Beach house if at all possible. More space is good and it'd be wonderful scenery wise.

Re-Post from the other thread:

ALLLLLLLLrighty then.  As the new year has offically started, I've been doing some webweaving to see what we have in the way of housing options.  I'm trying to keep it in the realm of $450 a night (which I figured as $30 a person for 15 people).  Now, we have 2 options and I'll post the best ones of both below.

NOTE: As I don't have to pay for Gate to fly to one of these things this time, I can actually use the money towards paying the deposits.  So, no worries on that from anyone.  No up front costs necessary.  I'll get it back after the whole thing's over, anyway so no biggie (barring you all going stark raving mad and destroying things in which case I'll get it from you all in legal fees *grin*).  So prices are JUST for the nights you guys are staying.

Also NOTE: We have room here for 3-4 peeps if you don't want to pay for a room.  International peeps and girls get dibs.

IF YOU DECIDE TO GO THE HOTEL ROUTE:
There are a LOT of really bad hotels in the area.  My company has a lot of people who stay over on business and unless you pony up the good bucks (ie: close to $50 a night), your options of decent and cheap are rather limited.

OPTION 1 - HOTELS/RESORTS
Best Western Lighthouse
For a room for 4 it's running about $110 a night.  Not too bad.

Pacifica Beach Resort
For a room for 4 it's running (at the cheapest) at $150 a night.  Not as good, but it's still nice.

Both of them have lots of amenities and open space to move about and get into troub-um, I mean explore beautiful Pacifica.  Yeah.  That's what I meant.

OPTION 2 - HOUSE RENTALS
If I keep it to the same price, then there was only 1 I found that looked like the right size in the right area.  It's a little north of us, but still really close by.

http://rentalo.com/208668/sanfrancisco1.html
5 bedrooms, 3 baths.  Runs $350-400 a night.

Now then, I'll continue to look and I'll post anything else I come across, but there's three options for you guys to begin debating.

House sounds cool, even if I'd probably opt out of it personally. (Just as well, since it won't fit nearly the projected number anyway.) Would definitely like to see more research into this.

Question: how many international people are thinking they may come? Snow, Grefter, NEB, Excal...?

I'm not sure if Excal/myself should count as international, given we have far less travel distance than say, the East coast domestic folks.

But yeah, I think that + chance of Tonfa is the list, though I'm probably forgetting someone who I have just offended.

New job pays pretty alright, depending on the cost of stuff I might be able to chip in on other stuffs.  I don't really have much I want to buy this time either, so more money to spend on lodging and food stuffs.

I personally wouldn't mind just any Hotel Room; given it sounds like its just where we will sleeping...

Well, to give you an idea, you know those really small one person business rooms with basically enough room just for a full size Bed, a desk, a dresser with a TV on it, and some breathing space to actually walk?  Yeah...I roomed with 4 other people in one of those once and didn't really mind it, barring TV concerns (which I doubt I'll care about in this case.)

This isn't to say that'd be ideal, just indicating that I'm not exactly picky with Hotels <_<

I'm generally of the opinion that being picky with hotels is a waste of money. Unless they're actively unpleasant. Good location is important, though.

I was hoping to have a large rental house where we could base the con out of. A single apartment is just too cramped for this many people. Also agree on the hotel comment.

Cheap is good as long as I have access to a large supply of ice and a bath tub.

In order to get a centralized room to base the con out of it at a hotel, you're going to need one of the hotels that will run a little more (the two I put out do have such rooms).  If we're basing it toally out of our apartment...20 people is going to be more than a little bit crowded.  From what Gate told me, ours is a little bit bigger than Hal's, but not all that much.

If you guys don't mind crammped conditions, then sleeping at the hotel and basing it out of our apartment is do-able.  I put houses out there so you guys would have a bit more moving around space to do things like games and chit chatting without feeling like sardines.  *grin*

I asked in the old topic, so I figure I'll ask again here - that house looks nice, but the site lists prices from August to December only. Do you know how much a July rental would cost?

Okay, I'll be a bit more straightforward. If there is enough room, may I apply for an international slot? The ticket for returning home and setting everything up will be expensive, so... this would help. If there are enough true international people that need the room, I can likely figure out the money, but it would increase my chances of being able to come.

Shale: I have an e-mail request for more information in with the realtor.  I'll post a reply when they get back to me about it.

Tai: Sure thing.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing, in that I have an appartment that's in San Francisco--probably a 2 hour ride away by public transit I'd guess (45 minutes by car if you know where you're going?  So...more like 1:30 given the average car ride I've been in with a DLer).  It'll be tempting to join in the house if it's not too crowded, just to avoid the commute.  On the other hand, if we're short on lodging I can also offer my appartment (I would have to let my roomates know in advance, though they were fine with it when my sister and her boyfriend used the futon, and sometimes have friends over themselves, so I doubt it'd be an issue).

Wouldn't be a problem for me (and the common area of my appartment is probably bigger than Hal's appartment) though I'm just remembering the commute of people staying at Meep's house in DLCon1 compared to everyone in one place for DLCon2, and the second year was noticeably better.  On the other hand, there were so many people at DLCon2, that people looked for excuses to splinter off into smaller groups anyway, so dunno.

There was Meeple and Yakko (who had a hotel room)? Everyone else stayed at my house.

No, Meeple was at his house.  I had a hotel room, and Meeple picked me up and dropped me off on the way by.  Everyone else was at Soppy's place though, yes.

CK and Shale crashed there the night before we went back to your place in NY I think Soppy, that might be what you were thinking of.

Aren't they...almost exact opposites?  I mean, aside from being both DLers, which tends to mean they have a large number of common interests.
