Title: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4
Post by: Cmdr_King on December 18, 2014, 07:28:31 AM
Oops, lazy.  Plan is that the next week will go up on Sunday as normal, and this topic will just stay open an extra day or two.  Hopefully I avoided any repeat matches but it's getting hard enough to remember them all that I might have let one slip.

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* (3-0) vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) (1-2)
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2)

Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story) (1-2) vs Luther Lansfeld (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time) (0-3)

Lucian (Valkyrie Profile)* (2-1) vs Beast Rune (Suikoden II) (1-2)
Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) (2-1) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) (3-0)
Peach Toadstool (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)* (2-1) vs Labyrinthia Wordsworth (Wild ARMs XF)* (2-1)
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1)

Rebecca Streisand (Wild ARMs 5)* (0-3) vs T260G (SaGa Frontier) (1-2)

Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2)

Lucian vs. Beast Rune already happened. Oh well.

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* (3-0) vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) (1-2)- Just assuming that this is probably right
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2)
Tiz Arrior (Bravely Default)* (2-1) vs Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3)* (1-2)- Don't think Virginia is really primed to OHKO, so...
Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story) (1-2) vs Luther Lansfeld (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time) (0-3)

Lucian (Valkyrie Profile)* (2-1) vs Beast Rune (Suikoden II) (1-2)
Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) (2-1) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) (3-0)
Peach Toadstool (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)* (2-1) vs Labyrinthia Wordsworth (Wild ARMs XF)* (2-1)
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1)- Well, Ryu should still outspeed turn 1. But...hmm, Ryu doesn't have any killer damage. But Millenia's healing is not great. But...if you see Ryu still incurring Dragon AP costs while under Spellbinding Eye, Millenia may laugh, use 3 SBs in a row, severly mess with Ryu's AP and then try to cruise that way. That would basically eat Ryu's full AP (assuming Kaiser)

Rebecca Streisand (Wild ARMs 5)* (0-3) vs T260G (SaGa Frontier) (1-2)- This Rebecca twink is just too anemic on offense. Can't break T2's regen at all. That basically just needs to draw Yuri or something...
Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (1-2) vs  Alternis Dim (Bravely Default) (1-2)- Empyrea just doesn't have the rushing ability overall I think. Maybe on a double, but honestly given her HP she can't really afford waiting around.
Jade (Breath of Fire) (2-1) vs Cidolfas Orlandu (Final Fantasy Tactics) (1-2)
Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2)- Can't vote, but will note that Maxim has lots of elemental access (including Holy, which Arceus can't resist at all)

Miakis (Suikoden V)* (1-2) vs Captain Crow (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (0-3)
Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) (0-3) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)*  (2-1)
Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1)- I would imagine, unleash Squall had some extreme ubertank while healing setup.
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)* (2-1)- Yuffie setup should work well here, I think?

Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1)- I would imagine, unleash Squall had some extreme ubertank while healing setup.

There's no need to theorycraft if it's possible to survive ridic Claude damage; Claude gets status protection from accessories and he's locked to 2 Atlas Rings here, and even if he's allowed to swap 'em out I don't think SO2 gets the range it needs to.  100% S-Atk Sleep and/or Pain (=Blind) off superior speed with Cerberus is not Claude's friend here.  (And that's assuming Squall doesn't just OHKO with magic here...  Bloody Armor only really matters vs. physicals, right?)

Anyway, I vote for throwing Lucian & Beast Rune against random other DL ringers in Godlike for this week.

Is Claude's attacks all physical? Also, how quickly does he get it off?

Claude is 100% physical to my knowledge.

ARPG speed is a dark art, but broadly speaking the 4 mages (Rena/Celine/Leon/Noel) are "slow" and the 8 fighters are "fast".  BUT Rena and possibly Noel arguably get higher DPS by spamming their physical, although the AI will never do this and it requires closing to short range, so YMMV.  There's also the issue of "long moves that stunlock a single enemy but won't slow down other enemies" which gets hand-waved a bit in the DL, as in a duel the duration isn't long *in-effect* since it denies the victim actions during it.  Anyway, I'd definitely see a non-Speed Junction'd Squall as slower than a SO2 Fighter, and a Speed-junctioned Squall (or one with Initiative) as much faster.

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - I assume.
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) - Yep.

Lucian (Valkyrie Profile)* vs Beast Rune (Suikoden II) - I've seen you before.
Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) - e: oh right, overshot Isolde's durability.
Peach Toadstool (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)* vs Labyrinthia Wordsworth (Wild ARMs XF)* - Don't think Labby really cares for status.
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) vs Millenia (Grandia II)*

Rebecca Streisand (Wild ARMs 5)* vs T260G (SaGa Frontier) - SelfRepair.
Arceus (Pokémon) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* - Gut reaction says Arceus has no real means of avoiding Miracle Care to me, so ID gets safely applied from there.

Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)* - Yeah no.
Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)*
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)*
Title: Re: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4

Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2)  Goes first, smash.  Terra has no defense against Stop or Graviga though that mainly serves to reduce the MP spent to win.

Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)*  Bahamut laughs at defense and/or evade twinking.  Edge lives through one quad-cast Bahamut but the second one pastes him.

Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1)
For once, Cerberus is not the go-to GF.  Brothers with HP-J and HP+80% (and there's nothing stopping him from stacking HP+40% on top of that)  Survive Claude's opening assault, Defend, and wait out Bloody Armor.  Spoiled unless you see Claude killing through the inflated HP.  Squall can stick Quake in Elem-Def to stuff Ripper Blast.  Evade stacking with Cactuar is another path.

Ripper Blast is in fact earth elemental; it's that there's almost nothing in-game that's weak or resistant to earth.
Title: Re: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4
Post by: SnowFire on December 19, 2014, 07:40:28 AM
I suppose I should clarify: I'd class even the likes of "Ripper Blast" as physical damage, since as far as I know it scales with Claude's P. Attack and his sword and all.  Elemental physicals, sure, but hey, those are in FF8 too.

DL Claude deals ~.8 PCHP with Mirror Slice, so 3.2 PCHP with 2x Atlas Rings.  He's equipped with Levantine which...  is apparently about double the attack power of the Eternal Sphere (1600->3000).  And huh, the stat topic gives Claude credit for Eternal Sphere?  Not sure I would, it's perma-missable quite easily IIRC, so maybe I should hype DL Claude slightly less in the future.  Anyway, it doesn't appear like it'd be a HUGE damage upswing (the damage loss for Sacred Tear [1250 pow] appears minor), but since it's multiplied by 4, it's pretty big, so we're talking 5 PCHP minimum, possibly more off Twink Claude's Mirror Slice.  Anyway, Brothers does not have Vit junction, and IIRC Tweak League Quistis was at around 2.2 PCHP with the 100 Full-Lifes junctioned, so maybe more like 2.3 PCHP for Squall...  but did FF8 cap HP at 9999?  I'm pretty sure it did.  If so, Squall is pretty well stuck there and the HP boosts don't matter.  If it didn't, he's still getting into the "barely might survive Mirror Slice" territory before setting up Defend spam.  If he does set up Defend spam...  does Defend stay active when Squall's turn rolls around so that he can keep it up forever by just never entering a command?  If it doesn't, then Claude might be able to Energy Sword spam stall into an opening.

Anyway, I'm definitely voting Squall here, but I don't think the supertank strat is gonna work, unless you see Brothers Squall as faster than Claude of course.  (then lol Defend)

Regarding Squall vs. Claude: can't Squall just junction perfect evade and make this fight entirely trivial?
Title: Re: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4
Post by: Dark Holy Elf on December 19, 2014, 04:30:23 PM
I figured the answer would be no, but looking things up, apparently he can? Ultima junctioned to Luck is apparently crazy good, and if I'm reading the mechanics guide correctly, 1 point of Luck = 1 point of Evade. (By contrast, the evade stat is junky to try to junction up... only 24 from Ultima, or 16 from Triple.) Cactuar has 60 Luck from Luck-J and Luck+50% (and Eva-J and Eva+30% for what it's worth), so Squall should be able to max out his evasion I think. Unless FF8 enemies have accuracy over 100 (it's not listed in the guides with enemy stats, so I'm just assuming it's fixed), or FF8 evasion doesn't work on much, which I don't really recall. Having never paid much attention to evade- or luck-junctioning I don't have a good sense of the mechanic myself.

Snowfire: Bloody armor immunes all damage and status so status isn't working there.  Evasion setup would be his best bet offhand.
Title: Re: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4

Eternal Sphere is unique, so of course this would be consider Claude's default DL weapon (It's Star Ocean 2. If the barometer for weapon is ease to get, that makes lots of weapons in SO 2 questionable. It's missable, but easy if you know what you are doing. That second tends to te the barometer of legality. A 1% drop off a rare enemy might take god knows how many hours of extra playing. ES might take 5-10, you just have to know what to exactly do with those extra minutes).

Sounds like it all comes down to mostly whether Squall can manage to get a massive evasion setup.

Personally, it's just easier to average mages getting fewer spells off in 3 turn then trying to play with speed. With a few exceptions, I see most SO 2 techs hitting at average speed.

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* (3-0) vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) (1-2): Dheginsea negates his passives but Ramza should be able to do something nasty with lightning.
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2): Goes first and ends everything.
Tiz Arrior (Bravely Default)* (2-1) vs Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3)* (1-2): Virginia can't status Tiz out by going first?
Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story) (1-2) vs Luther Lansfeld (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time) (0-3): Yeah.

Lucian (Valkyrie Profile)* (2-1) vs Beast Rune (Suikoden II) (1-2)
Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) (2-1) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) (3-0): I guess if you ignore Absorb? If I don't ignore Absorb Yunalesca probably shouldn't be in a dueling format at all.
Peach Toadstool (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)* (2-1) vs Labyrinthia Wordsworth (Wild ARMs XF)* (2-1): zzz
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1): SBE a dragon form to run it out of AP.

Rebecca Streisand (Wild ARMs 5)* (0-3) vs T260G (SaGa Frontier) (1-2)
Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (1-2) vs  Alternis Dim (Bravely Default) (1-2)
Jade (Breath of Fire) (2-1) vs Cidolfas Orlandu (Final Fantasy Tactics) (1-2): I recall this coming up a long time ago. Cid needs Rubber shoes to win? Hmm.
Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2)

Miakis (Suikoden V)* (1-2) vs Captain Crow (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (0-3): 6x Damage finishes her surely. Capn Crow is really durable.
Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) (0-3) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)*  (2-1): Uh, yeah.
Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1): Evade works I guess.
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)*(2-1): Can he just nail her with one of two fatal statuses? EDIT: No? ITD overkill then!

For Millenia vs. Ryu, if Ryu just opts to cast Protect or something on his first turn, can he survive the SBE turns and -then- transform into a dragon?
Title: Re: DL Twink League 2014 Week 4
Post by: Dark Holy Elf on December 20, 2014, 03:37:26 AM
Ryu4 doesn't have Protect, that's Ryu3. (Pretty sure human Ryu4 would get destroyed by SBE chains even if he did.)

Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)*(2-1): Can he just nail her with one of two fatal statuses?

Edge actually can't use his status in this build. Not that it... matters, since they'd have to face Mystile evade and Yuffie even blocks the statuses separately if you don't allow both Fairy and Cat Claw (Fairy Claw being rather sketchy on legality).

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* (3-0) vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) (1-2)
Run away & scream in the corner strats if nothing else are a good tiebreak here.
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2)
Oh hey Meteors aren't elemental.
Tiz Arrior (Bravely Default)* (2-1) vs Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3)* (1-2)
See Pyro, I will consider changing my vote if Virginia has a turn 1 status option here...  although even then, there might be a Chronothief lockdown backup strat, which I'm not normally inclined to consider much due to the huge cut in damage, BUT vs. someone frail who survives via useless dodging, the ITE Godspeed Strike might be worth something.
Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story) (1-2) vs Luther Lansfeld (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time) (0-3)

Lucian (Valkyrie Profile)* (2-1) vs Beast Rune (Suikoden II) (1-2)
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1)
Wait, Ryu still outspeeds despite Millenia having the boosts?  Huh.  No idea.

Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (1-2) vs  Alternis Dim (Bravely Default) (1-2)
Jade (Breath of Fire) (2-1) vs Cidolfas Orlandu (Final Fantasy Tactics) (1-2) - I don't allow Rubber Shoes in the regular DL, but this is the Twink League, so despite Orlandu not being a twink, feel like erring the other direction.  Although in fairness Jade has his backup ID game?!  But eh, Judo Shirt.
Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2)
I'm not much of an Arceus expert, but call this retribution for me not voting in Claude vs. Arceus, which in retrospect was a rob for Arceus - Cosmic Power isn't stopping Claude's totally nutty 5 PCHP damage or whatever.

Miakis (Suikoden V)* (1-2) vs Captain Crow (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (0-3)
Miakis's stall & drain strats FAIL HORRIBLY here, so she needs to do something sneaky and fast.  Elf noted that Crow doesn't really resist stat-downs, so maybe something with that?!  Voting this way for now though, could be argued.
Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) (0-3) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)*  (2-1)
Doesn't seem TOTALLY crazy to think Yuri might be able to 2HKO through the healing, but sure.
Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1)
So the status is out, but the bizarro perfect evade strat is in?  Weird.
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)* (2-1)
The ITD magic blitz champ vs. the tank champ.  Truly if there is a god of destiny, he is fond of plot twists.

EDIT: Yeah I was thinking DL Citan there, Elf.

Twink Citan is over 700% speed, so the only crazy thing is thinking Yuri lives to get two turns. ;-)

Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2) - Lenna does that Lenna thing.
Tiz Arrior (Bravely Default)* (2-1) vs Virginia Maxwell (Wild ARMs 3)* (1-2) - Ginny's status needs multiple turns to pan out. Tiz -barely- misses a OHKO on her, but that means he 2HKOs and Virginia also needs to spend turns casting Status Lock to not explode to Stop herself. Honestly, I feel she can't really deal with the pressure.
Ghaleon (Lunar: Silver Star Story) (1-2) vs Luther Lansfeld (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time) (0-3) - lulz

Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) (2-1) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) (3-0) - The way I take Absorb, Yunalesca 3HKOs Isolde... which is probably enough, she has over double Isolde's effective durability.
Peach Toadstool (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)* (2-1) vs Labyrinthia Wordsworth (Wild ARMs XF)* (2-1) - Mute makes Labby sadface.
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1) - sure

Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (1-2) vs Alternis Dim (Bravely Default) (1-2) - Dear lord.
Jade (Breath of Fire) (2-1) vs Cidolfas Orlandu (Final Fantasy Tactics) (1-2) - Not really sure this -quite- pans out even with allowing equips I don't. Cid gives up a lot of offense, hits a bad defensive stat that makes his healing suck and probably bites it to a crit or his low-HP damage boost.
Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2) - Yeah. Arceus has to keep attacking Maxim to not run into status and a double won't come fast enough. And attacking means he's ramming into a deadly IP...

Miakis (Suikoden V)* (1-2) vs Captain Crow (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (0-3) - Durability isn't really Miakis' strong suit regardless.
Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) (0-3) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)*  (2-1) - Ragu does his Ragu thing.
Claude C. Kenni (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1) - Evade setup, sure.
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)* (2-1) - Defense tank against top-of-the-line ITD. Yup.

Ramza Beoulve (Final Fantasy Tactics)* (3-0) vs Dheginsea (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) (1-2)- I'd vote DL Ramza over Dheggy, let alone this setup.
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V)* (3-0) vs Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) (1-2)

Yunalesca (Final Fantasy X) (2-1) vs Isolde Schelling (Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis) (3-0)
Ryu (Breath of Fire IV) (1-2) vs Millenia (Grandia II)* (2-1)

Empyrea (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King) (1-2) vs  Alternis Dim (Bravely Default) (1-2)- *Wince*
Jade (Breath of Fire) (2-1) vs Cidolfas Orlandu (Final Fantasy Tactics) (1-2)
Arceus (Pokémon) (3-0) vs Maxim (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals)* (1-2)

Yuri Hyuga (Shadow Hearts) (0-3) vs Citan Uzuki (Xenogears)*  (2-1)
Claude C. Kenny (Star Ocean: The Second Story)* (2-1) vs Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII)* (2-1)- Evade.
Edward 'Edge' Geraldine (Final Fantasy IV)* (1-2) vs Yuffie Kisaragi (Final Fantasy VII)* (2-1)- Check please.
