Well, I meant to adjust rankings and how they work but I guess over a year later is a BIT excessive.  Maybe someday.

This season go ahead and do up to 6 noms per division (Godlike, Heavy, Middle, Light).  Please keep the number of noms per division even.  The ranked list hasn't changed since last season, and is found here: http://www.rpgdl.com/forums/index.php/topic,6015.0.html

Wait the States have been on top of this?  Well shit! I glanced at the law wording and it looks like fairly robust self-ID, which is pretty great? I’d want to see some analysis and local response but on paper this is kinda just a good approach for a national model.

Discussion / So are video games actually that bad at feminism?

A month or so back, I tossed an open question at chat: how many games could anyone think of that didn't embarrass themselves in feminist terms?
We didn't get very far before deciding very few existed outside the indie space.  And that's to be expected: I'm not entirely sure any game released by a publisher of any size, at least in modernity, has had predominantly female creative teams.  Broadly speaking the makers of our video games are dudes.

But honestly I feel like this is a question I'd like to see more people explore.  I should probably clarify a bit though.

I don't really mean completely unproblematic.  I mean, nothing is that.  And among the first games I thought of for the exercise was Bayonetta.

Moreso, at least for myself, I think of this as games that don't say, whether explicitly or by implication, that masculinity is the superior position.  The ones that prominently tell the stories of women (not necessarily the main character mind, but it'd be hard to do without that of course), that show feminine traits positively, ideally as powerful.  The ones that go out of their way to buck the male-centric norms of the medium and society at large, whether by eschewing violence, by showing sexuality as something owned and used by women rather than something that exists for men, all sorts of things.
Really I want a wider pool of people just kinda examining their own idea of feminism and the empowerment of women, and how that manifests in their video games.

Or if it does, but I suspect I was too narrow originally, so... welp, here's the floor.

Been too lazy to update the DL list, and playing too many games to NOT want something going on in this space, so... here we are.  And hey, we do have several shiny new stat topics now don't we.

So!  Since this kinda extraneous, and really the idea is to give some newer stuff a chance, we're gonna have a bigger nom pool than usual.  That is:

1. Please nom up to six characters per division from The DL List
AND
2. Please nom up to six characters per division from games not on the ranked list.

Depending on how many people care and respond, we'll decide whether to roll or build later.  Either should happen either Friday or Saturday, depending.

Well, seeing as I don't have my DL notes together because hell, let's do one of these for a bit.

As always the ranked list is HERE .  In addition to your noms, if you happen to see any unranked games you've played but I don't have you marked down for, I'd appreciate the info.  Long-term project over the next couple months will be deciding how to prune and maintain the rankings better, and having more accurate info for each game will be real handy at the end of that.


Speaking of

1. Please Nom up to 4 characters from games not on the Ranked List per division.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a game with data, and as always CK brand tournaments include anything from a ranked game as ranked.
2. Additionally, suggest up to 3 characters from ranked games per division.

I haven't really decided whether to roll or construct this one, both have their issues, but hey, time to go nuts and stuff.  Maybe.

In either direction the plan is to do that this weekend.
