A kick, a punch, it's all in the mind! Final Fantasy I's Grand Master is as simple and straightforward as middles come. As a brawler, he relies on the power of his fists to deliever crushing blows to the enemies. He might not be one of the most refined fighter in middle, but he's certainly one of the most respected. His first opponent is a frail little girl, without much in the way of defenses or staying power. A few well timed critical hits should be more than enough to finish off Lilka, leaving plenty of time afterwards for Grand Master to hit the gym and prepare his body and mind for yet another trial.

Lilka Eleniak might not be as renowned as her predecessor Cecilia, but she's got her fair share of tricks. It's in her role as healer and stat-buffer extraordinaire that she'll prevail this week over the one-dimensional Grand Master: successive castings of Quick to let her outspeed her opponent, Shield to weaken his blows, and Hi-Heal to keep her alive. The Light Warrior lacks the skills to finish her on his first turn, and once Lilka's speed and defense have been raised to stratospheric heights, it all goes downhill for the martial artist, as he faces the humiliation of being smacked into submission by an umbrella-wielding adolescent.

It's an unstated rule of martial arts - the stranger the weapon, the more potent it's wielder. Therefore, Grand Master is rather mundane and weak. Any clod can use his fists or nunchucks to lay down the kung fu fighting. Lilka? An umbrella? Holy crap, she must be a real grand master!
So it was a sad day when Hypered, Quickened Lilka pounded Grand Master into the pavement. But don't worry, the school of umbrella arts is always taking new members. Next time - Grand Master, Parasol Champion!
