Nerf League: Week 3
« on: September 03, 2015, 05:20:54 AM »
2 Yunas.  2 Blues.  2 Much Action, 2 Much Chivalry, 2 much Dawn of SuperSouls all in Week 2 + 2 - (2/2).

After checking with Neph, he was okay with flash-upgrading T-260 to Godlike due to concerns she was misranked.  So...  there she is!  She gets to play in against...  roll roll roll...  Izanami.  If she wins, she gets to replace Izanami this week.  (if she loses to Izanami, then her subsequent matchup with Yuna is irrelevant and just for funsies.)

Sheesh, I can barely vote on anything in my own tourney...

Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1)
Similar to last week, except Ghaleon is slower than Divine Weapon but has a lot more damage and slightly more durability.  L2 form should still considerably outspeed with the fast moves, though.

Heavy

B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX) - Hey, Riou has an element Lulu can't block...  usually...
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2) - Stall game is go I presume, she doesn't need Reflect.
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT) - Orlandu goes first and breaks Rosa's bow.  Her damage is so beyond awful that she will run out of MP on Image tricks before killing, I suspect.  EDIT: Although, since we allow Edge storebought throwing weapons, I suppose you can argue that Rosa can buy a supply of cheaper backup bows since FF4 characters can equip-change in battle.  That...  might make things interesting, Berserk duration starts mattering then, since Berserk apparently improves speed so Orlandu can knock off the Images reasonably quickly and berserk'd basic attacks still force heals out of Rosa reasonably quickly.  Also Orlandu can attempt to nuke Rosa's MP on his first turn and hope Berserk misses to get a 2nd go at the MP nuke?  Will await further argument.

Light

Tiamat (FF1DoS) vs. Actually mute Crono (CT)
Tiamat's reign of terror continues, as Crono is hitting the wrong defensive stat here I think?
Prince (of the) Light Edge (FF4) vs. Super Trainee Amelia (FE8)
Well, Edge avoids counters and probably doubles, which is a good start...  leaning this way, I think even if Amelia avoids a round 1 double by starting with a Slim Lance, she's probably 3HKO'd so she'll just die turn 2 anyway.
Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT)
Can Siren constantly re-apply Stop, or does Marle have to hope to get an intervening turn after it wears off AND get lucky?  Especially if Yulie can throw down Protect first, Marle has some awful damage here (like 0.05 PCHP) that'll be completely undone whenever Stop wears off, but if she can extend the duration by constantly attacking it might work.  Probably not though.
Straight & Narrow Aika (SoA) vs. Busted Cloud (FF7)
While not a huge fan of limit scaling systems that make this too easy, sure, Meteor Swarm or Finishing Touch.
Selfish Clarissa (WAXF) vs. ElfChallenge Arnaud (WA4)
Shut Out -> Illusion -> lol.

Puny

Songstress Tear (TotA) vs. Milon1 (FF4)
Um.  Not sure if Tear's bad healing outpaces Milon damage here, and the nerf has crushed her ability to rush.  Looks sadly close, will await arguments.  (This might come down to ARPG speed interps.)  EDIT: Gonna tiebreak for the less headachey dueler here.
Grounded Ulki (FE10) vs. Quiet Qiryl (DQ4)
Surely.  EDIT: Qristo damage better than expected.

Godlike

Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier) - I'm...  Pretty sure Blue can frontload enough damage of the right type for this.

Heavy

B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX)
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2)

Middle

Lazy Blue (Saga Frontier) vs. Insomniac Ness (EB) - TimeEclipse.  If Ness equips the Crystal Charm, he can go for straight-up ID with Implosion.  Ness can't kill fast enough with what he has, and I'm pretty sure Blue can get something to make him immune to Hypnosis.
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB) - Less speed to kill with plus no immunity to ID.  Yeah, that'll go over well.

Light

Speedrun Jack (WAACF) vs. Diamond Mog (FF6) - Even without the Snow Muffler, I'm pretty sure that Jack is hitting the *wrong* defensive stat.
Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT) - Stopbow eventually works its magic again.

Puny

Ted (Suiko1) vs. Pacifist Riki (Saga Frontier) - Less of an infinite match than the previous week, and I'm pretty sure Ted doesn't 2HKO...  But the threat of a random crit might?
Songstress Tear (TotA) vs. Milon1 (FF4) - Surely.

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2) - Well this is kind of familiar at least.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4)
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX)
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - Actually she may have a shot here?  It takes some doing but Izanami has issues actually killing Yuna above half HP and she has more than enough wriggle room for Valefor OD to blast past.  e: Probably requires a few too many calls for it to be enough of a shot though, even with my low respect for Izanami or willingness to make calls in her favor.
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier) - Loki magic durability is pretty unspecial so yeah OD -> MWB spam wastes him

Heavy

Underdrive TimeLord (Saga Frontier) vs. Vincible Elc (AtL2)
Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT)
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX)
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT)
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3)

Middle

Chivalrous Alys Brangwin (PS4) vs. Healer Yuna (FFX) - ahahahaha
Lazy Blue (Saga Frontier) vs. Insomniac Ness (EB)
Bright Knight (BD) vs. Noa w/ bad makeup (LoL)
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB)

Light

Tiamat (FF1DoS) vs. Actually mute Crono (CT) - Hitting the wrong defensive stat indeed.
Prince (of the) Light Edge (FF4) vs. Super Trainee Amelia (FE8)
Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT)
Selfish Clarissa (WAXF) vs. ElfChallenge Arnaud (WA4) - have fun chasing shadows

Puny

Ted (Suiko1) vs. Pacifist Riki (Saga Frontier)
"I quit. -Whim" Lily (MK2) vs. SuperBlackAielWizard (FF1DoS) - surely temper spam beats out MK2 basic physicals
Grounded Ulki (FE10) vs. Quiet Qiryl (DQ4) - Kiryl's physical is an 11HKO to average, Ulki untransformed is 20.4 Spd (and so gets doubled as Kiryl has above average speed) and 0.76 pdur, thus dying in 8 Kiryl thwacks.  Since Kiryl is attacking in melee here, Ulki transforms on the start of his fifth turn, which means Kiryl is getting too many hits in, 6.3% effective evade while untransformed only goes so far.

Godlike

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2): I think this match comes down to "does Lost Progress remove timed spheres", and I am not sure the answer there. Leaning towards no, because IIRC there was no way to remove Reicher's timed spheres in-game (only Enna could do it?). Anyway, with timed spheres from Remote Blade, Reicher can pile on far too much damage and unquestionably kill Lady before her third turn, and I don't think two rounds of Lady offence + the death counter kill Reicher. Without the timed spheres, though, she might survive to turn 3, which would probably give her enough offence to win. Good fight!
Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1): This doesn't seem that close? Jade has over triple the durability and Ghaleon certainly doesn't have triple the damage. By my calculations, Ghaleon 10HKOs while Jade 6HKOs.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX): Faster, OHKO with Magnify.
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier): Blue can do about 2.2 PCHP damage if twinked for max offence, I think. Does Loki have that against magic? Yeah almost surely not.

Heavy

Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT): Rika is somewhat close to a 3-2, and somewhat close to a 2HKO. But she has neither, and Black Hole is turn 2.
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX): Doublecast Death does its thing.
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2): Straightforward win, Evans can't 2HKO and has no status, so even having dispel isn't enough.
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT): According to the FF4 BMG, Mini is hax here: it sets the target's ATK to 1, DEF to 0, and doubles the damage they receive on top of that, i.e. Cid doesn't break Rosa's defence and takes meaningful damage even from her unarmed attacks while mini'd. So he needs to block transformation... which leaves him open to confuse, which would give Rosa a way to get him to damage himself, even if he breaks her bow. His only hope is to avoid succumbing to status in the first place. Aegis Shield gives him a chance. Let's say it buys him a second turn. He can Dark Sword twice, probably his best bet. By my calculations the MP KO point for FFT is 324, and Rosa has 1.7x average MP, so it's unlikely two Dark Swords are enough here, although it would do MOST of the work... unless he blocks Mini, then his damage falls so that Rosa still has like a third of her MP left, which is probably enough to safely berserk him, put up blinks, and confuse Cid for the win. Good fight though, may tilt the other way if you respect MP damage a bit more than I do. EDIT: Orrrr we could all be overthinking this. Cid is faster, 2HKOs (and I don't see Blink working on swordskills) with some added status chances, Rosa can't do anything about that unless some non-berserk status is turn 1 which seems unlikely as hell.
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3): Ryu can block the relevant status, so it becomes a slugfest. Ryu has a lot more healing and buffing, while Hugo has evade and all that... this is a lot like Ryu vs. Chris last round. I have to think it ends up the same way, while Hugo having five shots of Healing Wind and somewhat better speed/damage is a big help, Ryu still has over twice as many shots of healing, and surely isn't taking THAT many more turns to KO (~15 vs. ~10?). Close again. EDIT: As per arguments later in the thread, Hugo's superior speed and slight stun rate probably tilt this. Hard to be certain.

Middle

Chivalrous Alys Brangwin (PS4) vs. Healer Yuna (FFX): Alys' only hope is sleep, and she only has two shots of that and Yuna reduces its accuracy to 30%. Endgame Alys has a better argument due to both more shots and Saner invincibility (though Dispel makes that less ironclad than it could be), but yeah, should be Yuna's.
Sharon the Astraphobe (LoL2) vs. Agni'd Myria (BoF): With no magic or MA, Sharon doesn't have the offence needed here against Myria's defence. She also has no healing/regen that I can see, so she loses the slugfest cleanly.
Rune Walsh, proper magician (PS4) vs. Altered Cecilia (WAACF): Negatis does its thing.

Light

Prince (of the) Light Edge (FF4) vs. Super Trainee Amelia (FE8): Edge... 4HKOs with Fumas here, and doubles unless Amelia uses a Slim Lance. Amelia with a Slim Lance does... not great damage, but enough that three Slims and a Silver kill? But Edge will get four Fumas off before then. Maybe start with a Javelin for an opening counter, then switch to Slim, then hit with Silver before Edge's fourth Fuma. Eh, nah, still not enough.
Speedrun Jack (WAACF) vs. Diamond Mog (FF6): Mog is just fragile enough to be 3HKOed by Mog if Mog is nice enough to give him FP before his third turn... otherwise 4HKO. So Mog goes for Dusk Requiem, I think... but the chances of Snare landing turn 3 (baking in the chance of stumble), or turn 2 if Mog doesn't do damage with his first two turns, strikes me as too low.
Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT): Hard to see Marle losing this. Aura allows her to fully heal herself after any successful Stop, so she just has to wait for Stop to land immediately after it wears off. Or for it to be stackable, which is possible! Or for Protect to wear off, which it likely will if Yulie only gets one turn between bouts of Stop and uses it to heal... confuse-blocking, unprotected Yulie takes hits so bad even Marle damage looks okay.
Selfish Clarissa (WAXF) vs. ElfChallenge Arnaud (WA4): Illusion does its thing, yeah.

Puny

Ted (Suiko1) vs. Pacifist Riki (Saga Frontier): Riki durability is bad, Ted has a 2HKO at worst rendering his healing game useless.
Songstress Tear (TotA) vs. Milon1 (FF4): Nobody answered me this last time, so I'll ask it again: can Tear use basic physicals?
"I quit. -Whim" Lily (MK2) vs. SuperBlackAielWizard (FF1DoS): That Lily build is hideous. Could be argued I guess.
Grounded Ulki (FE10) vs. Quiet Qiryl (DQ4): RandomMath makes sense to me. Looks like Ulki's counters miss the needed 4HKO.

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2)
Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1)
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - Generally see Robots as immune to all status (including stuff like Izanami's HP-1, but YMMV on that one) and take the P4 levels pretty high (80-90?) so this isn't much of a fight to me.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX)
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4)
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier)

Heavy

Underdrive TimeLord (Saga Frontier) vs. Vincible Elc (AtL2) - Durrr no Invincible. Either way, Timelord slows Elc's speed to near nothing, then can Glass Shield around Divide and probably win with some status from Chaos Stream or just lol and use TimeLeap.
Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT)
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX) - Pretty sure Lulu should've been Godlike myself!
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2)

White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3)

Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1) - Better slugger. Forgot how absurd Jade's durability is.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - Form 2 Izanami only isn't that much of a downgrade (still high Godlike). She gets a free win with HP->1 + poke that T260G can't really dodge, and waxes her in a straight up slugfest even ignoring that.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) - Valefor never sees the light of day.
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - EDIT: Post Random-discussion. So Valefor going out first gets instantly waxed by Mind Charge into OHKO, and Yuna loses if she knocks Izanami below 50% HP due to the threat of HP->1 + poke. So she needs to stall during phase 1 into Grand Summon to have a shot at winning. I don't think this is happening, Debilitate owns, and I don't see Reflect working on Izanami's unique almighty MT move. There's also fear to throw a wrench into things as well.
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier) - Easily kills with OD sequence.

Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT) - If NEB says she doesn't 3-2 I'm inclined to agree.
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX) - Death.
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT) - Does Orlandu not heal lock with Holy Explosion? Ice Brand + Black Robe gives him 315 damage. He doesn't need to drop the Bracer, and can still use the Aegis Shield to ward off turn 1 status. EDIT: Forgot about Blink. Don't think I'm inclined to see it working here though, FFT swordskills being ITE.
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3)

Chivalrous Alys Brangwin (PS4) vs. Healer Yuna (FFX)
Lazy Blue (Saga Frontier) vs. Insomniac Ness (EB) - Some form of status.
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB) - Battalion Sword.

Straight & Narrow Aika (SoA) vs. Busted Cloud (FF7) - Yeah I think I give the half limit bar nowadays.

Ted (Suiko1) vs. Pacifist Riki (Saga Frontier)

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2)
Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1)

**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - I don't' think I see robots immuning the HP-1.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) - Sure
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4) - ...I...guess? kneejerk. EDIT: Checking back in...yeah, more sure of this. Unique almighty attacks aren't something I'd generally see getting caught by reflect.
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier) - OD, sure.

Heavy

Underdrive TimeLord (Saga Frontier) vs. Vincible Elc (AtL2) - He has the tricks for this. Glass Shield probably gives elc fits. EDIT: ...wait. I get that Elc can block stone(which he needs to or just loses), but TL's fire defense is REALLY that bad? And Glass Shield can't stuff Divide? Man what. I respect the QUI destroying as well, but if Elc can really just OHKO or slip Divide around GS then it doesn't matter.
Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT) - NEB math, sure.
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX) - Yup
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2) - Without Death, yeah. Can't seal the deal against infinite resources
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT) - Facestabs, Aegis shield makes something miss, facestabs again. Don't think I'm gonna see Blink stopping ITE swordskills.
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3) - Ryu can block sleep, iirc. And ID, if Hugo even gets Funeral Wind. And then it's a slugging match, where Ryu has deeper resources for healing and more hp.

Sharon the Astraphobe (LoL2) vs. Agni'd Myria (BoF) - Uh...kneejerk I guess.
Bright Knight (BD) vs. Noa w/ bad makeup (LoL) - Doesn't that leave DK with basically just physicals and minus strike? I....think Noa can get around that somehow.
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB)
Rune Walsh, proper magician (PS4) vs. Altered Cecilia (WAACF) - Negatis, sure.

Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT) - Still has Aura...should be enough?
Straight & Narrow Aika (SoA) vs. Busted Cloud (FF7) - Sure, he'll hit a limit eventually.

Godlike

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2): Half of Reicher's Remote Blades will target Lady's body, which can take no damage.
Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1): Rar bigger numbers wins.
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4): Anything comparable to HP->1 that T260G immunes? What about stat breaks?
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX): Figuring NEB is probably right...
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4): Statusy stuff probably works?
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier)

Heavy

Underdrive TimeLord (Saga Frontier) vs. Vincible Elc (AtL2): Elc would need to block Stone, so sacrifices his armor to do so, which brings down his physical durability a decent amount but he doesn't care about that here. He can open with a physical special attack which would tend to 2HKO TimeLord. TimeLord can counter by trying for GlassShield spam... but then he's locked into trading turns with Elc and Elc has more Fire Storms than TimeLord has GlassShields (and he needs to use JP to kill Elc). He may use the Speed Debuff (if it beats out Elc's Cure-All negating speed debuffs), but it would need to be turn 1 as it failing would lead to Elc completing a 2HKO. I guess you could see TimeLord using GlassShield and being faster after the first turn and so getting the doubles he needs... but he would need a fair amount to finish Elc off since Elc's durability to magic will be ~1.45, and TimeLord does 21% PCHP damage? Also worth mentioning, TimeLord's magic defense is poor, so Elc probably nails him with a very nasty Mind Buster. That might leave TimeLord nearly incapable of killing Elc, or getting enough 'doubles' to finish him? Does Glass Shield prevent MP Busting? I guess it would stop Extract from working, even though Extract doesn't target a specific enemy (Glass Shield always works in a duel I think).

I think all of this musing is moot, as Elc likely just OHKOs with his Fire basic physical attack, which hits TimeLord's very poor physical defense/HP/fire res. Elc should be able to scrounge up enough damage off his turn 1 physical (which has poorish accuracy but high damage). TimeLord doesn't have any evade so that probably works. A rare occurence where Elc is thankful his basic physical is elemental...

Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT)
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX)
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2): Deathless Evans has no status, so uh... yeah. Standard Lilka win.
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT): What NEB said. I think.
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3)

Middle

Chivalrous Alys Brangwin (PS4) vs. Healer Yuna (FFX): Isn't threatened by her. If only Alys had some kind of regen!
Lazy Blue (Saga Frontier) vs. Insomniac Ness (EB): Ness' physical damage is poor.
Sharon the Astraphobe (LoL2) vs. Agni'd Myria (BoF): If only Sharon had decent regen! Even then she'd probably lose?
Bright Knight (BD) vs. Noa w/ bad makeup (LoL): Uh... Noa can Store AP until she has enough for a powerful physical onslaught, but Bright Knight can do the same and time it with Life & Death. Think he wins, with the Minus Strike loop threatening her should she play with him too much.
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB): ID AGAIN.
Rune Walsh, proper magician (PS4) vs. Altered Cecilia (WAACF): ID AGAIN.

The list of things GlassShield does and doesn't stop is pretty arbitrary (although it gets the large majority of damage-dealing attacks) but one thing it never works against is attacks which are currently affecting multiple targets. Normally, in a duel, MT attacks become singletarget in practice and thus GlassShield-blockable... but two types of attacks which don't? Full MT attacks (e.g. FF6 Quake) and draining attacks, both of which affect their own caster. So HP/MP draining of any type should work (although not pure MP damage).

Sharon the Astraphobe (LoL2) vs. Agni'd Myria (BoF): If only Sharon had decent regen! Even then she'd probably lose?

Myria has a 15HKO so even crappy regen is potent, and decent regen is an autowin.  (Just...   dat durability.  Nothing like making average damage opponents have a 31HKO or so.)

For Jade vs. Ghaleon: Obviously this comes down to interps to a degree, and I know where Elf's math is coming from, but for reference to others...
Jade has 106 damage to a 397 HP average (using the "Fusion HP" average because bosses deserve no credit for intentionally handicapping yourself.  Alternatively, that if you don't fuse, you have more PCs at your disposal and there should be some holistic penalty for that.)  That is ~.26 PCHP, and arguably should be even worse if you bake the tinest amount of "you might have Agni" in at all (which is way, way easier to get than the likes of FF7 Knights of the Round).  If you use the unfused HP, it's 256 or .41 PCHP.  PC damage is ~1415 a round, so he survives 17.67 rounds for 7.07 PCHP off raw numbers, slightly more if you scale vs. 3.5 PCs.  I personally wouldn't see him that tough, but let's assume he is for now.  Jade is slightly faster than the DL average speed, but he's slower than 3/4 of the actual party members you'd use vs. him (Ryu/Puka/Deis), and the 4th, Nina, has initiative on most of her key spells, so I'm not inclined to hype him as any sort of speedster.

Ghaleon has 300 damage vs. a 250 HP average for .86 PCHP damage.  He's also faster than Hiro (but slower than Jean) on that move.  Unlike Bruiser Jade he does lose a bit of damage if he's forced to vary his moves at all.  There's 1370 PC damage (w/ the ignoring elemental resistance average) a round coming in vs. 7000 HP, so he's surviving ~5 rounds for 2.04 PCHP.  (If you scale vs. 3.5 PCs, 2.92 PCHP, I believe.)

So...  Ghaleon 9HKOs, while Jade might barely 8HKO.  (If you scale vs. 3.5, that helps Ghaleon more than Jade...  now Jade has a 12HKO or so while Ghaleon is barely effected, he should still 9HKO or at worst 10HKO.).  Except...  Ghaleon is probably faster, at least if you take Puka into account at all.  And he goes first.  If he can get a single double turn in, he wins.  If Jade's HP is seen as even somewhat lower, he also cleanly wins.

Basically for Jade to win you have to discount Agni, hold him vs. the no-fusions HP average, *and* see his speed as fine (which, in fairness, kind of goes together) and not scale his HP down for other reasons at all.  That way Jade will 5-6HKO or so and win the race (although if you hold both vs. 3.5 PCs, not that I encourage this, Jade gets cut to a 8HKO or so again, and speed hype might yet come back into play...).  I don't see it this way obviously, but that's the interp split.

There are a couple of problems with "fusion HP"...

1) Puka takes double normal physical damage, on top of his bad defence. This effect is not factored into Jade's listed damage. If you do, his physical is probably closer to 140-150 before his 10% crit rate, so should still be a 3HKO.
2) If Puka dies (which he absolutely can even if you keep him religiously healed, Jade has Rub; criticals also hit him like a truck), he defuses, and suddenly Karn's HP of just over 200 is what matters.
3) Hyping the #2 highest HP PC (#1 without counting fused Karn, to be clear) as below average is something that just strikes me as intuitively very, very wrong, especially when combined with the previous point. Note that Jade has a 3HKO even against the median HP even if we consider Puka and pretend Mogu doesn't exist.

Also note that at low HP (like every other BoF1 enemy), Jade's physical damage rises significantly, he'll get at least one turn off this way.

As far as holistic initiative goes, do note that Ghaleon faces one PC with initiative too (of your choice!)... that or you're using the Goddess Crest for something else, probably damage, and his HP falls. I agree that Ghaleon is faster, but I don't see any doubles here.

Ghaleon's about 2.42 PCHP to me, 3.5 PCs of course. Jade is, as you noted, at 7+ (8+ for me), and there's a lot more reason to take his HP higher than there is to take it lower: Puka is missable, Ryu needs a turn to transform, both need a turn to retransform if they die (and Ryu is extremely killable in that fight) and less damaging PCs do exist.

Doesn't really matter here but bosses like Jade annoy me a fair bit as they are so durable as to shrug at scaling and yet get tremendous advantage from perfect AI. This is more a complaint when they fight PCs. And certainly not an issue here since BoltX is of no consequence.

Though I can't think of any bosses like this except Jade offhand...

I can think of a few other bosses who have one move which is way better than the rest (WA1 Luceid is one I'll always remember since I never saw the move in question), but of course they're usually significantly less durable than Jade. I can't actually think of too many bosses who have durability close to Jade's who have that issue. Maybe some of the Xenosaga 2 bosses... we often hype them using their boost very intelligently in ways they won't in-game although that's really more of a focusing issue (and applies to various bosses who doubleact). I dunno.

I know Snowfire has floated the idea of varying up what moves bosses use in some way. It's kind of interesting. Maybe you could force bosses to not use the same move twice in a row? (Provided they have more than one viable move obviously.) Or you could go full-on AI mode and pretty much force bosses to use a random move from their arsenal, although I'd let them skip moves that the opponent immunes if it couldn't be immuned in its home game (e.g. no penalising Kefka or Fou-Lu by forcing them to use their HP-1 moves against bosses). Or just do that for their damaging moves, to avoid headaches like "what is the % chance Avalon uses a status" headaches. I'd also certainly want to push up boss durability somewhat if I started being very harsh on their AI, though; perfect AI is after all one of the big reasons we scale down their HP.

I'm not going to start doing this mid-tournament (obviously), but it's interesting to think about.

How about Reicher vs. Lady NEB?? Do you disregard Lady's Invincible body as a target for Remote Blade? Is there any chance of her getting enough stock for the doom combo mid-fight?

There's no way Lady accumulates 100 stock before her second turn. Third, sure: all the hits Reicher gets ensures it, I think. But I agree that if Lady gets a third turn, she should win anyway.

Even if you assume half of Remote Blade's timed spheres are useless, Reicher can still do Remote Blade (he chooses the initial target, then 2 out of 4 timed spheres will hit) + Flying Lightsword for 1.89 PCHP, which is certainly enough to me. I'm assuming that Reicher gets his timed sphere at 1.8 (i.e. 2.8 Reicher turns) is faster than Lady's third, mind, but even if it isn't Reicher still has a 50% chance to land 2+ out of 3 timed spheres, and if he's below ~63% of his effective total HP he can afford to use Protection of Light as a quick-action before his second turn, which pulls another 54 damage out of Flying Lightsword.

Decent fight though, certainly!

Pretty sure he can't do Protection of Light, actually, despite the name!  No Perfect Barrier either, if I interpret the nerf right...  those aren't holy-elemental damage attacks which is really the only thing Holy Warrior Reicher wants to do.

Also in belated reply since Djinn hasn't shown up, I'm going to say from chatting with Djinn awhile back that I believe Tear physicals ARE legit.  Although they are also horrible and mostly useful for gaining TP in infinite stall matches.  And her Mystic Arte is also allowed.  Djinn?

GenocideHeart is basically Jade on crack, featuring 4 PC HP of damage one move and at best a 3HKO on anything else.

Actually, I think Saga had a few bosses that fit into this mold type.

Will try to get the rest later. I really wanted to vote on Ryu/Hugo though since it seems my vote is contrary there.

Godlike

Dream Deported Lady (SH3) vs. Holy Warrior Reicher (MK2)- Would have to math a few specific things out, but sounds like it's close enough to go either way.
Redeemed Ghaleon (Lunar 2) vs. Bruiser Jade (BoF1)
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4)
**Type-1 Body T260G (Saga Frontier) vs. Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX)
Valefor Fangirl Yuna (FFX) vs. Izanami-no-Okami (P4)
Discriminating Loki (VP) vs. Pre-Rogue Blue (Saga Frontier)

Heavy

Underdrive TimeLord (Saga Frontier) vs. Vincible Elc (AtL2) - Glass Shield can just be cancelled with a physical anyways since Elc's physical isn't true short range.
Chivalrous Rika (PS4) vs. PC Magus (CT)
B-ending Riou (S2) vs. Knightless Lulu (FFX)
DeathlessEvans (BoF2) vs. Decressed Lilka (WA2)
Unholy Rosa (FF4) vs. Pauper Orlandu (FFT)
White Mage Ryu (BoF3) vs. Windy Hugo (S3)- So Ryu does have double the healing. So first of all, Ryu HAS to equip Talisman (because going for the Ashura Sword is going to make his damage even worse, and let's not underrate how many attacking turns Ryu will already need).

Ryu likely 3HKOs Hugo (5HKOs at base, but Hugo's defense isn't good), but I'm thinking that Ashura Sword would push that to 4HKO. Hugo should 3HKO back. Hugo is faster. Factoring in Hugo's evade, Ryu needs like 45 attacks to sink Hugo (if you factor in crits messing up healing, Hugo's are going to be far more dangerous). 60 with Ashura Sword.

So Sleep strategies aren't out of the arena since Ryu is just halving with Protectors.

I know Ryu has counters, but so does Hugo (Granted, were Counters 1 swing? Regardless, Hugo has them at a better rate by 2x I believe). Regardless, there are definitely times that Hugo's counter will be pushing his 3HKO to a 2HKO far reliably than Ryu's just due to sheer hit rate.

As a reminder, Ryu is losing 8% of his turns to Stun (halved by Protectors from 16%).

Ryu certainly can win, but seems like Hugo really, really should have a leg up here.

Middle

Chivalrous Alys Brangwin (PS4) vs. Healer Yuna (FFX)
Lazy Blue (Saga Frontier) vs. Insomniac Ness (EB)
Sharon the Astraphobe (LoL2) vs. Agni'd Myria (BoF)
Bright Knight (BD) vs. Noa w/ bad makeup (LoL)
Single Sword Hiro (Lunar 2) vs. Decloaked Poo (EB)
Rune Walsh, proper magician (PS4) vs. Altered Cecilia (WAACF)

Light

Tiamat (FF1DoS) vs. Actually mute Crono (CT)
Prince (of the) Light Edge (FF4) vs. Super Trainee Amelia (FE8)
Speedrun Jack (WAACF) vs. Diamond Mog (FF6)
Odoryuk Yulie (WA4) vs. Magicless Marle (CT)
Straight & Narrow Aika (SoA) vs. Busted Cloud (FF7)
Selfish Clarissa (WAXF) vs. ElfChallenge Arnaud (WA4)

Yeah, I did forget about that. Of course, a heavy bulk of Hugo's damage ignores that. So the match becomes really swingy. Ryu takes forever to get his hits in, and Hugo has a lot of chance to get a lucky combination in (Between 2x and 3x crits, Counters, and Stun. Throw in Sleep still being a valid strategy, it still feels like Hugo has the upper hand to me). There's just a lot of small things that can trip Ryu up in comparison to what can trip Hugo up. Really, really good match though.
