Giant Mantis' and Bighorners.  But Genocide was nothing if not persistent, and he slowly used every tool at his disposal.  He kited the mantis and killed them with small arms, he kited the bighorners and killed them with large arms.  Then he took a sidetrip to the Great Khan armory and got some very large arms.  Ones that allowed him to destroy his enemies in the Jackal gang and earn the power of Love and Hate.  With such power, he could take on the world.  His trip northwards was pocketed by Fiend Activity, including the demise of one Mr. Cooke-Cooke, but his adventures brought him to his one friend in the wasteland.

Vendertron.  Exhausting the ally of justice's money stocked, Genocide headed back north to take care of evil he passed along his route.  First were the devils at Crimson Caravan, so concerned with sleep they ignored the corpses already resting on the bed.  Next was North Vegas, their independance would be their undoing for no one came to save them.  The next fight would be the epic of Westside. Protected by the outregeously stupid Super-Mutant Mean-sonofabitch who was always able to immediately knock down Genocide, the epic fight of justice took hours to conclude.  Eventually it was decided that stopping the mutant from running faster than a cheetah would solve things.  It did, eventually.

With four locations cleansed of EVIL, it was time to continue backtracking to clear the south.  The Fiends and the Great Khans would be next to taste the LOVE AND HATE OF JUSTICE.

Extinct Communities
It was a GoodSprings to Die Hard
Crimson Caravan finally lives up to its name
North Vegas is now the North Graveyard
Westside is Deadside

PWDD & LLTQ recap to come, but for now...

Ys: Memories of Celceta.  Started this.
<RedHairedYouth> Damn, I've lost my memories in the magic forest.
<PanickedGuy> Oh no!  Monsters have invaded the mines!
<Adol> Again?  Okay, memories back, muscle memory too ingrained on this, right.

The last line isn't ACTUALLY what happened but it should be.

Playing on Hard, it's nice that you can actually reduce the difficulty in-game rather than restarting.  Ys 7 was in an awkward spot where the bosses were insanely hard if you refused to use items but way too easy if you did spam healing items on Normal.  We'll see how Hard plays.

You can reduce the difficulty mid-playthrough, but you can't raise it again. Just keep note of that.

FONV: Colonel Moore says, "It is my pleasure to introduce to you the President of the New California Republic, Aaron Kimball!"

*President Kimball bravely runs away before saying a word*

Hahaha. Ah, I'd forgotten about that bit. Had not forgotten why I hate the Hoover Dam portion of the final mission. Place is fookin' confusing. Since the interior contained only an optional objective on the NCR route, I ignored it altogether (does this matter. It looked like it didn't). Oh yes, NCR/House endings down now.

House was way more satisfying to work with! Oddly, while you're functionally a lackey in both these endings, it feels much more like it when working for the NCR. You can pretty safely assume General Oliver's going to take all the credit busting in all Big Damn Heroes style after you've already killed all the bad dudes. (Who closed that door, anyway? It was open when I walked into the camp!) House talks to you more like, well, an employee, but a valued one--he tells you everything, he trusts you probably more than he should (admittedly he has little choice since he physically can't get up and do his own dirty work), and the securitrons start acting real happy to see you return once you're into the quest. I feel bad turning on him in a way I don't when turning on the NCR. Possibly this is because individual vs. abstract distant organization. But y'know, while I routinely end up idolized by the NCR when playing this game, it's less due to active enthusiasm for their policies (although I'm obliged to support any organization that ideologically opposes the Legion) and more because their citizens routinely require defense that their government cannot provide. Their leaders are talentless politicos! Someone has to pick up the slack. Meanwhile, House actually has a long-term plan and the means to actually see it through.

Then I find out he kills all my bros in Freeside. Whyyyyy. Also, man, that's what happens to Arcade when you actually complete his quest? What a bummer! Sorry man, I'm going to have leave you unfulfilled from now on. It's for your own good! But you know, I'm fine with all that, unforeseen consequences happen, etcetera. None of the endings are perfect for everybody; realistically speaking, nor should they be.

Lanius got a sneak attack missile to the face. That was pretty great. Sneak is actually pretty great! Enemies in the DLC campaigns seem to be very alert even when you've maxed the skill, but maxed stealth in the base game and you're basically invisible. Something to remember for next time.

Speaking of, though I'll definitely be taking a break to play something different before doing it, looking at melee/unarmed focus for whenever I feel like picking this up again to do a rat bastard run (explosives for backup offense because no way is going toe-to-toe with deathclaws ever feasible, right?) Not going to just straight-up kill everyone I meet, because I am not Fudo and thus retain a tenuous hold on sanity, but instead try to take the worst genuine quest resolutions the game offers me. Any time there's a trollolol option I am obliged to take it! This has obvious ramifications for Come Fly With Me, that bit with the Boomers where the guy wants to get his girlfriend through the artillery range, probably lots of other stuff I'm forgetting. Elsewise, shoot for productive sociopathy whenever possible; constructively vicious opportunism, not directionless violence! I will probably avoid Veronica, Boone and Arcade altogether. I like them too much to realistically expect I could be a dick to them. Raul can be my bro, he doesn't much give a damn who you work for! Hm, to Hardcore or not? Honestly it just looks like a hassle adding a couple extra layers of resource management to the game.

New Vegas now past SO3 for hours verifiably spent playing, but still a couple hundred behind Dark Souls. Everything conceivably loses to various iterations of Civ, but Civ games don't track your playtime (it is a part of their insidious design).
