Okay, okay.  I've been wondering what to do with this for a while.

We have *too many people signing up to run games*, for the pace at which we're actually playing them.  If we want to actually get through all of these...

Signups are hereby unofficially closed for the time being?  Consider how long it's going to be, and wait till the queue dies down a lot, to maybe 3-5 games, before signing up.

While it's a good idea to let the cache die down every so often, restricting signups too much somewhat defeats the point.  That is, don't let it get to a point where you say "A new game started, one new signup accepted!", because then you could have people waiting months before even signing up because they don't happen to be around when games start to jump on the signup slot.  Although that presupposes that after the initial experimental glut we'll have more than 6 or 7 people actively designing new games, which might not be a safe one.

I don't intend on anything like that, no.  But a queue that's too long is also discouraging.  It'll take months to get through just the games we have now, and new signups have been coming in every few days.

I fully agree with Alex. Let's let them die down a bit.  It'll be good for people to watch and play.  Modding is fun, but a bit more time to balance and wait and let the daunting list drop down is good.

I switched *Large Mafia places with EvilTom. This is partially because I need to finish up the flavor and partially because after Pretty Princess Mafia finishes I'm going on a bit of a vacation! >_> So... letting his go through first, I'll likely join his as replacement since I may not be around the first few days.

Can the people holding signups at the moment make it clear *here* when they intend to run games? I do this because I don't want to participate in more than two games at a time (and don't really want to play in two LARGE games at once).

VtM is currently taking signups. It will begin when enough people have signed up, and Touhou has ended.

I just figured we were running down the list. To clarify, I'm running WoW Mafia when Pretty Princess concludes. Tai is just insane, so I have no idea when it is going to finish. :p

Yeah, we are running down the list. Numerical order.

I've been thinking we might want to cut back a bit on the larger games.  One, because the balance on them has been iffy at best for a bit, and two, because I think people are starting to get a little annoyed with games with a ton of power in general.  Maybe we should have two or three small ones going instead, then pop up a big one like once a month or something?  I dunno, just throwing a suggestion out there, what do you guys think?

The small ones tend to cycle through a lot faster than the big ones; in effect we're not actually having big ones as often as small ones. Also looking at the supply of large games, if we made them less frequent we'd never get through them o.o
I vote for the current setup for now, but if it shows to be unworkable after a few more games, we can change it.

I realize that the small ones cycle faster, but the big ones need more preparation and, frankly, recovery time for the players.  At least for me, I'm getting burned out and don't want to keep playing in big game after big game, and if too many people start feeling like that we won't have enough players for the big ones.

Yak has a point. It's also not like we absolutely must run every game on that list by a certain point or anything.

I think with the freeze, we've got enough big games to last a GOOD LONG while at this point.  They do take longer to cycle through.

I think perhaps setting an unfreeze number might not be a bad idea.  Like if we get less than 5, or less than 10 or something games on a list we unfreeze it until we hit a certain number again.  So long as we do that we shouldn't have to worry about running out of games (which is REALLY not looking like a problem with this group anyway).

I think with the list we've got we're good for the next couple of months anyway.  Maybe a bit less with the smaller number of small games we've got on the list, but *shrug*.

Just a thought.

I volunteer to co-mod for any games that are coming up, except Megaman Mafia. >_> <_< I have no interest in running a game though!

Alright, given the faster pace of the smaller games, I'm going to define things a little better now.  I'm going to switch my large game from Nintenmafia, which I want to refine more, to a Victorian Mystery themed game which I am rather enthused about, and which I am optimistically pegging at 21 players.

As well, tULoUD will be pegged for 11~15 players, and should involve a good deal of randomness.

Just watching the last couple of games, I have a proposition. All Role setups should have at least two people who aren't playing available to examine the setup before it launches. I think roles are neat, but there is a wave of rage forming against them.

I'm always availiable to look over setups, and think I'd do a pretty good job of making sure things stay sane.

The trouble is that, for large games, there aren't enough people to give up two people interested in the setup to comodding/checking when they could be playing instead.

I'll go ahead and offer myself up as a guy to check role distributions. As was demonstrated by my (lack of) performance in WoW Mafia, I clearly don't have the requisite free time to actually be playing, probably from now until I turn in my thesis in April, but I may as well make myself useful to others if I can. I'm no mafia authority, but I think I've got a decent idea of what sort of setup just... doesn't work, at this point.

There's a decent number of people who aren't playing anymore (Hal, Grefter, Super, off the top of my head) who I'd trust to sanity-check a game.

I actually have an idea for a game but need someone to hear the idea so that it can be "Smodge-proofed", if its a good idea i'll construct it and then wait for this list to empty so that i can run it.
With aall this Roleheavy stuff around its given me an idea ot make a game thats not role hevay and rewards those who are good at working things out.

The other thing is, Examining a setup takes dramatically less time than playing. Someone who's busy may still have time to look over things.
