08th MS Team-
Largely failed to live up to my expectations, but I did have overly high expectations due to it being real/real and from how I perceived it in SRW and all. Tsk tsk.
Shirou's kind of annoying. Too much of a standard main. I was expecting him to be more pragmatic. His being the oldest Gundam main aside from CCA!Amuro gone completely to waste.
On the other hand I think Aina turned out to be superior to how I had been expecting.

The Ez-8 has effectively no attention called to it at all in the show, it pretty much just shows up. On the one hand I guess this is better in general but on the other hand I would have hoped SOMETHING would have been said about it. Also they need to stop having Shirou show up in the Ez8 in SRWs.

I am torn between whether the ending (of episode 11) would be better being removed or not. At least there is some damage done unlike usual, but... it makes me happy to see something, but my happiness isn't necessarily the best way of going about things.
Last Resort was kind of completely unnecessary and the ending is more egregious than 11's. The only real reason for it existing is to give Kiki a bunch more screen time, the necessity of which is highly debatable.

On the whole, 0083 ends up being the best out of the three main early UC OVAs. This is somewhat depressing.

Oh, wow, there are 20th Century Boys movies now? I read that a while back, and while I felt like it sort of came apart at the end and never achieved Monster's brilliance... I'd be interested in watching those.

Trigun: Finished this last week. Spends too much time on slapsticky anime humor, which generally does nothing for me, but it's a decent series overall. I don't know how in the hell Vash expects to reform someone like Knives, but I guess it would've been against the spirit of the show to kill him at the end. That is one thing the series gets dead right: Vash pays for his pacifism, constantly. Enemies don't just fall over to help him because he's so darned nice (in sharp contrast to too many RPG leads).

Hell Girl: Overwrought. Princess Kaguya forces her way into a Persona plot. They make no pretense of the condemned being anything other than walking sacks of excrement, so it gets repetitious right about the second episode. Oh well. There is a flying chariot with a Wanyudo wheel, though. I guess that's something.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: Watched it, it was good. See Soppy hype, I guess; probably less enthusiastic on my end, but yeah, it's fun. If your average high school student got time travelling powers, this is pretty much what the results would be, I figure.

Red Garden: Finally got around to seeing the last two episodes of this. Ending was okay but likely would've had more impact if I'd watched it in sequence instead of like four months later. Eh. Also, Funimation tossed the OVA onto the final disc to pad it out (would've had only the two final episodes otherwise). OVA is very uh. I don't have enough "what." for it. It's like four hundred years in the future and the main characters are wandering bounty hunters, the main series's side characters are all there in some bizarro version, Rachel builds a FABULOUS mecha, Lisa is robo-Myria...right. And given how the main series ended, all this nuttiness could actually be canon. Oh well, at least even the girls seem to know that their theme song sucks.

I finished Trigun on Thursday.  I really liked the series and I actually prefer it over the manga.

I was just rewatching some of that, and other than the slapstick, which I liked, I couldn't agree more.  Serious Trigun is good for all the right reasons (and a lot better than I remember it being), but the ending is very "Quick!  Roll the credits before Knives wakes up kthx!"

Hm, regarding the consequences of pacifism, I wonder if you could term Trigun the anti-Kenshin?  Maybe that doesn't give Kenshin enough credit.  Kenshin does deal with the pacifism thing, just not on a consistent basis.

Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Yeah, Trigun is one of the anime series I remember most fondly, now, and generally retain the highest opinion of. Regarding the humour, I didn't enjoy all the slapstick, but nevertheless genuinely enjoyed a good deal of the humour that relies on how much of an affable goof Vash is, or just plain silliness. Serious stuff largely worked too (though I vaguely recall Wolfwood being written as a bit of a mess) for reasons that have been said.

Kenshin wasn't so much of a pacifist as much as he vowed not to kill. Fighting and maiming seemed to be perfectly within his realm of operation, as long as he didn't kill anyone. Whatever works in the name of protecting people!

Wolfwood made sense to me though. He never really had all his moral eggs in one basket, so his inconsistant behavior reflected it.

Ah, Wolfwood. Forgot to mention that. Had no strong opinion of him for much of the series, but his last episode was excellent.

If it's not one of the best anime deaths ever, it's certainly the best that I've seen in years.

Hey, 20CB wasn't really boring, it was just kind of stupid.

... hey, wait, I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE. GRRREFTERRRRRR.

Hmm. I'm really interested in seeing these 20CB movies, actually. I feel like massively trimming the fat was something those books pretty desperately needed. I should look in to that.

Finished Bokurano in a day.

What's to say...
It's short, premise isn't super complicated, but I'll be damned if I said I didn't enjoy it. Seriously recommend it to people who haven't seen it. The neat thing is, since it moves from character to character you pretty much have a different main for every episode. And some of it comes together pretty well. Also? Very damn powerful.

I heard the manga was supposed to be better, but from what I've seen, the anime does a good job of its own.

The manga is different, but I prefer the anime slightly over it. The manga does some silly things at times. Kirie and Honda's stories are completely different, and some stories are told in a different sequence. The end is also entirely different and the focus is also different, but it's still worth a read.

Kirie is the fucking man no matter what version though.

Bokurano- the premise too depressing for me to watch.

I did watch almost all of Tower of Druaga. Which... I didn't intend to but it was weirdly compelling. Second season premise is kind of totally awesome. Also finished Michiko to Hatchin, which was... neat. Not an overwhelming recommendation, but enjoyable if you like style.

The stories I liked were Daichi's, Moji's, Anko's and Ushiro's (who basically went from a dick to a pretty cool guy). I know Anko's and Ushiro's also changed quite a bit, although in general, a lot of them were good. That crazy mobster dude was also hilarious.

I like the anime ending just because it's so bittersweet. Heard the manga is just flat out depressing :/.

Yeah, which was surprising to me. Usually when they edit things, it ends up massively trainwrecky. This one came out really good!

One episode of Gundam 00 to go.

Tons of back-and-forth Keikaku Doori-ing, main character haxing everyone and their mother to death, people dying (or maybe not hahaha), Alle multiplying his kill-count for the season ten-fold in like... 10 seconds, lots of love-love making up and tears, and Evil Amuro piloting GIANT EVIL GN GUNCANNON. All in the most recent episode.

Also, mention of extraterrestrials that aren't SEED's space whales.

In Gundam.

If you liked Bokurano though, watch Dennou Coil. Awesome, awesome show. Not by the same guy or anything, but another good show with a dramatic bent (though not as much).

Gun x Sword is Godly, the ending is extremely satisfying.   At the midway point the episodes keep building and building, it's hard to stop watching, you got to see what happens next!  I lost a few hours of sleep with the marathoning I must say.

I really enjoy that show.  The third opening is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
