Title: Random Questions: OCTOBER IS SCARY MONTH
Post by: Veryslightlymad on September 22, 2015, 11:58:56 PM
We haven't had one of these for a while, or at least, I've been off board for like, three years, so it's time for one now. Just random questions. Mostly pop cultural, but hey, whatevs:

1. Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister, Bob Dylan - Fourth Time Around, Carole King - Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, Chico Buarque - Construcao, David Bowie - Rebel Rebel, Gal Costa - Baby, Interpol - Obstacle 1, Jens Lekman - Your Arms Around Me, Leonard Cohen - Master Song, Neutral Milk Hotel - ITAOTS, New Order - True Faith, The Cure - Lullaby, The National - Abel, The Tammys - Egyptian Shumba, Four Tops - Reach Out, TMBG - Ana Ng, Tom Waits - Hang Down Your Head, The Zombies - Hung Up on a Dream, The Kinks - Days
2. "What's broken can always be fixed / What's fixed will always be broken" - Jens Lekman
3. "Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist."
4. "Defeat Dycedarg's eldest brother"
5. Thai tea?
6. Peanut butter and chocolate tortillas?
7. Homemade spaghetti
8. Guile's Theme
9. I don't even like her comedy much, but I find Amy Schumer incredibly attractive
10. I don't think I am ever going to understand the appeal of metal. I get that a lot of it is musically complicated and the artists are usually great at their craft, but the entire aesthetic from folky metal to atmospheric stuff to speed metal is entirely lost on me and always has been. I would say it's because I'm not aggressive enough, but I know several people less active than I am who love metal, so I guess it's just one of those genres of music some are predisposed to like that others find totally inaccessible.

1. Forever (Kamelot)
2. A true, true friend helps a friend in need.
3. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
4. AH YOU OKAYH? BUSTAH WOLFR.
5. Have a Dr. Pepper.
6. Have a fresh chocolate chip cookie.
7. Shrimp scampi.
8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPjjnfGKrPc
9. Lots of people? I dunno, I have low standards.
10. Penguins are shit. They are asshole birds with very few redeeming qualities that live in a stupid part of the world that are vastly overrated because they are shaped like ovals.

1.    What are some of your favorite songs of all time?

God of Wine by Third Eye Blind, Ruska by Apocalpytica, Hope Vol 2 by Apocalpytica. There are others but those jump to mind immediately.

2. Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

"A star sign out of whack; a fradulent zodiac"

3. Now how about a movie quote?

"A smart man would stay inside." I'm butchering the quote, but it's from Nobody's Fool. Paul Newman's character says that to his son before getting out of the car and punching a cop in the nose for firing his gun at him.

4. Video game quote?

"Fear is a stupid emotion." Luca Blight. There are a lot of good quotes from games, but this one I like. Rejecting fear and going ahead with the unknown in life is an important thing. Of course in the case of Luca, it was a murderous psychopath rejecting his own imminent death but still!

5. Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

Non boozy: Diet coke. I like the taste of this and it's my favorite drink. Sue me!

Boozy: Jack and Coke. I don't like mixed drinks a lot (prefer drinking liquor straight) but this is a classic for a reason.

God is Dead drink: Mexican Car Bomb. (Rum, Tequila, and Dark Mexican beer)

6. How about a dessert?

Cookies and cream ice cream.

7.  In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

Pasta? I'm a pretty simple cook but I can do that right. Can do chicken well as well.

8.  You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGkTom0g3sc Hell of a song. It has a strong hook and then just is a dead sprint the rest of the way.

9. Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

Video game: Valkyrie Profile. Gameplay is bad, story snippets aren't long enough and I loathe platforming in RPGs.  Honorable mention to FF5 as well here.

Music: Zepplin. Fuck off, thanks.

TV: The Walking Dead. I should like this, but the pacing is awful.

Some cool questions.
K VSM. K.
I'll answer.

    1) What are some of your favorite songs of all time?
Scanners - Control (Carpenter brut remix), damn
Todd Terje - Delorean Dynamite, the best music for your car

    2) Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.
HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER
Actually works on me

    3) Now how about a movie quote?
It always comes down to various quotes from Patrick Bateman like
" I'm on the verge of tears by the time we arrive at Espace, since I'm positive we won't have a decent table. But we do, and relief washes over me in an awesome wave."
I love this movie so much

    4) Video game quote?
"They that remain grow weaker and weaker, an agony incomparable"
Not cool Valk

    5) Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink
Mojitos are wonderful and I'm sure you haven't got one recently.

    6) How about a dessert?
A rhubarb pie, if you ask nicely

    7) In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?
Sushi. I make some once per week and it is awesome.

    8) You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?
AMADEUS AMADEUS. AMADEUS AMADEUS AMADEUS. AMADEUS AMADEUS AMADEUS. OH OH OH AMADEUS

    9) Confess attraction to someone surprising.
Xavier Dolan in Tom at the farm. I don't like blondes.
Oh and I'm straight?

    10) Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details
Watching team based sports / MOBA esport. I have made efforts to watch both recently, going with an open mind etc. This is so mind numbingly repetitive and pointless, I don't get how anyone can get any enjoyment out of it.
Comic books. Art direction always seems to be awful, stories are sub-generic JRPGs power fantasies with questionable morals. Terrible. I never liked them even as a kid, though I did like superhero movies at one point.
Basically see the two topics below this one.

What are some of your favorite songs of all time?  Everything by the following artists David Bowie, Long Blondes, Electric Six, Los Campesinos!, Murder By Death, Divinyls, Blondie and more than I can think of.

Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

Quote
You said "send me stationary to make me horny"
So I always write you letters in multicolours
Decorating envelopes for foreplay
Damn extended metaphors, I get carried away
On the back of a natural disaster, fixed with parcel tape and with kids sticking plaster
Nothing says "I miss you" quite like war poetry you carved in your door with a Stanley knife

My year in lists
Stomping on your fingers as you're clinging on to the abyss
So put on every winter coat that you owned since '98
And every midnight sees the countdown to another awful day

I cherish with fondness the day (before) I met you
I cherish with fondness the day (before) I met you
I cherish with fondness the day before I met you

On your request, I compile a list
Of my top five resolutions for this year (one!)
I declined 'cause I decided that I (two!)
Do not believe in the New Year any more (three!)
And you must confess that at times like these
Hopefulness is tantamount to hopelessness (four!)
And I accept that it's time for a change but not in places like this with people like these (five! five! five! five! five!)

Now how about a movie quote?

I wish you had more time.  - Man on Fire.

Video game quote?

What can change the nature of a man.

Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

One cup of piss coming right up.

How about a dessert?

Ice cream.  Chocolate Honey Nougat

In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

Buttscotch Finger Biscuits.  They are pretty much butter and sugar.

You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

DMX-Men by DJ Nada One.

Confess attraction to someone surprising.

Tim Schaefer is pretty AND smart.

Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

You guys already know all of them because I don't shut the fuck up about them.

9.   Confess attraction to someone surprising.

Vladimir Lenin

Comic book movies are pretty corny, as well as TV shows in general, since I’d rather just read a book or play a game that is interactive.

Ten is good for now.

1. Slip Out- Beck/Mongolian Chop Squad
One Life - The Pillows
Somebody to Love - Queen

2.
I don't give my heart to no one cause I don't want to waste my time
I try to love this loneliness to slip out of this lonesome hole.

Regrets taught me how to make any hard decision
Peace is always by my side, but I've never felt it once.

3. "Well, that's just like... your opinion, man."

4. "Just remember before we go through this door. You ate that stuff, Fei."

5. Get the hell out of my bar.

6. Root beer float. I guess fulfills the previous one too.

7. Not really sure. I really like the beef soup and spaghetti sauce I make. OMG comfort food

8. I Just Walked In (To See What Condition My Condition Is In) - Kenny Rodgers

9. Nothing's really coming to mind.

10. Let's Plays. I can never make it more than 5 minutes into a video one.

1. What are some of your favorite songs of all time?

H..uhhhhh.  Um.  I think I'm gonna pass.

2. Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

Do you have the time to listen to me whine about nothing and everything all at once?  I am one of those melodramatic fools; neurotic to the bone, no doubt about it.

3. Now how about a movie quote?

When someone asks  you, if you're a god, you.  Say.  YES.

4. Video game quote?

Snow keeps falling, softly covering up everything in this world.  Our mistakes.  Our defilement.  If only these things could be covered up so easily.  What have we been doing, been pursuing, these past 500 years.

5. Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

Man I need more info than that.  I ain't going out and buying a bunch of shit for this, gotta know what you got in the house.

6. How about a dessert?

Mmmmm.  I dunno, don't usually eat it left to my own devices.  Tell me what you want and I'll spice it up.  Actually...
02:08] <CmdrKing> Hey VSM.  What do you want for dessert?
[02:11] <Aino> Tiramisu made the correct way, with Rum

Research tells me the 'correct' way to make it is with marasala wine, so we've spiced it some already.  we'll want to double down on the coffee methinks, so we'll be adding Kahlua to our syrup after it's been coffee flavored.  mmmm.  Actually, hold up, we reduce the marscapone in the cream and add in pumpkin.  Get some nutmeg, allspice, and ginger in the lady fingers.   Pumpkin Pie Tiramisu.  Internet in fact tells me this is a thing!  They're also dirty cheaters that use packaged lady's fingers.  Fuckers.
I have never made this but if it ever comes up remind me, I'll totally do it.  Despite this being a rather bastardly order you jerk.

7. In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

That's way too hard.  So here's what I made for dinner tonight.  Learned this pan cream sauce recipe year or so ago, so need to mix it up.
- 3-4 oz spiral noodles, prepared al dente
- 2-3 oz chicken, cubed and seasoned
- 1 pat butter
- 1 tsp chopped garlic
- 4 oz white wine (today's offering is a sweet white, which drank straight retained an amazing amount of grape flavor and comes recommended.  Michigan Niagra from St. Julians)
- 4 oz heavy cream
- ~3 oz 4 cheese mexican blend (you can sub cheddar here, you get the idea)

I'm not sure if I've ever posted this preparation, it makes way more sense as an actual demonstration.  Anyway, melt the butter and add garlic.  Once you get a bit of sizzle, add chicken and cook until the surface is fully browned (a little pink inside is okay, there's a lot of cooking left.)  Add wine, and reduce around half.  Add the pasta, and reduce again until wine is mostly cooked off, then add the cream.  Cook until the sauce mostly adheres to the noodles, about three minutes, then add the cheese and immediately remove from heat.  Stir thoroughly and serve immediately.

8. You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

I think jsh won this one.

9. Confess attraction to someone surprising.

Mal Reynolds.  This isn't odd, Nathan Fillion is quite bangable.  But holy crap, you can see him in other stuff and he's, y'know, this good looking dude in a sort of early Harrison Ford way.  But holy SHIT something about him AS Mal raises him like three points.  I've never totally worked out how the character is so much hotter than the actor, but, DAMN.

10. Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

FLCL.  Like, okay, yes, it's exceptionally well-animated.  But what else does this damn show have going for it?  It's madcap, but not really in an entertaining way: the lead girl just dicks over everyone repeated and not terribly entertainingly with no particular comeuppance.  It's not really funny.  There's not really any good character material.  Oh no this shy bitchy girl wants to burn everything, amazing.  So we're... like, watching some poor 12 year old pop puberty boners for two hours and... that's... one of the best anime ever... I guess?  Seriously, nothing about this show entertained me in the slightest until epsidoe 5.  of 6.  And that was just the awful dad becoming so awful it got funny again.  NAZI DAD WILL HUNT YOU IN THE PARK.  The height of humor (in this show).

1. What are some of your favorite songs of all time?
I'm super behind on music because of grad school. I'm a sucker for whatever genre the Hotline Miami soundtracks are but don't know if any are among my favorite songs.

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On [this album is my favorite of all time]
Merry Clayton - Gimme Shelter
St Vincent - Cruel
Aimee Mann - Labrador
Janelle Monae - Oh Maker
LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean
The Fountain - Death is the Road to Awe
Shadow of the Colossus - Despair Filled Farewell
Icewind Dale 2 - Skeleton of a Town
Sigur Ros - Stormur, Hoppipolla, Inni mer syngur vitleysingur
Shovel Knight - Strike the Earth! Plains of Passage (this may be the only standout track on the game but it is so fucking good)
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle

2. Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.
"I'm out for presidents to represent me, I'm out for dead presidents to represent me."

3. Now how about a movie quote?
"Your knowledge of scientific biological transmogrification is only outmatched by your zest for kung-fu treachery!"
"Do kung-fu when he wants to, have sex when he please..."

4. Video game quote?
"Blame yourself or God."

I say this in real life.

5. Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink
Belgian beer, almost any.

6. How about a dessert?
Bread pudding, I am unable to avoid ordering this.

7. In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?
I'm pretty proud of my cooking abilities and can cook most Chinese dishes well but my comfort food is Malaysian curry since that's what my dad cooked growing up.

8. You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONFVIfrPQxc&feature=youtu.be&t=26

9. Confess attraction to someone surprising.
Eh. Annie Clark/St Vincent? Janelle Monae even though she is apparently an android? I like female singers.

10. Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details
I've found the Game of Thrones HBO show to be terminally boring, in part because up until now they've just been showing stuff from the books but now I think the story structure has gotten cheap and manipulative to the point where I don't care anymore, and I also think that's partly due to an oversaturation of people talking it to death recently. I haven't read the books in years, so maybe my reaction would have changed as I've grown but my attachment to the story is quickly fading.

Also Jennifer Lawrence. She's, like, okay, but I don't find her to be an especially great actress and I don't like her public persona.

Pretty much anything by Ryuji Sasai (FFMQ, Treasure of the Rudras, that stuff)

Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

Hitomi ni tijoite, inoru you ni, FIRE FIRE FIRE!! FIRE!! IMAAAAAAAAAAA INOCHI WO MOYASU NO!

I close my eyes as if praying FIRE (FIRE) FIRE (FIRE)  Now my life will burn brightly!

Now how about a movie quote?

"I love the Power Glove. It's so bad."

Video game quote?

"Feel the power of the science! Here's the plan and don't forget it."

Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

Sprite and strawberries blended together with some ice

How about a dessert?

French toast I suppose, it's the only dessert I know how to make that isn't coke floats.

In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

I make better burgers than anyone you know.

You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

Confess attraction to someone surprising.

I think Amy Pohler is quite attractive.

Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

Having kids. I literally do not understand that, I'm guessing because I'm gay? I have no idea. I don't understand the desire at all.

Trails in the Sky - Silver Will
NieR - Anything
Sukima Switch - Kanade
Eric Clapton - Change the World

they're all in Japanese

Nothing that particularly feels worth sharing..

I suck at quotes.

Bailey's, vodka, milk, and coke. It tastes like a birthday cake.

Bailey's vodka, milk, and coke. What.

Bailey's, vodka, milk, and you get the idea.

Guile's theme. Alternately... the Pokemon theme.

Would anyone be surprised if I attracted to something?

Plenty of things that I don't like but I understand where the love comes from... And the things that I just -don't- get tend to be stuff that the DL already collectively hates, like religious zealotry and First Person Shooters.

Enough people have probably posted where I can take a turn.

Well, that's my list. Sorry even I couldn't answer all of my questions. Quotes apparently don't stick with me. I worked on this for hours, on and off.

BIG OL' EDIT
The pasta and sauce part of my dish is ambitious. Right now I make a good Cajun chicken that I want to turn INTO a pasta dish. As is, you're probably better off adding Asparagus or something and serving as-is.

    Songs?  Blanking, come back later

   Song lyric? ...

    Movie quote? ...

    Video game quote?  ...whatever

drink?  Witch's tea - ordinary tea with lots of sugar to gum up digestion and absorb nutrients

    dessert?  Fresh pineapple

main dish?  a chicken pasta that's based off some takeout I had once and liked enough to replicate

wrestler ring-music?  Love-Colored Master Spark  (Mess around with people's heads.)

Confess attraction to someone surprising.  None of my attractions are surprising.

Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details
  - How about entitlement mindset?  "They should (insert whatever one chooses to whine about) because I want it this way." (often unsaid yet implied)  When you get your own planet/universe, you can arrange things however you want.  On this one you're a guest.

1    What are some of your favorite songs of all time?

Apocalyptica - Hope vol. 2
Arcade Fire - Intervention
Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy
David Bowie - Heathen (The Rays)
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence
Peter Gabriel - More Than This
Yuki Kajiura - Canta Per Me
King Crimson - Fracture
Nier OST - Shadowlord
The Protomen - Light Up the Night
Queen - The Show Must Go On
Rush - Losing It

I couldn't even limit myself to ten

2   Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

"Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves." Rush, Witch Hunt

alternately: "Nothing he's got, he really needs--TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY SCHIZOID MAAAAAN"

3    Now how about a movie quote?

"Well damn you, you're taking my encyclopedias." -Royal Tenenbaum. This line regularly occurs to me when grappling with life's myriad minor inconveniences. Alternately, "They'll never catch me, 'cause I'm fuckin' innocent." I'm pretty sure I say this every time I run away from enemies in a game.

4    Video game quote?

Lenneth, about your performance...IT IS MAGNIFICENT

5    Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

The most exciting thing I drink is lemonade. You're asking someone who's never had alcohol in his life, yeah?

6    How about a dessert?

Mint chip ice cream cake.

7    In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

Milk on cereal.

8    You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

Gourry stole my immediate answer (for basically the same reason). That bastard.

9    Confess attraction to someone surprising.

This is difficult to answer, because being famous seems to be anathema to me actually finding someone attractive. Maude Lebowski? I like that hairstyle on women.

10    Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

Sand's overrated. It's just tiny rocks. Nah, serious answer: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Pointless timesink that tries to sub in being over the top ridiculous all the time for actual style (I don't care about mecha in general, but I found the mech designs here to be severely ugly). If nothing else, it confirmed the general rule that the most hyped animes usually turn out to have nothing to offer me (see also: Eva, and to a lesser extent Madoka).

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt2
Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag
Flogging Molly - With a Wonder and a Wild Desire
Funkadelic Parliament - Brain Maggots

Kendrick Lamar - King Kunta
LCD Soundsystem -  Home (Basically all of their songs, but to pick 1)
Of Montreal - Party's Crashing Us
Of Montreal - Grolandic Edit (Basically all of their songs, but to pick 2)
The Protomen - The Hounds (The villain song is always the best song of the musical. Fact)
The Protomen - The Will of One
EDIT: Balance and Ruin - The Impresario (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xFhULStbkQ)

OK that's the last one promise

Yeah I could go on. I could barely limit myself to one song per album.

2   Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

"What kind of man builds a machine to kill a girl?
No he did not use his hands. Like a smart man, he used a tool.
But just the same, can you question who's to blame?"
"What was her name?"
"It doesn't matter. Now, listen."

So much character in one goddamn stanza.

3    Now how about a movie quote?

Not a quote, but when Mad Max comes back to the war machine covered in blood without saying a word after murdering a bunch of fuckers off screen. So. Fucking. Good.

4    Video game quote?

EDIT: Warning: Dog Marriage.

5    Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

Long Island Iced Tea, strong.

6    How about a dessert?

Long Island Iced Tea, not so strong.

7    In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

I make a really killer batch of garlic mashed potatoes. It is my go-to potluck dish for sure.

8    You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

Flogging Molly - Seven Deadly Sins

9    Confess attraction to someone surprising.

Yeah I can't imagine any of my attractions would be surprising to anyone here.

10    Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

Yeah I can't imagine any of my loathings would be surprising to anyone here. I do like that you added this question specifically so you could vent about hating Star Wars, though.

There's some great songs on your list Zenny. I probably should have stuck an Arcade Fire and and of Montreal song on mine as well (probably Wake Up and Enemy Gene respectively). Q.U.E.E.N. by Janelle Monae is also glorious and I am sad I forgot it too. I will say to Gourry that being attracted to Janelle Monae isn't part of the natural order of the world, though.

I neglected to add janelle Monae. I am a sadness. Admittedly though I'm pretty sure I've loved everything she is produced I can't for the life of me recall one of her songs by heart. I need to remedy this.

Also, speaking of, add Of Montreal - Crazy Girl (feat. Janelle Monae) into that. Both versions are great but this one features Janelle Monae so is slightly better.

Since multiple people have commented on it, I don't think an attraction to Janelle Monae is really that weird. It's not really sexual, but she has a great smile, I like her eyes, and she has a confidence and sense of style that I really appreciate, plus she's an amazing performer. Her live show was one of the best concert experiences I've ever been to because she's really high energy and her voice somehow sounded better in person.

After being up for 50 hours, I finally remembered the Game quote I initially wanted to post, as well as the movie quote I was looking for.

Game Quote:
"And so the wheel of fire mills another soul. Entropy wins. Entropy always wins."

(I say this all the time in thane-voice. Usually as a sarcastic response. For instance, if my roommate complains that he forgot about his cereal and now it's all stale.)

What are some of your favorite songs of all time?
- Hard to say.  My preferred songs to listen to often change on a whim.

Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.
<Translated>"Grinning as he tosses the dice, he rigs the game, cheating without any qualms.  And people worship that person as God.  Ahh, how comical is that?"

Now how about a movie quote?
No real movie quotes come to mind.

    Video game quote?
"Furthermore, once a "god" has been observed, it can no longer continue to exist as a "god" and becomes nothing more than a "thing"."

Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink
Have a Guinness.

    How about a dessert?
Ooh, ooh.  Okay, I can do this one.  Homemade New York style cheesecake.

In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?
Aforementioned cheesecake.  Also chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, chorizo breakfast scramble, taco beef and cheese omelettes, would say lasagna but I didn't make the meat sauce for it, just the cheese mixture and handled the assembly.

You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?
That would assume I'd ever stop being a jobber long enough to earn ring music.

    Confess attraction to someone surprising.
I've been finding more people physically attractive now that I've gone back to school.  I'm not sure if it's just that more people there suit my preferences or my standards have slipped.  If it's the latter, I find it...worrying.  Thankfully, I can remind myself that the true purpose of relationships is to generate a proper subplot.  Appearance alone cannot cause narrative alterations.

Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details
American football.  Truthfully, I can say this for team sports in general, but american football is the one that stands out largely because it's the most hyped up.  Once you take the focus off of 1v1, the contest doesn't mean as much to me, and that's not getting into how annoying I find the very loud national obsession with it.  It's just a bunch of guys in padding and helmets constantly running into each other while a ball moves around the field.  I'll never see what's so exciting about it, nevermind what about it drives one of the most obnoxious fandoms I have seen (Only that unlike what is frequently put down, society legitimizes this one)

What does the acronym MOBA even stand for?

10. Let's Plays. I can never make it more than 5 minutes into a video one.

I prefer screenshot myself, because I'm more of a reading than a watching person. Having spent probably too much time on LPs, generally I find the ones I enjoy are for one of two reasons: A) watching someone suffer through a bad game I'd rather not play myself (this is just the MST3K effect); B) seeing someone with an encyclopedic knowledge of a game I'm already familiar with take it apart to such an extent that I actually learn something I didn't already know about it mechanically (I feel this should require no justification in a DL context).

I always wondered why MOBAs were named after their chat feature instead of their gameplay.

AS FOR LET'S PLAYS:

I'll read a screen shot let's play for a game where the story fascinates me but I loathe the gameplay. (Or... can't play the game ever and want to see the story.)
I also used to read the succession games until they became too self-referential and fan-wanky. Every single succession game I've signed up for has ended before it got to me.

1-See, I have a bunch of songs I love but when asked for "my favorites" my mind just freezes and I can think of nothing.
2-"You've got to climb the statue of the demon to get closer to God"
3-"I'm a Catholic whore, currently enjoying congress out of wedlock with my black Jewish boyfriend who works at a military abortion clinic. So hail Satan, and have a lovely day, madam."
4-"Pick a god and pray."
5-Iced coffee with Irish cream.
6-Blueberry cream pie.
7-I've learned how to make many things over the years, but my Portuguese Chicken is still probably my best. A spicy chicken stew with chorizo and tomato sauce.
8-Steel Beowulf
9-I can't remember who it was, but awhile back I remember thinking that some character from a game was pretty hot despite the fact that he had a beard. Facial hair of any sort is usually an instant turn off for me. Unfortunately I cannot remember who it was or what game. *shrugs*
10-Cars. Like, I appreciate their function, going from point A to point B in a short amount of time is pretty great. But people who get all into the aesthetics and excited over cars just leave me staring blankly. Especially since I grew up in rural NC and was thus expected to care about cars/trucks/etc or I wasn't "a man." I just didn't get it. Still don't. And people seem utterly baffled by my bafflement, as if not caring about cars is just as incomprehensible of an alien mindset to them as caring about them is to me.
10.2-Also, while I'm thinking about music, Nirvana and Metallica. Both big name bands that people tend to hold up as amazing...and I think they both just have a couple good songs and are otherwise pretty garbage.

1.  John Williams stuff, Shostakovich symphonies, game and anime music way too embarrassing to list in the sea of other people's traditionally lyrical answers.
2.  "At the end of days, at the end of time, when the sun burns out, will any of this matter?  Who will be there to remember who we were?  Who will be there to know that any of this had meaning for us?"
3. Aliens, Ghostbusters, and The Fifth Element have way too many good quotable lines.  For personal impact, though... "Oota-goota, Solo?"  That line had subtitles!  In a movie!  For aliens!  People can be different, and speak different languages, and that's okay?!  That was a big mental takeaway for Young Me.
4. "'Blame yourself or God."  And a million others.
5. Some sickly sweet iced lemonade-based fruit concoction.
6. Some sickly sweet ice cream concoction.  Cupcakes may be involved.
7. Well, ice cream concoctions are just throwing a few things together so I doubt that counts... tastiest to me, or tastiest to other people?  Broiled chicken, pasta and vegetables?  BLTs?
8.  Right now, Megalovania.  Next week, maybe something different?
9.  Would anyone be surprised...?
10.  I bet you folks know them all already.

  • You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of
  • You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger

1 - I straight up do not like the horror genre. No idea what of the movies I do like would be considered horror enough to count.

2 - I'm not sure what the difference is.

3 - That whenever Jenna goes somewhere without me she'll get into some horrible accident that I somehow could have prevented. Doubly so when she's going somewhere to pick something up for me(or going home after dropping me off somewhere) because it feels like she wouldn't have been there at ALL if it weren't for me. And triply so whenever she's late getting back from anything(especially somewhere she only went because of me). This makes days when she's late getting home from work...stressful. This is irrational because, well, there's jack all I could do to prevent things like car accidents from the passenger seat, and Jenna is a very safe driver.

4 - I don't really "know" people outside the DL anymore, other than Jenna and Kier and like a couple others. And irrational fears isn't something that comes up in conversation.

5 - Freaks me out? No. Annoys the shit out of me? Plenty.

6 - Probably the Cerberus. It's just doing it's freaking job making sure dead things don't go back to the land of the living. That's, like, a GOOD thing. So it shouldn't get a bad rep as a 'monster'. Close second goes to the minotaur. Sure it was a horrible monster, but it WAS kinda thrown into a labyrinth from birth and basically raised to be a monster. Seems more like the victim than a monster to me.

7 - Demons. If you're gonna go pure evil, go big. No redeeming qualities that aren't tricks or traps, these fuckers are basically Evil Elementals. Obv there are settings with demons that aren't pure evil(I've even run games in some!) but that goes for anything. Unseelie/Evil Fae get second place. Those fuckers are terrifying when done right.

8 - Not...quite sure what this is asking for? As a DnD nerd I'll just use creature type to answer. I randomly like Magical Beasts, since I can develop an ecology for them as a GM. Things like Outsiders/Fae/Abberations don't always need something like that, they can just kinda exist without needing to fit into anywhere, which as a GM bores me. Magical Beasts can be intelligent or not, have a broad range of  strengths, powers and weaknesses, and be as animal-like or civilized as I care to make them.

9 - Least worst? That the ghost is actually a bro and is "haunting" me to be a guardian of sorts. Possibly involving cool ghost themed superpowers at some point.

10 - If being bro-ghost who tries to help someone out and make their life better/safer/etc is an option, either my sister or Kier. If it has to be some kind of malicious or mischievous haunting, I'll just either head into the light or hang around some aspiring author to read over his shoulder or something.

6.  All of them.
7.  Real humans.

9.  Now I definitely don't understand.  I have a chill friend who knows stuff?  We, like, quietly win the James Randi challenge and get enough money for a cool comfortable life?

1. Alien!

2. Memento!

3. Microwave radiation!  It doesn't leak from microwaves and it's not carcinogenic anyway (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven#Direct_microwave_exposure) but I won't pull the door open to interrupt the microwave while it's running, even though that automatically shuts it off.  I'll hit the button to stop it and open it then, even though this wastes a second and makes absolutely no difference.  Some part of me thinks it's safer.

6. The minotaur (http://ddm.ace.ed.ac.uk/project-files/Asterion/story.html)

1. What are some of your favorite songs of all time?

The entire album of "Scenes From A Memory" by Dream Theater.  I'm a sucker for concept albums in general.  For an individual song though... I don't think I can really narrow it down.  Touhou music, and remixes thereof, in general would place very high here.  If it gives any insight, the music I've bothered to put on my phone are the soundtracks to every Touhou game except Ten Desires, Persona 3/4, FE: Awakening, Etrian Odyssey 4, the aforementioned Dream Theater album (plus one more of theirs, Octavarium), and then some other random shit like a couple Super Robot Wars OSTs.  See below.

2. Gimme a song lyric that has stuck with you.

Can't think of any really off the top of my head.

3. Now how about a movie quote?

I don't watch enough movies in general to really quote them, heh.

4. Video game quote?

That I can do.  "Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!"  "What is a man?  A miserable little pile of secrets.  But enough talk, have at you!"

5. Screw pop culture for a second. Make me a drink

Okay, have a screwdriver.

6. How about a dessert?

My cooking skill is minimal, but I think I could manage a batch of cookies.  Snickerdoodles, perhaps.

7. In general, what's the tastiest thing you can personally cook, bake, or otherwise prepare?

Bacon.

8. You are now a pro-wrestler. What is your ring-music?

9. Confess attraction to someone surprising.

I would consider going gay for Johnny Depp.  On the feminine side of things... I can't really think of anything "surprising" there.

10. Hate on something universally loved that you just don't -get- man. Add details

MOBAs in general.  I have tried a few and have never found one that is not completely and utterly ruined by how god-awful its community is.  Also, honorable mention to video LPs.  I enjoy screenshot/narrative LPs but can't stand video ones.

And for the second set...

1. What is your favorite horror film
2. Now For your favorite thriller. Cue endless arguments about the difference!

As I mentioned, I don't watch many movies... and horror is my least favorite movie genre in general, so I'm really helpless here.  That said, adaptations of Stephen King books tend to be pretty good.

3. What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of

Lightning, and not the FF13 character :|

4. How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.

Crickets.

5. Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.

Not really.  Death metal used to, like over 10 years ago.

6. What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?
7. What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)
8. What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc

I'm not sure how to answer these.

9. You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of

That the ghost is a harmless practical joker.

10. You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger

Uhhhhh I really don't know here.  It would depend on the effects of my haunting I guess?

I actually find that very relaxing, but I've also been known to go to sleep to audio loops of TNG engine noise.

1.    What is your favorite horror film

I don't typically enjoy horror films, but I should give credit to the John Carpenter version of The Thing for being one of the more impressive examples of the genre. I do not think I actually want to watch it again, but it's an outstanding representative of its type.

2.    Now For your favorite thriller. Cue endless arguments about the difference!

Largely ditto the above, so this time I'll throw a nod to The Changeling. George C. Scott ghost movie circa 1980, nice slow burn that focuses very effectively on the psychological side of a haunting.

3.    What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of

Needles.

4.    How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.

Answering this question would require me to like know anybody.

5.    Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.

Christian rock.

6.    What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?

Medusa.

7.    What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)

If so inclined, #e could assuredly leverage as blackmail material the Cid's notorious appreciation for demon chicks.

8.    What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc

Mimics!

9.    You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of

I would guess a Sixth Sense setup where you can actually help send them?

10    You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger

I dunno, probably some world leader just to get a front row seat to international politics.

Taken

What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of
Getting robbed. I don't think it's irrational but other people think I worry about it too much

How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.
Dogs. For context, I communicate with a lot of Indian people, who are largely afraid of dogs

Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.
The Shaggs. It's more like out of horror for how the kids' parents treated them, but still. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQqK1CjE9bA

What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?
Gorgons. Love their design, which makes them threatening even if they aren't bloothirsty

What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)
Vengeful spirits like poltergeists or something I guess

What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc
Mimics. I love familiars/daemons but don't really consider them ridiculous

You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of
Being haunted by Louis CK I guess. At least I'd get some laughs out of the deal

You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger

What is your favorite horror film?
I generally am not a big fan of horror, even the ones that I was supposed to like but don't (It Follows, Babadook). If I can stretch the definition I will say Amore or Away from Her.

Now For your favorite thriller. Cue endless arguments about the difference!
Les Diabolique? Wages of Fear is also good.

What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of?
I was attacked by dogs at a fairly young age. I'm not afraid of them anymore, but I occasionally flinch when I see certain kinds, but I don't think that counts as irrational.

How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.
I had a girlfriend who was terrified of balloons popping.

Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.
Nope. (damn Christian rock is a good answer)

What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?
I like bridgetrolls that ask riddles for some reason. They don't make much sense. They want money but are fine not getting paid if you know some dumb riddle? Why does the troll give a shit about what some dude knows?

What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)
san francisco tech libertarians

What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc
damn cid mimics is also a good answer.

You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of
One who brings me groceries and takeout when I'm feeling really lazy and also does my laundry and drives me to work. I basically want a drone or a butler ghost.

You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger

New October Questions are Sppoooooooky

Cabin in the Woods. Could argue it's more of a deconstruction than a 'true' horror film, but fuck it, it is literally the only one with any kind of non-visual merit.

I like a lot of thrillers, but can't be bothered to remember which one is best and unequivocally fits into the "thriller" category.

Trypophobia-inducing images. Goddamn tiny holes, could be full of -anything-. And none of it good.

Non-biting/stinging insects. Yeah, I can understand creepy-crawlies being startling, but once an insect or arachnid has been identified as harmless, it always seems dumb to continue on being freaked out/screaming over a single bug.

Calliope music. In any setting, in any song. I can even trace it back to being a kid having a night terror once while the radio was on and that one Gorillaz song just happened to be playing on the real-life radio as the backdrop to said night terror. I ended up actively shutting off any radio/music playing device for months after that whenever that song would play. Nowadays I kind of like the song, but precisely -because- it evokes a little bit of creepiness, and calliope music is still the fastest way to freak me out whenever horror movies are choosing their BGMs.

Werewolves. Like puppies, but contagious!

Saccharine-sweet stepford-wives style body snatchers

Space cats.

Doting grandmother ghost who can still bake you cookies. And really, what -else- is she going to do?

I can think of a few former bosses who could use endless torment and pranks and reminders to stop treating their employees like shit.

In a hurry, will fill in some later when less rushed.

HORROR:  Yuck, won't voluntarily watch or suggest anything horror.  Pass

Thriller: ... can't remember the last one I've seen

Irrational fear: People will hate on me solely because I do network marketing.  (There are a very small number who do and I'm still kicking.)

Someone else's fear: Earthworms and non-venomous spiders

Freaky music: The Mega Man Rocks (fangame) soundtrack.  All of it.

"they're not so evil" monster?  ...

"that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)  Ultros

ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc:  Rabites for the moment  Or Cactuars

 Haunted: Yuyuko Saigyouji

Haunting: Just one?  Others have made some likeable suggestions.  Would be satisfying to haunt some religious extremists.

I meant specific people for the ghost questions.

But my interest in other people has always been more general than specific. You can see the bind I'm in?

What is your favorite horror film
Not a big horror fan.

Now For your favorite thriller. Cue endless arguments about the difference!
Given that I don't know horror very well, I wouldn't really be able to identify the difference.

What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of
Social activity.  Largely since I keep fearing I'll once again get singled out for tormenting, despite rationally knowing this will not be the case.

How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.
Greys.

Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.
Going to have to agree with Cid here and say "Christian Rock".  Part of it's been being sent to an evangelical school and subject to their brand of music, and it's all...saran-wrapped versions of the original genre that then is also pretty much a transplant of their other musical choices.  Kind of disturbing that the evangelical community only finds music acceptable if it has a set of homogenized lyrics to it when I think about it.  Especially with the knowledge that in hindsight, I was subject to attempted brainwashing.

What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?
Do dragons count?  If so, dragons.

What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)
REAL HUMANS--okay, okay.  I suppose the first I can identify from the top of my head have to be the Shadows from DMC1.

What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc
Kobolds in general.  I just imagine them as these yippy short-tempered, alternating between clever and derpy dog-lizard guys.  Kind of ridiculous, kind of amusing. somewhat endearing I guess.

You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of
- A scenario that leads to wacky rom-com hijinks in some capacity.

You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger
- Election advertisement committees.  I will terrorize them all into never producing another election ad again.

1. Dawn of the Dead remake? I donno. I don't like horror films a ton, too violent.

2. Inception? Let's go with Inception.

3. Thunder storms. Don't like being outside at all during them.

4. Needles. (Not calling out the Ciddy here, just never been afraid of them and find the response silly)

5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST2H8FWDvEA The only really good part of those films. Just a fantastic mood piece.

6.  Donno.

7. Nicodemus and the Knights of the Blackened Denarius. Norman Daniels was a lot of fun as well.

8.  Zombies and Vampires are both staples for a reason.

9.  A ghost that could be exorcised.

: Alien. Glad I'm far from alone on this one.
: Se7en. The original inspiration to doing another set of questions was a discussion of this film.
: Snipers. I'm irrationally terrified of being shot in the head, despite no one I hang out with owning firearms, and being statistically unlikely to be shot. Before I had anxiety medication, I used to be freaked out by cats. They could be on the ground, and they'd be nice, but if a cat got on me, it was just a fleshy bag of loose bones that felt weird and it needed to be OFF of me, like, RIGHT NOW.
: My roommate is afraid of white noise. And cardboard. I am not kidding.

: Original Shadowgate OST freaks me out to THIS DAY. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL46BF8396C28B382F
: I think the Cookie Monster is probably not secretly a serial killer.
Beastmaster Xellos.
: I always had a softspot for oozes. Not like, the Japanese style slimes, where they have a big friendly face. No. Just classics like "Ochre Jelly" or "Grey Ooze". No faces or frills. Just a pile of slime. TERRIFYING SLIME. Major props for the king of them all, the Gelatinous Cube. Just a roaming, perfectly transparent cube of murder Jell-O, complete with goodies inside, like dead adventurers, chimera bones, gold coins, or whatever.

: If haunting doesn't have to be scary, I wouldn't mind having some of my old dogs back. If haunting DOES have to be scary, maybe someone like Carl Sagan or the like. A guy who would spend most of his time trying desperately to prove that he doesn't exist.
: Russel Brand. After a lot of thought, I think this is objectively the correct answer. 1)He's probably used to seeing weird shit, so won't question that you're there too hard, and would largely be chill with it. 2)He probably gets up to some really crazy shit, and hey, if you're gonna be a ghost, may as well have fun.

What is your favorite horror film
Don't do favorite media.

Now For your favorite thriller. Cue endless arguments about the difference!
Still don't do favorite media.

What is the most ridiculous or irrational thing you, personally, are afraid of
Vents/air ducts. I blame watching an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, when I was 8.

How about the most ridiculous thing someone else that you know is afraid of. No DL Callouts.
Cotton balls. High school friend, who now has toured the world and hunted lionfish, is viscerally terrified of cotton balls.

Is there any music that legitimately kind of freaks you out? Post samples.
Same category as "favorite media," but the Hitchcockian subtle wrongness = unease thing works well with music, too. So: subtle, dischordant strings.

What is your favorite "they're not so evil" monster?
Androids. They don't have to be calculating, cold, and pragmatically anti-human.

What is your favorite "that is definitely evil" monster. (No real humans)
The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth.

What is your favorite ridiculous monster TYPE? Like myth, D&D, random encounters, etc
Flail snails.

You are permanently "haunted" by someone's ghost. What is the least worst scenario you can think of
Someone who can be quiet. Don't really care who so long as the haunting does not require my attention.

You have tragically died and get to permanently haunt anyone of your choosing. Go get 'em, tiger
I cannot imagine a more hellacious scenario than being tied to someone as a voyeur and trying to make them miseable. But then, I'm anti-social.

Did you purposefully look for someone with even more neuroses than yourself?

No, but I'm pretty sure my cousin/her boyfriend did. It would explain a lot.

You are scared of cardboard and soft noises?  I know someone that will be great for you.  He even explains jokes to you twice when not getting the joke was another joke.
