The place: the Boston Greater Metropolitan Area
The time: Wednesday, July 26 through Sunday, July 30
The stuff to do: chillax in Harvard Square (mandatory), do Touristy stuff like the Freedom Trail and Fanuel Hall, visit arcades, drive out into the country to see teh nature and eat teh ice cream, pretend we're cultured and take in some classical/baroque concerts, go to a Sox game and drink beeah in tha bleechahs, visit the museums of fine arts or science, etc.
The cost: we'll be renting a house, and depending on what we need in terms of size, it should be somewhere between $600 (we can dream, right?) and $1,000 per night.
So who's in?
p.s. Gref, sorry brah. Maybe we can work out something smaller in August?

What airport should we be flying in to?
Also, in.
Also also, pretending we're going to do much beyond sit around and play games and chat like the pile of introverts we are. Cute. :V
-
Logan airport in Boston. Accept no substitutes.
-
Need to see the schedule at work. Miki: Is driving in Boston worse than DC? I'll probably drive the Jeep up if I go.
-
Put me down as a tentative confirm. I have to go to Boston already once this year for a pair of friends' wedding, and if I can see them a second time, that'd be fantastic.
I'll be more sure in, uh, June. But it being coincidentally the same area is some of the best news I've heard all year.
-
Tentative confirm, probable Car as well.
Anyone who is in the New York area, or possibly may be flying into New York for whatever reason (cheaper/more convenient flight?), I am absolutely willing to carpool up there if you want. Hit me up if you are interested.
-
Count me in, tentative 75% pending costs.
Might I add Haymarket to the list to acquire cheap groceries? Also, no museum will have a free day at those times, but they do have some great outdoor screenings? And I'd like to add Veggie Galaxy to any vegetarian/vegan's list of places to eat, esp. if Cambridge is a thing.

Not gonna be able to come. Apologies.
-
Soft maybe.
Need to figure out kid-related things and finances. I'm in the middle of interviewing for jobs that would pay me enough that it would be feasible, but, well, see: interviews.
Also if kid does end up having to come with us we will be staying in a hotel, not the house, for everyone's sanity.
ETA: Also should mention that if kid does come along, chances are really, really high we'll be doing more of the tourist-y stuff than we otherwise would. That said, neither I nor Andrew has been to Boston before and we'd want to explore some anyway.

I want to secure a place for the con in the next week or two but the number of people it will need to accommodate is a gigantic question mark, so if you haven't responded yet, please do, even if it's an ambiguous answer.
-
Probably not this year. Have fun though!
-
I can probably make it.
-
Long time, no post.
A summer trip to Boston is off the table for Shun and I this year, but we're looking forward to the next Dee Yell Con.
-
If you guys swing cheap tickets to Melbourne or Brisbane later in the year let me know. My current place is way pokier than the one I shared with Rat, but the offer is there on the table if the chance comes up (with the caveat that I will probably still be working etc etc and you know that I am a total shut in).
-
Most likely in.
-
I'm out , finances didn't work out this year.
-
I'm out, won't have the time this year.
-
Ok now that the forums are working again, please let me know what y'alls plans are. Right now I have 3 solid Ys and 6 or so maybes, and that's not really enough to go on to know how big an airbnb to rent.

I thought you were a fan of the series, wow dude. Also would have gone for MaybYs.
-
Still interviewing, still a maybe.
Also +1 Grefter

I'll have an answer first week of June, when I'm stateside.
-
I'll confirm, I should be good (barring unforeseen disaster).
-
Well, at this point I have to unconfirm, sadly.
Jenna was in a car accident(she's fine, just some bruising), and despite her not being at fault insurance isn't helping us much because the car was fucked beyond repair and we have to buy a new one. And the value they'll give us for our 12 year old car is....jack and shit. Don't really have the money to be going off to a con this year.
-
Good she's okay, wishes for a quick recovery and ease in the next steps.
I cannot make it, I now have an editorial session that fits half of this month and the end of next. shitty because I wanted to drive folks around in my new car and also see you all.
-
Put me down as a tentative yes.
-
It's June and we currently have 2 people (other than Nick and myself) confirmed. This is not enough people for a convention, and certainly not enough people to rent an airbnb on spec. So, to those who have confirmed and those who are still on the fence: do you still want to try for a meetup in Boston, or would you rather abandon the idea of doing one this summer (or at least this June)?
As a general note, I am happy to host people who want to make the trip up to Boston in small groups - as long as I'm in town I have a couch and can put one or two people up at a time.
Let me know your thoughts, thanks.
-
given I'm driving, I can come on the fly, if that makes sense...despite not actually flying <_<;
So might as well put me down as confirmed. I just don't know the full circumstances (I might take a bus if I don't want to drive but..."how" is less relevant at the moment.)
-
Is anymore people coming?
I am thinking on cancelling the trip is no one else is coming.
-
I have not heard from anyone else so I am assuming that there is simply not enough interest/availability this summer to have a DLCon.
-
Similar to Meeple, I am still cool with randomly going up to Boston to chill for a weekend for a mini-Con (pico-Con?), and if Niu wants to fly over as well, can certainly try and swing it so it's the same weekend. Sounds like it'd be more vanilla hotel style livin' than renting a house and having consoles & all though, since it'd be 3-6 people.
-
I really want to, if for no other reason than that I want to visit Boston and I don't want to break the chain of DLCon, but I'm still interviewing for jobs and it's not a good time for travel crossing time zones. :(
-
With no other people joining in, I am cancelling the trip.
