Holy shit I need to finish Pokemon then.  now if only I could stop being mad at them keeping Rock Smash as an HM and play it for longer (the Acrobike letting you pop mad wheelies everywhere you go NEARLY makes up for it)

If it's any consolation, I think I -had- to use Rock Smash in the field a grand total of thrice. Which might actually -compound- the issue.

Yeah I am not sure Rock Smash is used in Victory Road at all? I just kept it on Empoleon the whole game anyway, but it is dumb.

AAI2: Starting part 3 of case 2. Part 2 did a really nice job of changing up some long-standing formulas in how you deal with suspects/adversaries (dealing with Debeste is amusingly like cross-examining The Butz, where you have to get him to say something that has literally any meaning at all before you can start in on the facts) and I'm looking forward to the resolution. Thumbs up.

Bayonetta 2: The way they arrange the levels in this game is really weird. You've got the tutorial stage, then a long level with lots of smaller fights, then some short levels, then a ton of boss fights in a row, and now two really long stages (that are basically one level broken in half). It's still fun to play but it's making me look forward to having all the stages unlocked so I can play them out of order.

I put Bayonetta in Link cosplay because (a) it does hilarious things to the sound effects and (b) it comes with a free Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa effect and that's awesome.

I always thought the most hilariously incompetent thing about S4 was how R1 was apparently the run button but instead of having a different animation it just doubled the speed of existing one.  It's so fucking simple and they couldn't get it right.

Didn't you only unlock the "privelege" of running on a New Game+? Or am I thinking of a different poorly-designed game?

No, it's there from the beginning.  I definitely used it in my game and I didn't touch New Game+.

You might be thinking of Chrono Cross which unlocked Fast Forward mode on New Game+, possibly?

Pokeniuko: up to six badges now. Haven't had a chance to post about it to date due to being on vacation, so time to catch up.

The earlygame was pretty rough for a while unsurprisingly, due to all the weak Pokemon I was trying to raise simultaneously with Exp Share disabled. I couldn't afford to bench my starter until my first Wurmple evolved into a Dustox and I finally got something strong enough to switch in for a weaker Pokemon, take a hit, and finish the battle.

DexNav was a godsend for its ability to easily get extra copies of stuff you’ve already caught. My first Skitty had the wrong ability and my first Surskit had Fell Stinger override Bubble, but I got replacements for them easily enough despite the 5% and 1% encounter rates for those two respectively.

Dustox/Beautifly made random battles run smoothly for a while, but eventually random trainers starting getting fully evolved stuff with decent stats like Sandslash and especially Hariyama (damned Knock Off is really OP this gen) and my slightly underlevelled team ends up taking a beating. Thankfully Team Aqua all suck (even the Admins) and I had strategies in place for all the gym leaders.

Gym leader notes thus far:

Roxanne was pretty scary on paper: Rock Tomb is buffed in gen 6, her Nosepass is pretty durable for this early in the game, and my best damage dealers vs her (Surskit and Beautifly) were weak to Rock. Thankfully, the AI was dumb enough to waste two turns on Harden vs Poochyena, which helped it pull off 5 Sand Attacks before fainting. That (+ a lucky Brightpowder from a random Wurmple) was enough for Surskit to slowly Bubble Nosepass to death without taking a single hit.

Poor Brawly got curbstomped by Beautifly and Dustox, who hard counter him.

Volt Switch made stat downs useless vs Wattson while Electrics are immune to all paralysis now. That could've made it a rough fight, but I got really lucky on the first try; Mightyena flinched Magnemite with Fire Fang while 2HKOing and Magneton missed every attempted Supersonic. Volt Switch still caused a bunch of havoc in the meanwhile, but eventually I got him down to just a Voltorb which was easy enough.

Flannery's Numel got OHKO'd by Bubblebeam and Slugma just sucked, leaving Torkoal as the only real threat. I was dumb and forgot about White Smoke, but it was 6v1 at that point and T-wave+Dig spam to waste its Overheat shots got it down to the range where Surskit could safely finish it off.

Norman took the most planning to date. His opening Slaking has Yawn, so it wasn't safe to attempt a Quiver Dance setup against. Instead, Delcatty spoiled its opening turn with Fake Out, T-waved it on the first truant turn, and then slowly trolled it to death with Dig. The Vigoroth ate 6 Sand Attacks, 2 Intimidates, and 2 Charms before Masquerain went for Quiver Dancex4. Amazingly his last Slaking barely survived a triple power Bug Buzz, but missed the OHKO in turn and went down afterwards.

Winona was a bad matchup for Masquerain, so I retaught Plusle Charge Beam for the sweep instead. Got a boost off her opening Swellow, which was enough to 2HKO the incoming Altaria with Discharge. Plusle could've had an easy sweep of her remaining Pelipper and Skarmory, but I opted to feed some exp to my lower levelled Pokemon instead.

I thought S4 did reserve running for NG+? Or rather, NG+ made permanent the doubletime movement you'd normally just get from a sprint rune or whatever? The animation definitely is ridiculous, anyway. They literally did just double the speed of the existing animation. It's stupid and hilarious and makes the whole game yakkety sax. NG+ also gives you the amazing bonuses of changing your exploration sprite and revealing the entire map from the start of the game. Think of all those geographical spoilers they spared us, you guys! Otherwise we might have known that there was an island with elves and...that place Lino was from, and...wait that's pretty much it. (Not having to look at Lazlo the whole game is a surprising relief, actually. Not that S4 has outstanding character design anywhere but god, that bowl cut and those empty, soulless eyes.)

Suikoden IV really was a perfect storm of incompetent design.

I replayed S4 for a Suikoden Tactics playthrough last year and the doubletime thing is NG+ only.

Rayman Origins - Beat the optional super-level. Well. That was satanic.

Theatrhythm: Curtain Call - There's really not much to say about this game. It's fun. Quest medleys are definitely a significant improvement over dark notes, which is nice.

Huh?  I thought it was you can always "Run" as in move like a stop motion epileptic on meth, you had to get Cedric with "True Holy Rune" to get even more stupid fast and then on NG+ you always carried over super seizure mode.

I know right now I hold down R1 with a clawlike grip to move faster more than I held L1 with a clawlike grip to bring up my shield in Dark Souls.  My memory card has a clear save unlocked on it already though, so it coooould be reading from that, but I don't think so?

Also for reference, progress from last night was

Suikoden 4 - Did some boring things on boats.  Fucked up movement in a ship battle (MY ARM one) and got hit front on by a broadside without being able to retaliate.  1 damage to my ship with 48HP.  So that was a thing.

Then stuff happened.

Commander Glen died and Vice Commander Katrina grieved. Then the natural chain of command was followed as brand new Knight Snowe became Commander Snowe and Vice Commander Katrina ascended to the rank of Vice Commander Katrina.

Fuck this game.

Get set adrift, float around on boat, get rescued, then get sent adrift again, land on an island, then escape island and get adrift again.

Got rescued by Flare and stopped.  Took Paula (ELVES) and Tallychu with my (backflips) as my recruits.

In fairness the game certainly implies this to just be gross nepotism. I would expect the characters would react appropriately, but I don't recall much happening, because this is around the part of the game where characters stop interacting or developing.

They don't react at all, Katrina's last interaction prior to that was looking after Commander Glen and feeding him food in bed.

Also I forgot to translate in the implied Master/Slave relationship between Glen/Snowe that I joked about in IRC while I played so pretend that wasn't funny and kind of offensive.

The game certainly does imply it is gross nepotism, but the game also has guards outside FuckMyButt's room shout loudly through the door that HURR HURR HE MUST HAVE WANTED SPECIAL TREATMENT SELFISH ORPHAN.  So the game implies that Razril in general is stupid and corrupt, so what the fuck ever.

Also after bumping into the archived LP while googling WHERE THE FUCK IS THIS RANDOM ENCOUNTER BOSS during the tutorial quests I can't unsee the terrible water texture that is used repeatedly for all water everywhere.

Super Metroid: Got back to the replay of this I started a few months ago because Free on Club Nintendo even though it is definitely worth the asking price but damn it I NEED TO SPEND THOSE COINS ON SOMETHING! ...I'm in a similar boat as we speak thinking on it...

Anyway, just about to enter Lower Norfair.  Not much else to say about the game other than "It's Super Metroid, therefor good stuff!"  I guess I can say that while I remember a fair amount of this game from when I played it back in like 4th grade (then later watching an LP of it years later because why not?), the Dragon Mini-Boss thing in Maridia is one thing I always forget exists.  He's really easy (on a standard playthrough), and doesn't really offer ANYTHING as a result of beating.  Just sort of comes off as "oh, right, we need a Mini-Boss in Maridia because all areas other than Crateria have one!" and just shoved in there.  Granted, I don't remember Spore Spawn being largely relevant, but he's one of the first bosses you fight so I guess that stands out (first boss you need to use Missiles on I think to boot?)

Friend of mine runs a self-storage. If your account is in arrears for long enough they take your stuff. One time a guy was using it to store scrap metal. I found a railroad spike in there and I figured I could use it for murder one day.

Yeah, I forgot he existed when I got to him in my second playthrough. As you said, easy boss + doesn't guard a reward = a key for not being memorable. (Though he is actually quite nasty on a lot of challenges, since he's immune to the charge beam and doesn't give you any ammo recharges, so fire all your missiles without killing and you lose.)

EDIT: Actually apparently he can be hit by the charge beam, I am probably just remembering no health recharges + killing him with charge beam is slow/very easy to miss so if you run out of ammo you're probably SOL.
