Duck Game has three buttons of gameplay consequence and three buttons of no gameplay consequence, having easy access to all 6 at once is important. It's a way better game with a controller.
Let's have a tournament this week end... Maybe with voice chat??

RK: I threw 150 mithril at FF14 and got only two 5* relics. The new robe and FF13 Kaiser fist. Djinn is now officially the luckiest DL player here but his terrible banner choices thankfully ensure we still have better builds

At least the robe boosts mind by a lot, so Selphieroth with Diaga will be even more ridiculous than before. And I have a metric ton of 3++ and 4+ items now.

D3: Advancement continues. Got a Stone of Jordan, Witching Hour and 100% Depth Diggers(!) to improve my damage against bosses/elites, and also snagged Uliana's shoulders from Kadala so now I'm one set piece/RRoG away from Seven-Sided Strike turning into a nuke. I think at this point the monk I've been playing for five days is better than the barbarian I've been playing since 2012 (off and on, with a lot of "off" periods, but still for WAY more runs at higher difficulties even since the expansion). Also visited the Vault twice so I've been able to throw a ton of gold at gem upgrades.

Autobattle on Parade - New event going on, designed solely I am sure to keep people playing over the long Holiday.

It is Orb Day, Gil Day, and XP day all wrapped up into one. Thunder, Dark, Black until Monday then it switches. I blew all my mythril I got from the event dungeons on it and could probably craft R2 Thundaja now if I wanted. Definitely can and probably will R4 Thundaga. Terra is also close enough to the second level cap my nipples are fucking hard. Gilgamesh is also nearing the first cap.

Fuck this game, fuck this gimmick, Im not turning on my phone for this while I am at Burning Japan.

I don't play FF14 but I hear that you're called the Warrior of Light in that game, so Djinn should consider running WoL for the quest.

Tell me about it, I now have a backup 4*+ Staff for FF4 that actually boosts Holy damage, so I can toss a second WM slot in my party with relative impunity. I'm also pretty giddy over the hat and I even got more FFV mage synergy gear. Now, if only I had some AoE healing. Oh well, Hope and Zidane event might provide. Hell, Djinn could even get mage weapons from one of those.

EDIT: I also take back my protest about the Lominsan Bow's uselessness. Thancred's actually pretty good with it and I'll probably get good mileage out of the likes of Bartz and Vaan with it as well.

Golbez event beat!

Had to fight db twice because I forgot to put pecil in the back row.

Had my ff4 squad+Yuna and had relative ease both times though.

DB ate a ton of flares. What a dummy.

Time to do some elite stages and get some more mith for the Zack event!

October's banner set is downright depressing. It's pretty telling that Zack's banner, which is kinda generic outside Aerith's third SB rod, is hands down the best we'll get until Hope's event early November.

What's the problem

For real Zenny, do not bring an expensive phone to a festival, it's really stupid (not that i didn't do it of course but that's not the point)
Get one of those cheap ones

I suppose. FF7 synergy is by far the best to have around, at least. And having a nice multi-hit high-mult SB isn't bad (it does mean that almost all the early frontliner relics are a bust. The power creep hit those -particularly- hard). I already have so many physical niches covered by this point that I really don't care much about it. Hell, I can run an almost full ranged physical party now. But that's pretty much useless now that the autobattle days are a thing of the past.

At FF14 players:
So I now have Thancred and Yshtola. Who else should go in my party to get the full FF14 experience? I hear there's an FF3 dungeon in 14, so maybe characters from that? Or is there a cameo from other FF characters? I know Gilgamesh is in 14, but he's not available in RK yet.

Obviously, Knight, Dark Knight or Warrior, and one of Bard, Ninja, Dragoon, Black Mage, Summoner, or Monk.

This is FF14 so you play as generic guys and that's exactly what cores are!  And those Jobs are in FF14 (Knight = Paladin; god only knows why the MMOs refuse to use the term "Knight" when it's clearly called that in Japan.)  As for why those ones specifically?  Thancred = DPS, Y'shtola = Healer, so you still need the Tank and a 2nd DPS for the AUTHENTIC!!! experience!!!

...or, you know, just use real characters who fulfill similar roles, like P. Cecil for Tanking, or Vivi for DPS.

I haven't followed the new Shadowrun series and I've heard conflicting things. So some people say Shadowrun Returns is skippable and that I can start with Dragonfall (and I'm curious about Hong Kong purely due to setting). Does that seem about right or should I just start with Returns?

I have really liked all three entries.  Shadowrun Returns draws a lot of inspiration from the SNES game, if you ever played that (and if so, then known Jake Armitage is your training wheels NPC).  It's basically a series of setpieces that you move through in pursuit of a plot objective.  Many of them are pretty cool but the writing suffers due to your party basically always being hired guns who don't have lines.  SRR is not bad at all but you should probably play it first for the same reasons people suggest you play a lot of the first games in a series first: Dragonfall is overall more polished, both in terms of QoL stuff and in gameplay balance, and there's a bit more of a sense of freedom in the narrative, even if much of it is illusory.

Dragonfall is really clearly HBS' "okay, our first try was really well received!  We've got more money to do another game so let's do those things differently that we talked about when we discussed things that we would have done differently!"  Case in point: you have an actual party of characters, with their own plots and goals and differing reactions to the shit you pull.  Also some pretty genuinely surprising shit happens and you get to get elbow-deep in some pretty powerful players' business as always.

Hong Kong doesn't have as tightly-focused a narrative as the other two; a lot of the time you spend in the game will be taking runs, not chasing down your personal leads.  This isn't all bad, though.  A lot of the missions give you the chance to learn more about the area, the groups around Hong Kong or the metaphysics of Shadowrun, so they're not just like "go to this parking garage and shoot up the place."  Also, your party members have missions that cap off their storylines this time, unlike in Dragonfall.  Mechanically the two big changes they made were the cyberware rebalance (badly, badly-needed) and the new Matrix interface.  Both improvements but it didn't quite set the world on fire like the first two because the changes were less in-your-face.

HBS is launching the kickstarter for their new turn-based Battletech game next week and I am HYPE AS FUCK.

Is there a place that goes more into detail on what they changed in Hong Kong?

Also i think the main complaint people have with returns is that there's a enemy type that pops up later on that is unkillable without specific weapons, of which you only get a handful (and few people can use them). It's pretty tedious and really made the endgame drag on.
Don't think of it as a novel. Think of it as a chance to retroactively win every argument you have ever walked away from.

I don't even remember that enemy? I haven't had too much trouble on the hardest difficulty setting, after the beginning of the game.

Returns and Dragonfall aren't related storywise. It is universally agreed that Dragonfall is better so just go for it instead. (Or try Hong Kong, which is also unrelated and which I haven't played yet)
The only part of Returns that's better is that you're a lone guy who has to recruit hires and carefully balance your bank account, while in Dragonfall you have a full free team and hires are 100% useless.

Choose your build carefully, my experience so far with the new Shadowrun builds are:
Decker = A terrible idea for your main character
Sword melee = Not very effective but kinda fun
Rigger = Fucking awesome
I should probably try a mage in SR Hong Kong but I just want to play a rigger again

I'd agree that melee is not great yet also pretty satisfying to chop dudes' turns away when it works right. Assault rifles are the brokeshit option in my experience, act shocked. I've always used ally mages as Haste batteries and now it's difficult for me to conceive of them serving any other purpose.

Dragonfall is better than the original campaign in absolutely every way. I would generically recommend it to RPG people in general just because the cast and story writing have a surprising amount of merit, which I think Dead Man's Switch largely lacks. But it's also kind of retrograde trying to play the first campaign after you've got used to the awesome one, so eh. I don't think the base SRR campaign represents that much of a time investment if you just want to start from the beginning to see how the series progressed linearly? It was a solidly okay experience that didn't excel at much but at least represented a framework for cooler things that would follow.

I haven't got really into Hong Kong yet. Didn't immediately catch my attention and there's been competition for gaming time lately.

EDIT: also I think Trips is referring to the ghost bugs that you need the ectoplasm gun or whatever to kill? I let Harlequin handle that because he was shockingly mediocre at everything.

I only played Returns and I thought it was a nice little game (putting some emphasis on little here though - the game is ultra short). The other versions might be worth a look too.

Well, if Returns doesn't have very meaningful character interaction or worldbuilding I may just skip it and go for Dragonfall or Hong Kong.

Is there a place that goes more into detail on what they changed in Hong Kong?

Didn't find a rundown so here's the highlights:

-The Matrix was changed up to let you circumvent security as opposed to how you HAD to fight through every piece of IC in Dragonfall.  The tougher enemies usually only spawn after you get caught by a patrol.  This is very important in some fights because Matrix turns and real world turns are now 1:1, and getting bogged down in fights can mean getting overwhelmed in many cases.  So if you pay attention and do a good job of moving, you can avoid security and get in and out quickly while skipping over most security (which is how you're supposed to do it in Shadowrun, not blast through every security program you meet).

-Cyberware was overhauled.  There have been additional places to attach parts as well as more options for slots.  For example: you can install a datajack in your palm or eye for covert access to computers (when you need to access it in a way that is sneaky!) while body and skin mods are now different slots, so you can have both reinforced skeletons and dermal plating to turn you into an unkillable monsterman.  There's also a bunch of new mods, particularly arms, that are relevant to one particular playstyle.  For instance, there's an arm that gives +1 ranged combat and makes reloading cost 0 AP.  Cyberware can also be a stand-alone character build now, since it comes with its own weapons (Wolverine claws, shock hands and monofilament whips).  Additionally raising your cyberware skill is no longer just a point sink to be able to use cyberparts, it also increases your essence so you can chrome up MORE.

-There are different kinds of drones for Deckers now instead of one linear progression of combat drone.  At each tier there's a shotgun, SMG and rifle drone for combat as well as two different types of support drones, one more med-focused and one more combat-focused.

-Cash flow is lower than it was in Dragonfall, so you need to be more focused in your build.  Even though you only bankroll yourself, you probably can only afford to upgrade your armor and any two other things (so two guns, or guns and cyberware, or guns and spells, or cyberware and decker shit).  You probably wanna upgrade your armor, dudes have grenades.

-Every couple missions or so, party members will all gain a new skill.  There are six tiers of skills with two options each, representing two approaches the character might take.  For instance, Duncan the Lone Star officer's trees are called "Lethal force" and "Crowd control" and focus on either improving his ability to waste fools with his assault rifle or giving him tools to deploy which, mostly, reduce enemy AP and accuracy.  Since you can't control the growth of other party members, this gives you the chance to shore up ways your party isn't quite meshing with your playstyle.

Well, if Returns doesn't have very meaningful character interaction or worldbuilding I may just skip it and go for Dragonfall or Hong Kong.

Not a ton of character interaction but there's some pretty decent worldbuilding.  The BTL chips you are dealing with early on are something that keeps coming up in other games in particular.  The main plot climax is something that happened in Shadowrun history so it's not like this is the only place they've ever covered that, though.

Duck Game - Things  I discovered playing with Ciddy and Fenny:

- Bananas don't kill people.
- Ducks kill people.
- Grenades are the best.
- I keep tossing weapons when I mean to shoot.

Final Fantasy Master Of Autobattles - I have nothing to do, so back to farming Greater Black Orbs on Dr. Lugae. At 10 stamina per repeatable attempt once you get there, it's the most efficient way long-term, especially when I can 3HKO the fight ad nauseum with inexhaustible resources. Got six of them today, once I have 20 total, I'll move on to farming Greater Fires for R3 Firaja.

I think we broke the hilarious deaths record this last time. Those were some of the best fights I had in the game.
I am drunk and absolutely ready for more DUCK GAME right now guys.

FF Type 0: I have handled special missions that are way too overleveled for me by just using Reraise with Rem then summoning Odin over and over, Odin getting one level per minute. It's been 100% awesome.
This netted me an Hypno Crown, that just raises every kind of magic by 30 and MP by 50% ? Completely fucking ridiculous

FFRK: Catching up on Elite dungeons during the event lull.  Up to 126/130 timebux now.  I'm really liking the Pressure Point skill.  Wouldn't run a monk specifically for it, but if you're running a monk anyway it's pretty nice.  Too bad it takes Greater Dark Orbs, the type I am perpetually out of.

Heavenstrike Rivals:  Got all the units I'm using promoted, now I'm grinding a bit to get them to level 25, because bigger numbers.
