Writeup Graveyard / Philia (vs Arche)
« on: May 14, 2010, 09:54:56 PM »
Philia's not a witch, but she's pretty handy with a blade. Squishy wizarding types, like Arche, may be deluded into thinking that they have a shot against her in the field of magic, but that's where the 'hit people hard with sharp things' part comes in. Sure, Arche has instant death....but a sword through the gut brings death fast enough, wouldn't you agree? The fact is that besides Distortion Arche is extremely frail and vulnerable, while Philia at least can take a couple hits. So Arche can go ahead and try to cast...but that leaves her wide open to anything Philia cares to throw at her. Elemental resistances only get you so far, and Arche will fall long before instant death can take effect. Arche seems nice enough, supposed perversion aside, but there can be only one Middle Champion, and Philia is going to make sure that it's her!

Writeup Graveyard / Kato (vs. Violetta)
« on: May 01, 2010, 03:24:14 AM »
The man, the myth, the chin. Kato's back in Godlike, ladies and gentlemen, and he's not going anywhere anytime soon! Violetta is fast, yes. Strong, yes. Durable? Not durable enough! Kato, meanwhile, has tons and tons of HP that Violetta has to hack through in order to win, which is not going to be easy thanks to his defensive stats backing him up. While Violetta is wasting her numerous turns hitting a brick wall, Kato can happily blow apart her own paltry HP reserve with scarcely a thought. Final Revelation hurts, and he can pile them on in short order. Violetta, having no way of healing, will fall shortly. It was a disgraceful fall to Heavy, but Kato is back where he belongs, and he's going to stay there come hell, high water, or scythe chicks.

Writeup Graveyard / Guido (vs Meg)
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:16:43 PM »
Guido's not known for being a OHKO kind of guy, but he has what it takes to last quite awhile. And this battle is going to take a long, long time. After the usage of the Trick Rune all Meg really has going for her is lots and lots of healing. With her own pathetic physical damage, all Guido has to do is keep slugging along, slowly run her out of charges, then move in for the kill. His own Mogay Shot has plenty of uses, and thus he can quickly run her Water Rune out of gas with this technique that....does the same damage as his physical. On another note, Silent Lake? No problem! While she's taking forever to cast it, Guido can pile on the damage..and his physical will do the rest. And really, what else can be said about this match?

Writeup Graveyard / Milich (vs Tsai)
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:11:26 PM »
As deadly as he is beautiful, the most fabulous the great generals is ready to take Light by storm! Up against him is some...guy with a spear? Whatever! Milich simply overpowers his opponent in every category. There is nothing Tsai does that Milich doesn't do better. He's got more HP, more defense, more damage, crits more often, better hair, better fashion sense, more...what was I talking about? In any case, Tsai doesn't stand a chance, period. There's no shame in being beaten by one of the best, and the great general of the Scarlet Moon Empire certaintly ranks high on that list! Better luck next time, Tsai.

5
Writeup Graveyard / Philia (vs Cielo)
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:04:54 PM »
Philia's return to Middle brings her against Cielo, who is simply outmatched. His absorption of lightning is annoying, granted, but Philia is far from a one-trick pony. She has Holy Lance for economical damage, Explode for a little more power, or Black Hole for a knockout move. She also has her tech skills if necessary. As for status...well, it's gonna be hard to get off a Sleep or a Charm if he's dead! His status is by no means 100%, and every turn he takes missing is going to cost him dearly. Only if he manages to get Sleep off will he stand a chance...and it's not like Philia's going to take all this lying down, of course. And with only his status to note, there's nothing else he brings to the table. With Clemente in hand, Philia's perfectly capable of sending this goofy Jamaican back to the Junkyard!

Writeup Graveyard / Amy (vs Natan)
« on: April 23, 2010, 10:08:25 PM »
Being a doctor has its advantages. One of them is the ability to heal yourself. Amy Sage has this ability, among with many other magical attributes. Natan...has a gun and some attacks that don't really do a whole lot. But it's going to be a lack of healing that takes him down. She can heal her own wounds quickly and easily, for as many rounds as necessary, in between her own attacks. With no way to recover, Natan will slowly but surely be worn down by the dedicated physician, even though her individual  techniques are not particularly impressive. With a slow but sure pace, Amy's victory is inevitable.

7
Writeup Graveyard / Mukumkuku (vs. Futch)
« on: April 23, 2010, 10:02:58 PM »
Mukumuku has two things going for them as he enters the arena this week: He's adorable, and he's up against some loser still whining about a dead dragon. Where's the heart? Where's the spirit? Well, Mukumuku will just have show this upstart both of these things in the battle this week. People may scoff at the pint-sized competitor, but they just don't know his true strengths. With his masterful ability to both forage for nuts and climb trees, is it any wonder that the squirrel hero can stand up to the best of Light? Futch is going down, but Mukumuku is moving up-all the way to the championship!

8
Writeup Graveyard / Orhla (vs. Olan)
« on: April 23, 2010, 09:59:16 PM »
Olan is known for his ability to control space and time. What's not known for is any ability to take a hit whatsoever. Luckily for Orhla, that means she's more than able to break the puny little scholar before he can so much as mumble a spell. And since Olan has literally nothing else to his name, that's all she needs. Olan's laughable stats also means that even if he does manage to get a Galaxy Stop off, the outcome is by no means certain. This fight will be quick, brutal, and entirely in Orhla's favor. Just as you might expect from a Light match of this calibur.

9
Writeup Graveyard / Neimi (vs. Gafgarion)
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:19:57 PM »
Neimi needs to finish this battle quick. Gafgarion's parasitic healing is dangerous to her low HP, and his replenished HP total will see him through an extended slugfest. Luckily, this is what the speedy archer succeeds at. Since Gaffy almost certainly won't try to cross swords, instead preferring to sit back and Night Sword, Neimi will use her bows and try to keep her distance. Hopefully she can spend at least a few turns outside Night Sword's range, and pepper him with arrows. Her Silver Bow can do plenty of damage, and she may in fact wind up ending it all with a lucky crit. Either way, if she can land a few arrows before Gafgarion can close the gap, she'll be in the driver seat and his Dark Knight skills won't save him in time. This will be a tough fight...but it can't be any tougher than fighting dark gods, can it?

10
Writeup Graveyard / Wilder (vs. Mist)
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:08:53 PM »
It's not right to have to beat up some little girl, but a duel's a duel, right? Wilder's no slouch when it comes to fighting. As a seasoned veteran of the war that seized the Grasslands, he's put his trusty weapon to good use. And while he's never fought gods or whatever, he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Mist has always been frail, and Wilder intends to exploit that advantage as much as possible. She can, of course, heal herself, but that's only a temporary solution, and during that time she can't attack. And once her charges run out on her staff she has no recourse but to try and blast away with her sword. But can she kill Wilder in time, considering he will take far less time to defeat her? Things are looking grim for Mist, but Wilder can only look forward to what else Light has in store for him after this victory.

Writeup Graveyard / LC Chan (vs. Grobyc)
« on: January 01, 2010, 07:59:09 PM »
Poor, poor Grobyc. Even the most naive martial artist knows that the old master always wins. And who fits that stereotype more than Long Chan Chan? Poor naming choice aside, he's got plenty going for him. His White Tiger Rune has a decent chance of causing Unbalance, which would quickly spell doom for his opponent. His own defenses should be more than enough to see him through anything Grobyc throws his way. And his own two fists, should he decide to go with regular attacking, can inflict massive damage in a short period of time. So, really, the only question here is just how long LC Chan will take to break his robotic opponent, and whether or not there's anyone in this Middle season that can withstand him.

12
Writeup Graveyard / Alys (vs. Kanon)
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:14:47 AM »
A boss...how annoying. Well, no matter. Alys might not have her trusty Death spell to fall back on here, but that's not all the experienced Hunter has under her belt. She also packs some rather nasty Fire damage under her belt, which will do wonders against Kanon's paltry HP total. Since neither side can really do much of anything about the damage they're taking, this will be quick and brutal. Alys just has to bum rush her opponent and hope that when the dust falls, she's still standing. Alys can also opt to use her other Wind spell or stat-boosting if she thinks she can get away with it, so she's not limited on options here either. In any case, this will be a tough match-and since when has Alys ever backed down from a fight?

13
Writeup Graveyard / Wiegraf (vs. Max)
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:08:49 AM »
A naive youth leading an army? Stop me if you've heard this one before...well, Wiegraf certainly has! Hoping to improve his track record to 1-3, Wiegraf has his usual array of Holy Sword techniques and impressive HP score and countering ability. He could go for magic, but he'll run out of the high level stuff very fast, and the low level junk isn't even worth mentioning. His own physical is high, but he does have to get past Wiegraf's evade..and he'll be eating Counter the entire time. Meanwhile, with no way to heal, Wiegraf's own blows will be doing irreparable damage, and of course there's always the chance that one of the status effects will kick in and end the match right there. So while his duels with Ramza were uninspiring, he can vicariously live out a needed victory against a much easier opponent. Who says you need a Holy Stone to kick ass?

14
Writeup Graveyard / Thomas (vs. Aisha)
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:00:30 AM »
The master of the castle can prove a surprisingly competent fighter in certain circumstances. In this case, the match is right up Thomas' alley. Since he only does physical damage he's perfectly capable of exploiting Aisha's physical weakness, while her resistance against magic attacks does nothing at all. Her own physical will have a tough time getting past Thomas' Repel and natural evasion. It's just a matter of time before his own onslaught eats through her meager HP, while she'll likely hit nothing but the wind. And soon her Light season will come to an untimely end as Thomas sends the monk packing and heads to the Light Finals!

Writeup Graveyard / Mirage (vs. Tosh)
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:06:15 PM »
As a seasoned fighter, Mirage has seen her fair share of Swordsmen. Tosh is a tough one, of course, but you should never bring a sword to a fist fight! Mirage can block his Paralysis move right off the bat, so that's out. He does have some nasty techs but Mirage has impressive defense and should be able to withstand multiple blows. In the meantime, she'll be dishing out her own attacks, all of which will definitely hurt like hell. This will be a straightforward brawl, since neither has much in the way of magic to worry about. Neither are very strong against Magic but this is moot since neither has any. Of course Tosh could boost his speed if he was so inclined but with Mirage beating his face in that might not be the best strategy. On the other hand, the best strategy would be to simply surrender, which Tosh is going to learn in person once he faces the mighty martial artist in battle this week!

Writeup Graveyard / Genevieve (vs. Mewtwo)
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:00:24 PM »
Well, well, well. Another day in the DL and Genevieve has to face some sort of...cat thing. No matter. Genevieve has plenty to bring to the table. First is her Indiscriminate, which has overkill magic damage of multiple types. Not enough for you? She also has a good physical with Contaminate Energy if Mewtwo doesn't Barrier. Either way she'll quickly bring Mewtwo's HP into the danger zone. If Mewtwo tries to Recover, he'll be locked in a heal loop until he dies or runs out of PP. If he goes for an all out offensive strategy he won't get past Genevieve's solid HP score before being ground into dust. And of course there's always Heal to be contended with if she takes too much damage. There's no shame in losing to such a powerful Undead, and there's no shame in bowing out in Week 2. Hopefully Mewtwo will recognize that when he loses!

17
Writeup Graveyard / Kyogre (vs. Diekbeck)
« on: November 27, 2009, 08:46:44 PM »
Some bucket of bolts? Really? That's the best Godlike can throw at the master of the oceans? Kyogre needs no introduction. He's fast, he's strong, he's got more ways to kill you than there are Zubats in caves, and he's more than ready to tear Diekbeck limb from limb. A Calm Mind or two to boost his damage to terrifying heights, and then a Hydropump or Waterspout to kill. With the additional damage boosting from Rain Dance there's no way Diekbeck can survive for very long. And even if he does some damage, Kyogre still has Rest up his nonexistant sleeve. Legendary Pokemon are Legendary for a reason, and Kyogre's going to show the DL just why by stomping Diekbeck into the ground.

Writeup Graveyard / Kurando (vs. Orlandu)
« on: October 17, 2009, 02:19:59 AM »
Sorry, old man. Kurando respects his opponents vigor, but he's quite simply outmached. Straight-on damage? Kurando shrugs it off and goes for the jugular with his ultimate fusion. MP-busting? Accomplishes nothing but speeding things up as Kurando uses physicals for the most part anyway. Status? Good luck pulling that off before you're dead! Kurando has a good counter for basically anything Orlandu can attempt, which is no mean feat. Haste is neat and all but there's not a whole lot he's going to be able to do with it, you know? When it comes right down to it even the Thunder God himself can't handle a Harmonixer as powerful as Kurando.

19
Writeup Graveyard / Dominia (vs. Collette)
« on: October 17, 2009, 01:55:12 AM »
Heh...some whiny little punk thinks she can take on an Elemental? Dominia likes to keep things simple. Just one damaging attack that ignores all evade. And that's all she's going to need, because Collete is FRAIL. Wet paper bags take more hits than Collette. Of course she has some techniques and stuff but Dominia has more than enough HP to survive a few hits. If Collette tries to buff her stats Dominia will have plenty of time to bring the hurt and it'll just prolong the inevitable. Her various elemental resistances make no difference here, and all her little tricks won't help either. Dominia's not the most varied dueller, but she does pack a punch, and what else do you need to take down this so-called savior?

Writeup Graveyard / Barubary (Vs Lyon)
« on: October 17, 2009, 01:42:06 AM »
It doesn't matter how big they are, Lyon can take them all down! Her Twilight Rune possesses enormous power, more than enough to send an overgrown lizard like Barubary Packing. After the opening Vermillion Sky, a few follow up Silent Afterglows will put a major hurting on her opponent. If he's still standing, she can quickly finish him off with a few sword strikes. Barubary is utterly average in anything, so he has no standout tricks to take down Lyon. He's also rather slow, meaning Lyon will have plenty of time to do as much damage as possible. Not that Barubary's going to be getting much time thanks to his mediocre HP. She, meanwhile, will easily survive his paltry damage to rip him to shreds. A true knight can always slay the dragon, and Lyon's more than up to taking down this one!

---

Foolish humans...no matter how many you kill, they keep on coming! Barubary's no slouch at crunching up the puny little buggers, and he's more than willing to take a piece out of this whiny little girl. Runes? Who cares about magic? Some Twilight nonsense can't stop Barubary's insurmountable onslaught. All he has to do is just keep on slugging away. She'll die soon enough, just like most of her wretched species. There's no need for any special tricks here, although Barubary does have some nice damage variety up his non-existent sleeves. Any way he decides to go, however, he'll still easily endure Lyon's pathetic scratches to achieve his ultimate victory. No matter how you slice it, a dragon is a dragon, and who would be so foolish as to assume a human could attack such a powerful creature and live?

21
Writeup Graveyard / Flonne (vs. Leena)
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:48:05 AM »
Flonne's never too happy about fighting against good people, but a duel's a duel, no? Flonne brings the table...absolutely nothing, except some minor skill in staves and some light magic. This magic does do some pretty decent damage, mind you. Leena has...a frying pan. The outcome cannot possibly be in doubt. A few blasts of Divine Ray and Leena will be in serious pain. Meanwhile, a few hits with the pan won't leave Flonne hurt too bad. Leena could never take much of a hit and she'll have a hard time surviving Flonne's magical onslaught. Power or Love or not, Leena's in for a serious beating, and Flonne's in for a glorious victory!

22
Writeup Graveyard / Kanji (vs. Yukiko)
« on: September 26, 2009, 03:28:14 AM »
Oooh, this is awkward. Kanji must now face one of his good friends and comrades in battle, and of course a real man never backs down from a fight! His opponent is frail, which is good because Kanji hits like a truck. With his defense boosting skill, he can also take quite a few Agidynes to the face. Not that she'll get much of a chance considering all the healing she'll have to do to stay alive. Of course, Yukiko is strong against electricity, but Kanji has plenty of physical attacks to use against the frail fighter instead. If Kanji manages to land a serious blow he can keep Yukiko healing, and as long as she's on the defensive Kanji has the match in the bag. One crit, or one miss on her part and it's all over. And eventually of course she'll run out of healing and SP for magical attacks....leaving her hitting Kanji over the head with her pitiful fan physical. Kanji's really a nice guy, but when the championship's on the line he can't hold anything back!

23
Writeup Graveyard / Vinsfeld (vs. Hervey)
« on: September 04, 2009, 08:39:32 PM »
Hervey has a really goofy name. I know that's not what you're used to in writeups, but arguing against faceless Suikoden scrubs means you have to aim low. Vinsfeld, on the other hand, is a perfectly respectable terrorist...well, maybe not, but he can do some damage. Hervey has some fire, but barely enough to give Vinny a sunburn. And the owner of Pure Ideals will have an easy time batting away Hervey's pathetic physicals. And, of course, Hervey takes hits like wet tissue paper. Vinsfeld isn't well known for absorbing punishing blows, either, but he at least beats out Suikoden Character #1244365! So in this race to the top of Light, Vinsfeld will leave Hervey in the dust, and hopefully continue his quest for Glory in Week 3!

24
Writeup Graveyard / Hiro (vs. Bosch)
« on: September 04, 2009, 08:35:13 PM »
Hiro was never a Dragonmaster, but then again Bosch wasn't ever a dragon, so I guess they're even. Or they would be, if it wasn't for the fact that Hiro packs quite a punch, can take more than a few hits, and generally outclasses his villainous opponent. Bosch can't quite take Hiro down in time, and his Absolute Defense will only get him so far. Speed isn't his strong suit, either, so the turn order won't be his friend. He can take a hit, true, but is it really enough for someone who faced down Zophar? And let's not forget how easily Hiro and company punked Ghaleon. So when you get right down to it, I guess Hiro's going to be doing some Dragon-slaying after all.

25
Writeup Graveyard / Delita (vs. Bowie)
« on: September 04, 2009, 08:28:41 PM »
Delita has a varied skillset with multiple attacks that can cause a number of status effects, anything from Stop to Confusion. Bowie has....a snazzy cloak. Delita backstabs people like it's a bodily function. Bowie...does absolutely nothing but be lead by the plot. Delita can take quite a hit and has a decent chance to block physicals. Bowie...has one shot of decent Lightning damage and then a cruddy physical after. I think you see where I'm going with this! While Delita usually gets what he wants by manipulation, he's not above getting his own hands dirty, and his various swordskill tricks should be more than enough to send this subpar hero packing.
