Making the writing boards public

With NR closing down (most likely for good), I wondered if there was any way to get people more interested in doing site work. We had a lot of people who are more casual about the DL do a lot of writeups for NR, largely because it was open access for all. Which lead me to the topic title, making the writing boards open to everyone.

It makes sense. Our nomination process is open, our season process is open, and anyone who wishes to write can ask me to join the staff. Making it public lets everyone take a crack at helping out- and we can always put a spoiler warning on the writer's boards for those who don't wish to see results ahead of time.

I dunno how much it would help mostly on the basis that people are pretty lazy. At worst, though, it widens the spectrum of people who can be whipped into writeup duty, which would help, methinks. Couldn't hurt to try.

I agree that it can't hurt. Anything to spread out writeups a little more would be awesome.

Sometimes I see a write-up in the Announcements section, and I get a taste of what's to come already.

And NR is closing? D'aww. Will something replace it?

Aww, Not ranked is closing. See why I fought to keep the characters I liked in the DL. They said "you can nominate them for not ranked." Well at least I got Paulette and Lena in NR once! (though I never got Mieu and Delma)

But yeah, I think the writing board should be made public. Less stress on the staff for write ups and stuff. And who knows, maybe on days I dont work 10 hours like today I could do a write up. (I either work all day or not at all)

EDIT to Alanna: Having so much obscure stuff is a lot of what killed NR. Compare this season to NR Season 1 back in  Fall 2004. I've bolded everyone who's been ranked since then.

Look at how many fighters from this pool have been ranked. Some o fthe other good draws (PC seph) don't really work on the on site version.  Later seasons were hit just as hard. SD3/FF1/Pokemon being ranked took a lot of NR's basic ability to draw (Can't use FFT generics for everything), we also have ranked some 20 odd games since I first started that tournament. It's just not needed for it's site purpose (Measuring draw) any more, and the age of having a half dozen games that could easily be ranked is over. It's time had passed.

Well, the only reason I can see that the writer's board is a secret is it keeps casual fans in suspense to what the season is until it gets started. If that's really a selling point. (Maybe we did it because BCB did it.) Since I'm the first person to mention it in a topic posted over a week ago, I'm going to say that's probably not a priority for us. Given that we generally prize our openness, we might as well take another step towards it.
