The Saigyou Ayakashi is in full bloom in Arkham.
« on: October 15, 2009, 04:31:12 AM »

Nobody ever figured out exactly what happened that night in Arkham.  All communication from the city ceased, and when the authorities came to investigate, all they found was a pile of motionless bodies heaped underneath the largest cherry tree any of them had ever seen.

It was already deep into May, but the weather in Gensokyo wasn't showing any signs of changing over from winter to spring.  If anything, the snowstorms were getting stronger, not milder, and the temperature recently seemed to be dropping.  The sky was perpetually covered in thick grey clouds that discharged more and more snow.

For some reason, perhaps related but perhaps not, the borders of Gensokyo were weakening in one specific area.  Several Youkai reported travelling through the barrier with ease to some place named "Arkham", but the weather was if anything even worse over there so they quickly returned.  Of course, people are always curious about new places, so despite warnings there was still traffic through the barrier to see the strangeness of the human world.

Then, suddenly, these travelers stopped returning.

Concerned, a group of Youkai went out together to try and find their missing friends.  Half a dozen left, and only one returned, mostly mad and babbling incoherently about grotesque monsters more powerful than the Youkai roaming in the outskirts of the town.  Normally, the barrier would have just been strengthened, but for one thing.  The Youkai had brought back a strangely familiar petal.  A cherry blossom, to be exact.  One that was well-known to some of Gensokyo's denizens.

The Saigyou Ayakashi was blooming again, and this time it was affecting the human world as well.

As the girls began their foray into the city, things seemed very quiet.  Too quiet...

DEATHLY STILL
Environment: Weather
Will checks in Arkham are made at a -1 penalty. Fight checks in Arkham are made at a +1 bonus. Monsters that move normally are stalkers.

A clue appears at Cold Spring Glen.  A Gate appears at Gardner's place, sucking up a clue and spawning a Dark Young and a Zombie.

Deadline is Friday at 10 PM EST.  Starting equipment is listed in the signup topic.

Cid, that mission doesn't require MAXIMUM sanity, just a point of current sanity.  You should be at 3/4.  Also, just a clarification on your power.  You aren't doubling Cirno's movement, you're giving her double yours, the same amount you get.

Newspaper Assignment (Task: Spend one turn each at Arkham Asylum, The Witch House, and Newspaper to gain $5 and 4 Clue Tokens)

Aya heads to The Witch House to pick up the clue and await an encounter, handing Shinki her Enchanted Blade and picking up an Axe from Komachi in passing.  She also exaust her one spare movement to read the Old Journal and through her powers of Reporting and stuff gets three clues.

[21:52] <Glen> Old Journal is a Lore -1 check
[21:52] <Yukari-sama> It changes the Stella ranking (basically like rank in Touhou, if you're familiar with it).

Arkham Encounters

El Cideon/Komachi
-------------------

"So, what's your story, friend?" A smiling man inquires about your adventures over a glass of gin. You tell him your story. If you spend 3 clue tokens, he introduces himself as Ryan Dean and asks to join you. Take his ally card if it is available. If not, he gives you some useful items instead. Gain 2 common items.

Ryan Dean is NOT available.

Gatewalker/Hong Meiling
-------------------------

You encounter a gentlemanly old man strolling down the street with a limp. He introduces himself as Squire Sawyer Whateley and gives you $2. "I don't mean to offend, but you look like you could use it."

Magetastic/Cirno
------------------

Pass a Luck (-1) [2] check to gain insight into a skill while studying the old books. Draw 1 Skill, but stay here next turn.

Glen Veil/Aya
---------------

The strange, rat-like creature known as Brown Jenkins leaps out of the darkness at you! Search the monster cup for a Rat-Thing. If you find 1, battle it with a -1 penalty to your combat checks. If you don't, Brown Jenkins grabs one of your items and runs. Lose 1 item of your choice.

Halbarad/Shinki
-----------------

Carefully stepping inside a mausoleum, you are horrified to hear the door slam shut behind you, locking you in with the corpses and coffins. All night you remain trapped, jumping at every soft scratching sound and low moan of the wind. Stay here next turn. In addition, you must pass a Will (-1) check or search the Madness deck for a Necrophobia card and take it.

AndrewRogue/Patchouli
-----------------------

You find a muscular, bored-looking man who challenges you to an arm wrestling match. Lose 2 stamina if you accept. If this does not knock you unconcscious, Sir William Brinton laughs and slaps your shoulder, offering to joing your investigation. Take his ally card. If it is not available, gain $5 instead.

Sir William Brinton IS available.

Komachi will not be taking an ally for the obvious reason that he's not available, and I don't have three clue tokens anyway. I assume the tokens would be needed for getting the items as well, so I guess nothing happens to me here?

Cirno is not lucky enough to find anything, and therefore loses interest and moves on without a new skill.

<Magetastic> Well, d6 for first half of check
<Yukari-sama> One of the effects is that every upkeep phase I spend in the graveyard does 1 sanity damage.
<Magetastic> d6
* Hatbot --> "Magetastic rolls d6 and gets 1."12 [d6=1]
<Magetastic> Ok, no matter what I'm failing that.
<Yakumo> Yeah, you'll take two damage total since you're stuck.  You still have three sanity even with Mythos Lore.

The young woman gasped as the handsome man slammed her arm roughly, smiling, not with the joy of victory, but rather the amusement of such a daring young woman accepting his challenge. She, however, frowned, the slightly pained expression tainting her otherwise placid countenance. "Good sir, good sir, how could you be so strong? I believe you have hurt me and, 'twere you a true gentleman, you might accompany me to the hospital so that I might be treated properly." She shook her head sadly. "Alas, I shant be able to read a book with my arm like this."

The man smiled and extended his arm, gently. "It would be my pleasure, young lady. My deepest apologies for your injury. It would be remiss of me not to offer my services to a lady in need... especially were it I who injured her in the first place."  Helping her stand, the man bowed and flourish slightly. "You may count on Sir William Brinton to aid you in these troubled times as an atonement for my most dire of crimes."

As the girls started their investigations, they began hearing whispers.  Strange, frightening rumors of a massive power building up somewhere in the city...

Nightmare Pool
Environment: Rumor

When this card enters play, place 3 Sanity tokens per player on it. Any player may pay Sanity while in the Uptown streets during the Arkham Encounters Phase to remove Sanity tokens from this card on a one-for-one basis.

Ongoing Effect: Place 1 Sanity token per player on this card at the end of every Mythos Phase (beginning the turn after it entered play).

Pass: If there are no Sanity tokens on this card, return it to the box. Each player draws 1 Common Item.

Fail: If there are 6 Sanity tokens per player on this card, return it to the box. Immeditately draw and resolve 3 more mythos cards, one after the other.

A Gate appears at Wizard's Hill, destroying a clue and spawning a Hound of Tindalos and a Shuggoth.  No clue appears.

Deadline is 10 PM EST Sunday

Just as a note, if you guys don't resolve this Mythos this turn, you're going to fail it.
