More bawwwww. It's still entertaining. As long as it's entertaining, I'm satisfied. I don't give two shits if it's accurate to the hundreths to the novels.

What they've done is at least consistant within the show itself. They never showed Last Order to have lost her memories in the show, I don't think. (Could be wrong here)

I'm not saying the ep was perfect. Sure, they could have lost the Sister fanservice and they could drop Index from the entire show and I'd be happy, but eh. Oh well. I can deal.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni getting a fighting game.  Note the "grope" super at 1:24 in the second video.

Why are you excited over lolibots? Either way, it was a good episode.  Less time talking about boring stuff and more robots vs. robots, although wtf was that mech Archibald was piloting?

Umineko... fighting... game... >.>;; Whygodohwhy....

School Rumble: Hey, this is funny, I forgot that I liked anime.

Axis Powers Hetalia: This is also funny. But not as coherent. It disturbs me how good it is at teaching me about Europeon history... >.>;;

Black Cat: I want to watch this after seeing a cool review of it on That Guy With The Glasses.

School Rumble is great.  I suggest watching the dub if you're not already.

---

Nadesico - Solid overall I guess.  Can't really point at any one thing and say it's good but I liked it well enough.  Movie was a snoozefest though.

Baccano - Also pretty good.  Mostly Firo, Isaac, and Miria being awesome.

Macross - Mediocre, but not bad.  Just... didn't find the plot or characters entertaining I guess.

Bamboo Blade - Watching this in English now.  Still good fun.  Maybe I'll finish it this time!

Macross - Show is cheese.  Kaifun is quite possibly sub-Shion, Misa wasn't as bad but still generally terrible, the love triangle bullshit was painful, and the show is generally not good but it is 80's cheese.  Also had SPACE TUNA.

this was bandied about in chat.  anyway, for those of you who did not know, there is an anime coming out.  it has a t-rex on rollerblades.  that is all.
Rocky: you do know what an A-bomb is, right?
Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

Started reading the Linebarrel manga. I'm only 1.5 chapters in and it's vastly superior to the episode of the anime I watched - Koichi is dickish, but in a way that's somewhat amusing, instead of me wanting to punch his face in right away. The lack of Ali Project and Hirai SEED-clone faces doesn't hurt, either.

Finished watching all the Darker Than Black stuff. The first season was monster-of-the-week styled fun, with a weird semi-villainous protagonist who managed to be engaging enough, although the character interaction between major players kind of suffered due to the whole 'focus on character X for this arc, then make them fade into the background completely". The music was great and the animation/action was competent if not exactly stellar. The overarching plot, once it kicked in about ~3/4ths of the way through, was decent! Really needed to have a stronger overall arch throughout the series though. Credits for making the organization trying to cause massive death the 'good guys' as it were...

The OVA series was nice on the action part and I enjoyed the drama set up between the male and female leads. But oh my god was that conclusion trippy. Again with the good music, but add superior technical details.

The second season I found enjoyable mainly due to character development throughout the entire series. Suou and Hei played off each other rather well and the entire season brought this relationship to the fore. Stockholm syndrome at its finest! The overarching plot was present from start to finish, but the conclusion was a little hard to follow due to trippiness. The animation/action in season 2 was absolutely fantastic, and the music, while taking a sharp turn in genre from its predecessors, served its purpose well enough.

Got caught up on all the translated chapters of Linebarrels, which is sadly only about 8 volumes out of 14 released so far. Good stuff, I'm left wanted more. Seriously tempted to hunt down raws for the remainder, since at worst I can enjoy the mecha fights.

For a brief moment I considered picking the anime back up, but reading some episode summaries online reminded me why I thought the series sounded terrible back when it first came out:

Quote
Shit happens and they’re nearly crushed by debris, if not for Yajima. This causes a reaction in Kouichi and he punches the debris to pieces which also awakens Emi’s memories. Then BOOB INTERFACING occurs, Kouichi goes in to SEED FACTOR mode and summons Linebarrel, turning in to his GAR version. Damn, the BGM at this part was awesome too.

*twitch*

Quote
If I had to pick out the best bits, it would probably be Hayase getting taken away by a stretcher every time he got mixed up with disastrous things, like walking in on Emi when she putting on her bra (oppai!!)

*twitch* *twitch*

Quote
Emi’s character keeps getting messed up in weirder ways too. From being moekko amnesiac to tsun-tsun to loving bonsai to my-pace… it seriously makes me wonder if Gonzo’s trying to pander her to the lowest-common denominator or something.

*twitch* *twitch* *twitch*

I'm torn between pretending the anime doesn't exist and slowing working my way through the entire series so I can write a proper frothing episode-by-episode hatchet-job on all the ways Gonzo screwed this up.

It's 16 volumes. Just ignore the anime completely. It really makes you feel less painful. The more you watch it the more you'll compare it to the manga and that hurts you even more.

Hrm, could you PM me links to volumes 15/16 then Niu? I haven't been able to find anything past 14.

Also, could you explain what the hell happened at the start of vol 14? All I can make out is that Linebarrel seemed to go into some super-mode in which it stopped responding to Koichi's controls.

Links I don't have, as I liked Linebarrel enough to buy the actual books.

As for the super Linebarrel thing...
Linebarrel is really Emi's dad: Amagatsu, the creator of the Machina. He has implanted his own brain in Linebarrel, using the Linebarrel as the weapon to destroy all Machina as Machinas are actually the direct cause of the human annihilation that occurred in future. After detecting the presence that almost all remaining Machinas are going to have Factor, Amagatsu wakes up and goes into a kill all mode.
Also, Katou is actually Amagatsu's student, who is trying to rewrite the history for his teacher.

Niu PLEASE don't shove unmarked spoilers into your posts. Good lord, what if hinode wants to actually read the last two books and would be willing to wait? What about everyone else who might actually want to read it too?

Um, wow. That's far more interesting than anything I had imagined was going on. Now I'm *really* hoping that manga Linebarrel will end up in an SRW sometime after it ends... which sadly, based on prior SRW history, will never happen.

It's not totally fair to comment on the anime when I only have blog posts and wikipedia summaries to go on, but it really does feel like every time the anime diverges it ends up with something far less interesting than what the manga comes up with. The difference between the two versions of Miu/Painkiller is just ridiculously lopsided, for instance.

Niu PLEASE don't shove unmarked spoilers into your posts. Good lord, what if hinode wants to actually read the last two books and would be willing to wait? What about everyone else who might actually want to read it too?

In fairness, I specifically asked for spoilers in this case. The manga is unlicensed and scanlations are going at a snail's pace, so it'll be a minor miracle if I get a chance to actually read those volumes within the next five years.

Your general point's valid, unmarked spoilers are bad, but at least in the case of obscure unlicensed manga it's less egregious than with something like FF13.

On a related note, feel free to send me any other interesting tidbits for volumes 9+, Niu; I'm definately curious about the story and don't mind spoilers, especially in a case like this where translations probably won't be happening quickly. Just do so via private messaging, or use the size modifier if you must post it publically.

I should have been more honest. I want to read the manga and don't want spoilers. Regardless, you're right and I should have read your post asking. Sorry.

Kurokami V2 -

Continuing where we left off, where the fact that the main character was supposed to be part of the unlucky/unspecial people was being completely ignored by having him be lucky and special, Keita continues to be lucky and special in this half of the series. Most of all when he has his root presented to him and consequently dies as per the rules of the doppleliner system, but comes back to life due to a technicality in the pact system which somehow no-one knows about despite there being numerous pacts between people who are closer than Keita and Kuro are. To be fair, most of the pacts we see are with Roots, but the other major one we know of which isn't is certainly a closer relationship. To say nothing of the fact that given that the death penalty is apparently applied by the root uncontrollably draining out the sub's Terra, for all that that doesn't even begin to match how we saw the rest of the sub deaths work, why isn't Root!Keita still draining the Terra which Kuro is providing to Keita?

I like how there are supposed to be two Subs for every Root, but all the Master Root creation we see has only the one Sub being killed off. Unless the doppleliner system causes both Subs to die when even only one of them encounters the Root, which isn't something that was ever suggested, there are a lot of Subs being killed off-camera or the show is just ignoring its own rules.

To no-one's surprise, Reishin comes back. I didn't expect the show to try to act like he had good intentions all along. It really doesn't excuse anything that had been done beforehand, and I don't see it making any sense that the person you would expect should have been informed about this wasn't. Unless, of course, informing them would have woken the third Masagami early, but this isn't something the show indicates and I should not try to come up with excuses for it. Worse is that Akane doesn't say anything either and just looks to be brainwashed or evil.

Not a fan of Nam.

The ending is annoying with Keita somehow managing to take the doppleliner system with him and there being no reason that he should be able to do something like that. Oh Keita you are certainly the least special character of all time.

The DVD runs directly into the special episode after the ending and it is somewhat annoying due to slight mood whiplash. Bit of poor form there.

Daitarn 3 -

Man.

I expected more along the lines of James Bond x Tekkaman Blade x First Half GaoGaiGar. It is a mere shadow of that.

After the first episode, most of the early episodes are flat and uninspiring. Fortunately, it does improve on average around halfway through, but still dips occassionally afterwards.

I was certainly not expecting Don Zauser to have been dead all along, aside from being revived in the final episode. Vaguely nice twist. That tricksy Koros.

Plot twist in the last episode, that the Meganoids were just trying to collect energy so they could leave the solar system and settle somewhere away from humans, runs considerably counter to the events of the series and I don't really know what they were thinking. It can't really be a fake out since it's from Koros talking to Don Zauser. Bizarre. And not brought up when they fight Banjo.

MSG Char's Counterattack -

It was okay? Some of the dialogue was atrocious, it had anti-adult themes, people had some annoying motivations, newtype lamery, Hathaway, and Quess all existed, and the ending was horrible. On the other hand was reasonably pretty.

MSG F91 -

Fairly badly disjointed at points. A number of times it skips back and forth between colonies without explicitly calling it out until you recognise that it must have happened at some point.

Federation and CB are all horrible people. The show seems to try to render CB in the best light but I think this was a bad attempt at a fakeout.

Shockingly, doesn't have all that much in the way of newtype lamery! But there is still some. Sigh.

Anti-adult themes again. Getting somewhat sick of those.

The bugs were not as gruesome as I had expected, no worse than the violence I had been seeing in Daitarn. Not sure where I got the idea that they were supposed to be nightmarish.

Reasonably pretty.
