Week 5 - Semifinals

Myria (BoFs) Myria vs Seymour Seymour (FFX)

Kay
Myria smashes Seymour right in all of his weaknesses, just like she smashed me after four hours of monotonous fighting with underleveled characters and finally emerging victorious because I ran out of items, MP, and finally HP... Sorry, was my bitter showing?

Myria: 47
Seymour: 25

CmdrKing
Things seem pretty hopeless for Seymour, don't they? Yuna's still avoiding him, people are out to kill him just because he's already dead, and Myria lies between him and a long-deserved Godlike Championship. He can't even ask his father for advice in classic Disney feel-good fashion, since of course his father is dead and Sent. What's a priest to do?
He goes to see the Pope, of course. Then again, the DL is a bit short on Popes, and those that there are, like Zera, manage to be crazier than Seymour.
So, you have to one-up the Pope, meaning God (Goddess, Creator, Buddah, whatever your particular religious inclination dictates). Hey, the DL even has plenty of those.
Of course, they're scared stiff of Myria too. So they can't be obvious in helping Seymour.
Ultimately, as Gods, Goddesses, etcetera often do, they aided Seymour via their faithful. Now, how something like Alex hitting Myria with the power of the Red Dragon, or a stray Bonebreak, and so on were mistaken as Seymour attacking will never be certain.
What's less certain is how Seymour will get out of this victory without some crushing defeat down the road at the hands of one rather pissed of little girl/hydra thing/deity...

Kratos Aurion (ToS) Kratos Aurion vs Lulu Lulu (FFX)

CmdrKing
Lulu has an easy win here, but not for the reasons you expect. Nope, it's not Flare, or Death, or her... assets that take the day this week. Instead, it's her friendship with Tidus.
Now, you're almost certainly asking what that has to do with anything. Well, see, it turns out Tidus can pull off a mean Yggdrasil impersonation. And as we all know, Kratos takes an awful lot of convincing to ignore what Yggdrasil asks of him, meaning that even if Kratos eventually shrugs it off, Lulu's had ample time to capitalize and finish her opponent off.
No one ever said winning was an honest business, I guess.

Lulu: 29

Worker 8 (FFT) Worker 8 vs Marle (Nadia Guardia) Marle (Nadia Guardia) (CT)

Halbarad
It definitely wasn't what anyone expected.

Worker 8's run through Middle was already being acclaimed as one of the weirdest in the Duelling League's history, between cooking his opponents and contributing (if indirectly) to one of the largest, most undignified brawls seen in the DL. And now, it was the finals.

Marle stood in the ring, definitely on her guard. Between what happened to Lo Wen (and herself shortly afterward) the week before, she wasn't entirely sure she WANTED to play this match out - it certainly wasn't something she was favored for. But giving up on the finals match... just didn't sit right with the Guardian princess.

"..."

"Yeah, I know it's probably going to be weird, but I've got to give it a shot, you know?"

"...?"

"Thanks, but I'll be okay. I've heard he's easy to confuse, so I can give it my best."

"..."

"Thanks, Crono. You always know just what to say."

The day of the match arrived without incident. Upon the insistence of some of the League's higher-ups (notably led by Piastol) Worker 8 was thoroughly inspected for any sort of foreign substances - or at least an attempt at inspection was made. The 'bot was hardly cooperative, and refused to allow the inspectors access. Since it wasn't actually a formal requirement, the inspectors allowed the bot to enter the arena without further incident.

And so the match began. It seemed perfectly normal at first, for all that Marle seemed outmatched in terms of raw power, and then... the princess turned her hind end towards the robot and slapped it a couple of times in her trademark Provoke attack - a frequent tool of the princess in her matches; the confusion on her opponent's face was usually quite helpful, and the roars of appreciation from the crowd didn't hurt either.

But this time, it didn't quite work as usual. Worker 8 did indeed stop, looking rather stunned for a moment, and then...

"Rump Roast... recipe confirmed."

"What was tha... oh noooooo!"

Worker 8 advanced on Marle quickly, batting aside the frantic bolts from her crossbow as he neared her position.

"Step 1. Tenderize meat."

Seizing the princess by her waist, Worker 8 hauled the blonde off the ground, turning her around as the stunned crowd watched in shock. The first resounding *SMACK* of his metallic fist into Marle's hindquarters resounded clearly throughout the arena, although the following six blows were definitely NOT audible due to the squalling of the now kicking-and-screaming Nadia. Around the third blow the crowd erupted in laughter, and it wasn't long after that when a blue-coated man with red hair leaped into the arena, raining blows all over the robot. The officials quickly charged into the arena, separating all three combatants rather quickly.

In the aftermath, it was clearly ruled that the match belonged to the robot. Even apart from the illegal interference, it was clear to the judges that Worker 8 was definitely in no danger of losing the match from the point at which the 'tenderizing' had begun.

As for Marle? Well, rumor has it that she STILL winces whenever she tries to sit down...

Worker 8: 53
Marle (Nadia Guardia): 22

Kay
Marle realizes that her crossbow bolts bounce off the solid steel that is Worker 8 and realizes with some apprehension that this match is not going to be kind to her - whether or not Provoke is allowed.

Alanna82
Congrats Worker 8. Now you can be back where you belong. In Heavy.

ChichiriMuyo
It's a cruel twist of fate that Worker 8 even ended up in middle. Frankly, somebody should have handed him the title weeks ago to save his opponents some severe pain.

RadLink5
umm... Does slapping your butt trully inflict chaos upon machines? o_O

Sheena Fujibayashi (ToS) Sheena Fujibayashi vs Flare Flare (S4)

Dunefar
I would need to carve a :rollseye: onto the face of the moon to access my proper feelings about Sheena winning this match. She's trying to beat someone with both healing AND wind of sleep, as well as a dash of magical damage? Flare crushes her like a bug making a big and juicy splatter against my windshield, man. A chesty bug, but still a bug!

Sheena Fujibayashi: 12
Flare: 28

Love Attorney Flonne in
"Summoning from the Heart"

~CmdrKing

CmdrKing
The trail was going well. Tidus had done an amazing job painting Seymour as the most dispicable person he had ever met. Auron, the legendary guardian himself, had provided shocking tales of Seymour's complete obsession with power and villainy. Yuna's moving testimony of her love for Tidus had moved the court to tears.
Leo, sitting high above the proceedings, stared down at the (theoretically) young attorney. "Flonne, do you have any further witnesses?"
"Yes I do, your honor! I call Seymour Guado to the stand!"
Shock rippling through those in attendance, Seymour calmly came forward, smiling in his small, deranged way.
Flonne paced, hands firmly clasped behind her back. "Mr. Guado! Please explain to the court your relationship to my client."
Seymour chuckled slightly. "But of course. Lady Yuna is my fiancé, ever since she accepted my proposal some months ago."
Flonne tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I see. Describe your encounters since then."
"Lady Yuna is a very... independant woman. She and her guardians have attacked me several times. But what is death before a marriage as perfect as ours?"
"So! Would you say Lady Yuna loves you?"
"No, but really, what does love matter?"
"Ah HAH! You plan to marry someone you don't even love!"
Big Joe hurriedly stood up. "Your honor! We must vigorously object to these wild aligation! This muchacha is clearly badgering an honorable man!"
Leo's gaze was impenetrable. "Overruled. However, I believe I have heard quite enough. Please sit down, Ms. Flonne."
Flonne's ribbon drooped. "Okay..."
Leo continued on. "Maester Guado, please stand." He waited a moment, then spoke again. "Throughout the trial, we have heard time and again of your obsessive, violent, and highly dangerous nature, even attempting to force Lady Yuna into marriage after your own death. As such, I find this engagement to be null and void. Please leave the courtroom quietly now."
Seymour seemed to consider making a scene, but upon noticing Yuna reading and waiting to summon an Aeon, thought better and departed.

Flonne still sat after everyone had departed. After all her work, it wasn't Love that had saved the day, but hate and death. She hardly noticed as Yuna and Tidus came up to her.
Tidus spoke first. "Aww, cheer up! It all turned out okay, and that Seymour guy won't be pestering Yuna for a long time!"
Flonne, teary-eyed, managed to sob out her thoughts. "But... if Love can't win here, maybe... maybe..."
Yuna spoke. "Don't worry... Love triumphed today... and that's... what... really matters..."
Flonne perked up. "You're right! There's a lot of people trying to defend their love out there, and someone has to help them!" Her resolve shined true as ever. "And they can count on Flonne, Attourney at Love, to be that someone!"

The room was silent in the wake of Flonne's stirringly emotional but somewhat legally clueless case. Leo and the court were waiting patiently for Big Joe to begin his testimony, although from the look on Leo's face, he was getting tired of waiting. Silence had reigned for a solid minute or more.

Seymour was losing his infamous serenity. He nudged his lawyer discreetly. Big Joe remained still, hands folded under his chin, contemplating.

"Well?" Leo asked pointedly.

"Don't bother me," said Big Joe, startling the room. "I'm contemplating the nature of a love... spurned."

Leo looked outraged by the first part, but seemed to settle at the second half, curious in spite of himself. "Would you care to tell us your conclusions?" he prodded again.

Joe stood, tears in his eyes. At the back of the courtroom, hundreds of women screamed with admiration. (Police attempting to wrestle them out met horrible fates.) He spoke compellingly of one poor man's heart, and of justice, and of cruel women who cheat on you when your back is turned but THAT'S OKAY, BE A MAN, when she comes back crying you gotta be right to her.

Flonne bounced back, full of righteous energy, but Leo's eyes had lit at the mention of "justice", and he had been thoroughly sold.

On their way out, Flonne steeled herself to go up to Joe and offer him a friendly hand, prepared to compliment him on his victory... And he walked right past her. She stared after him, shocked, as he walked to his throng of fans and posed for them.

Thus was an eternal rivalry born...!

Mad Fnorder
Flonne is the queen when it comes to Love. She's the title holder of the World Love Federation. The high scorer in Love Love Revolution. Secretary-General of the United Nations of Love.

Therefore, no one is surprised as part of her closing statement, a massive musical number featuring a Prinny kickline, Tidus and Yuna dancing up front, and Huey Lewis and the News busting through the ceiling to blare "Power of Love" through the courthouse, gets the win.
