Earlier this month I had been informed that I was preferred candidate for a promotion I applied for an Feb. Same day I had another area ask if I was interested in something coming up.

Trying to choose between staying safe where I am or something risky (possibly having to quit to go on contract in another area for the same company instead of full time, would probably end up moving to do the job). At first I thought I was okay with the latter really. As soon as it comes down to actually make a choice I start to feel queasy and sick. I panic. See if I can still go with first choice. Think I have chosen that. Feel queasy and sick still.

I hate my brain. I can't even handle good things.

Typically this would be where I ask myself the stupid interview questions you hate to hear: Where do I want to be in 5 years? What do I think are my greatest strengths? Weaknesses? It helps me decide if I'm taking on the new thing just for the novelty or if it really will be an improvement and/or positive change -- not the same things, incidentally -- and also which one will use my strengths and not rely on the areas I'm weakest in. There's an argument for pushing yourself into something uncomfortable to force you to grow your skills if you know you'd need it for that job five years down the road.

Of course I've been told that I sound like I'm fresh from a stupid business school seminar half the time, so, you know, being a corporate whore eventually makes you sound like one.

No idea on the pay on the one I have gone with (because that is how this stuff works when you are working on a tight time frame to deliver a decision. Information sparse environment).

I think I am okay with my decision now. I have intellectualised it as realising I have two good choices to make, not a good and a bad one with a right and wrong.

I don't believe that of course. I am just relieved a decision has been made and I can go back to not thinking about myself as a human being.

Holy shit, when did I last post here? Summary of things, I guess.

Work: 4 years in, hard to believe. Teacher of the year award again, 3 papers submitted and accepted, with 3 more in the works, and part of a major national committee and state committee. 3rd resident starts soon, presenting at a meeting in DC in August. Been good - going up for promotion either next year or the year after. Other than the slightly annoying commute, pretty good!

Personal: Same old. 4 cats, wedding in less than a year. And going to DL Con (frankly, the thing I am most excited about coming up soon). I made a vow to actually be on Facebook to keep in touch, but I keep forgetting to check in on internet places and make posts. So yeah, need to do that more >_>

Failed the JLPT N2 for sure. I probably have a good enough overall score to pass, but I bombed the vocabulary section because I've never seen any of the words they had asked me about before. On more than a few occasions I could have answered the question about EVERY other word in the sentence except the one they wanted. Oh well. On the plus side, the grammar was stupidly easy and my long-form reading comprehension was better than expected. I have a very good idea of where I need to focus to pass in December, so while it was a waste of money I suppose it was overall a positive experience. Bought a new set of study materials, N1 for Grammar, N2 for Reading and Vocabulary. N1 may be out of my reach before I get sick of living in this country, but my goal from the outset was N2 so I'm pretty happy about that.

Downside, I fucking lost my cellphone in a drunken haze (honestly surprised it hasn't happened more often). The phone itself is more of a pain in the ass because navigating the ridiculous formal language of cellphone customer support is an undertaking in and of itself, but I'm more upset about losing my photos. I hadn't backed up my photos for over a year. Seriously disappointed about that.

Well, now that that is over with it is time to fret about moving for the next month. Then, adjusting to the new job. At least I will have summer break to pour over the lesson plans and recordings the teacher currently heading the program has made.

I am also considering taking the DELTA certification course, but frankly with the job and a lack of ADD meds it sounds kind of overwhelming to do all at once. Still, it would help me quite a bit professionally... and would actually mean I don't take the JLPT again in December to not stress myself out. Blah. We'll see.

I am just disappointed that they don't have that guy from the books that plays the saxaphone who I loved, there doesn't seem to be any Ice Cream for sale and it is nothing like it was when I played Lego Harry Potter.

Edit - Oh I am also going to be absent for a bit. In Melbourne for a week for work. Hotel internet is bad and terrible etcetc.

Bench pressed 100kg for the first time today. Got 2 reps first set, single on second set.

165kg deadlifts earlier in the week beating my target of 160 by 5kg and my last PB by 7.5.

Succeeded at the weights I wanted to do. No more targets. Feels good.
