Since this was brought up at DLcon, I figured I'd start up one of these to be way smaller than the Wii friend code page but still exist as a handy reference.

PSN: MadFnorder
Surprise!

Also, did some hardcore training with my Hakumen, feeling significantly more confident now that I have a better feel for the game's mechanics. Up for a game if anyone wants.

Tournaments / Techniques Tournament: Noms and ideas
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:17:04 AM »
So, something I thought of walking down the street today- a tournament for the best special techniques in RPGs.

My thoughts:
The hypothetical tournament rating would be based on 4 qualities.

1. Effectiveness/Usefulness(Game appeal)
2. Audiovisual appeal(Relative to the rest of the game)
3. Style (Plot relevance, A character's signature, so on):
4. Memory/Personal experience(It saved your butt, it owned a SaGa boss when it sparked, etc.)

Obviously it's up to the individual person to decide which factors matter most- I'm just stating that these are all valid reasons for evaluating a contest.

The questions:
1. Only unique moves? I could see KotR doing very well in this kind of tournament- and yet there's something to be said for unique moves only.

2. Seperate divisions for PCs and bosses? Boss moves tend to be on a different scale, after all.

Also, I'll take any specific nominations here, and if there's enough support, go ahead with a bracket. The one advantage to this format is that as opposed to characters or music, personal opinion about one move is pretty simple.

Discussion / Article Idea Brainstorming- Asking the DLers
« on: October 17, 2008, 09:22:28 PM »
Okay, working on an article for potential publication- can't say much more, but I ask you, DL folks- if you picked up a gaming magazine and saw it had an article about legal stuff in it, which of these issues would be most interesting to you?

1) Virtual Property: Do you own your WoW character, what do you own, what's your recourse, where do you actually own stuff.

2) User Created Rights: From Doom to Little Big Planet, what do you own when you make it in a game's engine?

3) Free Speech in Game Worlds: Basically, where and when can you yell "NEWB!"

4) Emulators and Piracy: Poke around a bit and see what case law actually stands- should you or shouldn't you?

While some of these questions have simple answers (1=no, 4=shouldn't by the letter of the law) They're all meaty enough for an article. I'm also open to other ideas.

Tournaments / RPGmon Classic Tournament, Season 1 Results
« on: June 18, 2008, 01:05:09 AM »
Banners waved, fireworks exploded in the sky, and spirits were high as the final round of the RPGmon Classic Tournament was set to begin. Even the protesting Pokemon Trainers that had been barred from participating in this seasons s competition had already been escorted off by a herd of Palette-swapped Cliffs. Both sides entered the field proudly, having made it this far on strength, talent, explosive magic, seductive punching, clones, axes to the face, body parts stolen from evil deities, and pure will to compete.

Team Blasty/Stabby/Damp was lead by Millenia, Wings of Valmar, and followed by U-DO's Margulis and the mercenary Lani. Team Unoriginal fielded the Axe-girl Presea, today with a giant Squeaky Mallet, wild girl Noa, and magess Taya. The only remaining questions as they waved to the crowds was how it would begin, and how it would end. As the whistle blew, Presea charged off the line to be met with a burst of freezing ice from Lani. Reacting, she held her axe up overhead, Claw Gauntlets taking much of the sting out of the icy barrage. Lani hesitated for a brief moment, and that was all the opening Presea needed, as a Power Charged combination of blows knocked Lani out of the competition. As our viewers at home can tell from the replay, the squeaking was horrendous.

Presea had spun to reset her swing when her entire body began to lock up. With a final bit of effort she managed to turn her head-directly into the source, Millenia's Spellbinding Eye. Taking advantage of her opponent's immobility, Millenia followed up with a full demonstration of her powers. Slashing across Presea's back with a Grudging Claws, she then flew through her on a Fallen Wings attack. On the brink of defeat, Presea suddenly felt the paralyzing effect of the Eye fade. She heard Millenia's distinctive laugh behind her, all she needed to do was finish a single spin, which would cleave her opponent apart. Presea's hammer came up in her hands- and came down several feet away. Presea had lost her grip along with her senses, as the giggling was the precursor to a final Dragon Zap.

Millenia took a moment to play to the crowd, taking an exaggerated pose as she waved and smiled. "That was refreshing. Now, I wonder who's ne-" Taya answered the question with a devastating crack ripping through the earth, knocking Millenia nearly to the far side of the arena. "...Now, that was ru-" Millenia staggered to her feet, but her retort was drowned out, and so was she with a burst of Neptune magic.

Margulis took the field in her place, taking advantage of the shift in tempo by striking Taya with a pair of Rakta strikes. Her usual frailty seemingly discarded in the face of her determination, Taya answered back with another devastating earthquake spell of Atlas 2. Margulis climbed to his feet, looked at the nearly exhausted elf in front of him, then over to the fresh and eager Noa shadowboxing on Team Unoriginal's sideline, and sheathed his sword. "I'm no fool. We cede the match, and the championship..."

Congratulations to Taya, Collette, Ayne, Noa, Presea, and Geno, and to Team Unoriginal, winner of Season 1 of the RPGmon Classic Tournament!
His team will be enshrined in the hall of fame!
Wait, why are you mashing start? We're supposed to show his entire roster, one by one!
Fine.

Thanks to everyone for participating, and special thanks to (especially) Talaysen, superaielman, and Monkeyfinger for refereeing matches during the regular season and finals.

What's next? Well, that's up to YOU, the players, referees, and spectators. Aside from general comments, there's a couple of issues I want to get your opinion on, now that the first run is done!

1)In the new season, people won't be able to pick the same fighters they picked last season. They'll be up for grabs for everyone else, though.

2) Proposed new rule- Fighters are considered to be in the highest division they ever were in. If they are a middle downgraded to Heavy, they're a Heavy for terms fo the draft. This might stratify divisons a bit more.

3) What do people think of the new CT rule, overall? Better or worse than before?

4) Several people have wanted Not Ranked fighters to be draftable next season. I'd consider it if there was enough outcry, and the stat topic for the game in question was complete enough for the referees.

5)ARPGs. They're easier in the DL, but much harder in this format, when CT is a much bigger issue. I'm somewhat loath to do so, but i'm strongly considering the suggested broad-spectrum ban on them for this format, but I'd like to hear what people thing.

6) Last and most important- I was thinking of making next season a Team Match format, to mix things up. People would draft the same 2/2/2 H/M/L teams, and then be paired with another player at random (To prevent intentional combo team building) for 2v2 matches. This both helps and hurts scheduling, since ideally we'd like both players and four is harder than two, but one person can run his team in a pinch. I'm putting up a poll on the topic.

I'd like to again thank everyone for participating. It's been a fun experiment, and I'd like to see it keep going!

Tournaments / RPGmon Classic Draft- Final Tournament!
« on: April 22, 2008, 04:58:15 AM »
Our apologies for the delays! First, this weeks results!

Team Shock Therapy vs. Team Magic Dance
(Worker 8[FFT]/Alma[FFT]/Cleo[S1]) vs. (Gau[FF6]/Sceptile[PKMN]/Fu So Ya[FF4])

It was a match made in anime- innocent young girl versus ancient ugly old man. Alma began, however, not by screaming "PERVERT!" but by casting MBarrier and smacking Fu So Ya upside the head with her Wizard Staff. Befuddled, the Lunarian dispelled the MBarrier, but Alma quickly restored the spell before bludgeoning him into unconsciousness. Gau of the Veldt entered the battlefield by taking an burst of the fearsome Ultima from Alma. He then proceeded to sit relatively still, in an extremely pot-like manner, before restoring his health with Cure 3. It was the Magic Urn rage, notorious for its absurd durability. Worker 8 came in, and the two exchanged physical blows, both landing with practically no effect- only Gau restored his health every so often. Worker 8, making no progress, traded back for Alma, who fired non-stop Ultimas in an attempt to break the Urn's defense. The healing held up, and, exhausted, tagged again to let Worker 8 tried to chip at the Urn some more. Finally, whether out of boredom or some secondary strategy, Gau was placed on a dolly and wheeled out in place of the Pokemon Sceptile, who sought to make use of its excellent speed by casting Agility. To give the robot time to cool off, Fire Mage Cleo came out to take advantage of Sceptile's type. Its blazing speed let it strike at Cleo while protecting itself from a potential counterstrike with Detect. However, before it could land the final blow, its Detect finally failed on its final use, and the ensuing Explosion spell was a clean KO. Out came Gau, again, who proceeded to Rage again- this time in an extraordinary display of Flamenco dancing. The Nightshade rage proceeded to run rampant, charming first Cleo, then Worker 8, and Alma last. Team Magic Dance claimed 5 KOs this match- 3 of them self inflicted. Winner, Team Shock Therapy, 0-1

Blasty/Stabby/Damp vs. Team Clear Tranquil
(Millenia[G2]/Margulis[XSs]/Bernadette[S5]) vs. (Feena[G1]/Yulie[WA4]/Porom[FF4a])
The match began with a conflict between two skilled healers- adventuress Feena against Flowing Rune wielder Bernadette. An opening exchange of blows resulted in a predictable pattern of strikes and healing. However, one of these fighters had an edge-Namely, the ability to stop her opponent cold with Time Gate. However, with her power exhausted, her ability to mount an attack was crippled against the combined assault of U-DO's Margulis and his Shadow, and her healing could not hold out. Yulie, however, could, under a shield of Protect and repeated Hi-Heals. Margulis withdrew instead for the Wings of Valmar's first appearance in the draft tournament. After batting away a single strike of Yulie's rings, she proceeded to stun her into submission with Spellbinding Eye, and then into unconsciousness with a combination of Grudging Claws and Fallen Wings. White Magician and mid-season replacement Porom was Clear Tranquil's final hope, and she did not disappoint- enduring a pair of Howlnados, shrinking Millenia to convenient travel size with Mini, and finishing her off with a blazing salvo of Holy. Margulis came back, keeping up the pressure with constant Skadis, which were still deflected partially by Porom's elemental resistances. When a first Holy left him at death's door, however, a back-and-forth boost combo between him and his re-summoned Shadow left Porom on the brink of unconsciousness. As Porom tried to climb to her feet, vision blurring, a resounding cry echoed through the arena.

"ROFL HAX!"

The match was suddenly interrupted by a series of flickering, pallete swapped Fayt Leingods, running backwards through the arena, waving swords around. It's unclear what the official outcome of the match was, but it is believed that this corrupted software may be linked to the ongoing Star Ocean 3 investigation. For the time being, the match may be considered a Draw Game.

(For the record, Snowfire decided to offer a draw at nearly the last moment, on a single close call, as it would not overly effect his standings..)

Team Onion Knights vs. Team Yakumo
(Selan[Lufia2]/Kyle[S5]/Peco[BoF3]) vs. (Maya Amano[Pers2]/Florina[FE7]/Gijimu[S2])
Queen's Knight Kyle looked at the match roster, and wondered out loud, just before the starting bell, "What's a Gijimu?" Apparently extremely painful, as a shot of Double Beat from his axe sent Kyle scampering for the sidelines in place of Magic Onion Peco. Peco took another painful pair of chops, but regenerated from the blow, and responded with a shot of Dream Breath. Gijimu took a minty blast to the face and fell into a deep slumber. Reporter Maya Amano shoved the sleeping Bandit out of the way, firing a holy burst of the Hama spell, but the onion proceeded to sock her in the gut with such force as to cause her to retreat for pegasus rider Florina.

What happened exactly happened next is open to some debate. Perhaps Florina was attacked by onions when she was a child. Maybe she's allergic. Maybe Lyn had told her she "needed some space" last night. For whichever reason, Florina grasped her Killer Lance, and with a very uncharacteristic bloodthirsty wail, charged. When the smoke cleared, Peco was shredded, Selan was pinned to a wall, and Kyle was offering his congratulations on winning the match- while running for the gate. Match to Team Yakumo, 3-0

Team Unoriginal vs. Team Namagomi
(Presea[ToS]/Ayne[LoL2]/Taya[SF2]) vs. (Geddoe[S3]/Sara[BoF1]/Vindsfeld[WA2])

Ordinarily, inclement weather is simply part of luck in a team's match in the arena- Geddoe, in fact, would relish a good thunderstorm. However, the weather for the match was reported as "Perverted, with a 90% chance of Albedo". Thinking Presea being unable to leave her room would put Team Unoriginal at a severe disadvantage, the match was unfortunately delayed beyond the deadline for a Draw Game.

Hello, and welcome back to RPGmon Classic Draft League, Week 3!

We start our weekly report with breaking news. Recent arguments over potential Aim-bot usage by Star Ocean 3 characters, taking advantage of their virtual status, has caused an uproar among the league. Star Ocean 3 representative Maria Traydor claimed they were "Perfectly legitimate User Interface Mods" that did not violate the Dueling League Terms of Service. In a stunning response today, The Draft League Board of Directors moved to suspend all Star Ocean 3 characters until the  charges are settled. As a result, Nel has been replaced on Team Namagomi by vampire Keith Valentine, while Team Clear Tranquil had a number of empty lockers this week, with Fayt, Peppita, and Roger being replaced by Shadow, Eiko, and Porom. More on this subject as the news breaks.

In other league news, 3/8 players have requested a change to CT drop on death. If the majority chimes in in favor of removing this effect, it will be in place for the tournament to follow starting next week.

Now, to the results!

Team Magic Dance vs. Team Unoriginal
(Worker 8[FFT]/Tengaar[S2]/Cleo[S1]) vs. (Geno[SMRPG]/Noa[LoL]/Colette[ToS])
Robot battles continued this week in the Blue Division! Team Unoriginal sent out doll warrior Geno against Suikoden's Cleo. This match was all about single, devastating blows, as Geno blew Cleo out of the arena and consciousness with Geno Whirl. When faced with Worker 8 with its full cooking protocols engaged (and chef's hat), he chose to withdraw in favor of Colette, perhaps hoping her predilection for property damage would work on the metallic Juggernaut. However, Worker 8's Canning Protocol: Compress knocked Colette out in a single blow. When Geno returned to the battlefield, he apparently qualified for Follow-Up Garnish Protocol Alpha, and was Compressed as well despite a defensive Geno Boost. Upon seeing this sort of slaughter, Noa reported locked herself in the arena bathroom and refused to come out until well after dinnertime. Tengaar, impressed with her robotic ally, has reported been forcing Hix into cooking classes. Match to Team Magic Dance, (2-0)

Team Namagomi vs. Team Shock Therapy
(Nel[SO3]/Caina[WA2]/Vinsfeld[WA2]) vs.(Gau[FF6]/Sceptile[PKMN]/Pikachu[PKMN])
We unfortunately have no live footage from this match, viewers. The fight, as a promotional tie in due to Pikachu's sponsorship of Team Shock Therapy, was due to be held upon the famous Spear Pillar of Sinnoh. Unfortunately, the strange time-space manipulation in the area caused a never-ending series of technical problems. The fight was delayed practically beyond our air deadline, though our reporters say that Nel, in an attempt to evade members of the Board of Directors enforcement squads concerning this week's Suspension, employed some Star Ocean-style Item Creation for the classic ninja tactic of, "Eat this and we'll call it a draw." Both Gau and Sceptile heartily agreed before Nel fled the scene. Draw Game!

Blasty/Stabby/Damp vs. Team Yakumo
(Artea[L2]/Kornell[G3]/Lani[FF9]) vs. (Lyon[S5]/Beowulf[FFT]/Gijimu[S2])
This week's match opened Light to Light- Champion and now Upgrader Lani vs. ex-champ and Upgrader Gijimu. Gijimu's opening Double Beat nearly took Lani apart in a single blow- Except that it was slow enough to be sandwiched between a pair of Blizzaras. Next up was Royal Bodyguard Lyon, who was too slow to avoid a touch of frostbite herself before knocking out Lani with Silent Afterglow. Elf Artea continued the team strategy of "Never-ending Homogenous Magical Onslaught" by Zapping Lyon, and getting the jump on Beowulf. Attempting to stop the bleeding (Though, to be honest, it was entirely ice and electrical burns), Beowulf attempted to lock out Artea's ability to fight with Don't Act. Unfortunately, the technique missed, and his Aegis Shield did not guard from the finishing Zap. Kornell was reportedly still in the team's locker room, trying to figure out exactly where he fit into this week's plan. Match to Blasty/Stabby/Damp, (2-0)

Team Clear Tranquil vs. Team Onion Knights
(Fayt[SO3]/Peppita[SO3]/Shana[LoD]) vs. (Ho-oh[PKMN]/Belenus[VP]/Celine Jules[SO2])
This week's most epic match began with swordsman Fayt facing down Legendary Bird Ho-oh. An opening Sacred Fire struck the first blow, but the Pokemon was sent fleeing for the sidelines after a single blow of Fayt's Ice Blade combination striking weakness. In his place came Einherjar Belenus, who despite his deceased nature took no additional damage from Fayt's Divine Blade, enduring and eventually surpassing Fayt with a devastating Extreme Void. Out came young dancer Peppita, who proceeded to… prance around oddly. Apparently Belenus was just as confused by this turn of events, as he proceeded to stare at his sword hilt until taken out with a swift boot to the head. Sorceress Celine proceeded to bombard the battlefield with Meteor Swarm, but was taken in by the madness-inducing cheer of Peppita's choreography. Unfortunately, while her dancing drew Celine into a bewildered state, Peppita's  physical blows knocked her out of it. The two traded assaults like this, but Peppita's healing dance proved to be enough to survive the slugfest. However, her healing was for naught as another blazing Sacred Fire was enough to blow her clear out of the arena. Wounded, the Golden Firebird faced the Silver Dragoon, Shana. However, her opening blow barely scraped feathers, much less drew blood, and Ho-oh quickly Recovered. This gap in time, however, gave her enough time to unlock her Dragoon Transformation on the next round, as she prepared her strongest attack, White Silver Dragon. Ho-oh answered the challenge by charging for a Sky Attack of his own. When the smoke cleared, it was Shana that struck first- but Ho-oh who was left standing. Match to Team Onion Knights, (1-0)

This weeks standings show a bit of movement- Team Onion Knights climbs out of the basement, while Team Magic Dance looks to run away with the Blue division title, barring a clean sweep by Unoriginal. If a tiebreak remains at the bottom of the Blue Division after this week, it will be broken by the ultimate arbiter of love and justice- Hatbot.

First, Week one's results!

Team Onion Knights vs. Blasty Stabby Damp
(Ho-oh[PKMN]/Kyle[S5]/Peco[BoF3]) vs. (Artea[L2]/Margulis[XS2]/Lani[FF9])
Our first match was Team Onion Knights, lead by Captain K., against Blasty/Stabby/Damp, lead by Snowfire. The duel began middle to middle, with Captain K putting Queen's Knight Kyle up against Xenosaga's Margulis in a sword duel. Margulis and his shadow turned out to be the better, downing Kyle and finishing him off with a vicious double team Boost Turn. Next for the Onion Knights came Ho-oh, the legendary Pokemon, who crushed Margulis through his shadow with a devastating Sky Attack. In response came the elf Artea, who's Dragon spell, striking weakness, put significant pressure on the firebird. After trading spells and Recovers, Captain K., not wanting to provoke a lethal counter-IP attack from Artea, switched to Peco. Snowfire responded with a switch to now Light-Champ Lani, who tore through the onion in record time before finishing off Ho-oh with a Super-Effective Water spell. Match to Blasty/Stabby/Damp, 2-0.,

NOTE: Recent drug tests have determined Margulis's statistics and functionality may be somewhat different from his performance in future matches. The Draft League is considering him on probation.

Team Yakumo vs. Team Clear Tranquil
(Maya[Persona2]/Beowulf[FFT]/Jean[BoF1]) vs. (Feena[G1]/Yulie[WA4]/Shana[LoD])
Paladienne Yulie met Temple Knight Beowulf as this match began. Yulie seemed to take hold of the match to start, opening with Quicken, evading Beowulf's first attack, and delivering a devastating Material Summon. After another toss of her rings, Beowulf was at critical, but responded by informing Yulie that "no, she was the demons", turning her into a Zombie. Yulie then finished Beowulf off with a quick bite to the brain. Yakumo then brought forth Maya Amano, revealing the other half of his strategy- casting Diarahan to heal the Zombiefied Yulie into a simply Dead Yulie. Next came forth Feena of Grandia fame, and she and Maya traded blows (And healing) for a number of turns. Trying to break the stalemate, Clear Tranquil switched to the Dragoon Shana, but despite a number of well-struck Additions and a Dragoon Transformation, a switch to Maia Custom made Shana the victim of Multi-Dimension for another instant KO. Feena returned, and eventually invoked Time Gate, eventually appearing to strike Maya down- or at least, until Recovery activated, bringing Maya back for the finishing blow. Jean, Frog Prince extraordinaire, took the time that he didn't need to enter the arena to start signing autographs- or at least, offering to. Winner, Team Yakumo, 2-0.

Team Magic Dance vs. Team Namagomi
(Eirika[FE8]/Alma[FFT]/Rafa[FFT]) vs. (Nel[SO3]/Caina[WA2]/Ruprecht[SO2])
Excal sent out the oft-maligned Rafa, wearing Earth Clothes, in to face Caina of Odessa from Namagomi. Rafa managed to survive a number of turns by targeting both herself and her oponent with Earth Strike, healing herself as she was fortunate enough to land blows. Eventually, her luck ran out, with Caina somewhat weakened after finishing her off with a 4D Hypno Blast. Another FFT castmate took the field, then, as Alma opened with her signature MBarrier. Caina retreated in favor of Wise Man Ruprecht, which caused a similar switch on the other side of the field, Excal trading Alma for FE Lord Eirika. Faced with this, Ruprecht made an about face, with Nel tagging in. A devastating attack from Eirika then left Nel on deaths' door, and a missed Ice Daggers in response resulted in a lethal counterstrike. Eirika remained on the field, striking down the weakenend Caina while taking a single blow in return, and then continuing on to weather Ruprecht's attacks and run him through, with slightly less than half her health remaining. Winner, Team Magic Dance, 2-0

Team Shock Therapy vs. Team Unoriginal
(Sharon[LoL2]/Robo[CT]/Pikachu[PKMN]) vs. (Geno[SMRPG]/Noa[LoL1]/Taya[SF2])
The final match of the week was one of the most exciting, with plenty of action and thrills. Team Shock Therapy sent its mascot Pikachu to face Legaia heroine Noa. Noa promptly exited the arena for Tayam who was paralyzed with a single Thunderwave. After being brought to the brink of death with a Thunderbolt, Taya struggled back, SMASHing Pikachu with Atlas 2. Taishyr countered with a Legaia beauty of his own, as the pirate Sharon built AP while finishing off Taya. Noa returned to the field, only to be Charmed by Sharon. We apologize to our home viewers, as we were unable to show this section of the match in its entirety. Reportedly, Sharon attempted to keep Noa captivated, but eventually the romance faded, and Noa showed the power of a woman scorned with a Queen Twister, knocking Sharon out. Our cameras returned to coverage to show Robo weathering the powerful Noa's Ark combination, and responding with an 9-Crisis Arm Uzi Punch. Unoriginal met a construct with a construct, and Geno came out to finish the match in a single resounding blow with Geno Whirl. Winner, Team Unoriginal, 1-0.

A quick rules reminder, and then this week's match ups!

This is RPGmon CLASSIC format. You will have one character out, at a time. When they die, or if you choose to switch on their turn, you will change to another. Their HP remains as it was when switched out. Other details (Buff duration, for example) is up to the individual refs.

-Matches will run as people are available. Use this topic to set up a match time if you're not a usual IRC denizen. Please run at least one match a week.
-Midseason Trades between teams are fine, as long as you maintain your roster formation of 2 Heavies, 2 Middles, and 2 Lights. PM me to arrange them.
-You are required to use each character on your roster at least once during the regular season, for varieties' sake.

-Match results will be in this topic as they go.
-Matches will be standard 3v3, H/M/L Format.
-Matches will be CTB format, and CTB resets to zero on a switch.
-Rules are subject to change as I think of things I've forgotten.
-It is the PLAYER'S responsibility to name equipment picks along with their picks for each match. Failure to do so will leave it in the Ref's hand to decide the defaults.
-The referee running the match has final say on that match's outcome. Trust their interp and relax.

Super and Talaysen have agreed to ref matches. In addition, Taishyr is authorized to ref matches in the Ryu5 DIVISION ONLY. Their decisions are final.

You have a week (Deadline, March 29 at Noon EST) to arrange and play out your match. Please use the topic to organize as necessary. Report back to me the match results by PM, and please include the lineups of both teams, and number of fighters remaining on the winning side (We may need this for tiebreaker purposes for the finals.). Play by Play will be appreciated, and logs for highlight-posting can be sent by email to Madfnorder@yahoo.com .

This week's matches-
Team Namagomi vs. Team Magic Dance
Team Taishyr vs. Team Unoriginal

Blasty/Stabby/Damp vs. Team Onion Knights
Team Yakumo vs. Team Clear Tranquil

Tournaments / RPGmon Classic Draft #1: Sign Up
« on: March 13, 2008, 05:41:39 AM »
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, for the First Season of RPGmon Classic!
Sign up below! There is no cap- I'll work out the leagues depending on interest.

Draft Rules:
Due to an inability to gather people, Draft will now be done by PM. Your new deadline is next Friday, March 21, 9:00 PM EST. PM me your list of picks, with any contingency conditions you'd like. Try not to get TOO complicated.

Each competitor will draft a team of two heavies, two middles, and two lights, all at once. The full pool of players will all be available at once.
-Drafting will be done by people rolling for position, and each round will go in the reverse order of the previous. For example, with four people, it would go 1-2-3-4, then 4-3-2-1, and so on.
-No Heavy Bosses. This is the only drafting limit.
-Rankings will be based on current DL standings, as of this the start of this Season.
-During the draft, people will know the pick order, but not the picks that have been made.
-There will be no duplicate picks. If a character has already been picked, you will have to pick again.
-Character rosters will be revealed after the draft is complete.

The players will be put randomly into a Round Robin bracket, with a number of divisions (most likely 2) based on the number of players. After everyone has played once, We'll use the standing to create a final single elimination tournament bracket. Fighters Surviving at the end of a match will be a tiebreaker for standings if records are identical.

Discussion / Death of Gary Gygax
« on: March 05, 2008, 04:32:43 AM »
For those of you who don't know, Gary Gygax is one of the key people responsible for the original Dungeons and Dragons, helping kick tabletop Role-playing games into existence. As seen here: (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/03/04/obit.gygax.ap/index.html) he passed away today at age 69.

Say what you will, tabletop gamer or not, You can trace back the lineage of the console RPG to the old PC ones, and the PC ones right back to the tabletop. Here's raising a glass of Potion of Cure Light Wounds in memoriam.

Tournaments / RPGmon Classic Draft Tournament: Interest Topic
« on: February 26, 2008, 05:23:31 AM »
So, the idea came up in chat recently- a 3v3 RPGmon Classic draft tournament.

RPGmon Classic is the pokemon-style format of having a number of duelers in reserve, and sending them out and switching them as the situation provides. They don't target each other, and their HP and expended resources remain over the course of a single match. In particular, Classic 3v3 uses one from each division of Heavy, Middle, and Light.

What would happen for this is each person would draft a full team of six characters, one at a time, two from each division, as their roster. Picks would be made one at a time in secrecy, and no duplicate picks would be allowed. After that, we'd conduct a series of 3v3 matches, each player picking 3 members of their roster, one from each division, for a given match.
Right now I'm leaning toward having only ranked duelers, though this may be subject to change, if people argue strongly enough for games with extremely complete stat topics.

This can either be done in a Round-Robin league format, leading to a tournament bracket "finals", or by going straight to a bracket.

The key thing is we need players, as well as referees willing to help with officiating matches.

Comments? Statements of interest? Suggestions to the banned list? Should the draft be open or hidden? Let's hear it.

General Chat / Team Fortress 2- now with Steam IDs!
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:15:15 AM »
So, yeah. We should all get together and play Team Fortress 2. In the meantime, I suggest a conglomeration of Steam IDs so we can otherwise stalk people through servers. Mine is MadFnorder- you can tell me online by the Lady of Pain avatar. I may give you healing priority if I recognize your ID!
