Writeup Graveyard / Re: Zhuzhen>>>Alfred
« on: April 19, 2008, 02:03:31 AM »
The young Schroedinger was at wits end.  He was already mocked for his damage in the League, and here he thought he was finally handed a chance to get a win...  Until, he learned, that his opponent could heal himself.  This caused Alfred to seal himself in his room for days until the match, requesting any food to be delivered to him through a slot by the door.  Various sounds of tinkering could be heard, and they continued for hours on end; few people could find a time where there wasn't the sound of tinkering.

Come to the day of the match, and Alfred finally left his room donning a tacky trench coat.  Considering the weather, one had to question why he would wear such a thing.  It became obvious at the duel.

Alfred had been mass-producing bombs into a huge bomb pile.

Zhuzhen wasn't afraid.  He just sent a dragon composed of fire at Alfred.  That's all Zhuzhen needed to do, really - Alfred's preparation did the rest.

They found Alfred later putting on fireworks shows for the people in the Town of Meria.  Researchers are currently trying to figure out what the bomb was made of to cause the rip in time and space to another world, and restore Alfred's memory of the last nine years.

« on: April 15, 2008, 05:50:43 AM »
Team Super| Rika, Aeonless Yuna, Palom, Porom, Onix
[Floor 1]
Team Super vs. FF1 Garland and PC Bowser- Onix actually should have okay damage here, lets the team push Bowser out of the way fast at least.
Team Super vs. Kwanda, Onix, Humphrey- Ice should OHKO Onix, Palom should get a turn. Leave Kwanda alive, heal up.
Team Super vs. Jogurt, Ramus, Euram Barrows, Big Joe, Gobi, Kelvena- Twin wipes the fight out.
Team Super vs. Luna, Ricardo, Lucia- Here as well, I think?
Team Super vs. Viper Manor Lynx, PC Harle and Boss Gafgarion-  Elim Harle. Gaf and Lynx *have* to kill Porom or else deal with her revival. Palom stops Gaf. That's fight.

Team El Cid | Zerase, Emily, Bernadette, Rena, Mint
[Floor 3a]
*All MT is ST and targetable
Team El Cid vs. Jowy- Um. How fast did Bern gets revival? Because if she doesn't have it the team is in deep shit at this point. Rena's healing is late duengon. (L60, that's dis k 2) EDIT: L15, early on. Going to assume she has two shots here. Jowy doesn't OHKO anyone, dies horribly.
Team El Cid vs. Deis 1- Deis doesn't OHKO anyone.
Team El Cid vs. Aeonless Yuna and Rydia- Rydia is easily smashed, Yuna lacks full healing and any way to make damage stick.
Team El Cid vs. Demi and Wren- Zerase and Emily one round Demi. Wren can't OHKO anyone.
Team El Cid vs. Decus and Vesper

Team Fnorder | Raquel, Zozma, Claude, Aika, Mint
[Floor 3a]
*All MT is ST and targetable
Team Fnorder vs. Jowy
Team Fnorder vs. Deis 1
Team Fnorder vs. Aeonless Yuna and Rydia- Usual sharp pain nonsense.
Team Fnorder vs. Demi and Wren- They have to toast Mint here. Everyone else besides Mint should be able to gang up and kill Demi. Wren isn't really a threat otherwise, Aika.. should be able to keep the team in semi respectable shape going into the boss fight.
Team Fnorder vs. Decus and Vesper- See below.

Works

RPGDL Discussion / Re: Season 42-2: Icy overkill within
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:12:34 PM »
Limtis are not dodgeable atacks. Limits that miss might be just because it is a status effect limit, but limits that deal pure physical damage do not miss. I've played the game like 23 times, I'm pretty sure I'm right. The enemie with the best evade is that cactuar grass plant creature when the weapon explodes and you access that hidden area next to Cosmo Canyon. That enemy has the best evade in the game, I've never seen a pure physical limit miss once.

OK, there's the numbers, now go run the tests to prove it.  Pick a weapon for a character that potshots accuracy (I think there's one that brings it down to like 40% or something, unless my memory is faulty), announce ALL your stats, what enemy you're testing on (like that highly evasive enemy you just told us about), and I'd say...  20 uses of a pure physical limit (that's not Vincent - his is an exception)?  Anywho...  Afterwards, announce the results of your tests.

Besides, even IF limits are a factor (as there's no way other than taking damage in battles that they go up, therefore, they start at 0 in the DL), then wouldn't the same physical walling, his own physicals, and then an L4 from Sheena's Lightning Rune be enough?

Now, on to my voting.

Godlike

Seymour Guado (FFX) vs. False Althena (L:EBC)
Deathevans (BoF2) vs. Miguel (CC)
Dhoulmagus (DQ8) vs. Rika (PS4)
Lulu (FFX) vs. Ryu (BoF4)
- I know, epic voting.

Heavy

Arc Eda Ricolne (AtLC) vs. Selan (Lufia 2)
Sasarai (S3) vs. Neclord (Suikos) - I'd vote here, except that I've not played Suikoden 3.
Articuno (PKMN) vs. Tosh (AtLC)
Boomerang (WA1) vs. Sync (TotA)

Middle

Sheena Lepant (Suikos) vs. Cid Highwind (FF7)
Alice Elliot (SH1) vs. Dupa (S3) - I can't vote on this, but I know it's not even close.
Roland (DDS) vs. Nei (PS2)
Konrad (S4) vs. Paine (FFX-2)

Light

Zhuzhen Liu (SH1) vs. Alfred Schoredinger (WA3) - Yeah, I like healing.
Shady (WA3) vs. Ard (WA2) - I'm...  Not quite sure on this one.  Shady was actually more threatening to my characters than Ard was.
Jayle (VP1) vs. Gong (SF1)
Rody (S3) vs. Dinn (S5)

1330
Godlike

Yuna (FFX) vs. Malik Benedict (WA3) - Malik has physical immunity.  Malik has decent status.  Malik lacks damage.  Yuna gets a 50% Confusion AND silence resistance from an  armor gained from a hard-to-miss chest.  So, the question is this:  Can Malik hit her with confusion, then silence, and then confuse her again when it wears off before she gets a turn?  This is also assuming that you only allow Aeonless Yuna, and Malik goes first, so...  I'm guessing no.
Magus (CT) vs. Citan Uzuki (XG)
Gades (Lufias) vs. Zelos Wilder (ToS)

Ramirez (SoA) vs. Lady (SH3) - Lady is...  Actually exceptionally durable with a final boss, what with having her being immune to everything (including damage) until Malice Umbral dies.  That effectively gives Lady 7200 + 1 HP.  Can Ramirez kill Umbral before dying and survive Lady's last counter for the win?  Probably not.

Heavy

Sir Leopold (DQ8) vs. Jeremy Non (WA4)
Farah Orstedd (ToE) vs. Drachma (SoA)

Canas (FE7) vs. Sharon (Legaia 2) - Sharon hype?  Acceptable.
Largo (TotA) vs. Zalbag Beoulve (FFT)

Middle

Ramza Beoulve (FFT) vs. Rikku (FFX) - EDIT:  Then I remember I still haven't seen Ramza's Ultima.  While I hear the damage is rather underwhelming, I have to make all things considered, right?
Lani (FF9) vs. Ayne (Legaia 2) - Ayne is slow.  I mean, REALLY slow.  Lani probably doubleturns with one of her more powerful spells to win right off the bat.  That's how badly I consider Ayne speed.
Miranda (LoD) vs. Venusaur (PKMN)
Yuki (G3) vs. Vincent Valentine (FF7)

Light

Shana (LoD) vs. Riddel Viper (CC)
Flonne (Disgaea) vs. Gobi (BoF1) - And here, Blue Oyster Cult will arrive on the scene to serenade Flonne's victory...  Or something.  It'd still be funny.
Turnip (CC) vs. Kiwi (SF2)
Algus Sadalfas (FFT) vs. Fu So Ya (FF4) - Searching for Fu So Ya respect...  Respect found.  Searching for Algus respect...  Error!  Respect not found!

Writeup Graveyard / Lani (vs. Ayne)
« on: April 04, 2008, 02:21:06 PM »
It has taken 42 seasons, but Lani’s finally starting to get the recognition she deserves!  After the stunning victory over Ricardo for the Light championship, Bounty Hunter Lani is ready to go all out for another win, this time in a division a step up for some real credit!  Her first opponent this season is a fellow axe-user, but that won’t deter her at all – she can dance circles around this guy!  Not only that, but this guy’s defense against spells is so poor, Lani will probably be able to win before Ayne even moves!  It’s all looking up for her this round, and then Lani can get to important things, like fawning over Amarant, and building up a record that’ll make some nay-sayers’ jaws drop!

What's he got then, Caladblog?

Wow, uh...  You're really harsh on teams, aren't you?  Nah, they probably don't have anything past what you can buy in Besaid, Kilika, and Luca at this point, probably leaving the Brotherhood as the best weapon for him right now...  And nowhere near having ANY of the -aga spells.

Team Monkey | Tidus, Toadstool, Eileen, Pikachu, Monk
[Floor 2a]
Team Monkey vs. Lorenta, Jelanda, Shiho, Mystina
Team Monkey vs. FF1 Knight, FFT Knight, FF3 DS Knight
Team Monkey vs. FF1 Black Mage, FFT Wizard, Vivi
Team Monkey vs. Lucius, Serra, Renault
Team Monkey vs. Ramza and Vandalier Ash - No one is really able to deal with Toadstool's healing.  The rest just fool around from there.

Team El Cid | Zerase, Emily, Bernadette, Rena, Mint
[Floor 2b]
Team El Cid vs. Justin and Ryudo
Team El Cid vs. Cloud, Zidane and Tidus
Team El Cid vs. Claude and Fayt
Team El Cid vs. Ashley, Virginia and Jude
Team El Cid vs. Jeremy Non (2nd) and Angelo - Yet again, healing carries teams far.

Team Fnorder | Raquel, Zozma, Claude, Aika, Mint
[Floor 2b]
Team Fnorder vs. Justin and Ryudo
Team Fnorder vs. Cloud, Zidane and Tidus
Team Fnorder vs. Claude and Fayt
Team Fnorder vs. Ashley, Virginia and Jude
Team Fnorder vs. Jeremy Non (2nd) and Angelo - SharpPain makes this kind of not fair.  Zozma is only half as useful in the final round, but Claude and Raquel splatter things quite nicely.

RPGDL Discussion / Re: Season 42 Nomination pools
« on: March 26, 2008, 10:56:21 PM »
Hmm...  Let's see.  There's a few required noms...  But the rest are rather random.

Godlike:
Sephiroth (FF7) - Lady Food
Mewtwo (PKMN) - I have to.
Orlandu, Cidolfas (FFT) - Him and Edge make a great combo.
Killer (SH3) - Needed for awesome write-ups
Lady (SH3) - Totally deserves Godlike Championship.  Also has an argument against Yuna (Lost Progress against Aeon Summoning?  Possibly!)
Tir McDohl (Suikos) - Another person that stands an excellent chance against Yuna

Heavy:
Momo (BoF3) - I have to.
Rei (BoF3) - I have to.
Edward Geraldine (otherwise known as Edge Eblan) (FFIV) - Main part of the great combo
Rydia (FFIV) - Perfect compliment to a Heavy Edge nom
Largo (TotA) - Test the waters!
Sync (TotA) - See if she's seaworthy!

Middle:
Katt (BoF2) - I have to.
Jennifer (Disgaea) - Seems like it'd work.
Ayne (LoL2) - Should be good for a laugh.
Dupa (S3) - Another one of the matchless characters.  I feel pity.
Levi (S5) - UOM nom possibly?
Alef (ShF1) - I have to.  Never been in, should do decently.

Light:
Turnip (CC) - Last of the CC fighters to get in, I guess...
Futch (Suikos) - ...Season 6?  Pity. *Point of not caring anymore*
Colette Brunel (ToS)
Zhuzhen Liu (SH)
Tellah (FFIV)
Wil (FE7) - I don't even know who this is.

1336
Godlike

Boy (SoE) vs Julius (FE4) - Rooting for Boy

Middle

Montblanc (FFTA) vs Baofu (Pers2) - Doesn't Montblanc have the elements to start making Baofu lose turns or something, or am I recollecting wrong?
White Mage (FF3) vs Rozalin (Dis2) - Yeah, sure.  Rozalin can mess with the White Mage's speed with her Gun skills all she wants, but she'll get taken out early by a casting of Frog, I believe.  Match begrudgingly to the White Mage.
Mohs (TotA) vs Axel (Dis2) - ...There are no words.  Go Guitar Hero!

1337
Tir McDohl (Suikos) (4) - Lategame insane damage, earlygame ST ID, midgame MT ID, fast, and...
Riou (S2) (3) - ...With this guy, Physical MT ITE damage (at least I think it's ITE).  Also an emergency healer, along with being fast and evasive.
Lilka (WA2) (2) - Buffing and magic damage.  Magic damage isn't MT until later, but eh.  Also emergency healer and revive specialist.  Also, literally never runs out of resources once you let her get going.
Lucia (SH2) (1) - ...Despite sucking in a duel, she's actually not too bad in a team setting.  Her Aromatherapy skill is actually pretty interesting, and she can kind of attend to her defense problem with her own spells.  Another plus for her is helping Tir and Riou be more awesome later, and Lilka around mid-game, I think...  Ricardo would've been better, but I only had 1 point left.
Mint (ToP) (Free) - Unlimited healing.  Lilka and Riou are there to panic heal if Mint goes down, but pretty much doesn't ever stop healing.

Biggest weakness:  Status resistance.  Lucia is basically the only one that can get it, and she can spread it around (for sacrificing other useful ATK or DEF buffs), but she has to get a turn, first...  That, and Lilka's the only one with elemental damage, unless you count Lucia's Heat Edge.  On the earlier floors, Lucia might have problems with resources, but it's not too bad.  Stalling doesn't work because of her, but that's a small liability anyway.

I would probably consider Bowser to be PC Bowser, unless Boss Bowser sucks less than I remember him sucking. (Is there any way to lose? ...granted, the same could be said of Garland... )

Yeah, you CAN lose to Boss Bowser...  If you never attack the chain behind him.  So in that case, he kind of acts like Ozzie or something.  As I've HEARD about people doing LLG runs (I don't know why, but they exist), Bowser does start with Terrorize, regardless of what level you get him at (even level 3, which is apparently the lowest Mario can be), so...  Yeah.

Team Test vs. FF1 Garland and Bowser (Bosses who kidnapped Princesses)
Team Test vs. Kwanda, Onix, Humphrey (Durable)
Team Test vs. Jogurt, Ramus, Euram Barrows, Big Joe, Gobi, Kelvena (Joke Characters)
Team Test vs. Luna, Ricardo, Lucia (Buffers)
Team Test vs. Lynx and Gaffgarion (Earlygame bosses that are stupid or something)

...Battle 1 is scary off the bat with Bowser's Terrorize, unless the team has MT status healing...
...Battle 2 is agreeable, since they don't really have any tricks other than "be tanky" and "hit stuff".
...Battle 3 is awesome as it is.
...Battle 4 can get REALLY hard if the team doesn't have a lot of high MT damage.
...Battle 5 really can turn out not fair, just for Gaff being there.

Godlike

1-Ryu (BoF3) vs. Ted (S4) - An awesome change in the "Welcome to Godlike" trend.
Celes Chere (FF6) vs. Jade (BoF1) - Unless Celes can turn out at least 3-2ing Jade, I...  Don't think she wins this.  A pity, that.

Heavy

1-Lynx (CC) vs. Claus F. Lester (ToP) - ToPo Klarth starts summoning.  Lynx hits Klarth.  Klarth has to start all over.  Rinse and repeat.
Barbarossa (S1) vs. Gades (Lufias) - I...  Didn't see Gades as very threatening in Lufia 1.  Barbarossa, however...
Nina (BoF2) vs. Hojo (FF7) - I refuse to think on this.

Middle

Nash (L:SSSC) vs. Karin Koenig (SH2) - I'd love to vote Karin on this...  But I haven't even finished Lunar yet.

Light

Gepetto (SH2) vs. Lucia (SH2) - This match would probably fail less if Lucia could buff herself.

Kay, um...

Super Mario Galaxy - I beat the main story a LONG time ago, but...  I have like 7 or 8 more stars to go, and I just can't seem to muster up the attention to get them all.  It was a fun game though, even if I spent far too long trying to 1cc the Trial Stages before giving up on that goal (I DID 1cc the ball-rolling stage, though).  I occasionally pop it in and try to force myself to finish it, though...  Success is at ~5% to this mission.

Perfect Cherry Blossom - Good god even on easy I have trouble.  I just assume I need more practice or something - my best characters are ReimuA and SakB for some reason, though.

Pop'n Music - I have 9 and 10, but I find myself playing 13 almost exclusively.  I'm working on improving my skill, but Hyper stages still manage to absolutely obliterate me.  It is fun though, especially with more than one person trying a run.  Home version means unlimited tries!  Yay!  It's a shame that it never got released in the states, though.

Shining Force - I find this fun DON'TKILLME.  I got as far as the first Pao village (I powerlevel characters, and my friend advances the plot, so right now, I have two Vicars - Khris and Lowe), but I refuse to go any further until I recruit Jogurt.  I saw him once, saved...  And now, I can't seem to find him again.  If I missed him, I'm gonna start a new game...

Also, if this game has an actual plot other than "there's the big bad, go kill it," please tell me.

Billy vs. SNAKEMAN - This...  Is a wierd game.  Since you're actually limited to what you can do in a single day, this is enough to keep me playing...  And playing...  And playing...  With even three characters.  They're named for video game references of course...  But yeah.  WilKnights, Van Burace, and DemonIrwin.  No downloads or anything, and getting stuff is pretty easy...  Though the action limits can be frustrating.  It's actually a simple system that relies on a RNG for about 90% of the things that go on in there (Hatbot's younger sibling or something?).  You have levels, which determine how many dice are rolled for when something requires that stat, strength (which for each +1 strength, that value is added to the roll), and range (normally, you can only get 1-10, no matter what your STR bonus is, but if you have a range bonus, like a +1 for example, your highest roll would be a 11 instead).  Doing regular missions takes 10 stamina, special missions take 30, and there's other actions that take different amounts otherwise.  Missions are given to you fairly randomly, sometimes requiring, say, two dice that have a value of 7 or more, or one die that requires a roll of 10, or even four dice that require a value of 3 or more.  Your stamina refill rate and max chakra values go up as you gain higher ranks.  Stamina refills to your max value at rollover each night (which is about...  1 - 2 AM central time), and chakra is adjusted to half its maximum value.

If you want to try it yourself, here's the link (along with the character name of my main):

Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today!

Middle:
