Season 19, Week 2
Rico Banderas
(Xenogears)

Rico may not admit any emotion outside of irritation, but the prospect of facing a fearsome parasitic healer in his first Middle matchup has to be intimidating. However, Kislev's forgotten prince can take consolation in two facts; his opponent is as sluggish as he, and manages to take physical punishment more poorly than Rico withstands a magical assault. In fact, Rico's mighty Deathblows may well end the match before the first incantation! And should the first attempt fail to do the trick, Steel Fist is always available to give Rico that extra punch needed to put the wizened mage out of the picture.

The man with a hundred runes is back to make his second appearance in the Arena. After being humiliated eleven seasons back by the he/she/it girl Kanon, he’s back to cram his magic in the faces of all his opponents. Crowley has already whipped one XG character before, and he doesn't fear the even weaker one that stands as his next opponent. While Rico might be intimidating, Crowley’s wind magic will leave the mutant wishing he’d never come into the arena. Light might have feared Rico, but a little taste of Middle will make him wish he were back...

*A day before the match.*

A mysterious cloaked figure shoved Crowley aside, as he was walking the hallways of the DL Arena, from his room to the library.

As he turned to berate the person, a whisper was heard from under the hood. "I'll be in your room. Act as though everything is normal and go about your buisiness." Before Crowley, mystified, could say a word, the cloaked figure walked on and disappeared around a corner. He shrugged and went on to the library, in no particular hurry to talk to whoever this was anyhow...

*Four hours later.*

"Harumph." Said the cloaked figure to Crowley as he walked in. "You certainly took your time."

"...Let me guess. This is about the match tomorrow, and you wanting a favor or something in exchange for a tip or some scheme. Perhaps you could tell me why this is at all neccisary. I have the power of 100 Runes at my fingertips-"

"Yes, and you know they'll only let you use the one. Come on, you may not be in serious trouble, but I'd love to see this won....ah, throughly. And with the same pain for him he put me through, returned double to him." The man said viciously, pulling off his hood.

"...hmmm. I knew I recognized that voice. You still didn't have enough last time, hmmm. Well, why not. Let's hear it. I can always just blow you out a window if I don't like it."

*20 hours later.*

As Ricardo Banderas entered the arena, he knew something was wrong. He couldn't see his opponent anywhere, and he could hear a strange squeaking sound....

"CHU!" A massive, bellowing voice was heard to say.

Chu-Chu peered into the Arena, reached in, and grabbed the totally stunned Rico. "Chu have been hiding from me, chu! But a nice man told me where to find chu! Now we'll have chu spend all week together!" She said, totally unable to hear Rico's swearing and death-threats against pink fuzzy things from the distance she was holding him at.

And, as the crowd watched, Chu-Chu bounded away from the Arena, Rico still in hand.

"...Well, that worked." Brey said, smiling at the crowd's totally stunned faces. Turning on his heel, he walked out of the arena with Crowley.

"Yes, and it was absolutely nothing like the idea you had." Crowley said, smacking Brey upside the head.

"What was wrong with my plan?" Brey said, offended.

"Besides that it involved me in a Chu-Chu outfit? Or how about the second plan, when you couldn't talk me into that travesty, where I was supposed to ask Meg and Juppo to make a Chu-Chu robot? Or how about the idea where I was supposed to talk another female Chu-Chu into coming here, hmmm? Never mind that you didn't, and still don't, know where to find one. Or how about..."

Despite Crowley's harsh words as he walked into the hallways with Brey, he was wearing a broad smile on his face, the first that he could recall in recent memory. Perhaps the two of them worked well together...as long as he kept Brey in line.
