Vivi Ornitier (FF9) vs Sara (BoF1) - Noooooooooooooo dice, Vivi. Drain doesn't work and he gets heal-locked if he goes for straight healing.
Eileen (S1) vs Sania (AtLC) - Sania's MDef is pretty good... but Eileen's is even better, and Divide/XCryte cheese gets eaten by Copper Flesh. Eileen's stupid MDef makes status a poor choice as well, since those are borderline tinking for odds. Then, there's the rather notable speed difference.

Peco (BoF3) vs Jean (BoF2) - Peco damage is trash and he's not much faster than Jean if at all. Sleep blocker+ID only being resisted instead of immuned = lolpeco.

Checked this a few days ago, but S1 MDef doesn't appear to do anything against status (Even magical status).

I still default MDef against status if the stat in-game doesn't fail at life, so it doesn't matter enough to me (unless you manage to find -which- stat deals with MDef in S1, then I'll apply to that one). Plus, AtL2 status loathes MDef in-game anyway.

I assume you meant dealt with status instead of dealt with Mdef. I'm guessing either luck or it doesn't check a status. But 200 Magic Crowley got statused out by a magical status as often as people with 80 Magic. ATL 2 status loathes ATL 2 MDef, but S1 Mdef doesn't really do anything to status at all.

Snow's point (which I agree with) is that magical status gets defaulted to hitting MDef. Thus if you can't provide evidence of another stat (Luck) defending against status, it makes sense to use MDef, especially since that's the stat AtL2 status apparently checks. Giving AtL2 status a free pass against Suikoden 1 (which you seem to be proposing) makes no sense.

I don't really understand why we would default status that doesn't check anything in either game to checking Mdef. If neither side brings the dependency than I don't see a reason to claim that someone is innately weak/resistant to status when there is no real support for that in either side. I honestly don't think all that many games actually do use Mdef as a status resist stat (FFT, PS4... ?)

Thats not the case here, though. If a physical status checked physical defense I'd still use the target's pdef to modify the hit-rate, and I think most people would agree with me. Same case for magic here.

-Strong nonelemental magic
Against someone he can't status and can't wall with his high defense and many immunities/resistances, Virgil's a heavy, and not a very good one; Against even a low godlike like Lavos he's batting way above his league.

This goes on until Alice's terrible SP pool runs out.
230 Eileen (S1) vs 118 Sania (AtLC): Though I find the "default every status to hit MDef" thing really stupid, I do base status accuracy off of what the status hits, not off of what the target's status defense stat is. So Sania's status fails against anyone's high MDef, whether that MDef affected status in game or not.

Light:

67 Hawkeye (FE7) vs 76 Draggy (CC): Doubling's evil when used by CC characters. Draggy can go chain -> L5, get his double, then not end the double with a tech, circumventing the lag problem. A chain ended with a tech probably also doesn't trigger counters from anything but a hand axe.
