Mahoromatic - Nice show, strikes a delicate blance between the various joys of everyday life and the inevitability of death.  But it's a Gainax show, so naturally there's a lot of T&A and things blowing up.  Kinda like Steel Magnolias if it were written for teenage boys.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

So were the Naruto ones. All the early spoilers were true this week. It's creepy.

Haven't watched anything new in a while (though Ouran is on the agenda). Just rewatching Utena right now since I got it on DVD a few weeks ago, not quite halfway through. I love how Nanami's version of the "Crack the world's shell" speech makes no goddamned sense at all. Nanami in general is still gold. She's such a fantastically awful person.

Caught up to Bleach. Aizenings do not disappoint. Almost everything else does. Fortunately the former is more important.

Amanchu! on the other hand is genuinely great and a worthy successor to Aria as far as Kozue Amano's relaxing slice-of-life works go. Having to wait for a month for each chapter is less good. Oh well.

Dead Man Wonderland- Volume 7 suddenly undone all the stupid in volume 6? Awsome! Machina turns into a sword bitch? Even better.

Shiki- Stupid cliff hanger, it'll be the best if the two kids got turn into vampires too and Natsuno have to add them to the to kill list..... Everyone should lose their sanity ASAP in this manga, Touru really should not exist for being normal.

What chapters is it? Up to 28 has been translated. I enjoyed the most recent stuff too, but yeah, I can see people not liking it.

Volume 7 is 27-31

The later half of volume 6 is really dumb, but volume 7 actually make good use out of it and makes everything better.
But really, with Machina now being awesome, I don't care about other problems any more.

Death Note:  Watched it all in the last week or so.  Pretty damn awesome.  It's what Monster could have been if they'd cut out 20 episodes or so.  (I know I know people all loved Monster, but I just think it dragged on too long.)

Some of the planning ahead got borderline mind readerish, but other than that I liked it a lot.

Bleach: Cool... they end the random saga just to start it again.  (OMG ALL THE SCRUBS SWORDS ARE RUNNING FREE IN AN ALL TIME BANKAI FORM.)  Really?  I'm caught up on the Comic... they definitely have enough material to start back up on the real plot.

Macross is on Hulu now. I would describe the first eight or so episodes in terms of a Spaceballs quote:

The original Japanese VA for Minmei is the worst thing about Macross.

Minmei's VA is by definition going to be the worst thing about the show, because it's fucking Minmei. Nobody can redeem that. If Crispen Freeman and Wendee Lee had a daughter she could not redeem that.

FMA: Brotherhood-  I guess this is supposed to be more directly taken from the Manga?  Meh.  I can definitely see why the changes were need.  I'm only 14 episodes in, but the plot is all over the place and nothing seems to be explained for shit.  If not for the fact that I've seen the "original" I'd have no clue what the hell is going on half the time.  If it was intended to be like this then okay... is this is actually how the Manga was then shit, that's bad.  It's still FMA though, thus entertaining.

My main issue is the character development... or lack thereof.  In this version I didn't care as much when a certain military officer died, I don't give a damn about Scar, the humongulus are far more meh, and so on.  Only the development of Al/Ed/Winry can match the original.

The issue with early Brotherhood episodes is they're rushed and have a bunch of stuff cut out in order to not spend too much time retreading the old parts. This is understandable, if unfortunate. What is not understandable that after the first 10 episodes, when they're outside the old material, they KEEP UP the breakneck pace and cuts of even important scenes. The pace slows down noticeably - almost jarringly so - in the mid-20s or so and what follows from there has been consistently fantastic, but it's annoying that the adaptation could have been perfect if it had been that way all the way through.

Utena - Well this is certainly a thing. Currently enjoying the EotW-pimpmobile antics.

You shouldn't have to wade through 20 or so episodes of bad episodes to get to good ones. I probably wouldn't have watched Soul Eater if I knew the first 13 were as bad as they were, even though I enjoyed the rest of the show.

I don't think anyone was defending the decision so I find your reply fairly bizarre. And the episodes aren't bad - just wasted potential.

Except that I do, in fact, find most of the first half of FMA to be bad. From after the Alchemist's exam to Maes Hughes leaving, it's just... not good. Fillery, pointless and unentertaining. The first ep of Brotherhood was also bad. It suffered from the same exact flaws that the first half of the first anime had, except even moreso. Honestly, if RANDOM CHIBI is supposed to be funny, then I'm fine with not having a sense of humor.

The animation wasn't even as top notch as people said it was and it was just a wankfest of fanservice instead of a solid first episode.

My point was that I hate when people say that something takes so and so amount of episodes to get good and still try and call it a good show. I misunderstood you slightly, but it still does apply to FMA as a whole. It's why the first series is a 7/10 for me instead of much higher. The second half was at least a 9/10. If the first episode of Brotherhood is representative of the whole, pacing and humorwise, then it really puts me off watching the rest.
