Shale:

The impostor also sneaks up on and murders the cameraman (I forget his name), so he's not a mere schemer. Yet this killer goes and hides in his room in case 1? And if he's supposed to be a good schemer, why does he come off as so wretchedly incompetent compared to... pretty much every plotter in the game? (It's distinctly Knightly who came up with the crazy fake assassination in case 1, for instance.) In general the character just felt written in too many directions at once, for me, and none of them really measure up to the type of villain Ace Attorney is capable of writing. I also felt the character's concept before the "he's actually a rogue body double" plot twist, that of a legitimate president weighed down by his years in office, was notably more compelling.

I haven't actually done female Shep in ME2 yet. I mostly played it importing the same 1 or 2 characters from ME1 I played which was one of a couple of DudeSheps of varying alignment.

I have replayed ME1 at least in part as female Shep a couple of times though with intent to keep going, but they never really got anywhere.

That said this run through is just that, going to bang the shit out of Garrus. Planning Paragon -> Renegade -> Paragon path through the three games since I kind of feel that is the intended arc.

Gat out of Hell -- I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this. The big cut scene after you finish the perfunctory "assemble the crew, get your goddamn powers" tutorial jobs went from "congrats, you recruited Shakespeare to your team!" to a 90s Disney-style duet between Satan and his daughter, complete with a final crescendo where she looks out her window and ~~birds~~ bats fly by. I wonder if they cast separate singing voices for maximum fidelity to the Lion King/Aladdin formula or their VA is also good at singing?

Having just looked up some scenes, Male!Shep VA is super weird and seeing him is very confusing to me. >_>

The opposite was honestly kind of counter to why I hadn't got far with female Shepherd for a bit. Got so used to Dudeshep VA that is was jarring. Not that I am ever going to hate Jennifer Hale, but it is just weird after so many plays through as Dudeshep.

That and you know, Kaiden scenes not being amazingly steamy gay sequences as he and Dudeshep stand inappropriately close face to face under a red light is way less hot with female Shepherd.

Mass Effect 2 - Beat the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC quest, then spent half an hour being a creep and spying on my party members. But I suppose that's the point of this DLC, yes? Also got told off for having Garrus do something besides calibrate the Normandy's guns. Sass!

Rob: I bought the Saints Row 2, 3, and 4 bundle on Steam when it was on sale a few days ago. It sounds like shit didn't get ridic until 3, so I'm not so interested in 2, but... likely I only have the time/interest to get through one of them. Should I start with 3 and plan to play 4 at some later time, or will I basically get enough of the experience jumping right into 4 and maaaaaaaybe revisiting 3 at some point?

3 has a pretty bonkers story and an absolutely fantastic guest role for the Mayor of Steelport. I think you probably know how it plays: a GTA game but more awesome.

4 gives you motherfucking super powers ten minutes in. Guns and cars still exist but cars are mostly for telekinetically throwing at enemies, making them more like very large grenades than a useful means of conveyance, since you are capable of jumping up the sides of buildings and then taking a running start to glide across the city. There's callbacks to various stuff in the other games (Keith David played a character in Saints Row 1, now he does not play that character because he plays himself, for instance) that you might not get but that's life.

If you're only gonna play one, play SR4 if for no other reason than it is much more different from a sandbox game than SR3 is.

You also aren't President of the United States in 3, nor do you get to choose between ending world hunger or curing cancer by writing "fuck cancer" on paper.

You DO get to meet the only character in any of the games who is more awesome than you, though.

3 sounds like a game I will play the next time I look at GTA and go, "Yknow I wanna play GTA", so I'll probably play that at some point, but for now I want to pretend to be a horse cock dildo wielding demigod for a bit.

Saint's Row 2 is awesome but the PC port is quite bad, unfortunately. If you do give it a try check out the Gentlemen of the Row mod, it offers a bunch of bugfixes and also adds in tons of customization items and other goodies.

Has anyone played the Talos Principle? It sounds really intriguing but most people are afraid to really talk about it, and it seems like some of the best things in the game are to do with aspects of the story which people don't want to spoil. I've heard comparisons with Portal which is positive, but reviewers haven't done a great job expressing why it is compelling. It does look cool on the videos I've seen so I may pick it up anyway but a recommendation here would push me over the edge.

I actually do not like what's happening there.
It felt what have been built starting from SMT and matured through the Raidou game and Strange Joruney has been shattered to piece in this game.

I honestly never felt the timeline laid out by Shin Megami Tensei ever made -any- sense to begin with, so I can't really be bothered. I'm just weirded out over the fact I'm actually enjoying the gameplay even though it's SMT as fuck even for the series standards.
