Season 38, Week 3
Samus
(Suikoden III)

It's tough being Samus. Sure he beat Kasim Hazil in a battle to the death, both nabbing his first arena win and claiming some long overdue respect. But you know what he had to do right after the fight was over? Yep, listen to Lilly yell "pointers" and "advice" at him about his fighting style. It's enough to drive a man to drink, I tell ya. Now this stupid bint Silmeria's gonna roll up and try to cause trouble? No sir, not today. Samus is packing a wind rune and a stylish haircut. Yes, the wind rune is known as the slayer of the gods. Putting this foolish goddess to sleep and slicing her to ribbons will be easier than beating up Reed for his lunch money! (After all, someone has to be lower on the food chain than Samus) He's not gonna take this god's abuse for long!...after all, Lilly is waiting in the wings, threatening to yell at him for not properly parrying Silmeria's arrows. Argh.

Silmeria Valkyrie demonstrated last week that she should be taken seriously, with her victory over the reigning Light champion Palom. But Silmeria is looking for a win in a higher division! Three victories are all that separate the youngest valkyrie from a title of her own, all that separate her from being one division closer to her sisters. Her foe this week is one who Silmeria might have empathized with in kinder times - just as the valkyrie is overshadowed by her more prominent sisters, Samus is a footnote to his mistress, Lilly. Nevertheless, Silmeria will show no pity to the forgettable swordsman - Stony Decree will turn him into a fine statue, and if that fails, Target Throat will render his only distinguishing feature, his Wind Rune, as useless as he is. Regardless, he will be little more than target practice for this deadly valkyrie archer - practice for when she finally fights a worthy opponent.

Being an attendant to an...imperious...girl is hard work some times.

First, running her bath, then getting her clothes ready, then washing her clothes, guard duty outside the windows to the bathroom to make sure no perverts get in, general cleaning, answering to several random commands from Lilly, finally getting ahold of Reed so you can get to your match, and all this after being kept up all night trying to find the cricket in Lilly's room so she could sleep-at least, that was the theory, and what she called him in for, she really did seem to be snoring all the times he was looking, but always managed to wake him up when he stopped trying-...

"Why is he asleep?" Silmeria asked, curiously, as Samus snored on his feet.

"Lady, you'll be doing him a favor if you beat him up anyways." Reed called out from the crowd. "Recovering from it'll be the first good rest he's gotten in weeks."

Silmeria shrugged, and went to work.

Samus and Reed really wish they could get job reassignments.

Sadly, no one else wants the job of taking care of Lilly.

Short of a court martial that no one sane would charge them with, they're going to be by Lilly Pendragon's side a looooong time.

But at least, after a match, sometimes they get a break.
