Give Locke a five stars weapon and you'll easily finish levels for a day. Give Cloud a five stars weapon and you'll easily finish levels for a lifetime. True fact

Autobattle Simulator 2015:

Man this sprite art is nice, I gotta give credit where credit is due. Otherwise... meh. Can't get the English version, so playing the Japanese, which is surprisingly understandable but also boring. The best thing is I named myself "くそガキ", which translates into Fucking Brat, which is hilarious. I read pretty slowly and sometimes things take time to parse, so suddenly Mog is cursing me. Then mog is cursing at me really badly. Then I remember it's my name. It's so Zenny. Too bad the rest of it is boring so I skip most of it.

Japanese event is... FF8 characters, and FF2 characters. I care even less about FF2 than I do about FF8 so FF8 it is. Unlocked Zell at level 5 (dungeon rated for 15) for a challenge past "hit autobattle and wait", which was actually decently fun until the boss 2HKOed all of my characters and was a 2 part boss that I needed to kill 3 entities (Biggs, then Biggs and Wedge) that I 30HKO'd. Luckily guest attacks are basically free ID spells at this level, so I only had to deal with Wedge, and Cloud with only a 3 star weapon is pretty damn powerful.

For all that this game is actually terrible it is hitting all those skinnerbox points that made me play Cookie Clicker for like a month so fuck here we are i guess.

DS2: Company of Champions made Smelter Demon competent and so I ragequit. I know I should really finish in Easy Mode since my co-op playthrough didn't really teach me how to beat any of the bosses solo but hubris.

I leveled up cloud because he was the only magic sword user prior to celes's release. Past that, I don't use him much. The ff7 crew is kinda collecting dust right now.

Lv 50 characters right now are kain, both cecils, rydia, tyro, Terra and cyan.

Tyro n rydia were super easy with sundays daily dungeon.

I'm trying to get black mage and summoner leveled for their eventual passives.

Dunno how far I'm going to get in this Locke event. I'm currently running vector elite again cause the stupid cranes both relected  at the start of the fight.

Never has that line in Zenny's sig about aspergers and OCD been more relevant than when Square released a game specifically to prey on it.

Final Fantasy: Fantasic Record of Autobattle - Cleared Classic Locke event, plugging away at random elite dungeons for Mythrils - really close to that magic 50 number. Current party still Cloud/Kain/Vanille/Lenna/JOSEF (all L34), in which half my party has 5-star weaponry and the rest plugs away with 4-stars. Cloud is the empress of the fucking universe.

I'm currently pondering a game to play now that I beat FE7 again. Might go old school and play a game for the Virtual Console, or maybe go through with my idea to replay Suikodens that don't piss me off. Also thinking about trying Twilight Princess.

For FE7, Florina got the most kills because she just flew around maps taking human lives like all cute children should.

One reason I wish I had started on the Japanese version like Zenny is because there's actually a minor social aspect to it wherein you can summon 'guest characters' akin to Bravely Default. This makes a fun little system where you can send and receive summons of other users' most powerful PCs for an attack. Which as Zenny has found out, is a nice limited-use "I win" button for the harder challenges.

I'm not sure when or if it'll get added to the US release, though.

More like casual version

For real: I am disappointed that nobody has mentioned that FfRK has the best thing that's come out of FF6. The boss death animation. I am serious, it's the best.

I hate everyone who has gotten a five star weapon. Also everyone who has gotten a good four star weapon. I just did a damn 50 mithril draw and got nothing but 3 star stuff and MORE FOUR STAR DAGGERS.

I've done 4, 50 mithril relic draws.

2 5 star relics. One was a character specific (Rydia's whip...which is NOYCE) and a head piece that changes the characters limit to an aoe cure1.

Everything else has been disappointing.

I'm about done with the Locke event. I doubt I will beat it and get Phoenix. I just want to get the Angel Wing relic and be done with this for now...

I'd rather farm Vanille's event....in fact!

Suikoden Tierkreis: Finished.  More thoughts later, perhaps.

Ys 6: The Ark of Naphistim.  Finished.  Normal Mode, Catastrophe Mode (= Oath / Origin style, no healing items aside from enemy drops).

It's good...  but also clearly the weakest of the Ys 6 / Oath / Origin set.  It is nice & short, though - probably slightly longer than a single Origin playthrough, so there's that.

Went to Naphistim at level 49 and not having max forged any of the 3 swords, but I did (thanks to FAQ) find out about the Pikkards & that some of the rando-bosses had respawned (with 0 message about this fact in-game) and gave uber accessories on drop.

The Good:
* It's still Ys combat.
* The second to the last boss fight is insanely awesome.  Sopko mentioned that it's one of his favorites in the series, and I agree.  Totally crazy fight with lots of stuff to keep track of (the boss's allies whom you can stun out but not permanently defeat, his sword moves, various lasers & such).
* As usual, the random townspeople are interesting / amusing enough you get to meet.
* Did I mention it's still Ys combat?  This is a pretty big plus, since it's kind of what you do.

The Bad:
* Some of the moves are way too finicky.  It's easy to do all the Oath moves, but the fancy lunge slash & jump is too hard to reliably make happen.  Luckily you don't really *need* the hard ones, but it does mean that you're going to do a lot of downslashing for safe damage.
* Magic is a bit over-centralizing, especially against some of the bosses?  I had to FAQ one boss in particular to find out that the strategy is basically "oh zap him with magic 5 times then dodge a lot the rest of the time."  In the same way Magic is very key against the frue final to actually get good damage in quickly.
* Level is among the most potent it's been in the Ys series, and this is a series where level is very often the god stat.  It's very easy to run up to enemies whom Adol does 0 damage (or lol damage) to in the next section of a dungeon.  Going back to an earlier section of a dungeon will lead to Adol shrugging off any and all damage even if you play suicidally.  I don't mean "going back to the previous dungeon", I mean "an earlier section of the same dungeon."  So yeah, low HP and high subtractive defense will lead to that.  Boo hiss, do it DS Castlevania style instead.
* And on that note, that screws up the sword balance.  Brillante (fire-sword) is the best 90% of the time because it can actually break defense the best.  In the rare cases where it's HP that's the limiting factor not defense, then Erricil (thunder sword) is obviously the best due to attacking faster.  Wind sword is just stuck in the middle.
* For the fleet sequence, tsundere pirate-girl can't fight wut??  And you can't heal her on Catastrophe (well, intentionally).  This means you're encouraged to stand still for awhile until your magic gauge recharges so you can WTFpwn the next set of enemies.  Not a fan of making escort missions particularly hard, so eh.
* Some parts of the game are FAQ-bait, and not the fun kind of FAQ-bait.  Your average Zelda will encourage you to return to areas, sure, but they'll do things like "area tauntingly out of reach with your current skillset" that you know you should check again later.  Finding the 4 lost Pikkards is basically "walk through the entire game again if you didn't FAQ their locations."  Thrilling.  Same with not cluing you in that certain bosses randomly revived at endgame so that you can fight 'em and get loot.
* Final dungeon is lame-o.  It should *obviously* be the Ark, a place that has a genuine excuse to be filled with evil monsters & defense systems and is the dramatic focus of the 3rd Act of the story.  Instead, there's, uh, this random ancient super-city #47?  Of the good guys?  That's still filled with robots or something?  And connects to the Ark, sort of, in having a platform to ride an insect over there?  Couldn't I have done that from the shore?  Whatever, these plots aren't about nitpicking, but it's a thematic fail.  (For that matter the Limestone Cave had some weird in-game logic to go there.  "Hey I saw some flotsam somewhere in the water, therefore I should go through a cave because maybe there's a cove with pirates on the other side."  Right.)
* Plot is pretty weak, although it has its moments and is short, I suppose.  Very much the same rough outline as Ys 4/ Celceta: crazy evil person inexplicably gets command of his own army to use to gain ultimate power from the Eldeen civilization, senselessly betrays his own troops, gets beaten down by Adol.  Whatever.  The fairies were a nice change though and totally unexpected from having played Ys 7 first.

The Ugly:
*The music.  It's fine, but...  Falcom, what happened?!  You're known for ridiculously awesome soundtracks, and this one was just decent.  Easily the weakest Ys game as far as soundtrack that I've played!

Newly announced as of an hour ago:

ALL the features that were exclusive to the Japanese version. This includes Wandering Hero summons (friend/social aspect), Battle Speed adjustment midbattle, Level Cap breaking, and a Passive Skills system.

This game is actually slowly becoming a proper RPG battle system. That's nice.

Final Fantasy Let's Positive Autobattling - Locke get, 50 Mythril get. My 11-relic load included a bunch of useless 3-star crap, a Ten-Gallon Hat (useful for Vanille due to big Mag boosts), a Royal Crown (useful for Lenna due to big Mind boosts) and a -Genji Armor-. At L1, it raised Cloud's defense and res by more than anything else - upgraded - that I could ever muster. Uh yeah. As of now, I have no equipment under a natural 4-star, which is a decent start.

Dr. Doom released in Marvel Heroes.  His ability descriptions are superb.

"Doom Blast: Did you truly believe Stark to be the only one capable of wielding such technology? You will regret underestimating Doom!"
"Eldrich Reckoning: Strange is a clod who refuses to venture beyond his precious Vishanti."

He's also got a billion abilities so I'm a touch overwhelmed.  Haven't played anyone this complicated since Dr. Strange, and I just finished levelling Wanda whose strategy is basically "map any seven abilities you want and then roll your face across the keyboard.  Watch as your enemies melt before your eyes and your health regenerates faster than you can be injured."

It gets easier once you realize the character-specific tabs can be used for any-hero uniques.  I dump all my uniques into Star-Lord's tab and all my insignias and rings into Rogue's.  Still it's the one part of the game you kind of need to drop cash on.  Buuuuut if you're going to spend money, it's the 2nd anniversary and everything's 40-50% off.

FFRK: Grefter is right, this ATB is shit with all the counter based enemies. Also, having your attacks redirected because the boss summoned adds so you blow all your limits and blizara castings on nothing? Yeah fuck you game.

Got a bunch of characters though, so that's nice. The JP version has a lot of them locked away behind quests, where you just have to select the quest then beat the dungeon it tells you to. Most of them are too hard, but Terra was locked behind something really easy so I got her. Also got Zell, Squall, Zidane, Vivi, Steiner, working towards getting Seifer and Armarant and Eiko during the current FFIX quest.

Team is currently Terra/Squall/Cloud/Rydia/Zell. Terra can use either swords or rods, and has about even physical and magic stats, so she can either play tankier Rydia or Swordsman/heal battery. I'm opting for the latter because I have a shitton of 3 star swords but only one good rod, which Rydia is using. She's slightly weaker than Squall, who is way weaker than Cloud, but the healing makes up for it. Squall is Cloud minus minus and will be replaced. Instead of spellblades he just gets black magic and has shit for magic stats. Zell hits things really hard and though I haven't found any skills for him he may stay on my party until I get another monk (Sabin's locked behind a rating 60 difficulty dungeon so that may be a while. Meantime, I should get Amarant soon so he may be worth subbing in? Hard to say). Fortunately Edgar is also someone I can unlock soon, so if I get a rare spear I won't have to use Kain. Suck it, English language players.

But seriously the game's novelty has worn pretty thin this week and I will probably stop playing it soon in favor of games that the fact that I'm playing them doesn't piss me off on principle. Like actually just playing FF6.
