LISA The painful RPG

It is despicable and horrifying and wastes your time and frequently gives the player the middle finger and I think I may have really enjoyed it.

LISA is an 8 hours game with a ton of characters each with a ton of skills. Here is how each one of them fares at the end of the game.

XP
I gave 109000 xp to every character, because a Terry used from the beginning to the end of the game had exactly that much.
Brad gets slightly more because he participates in every fight.
Area 3 characters (Crisp, Buffalo, Sonny, Shocklord) get less because they join late in the game and underleveled.

Stats
HP, ATK, DEF, SATK, SDEF are straightforward stats. I don’t know which attacks are physical and which are magical. Sorry dudes.
I also have no idea what LUCK does guys.

Characters either have SP or TP.
The vast majority of people have SP, which are are magic points that work like MP in every other RPG.
Only 5 characters have TP. TP are like IP in Lufia 2. Each character starts every fight with X TPs, X being a random number between 0 and their level. Any attack received raises TP by a little. Any regular attack done by the character also raises TP by 10, while guarding raises TP by 5. TP is reset after every battle. Max TP is always equal to 100.

There are three elements that I know of: Fire, Water, and animal. Fire deals double damage to oiled enemies, water dissipates Oil and the burning status.

Status
Status effects are a big part of LISA’s gameplay. Negative status can work on every enemy in the game, but some status attacks have a lower chance to work on bosses (Especially the turn wasting status attacks)
For status attacks that rely on SP, status and hit % were tested 10 times minimum per status attack. Only 3 times minimum for attacks that rely on TP, because seriously this stat topic took too long already.

The following status effects go away after roughly 2 rounds:
- Tripped: Turn loss
- Stun: Turn loss

The following status effects go away after roughly 3 rounds:
- Paralysis: Turn loss
- Scared: Turn loss.
- Sleep: Turn loss. Dispelled by taking damage
- Bleed: 2% max HP damage after every round
- Burn: 5% max HP damage after every round. Healed by water attacks.
- Stink: Lower chance to be targeted by enemy attacks. Pointless on an enemy?
- Hangover: Reduced stats

The following status effects go away after roughly 5 rounds:
- Poison: 10% max HP damage after every round
- Deep Poison: 4% max HP damage after every round (The only benefit over regular poison is that they stack)
- Pissed off: Randomly attacks either an enemy or an ally with a physical attack, always does a critical hit.
- Drunk: Reduces attack, among probably other things?
- Crying: Lowers accuracy
- Weird: Reduces defense and attack

Positive status effects also seem to go away after roughly 5 rounds:
- Cool: Regens HP
- Super Cool: Regens HP
- Wary: Increases defense
- Party up! : I think this raises all stats, most crucially accuracy

Brad, Dick, Queen, Buckets, Carp, Clint, Tiger Man are Joy addicts. Sometimes outside of battle they’ll get Joy cravings that will severely reduce their stats. This can be healed by spending turns in battle, resting in an inn or feeding them Joy. I haven’t considered addiction at all for the purpose of this stat topic.

Damage testing
I tested damage and status chance mostly on Garbage Island enemies, and Rando’s army at the end for Failure Brad. In general, there’s not a whole lot of variation in damage between different enemies anyway.
Damage was tested 2 times minimum because of random variance.

Equipment
I gave everybody their best weapons. There’s only one best uzi and one best bat, but there are only three uzi users and three bat users so I felt generous.
Armor, man, whatever. I gave characters the accessories they came with + storebought armor. Weak but I don’t think armor matters much anyway compared to HP.
I also gave characters whatever they come with. Usually this is only a flavor accessory; and this only really matters for Clint (who gets an Oiled Chest and Denim Jeans), Ajeet (Badass Belt Buckle), Shocklord (Denim Jeans), and Crisp (Karate Belt) But whatever these guys need help.

Physical attack w/ Sword of Liflamesummoning: 1.2674885e+89 damage, fire elemental. Fully heals HP after every attack. 50% chance to create a candy monster after killing an enemy. HP: 1.2674885e+89. Damage: 1.2674885e+88
Physical attack w/ Random sword: 2.8898739e+90 damage. Randomly changes your sprite and HP even if you've taken an Invulnerability Potion.

Every item is instant and doesn't use turn.
Potions share the same recovery time. For example if you use an invincibility potion, you have to wait 40 turns to use any other potion, but can use any scroll.
Scrolls share the same recovery time.

Fire Scroll: 30 fire damage. 12 rounds cooldown.
Acid Rain Scroll: 6 poison damage to everybody on the map. 12 rounds cooldown.
Earthquake Scroll: 12 earth damage to everybody on the map. 12 rounds cooldown.
Imp Elemental Scroll: Summons an imp, who protects the main character and fights until he dies. HP: 15. Damage: 5. Can't use after the beginning of a fight unless a Teleport potion is used first. 12 rounds cooldown.

Invulnerability potion: Makes You invincible. Lasts 12 rounds. 40 rounds cooldown.
Superman potion: Turns you into Superman. Lasts 12 rounds.
Teleport: Teleports back to the start of the battle arena. Lasts 12 rounds.

Seed: Creates a tree. 600 HPs.
Jelly: Puts a jelly bomb behind you. 95 damage. Cannot hit anything but you in game I believe.

Opinion: Item use is debatable but you have at least 5.9867453566876546e+24 potions of each kind, which is enough in my mind.

Discussion / Question
« on: March 10, 2011, 01:50:00 PM »
I'm not sure anyone will be able to answer that, but I might has well try.

I've been trying to help the videogame industry lately (I don't buy any used games anymore), but I was wondering: Does buying an unused videogame (from something like Amazon), three years after it was printed, help the developer? I have no idea how this all work.

General Chat / Trolls!
« on: March 07, 2011, 01:36:22 AM »
What if game developers hated you?

Around 15 years ago, the anime series Evangelion ended. It was about giant robots. In the last episodes the series drops the giant robot part and basically tells its viewers "Stop being emo and go outside", from what I heard.
As Evangelion was crazy successful and watching fans go insane is fun, many game developers were surely inspired. I've seen this kind of stuff in a lot of games lately, mostly in Cavia's games (I need more examples, guys):

Spoilers

Drakengard
You've finished that game, the ending was bittersweet, with the main character and an annoying sidekick being the only surviving main characters. You now have access to different paths to unlock other, presumably more uplifting, endings.
Second ending: Everyone dies. Third ending: Everyone dies. Fourth ending: Giant babies devour everything, time gets stopped, in short everyone dies. Fifth ending: You get teleported out of nowhere to modern day Tokyo, play -the most difficult rhytm game ever- and then everyone dies. That's it.

Metal Gear Solid 2
Back when it was released, that game had massive hype. Everybody wanted to play as the badass war veteran Solid Snake again. Except you play with him for two hours, then he gets captured and you're forced to play as Raiden, a green brat with a clingy girlfriend. This is like a Batman videogame, where Batman gets captured immediately and you spend the rest of the game as Robin.

Nier

This is Kaine: http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRknLHT5KKxZIOpWzOCFZHwnv6ggXAklfRSlum6T-eA70krO_RY&t=1
Kaine has impossible curves, almost no clothes and she follows you around. As a human male, you eventually get charmed during the course of the game. Unfortunately, you eventually realize that she's a hermaphrodite, or a man, or whatever, you don't even know but there's something wrong. Cavia made the videogame equivalent of waking up next to a tranny.

Chrono Cross

You bought this game because you liked Chrono Trigger. Well, the entire CT team got killed by in extremely anticlimatic ways. As a bonus, what they did during the entirety of CT only made things worse. WAIT! Developers nearly included Magus in the game! But they were too busy adding a mexican wrestler and a turnip instead.

Bullet Witch

The points you get when you win an Xbox achievement are always a multiple of 5; 5, 10, 15,20... This is done on purpose, it means you'll always have a nice round total gamer score.
Except with this game. There's a 99 points achievement you'll eventually get without even trying, and there's a 1 point achievement you can only get by finishing hard mode. Except it's too hard and you will never get it. You watch your gamer score: It's 23 474. You're annoyed.
This is a bigger deal than it sounds.

Divinity 2 Ego Draconis

The whole game you're led to believe that resurrecting Big Bad Guy's girlfriend will kill Big Bad Guy. Except it was a lie, Bad Guy's girlfriend traps you in a prison beyond time and space, end of game. (The expansion changed that, but it was released one year later)

I've always found developers trolling players absolutely hilarious, but it's often hard to tell whether it's intentional or not. Is XS3 trolling or are they serious?
