*Fly home to pick up car, which had extensive repairs done*

*Car immediately suffers a new, unrelated breakdown*

*Sigh* At least I've bitched so much at work about it that my boss believes me when I'm (AGAIN) stuck at my parents place due to car troubles.

You don't have car troubles.  You've got a psychological issue you express via automobile.

Was at Karaoke with my karate friends when my news app told me. Pretty sure 75% of the songs the foreigners among us sang thereafter were Bowie songs.

I feel weird mourning the loss of celebrities but this is pretty fuckin shitty.

this is a fucking bummer, and it's surprising because he just released Blackstar which by all accounts is great.

It's hard to believe he's really gone. Bowie was such an inspiration. You can tell how much he loved what he did, waiting until his album was released to check out.

I'm still convincing myself Bowie was a mortal human being. I feel like I should be complaining of a clerical error in the universe.

There's a lot of bowie that I'm unfamiliar with.

But the songs I've heard are good.

I might have to catch up.

At some point, we just forget our idols aren't any less mortal than we are. Though one particular mention devastated me the most, regarding Blackstar even: "we were so happy with the news that he was back we never realized he was saying goodbye". God.

I guess it helps that Blackstar is a great album, probably his most inspired release since the 70s. That closing track is something else in particular, especially once you know he was aware of his mortality. Better to burn out than fade away and all that.

I haven't listened to it yet, hard copy is en route via snail mail because this is how I roll, but you're setting a really high bar by saying "Better than Scary Monsters, Heathen, and The Next Day."

I've always thought Freddie Mercury recorded the most characteristic musical farewell humanly possible, but I suppose I'll see soon enough.

I have no opinion about the quality of his albums -that's subjective- I'm just saying it feels the most inspired and adventurous since low to me.

Alan Rickman has also passed away so it is a bad year to be a 69 year old British dude with an awesome voice. It also has been a bad year overall.

I think I have a good group of students to teach this semester. Only time can tell. I believe I explained well my boundaries for communication, including emailing.
