General Chat / Is there a computer wiz in the house?
« on: August 20, 2009, 11:37:28 PM »
Ok, so ever since I built my computer there's been this software problem. To start, I'm using Windows Vista 64bit. Ok, so the computer will boot up normally until it gets to the point where under normal circumstances it would load the welcome screen. The screen just goes black, then the computer will try and boot up again and I'll get an error message that says: "Windows could not start properly. A recent hardware or software change could have caused this problem. To fix the issue, please insert your Windows Installation CD and click on Repair Computer"

Then it gives me a bunch more options like starting in Safe Mode with the options of the Command Prompt or Networking.

Usually takes one or two of these before the computer will just boot normally for some reason, and then it works just fine. But I moved into my dorm room today and it's been an hour and it's still lnot working. I would blame the college network for screwing me up but like I said this has been around since I built the damn thing. I have started the computer in Safe Mode here successfully, though, so at least the basic stuff works. But I'm wits end what to do and I don't know if the college tech support can help me or not.

The first time this happened and it booted normally, it said there might be a problem with one of the chipset drivers. I believe it's for my processor but I'm not sure. Everytime I look at it in the Device Manager it says it's working just fine.

So...what should I do? Try and update my drivers? Reformat?

Writeup Graveyard / Tempest (vs. Aguro)
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:30:09 PM »
So some square-jawed jarhead thinks he can take on the best fighter in the region? Not a chance! Tempest's solid stats will be his main ticket to victory this week. Aguro being slow as molasses doesn't hurt either. He may take awhile to go down, sure, but it's not like Tempest is going to run out of arrows anytime soon, right? And as Aguro transforms from soldier into walking pincushion, Tempest will be easily able to handle anything Aguro throws his way. With nothing else to get in the way, Tempest should have little trouble whittling down Aguro while staying out of harm's way, and once the soldier reaches early retirement, he'll be ready for week 4!

Writeup Graveyard / Ice Queen Avril (vs. Souji)
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:24:38 PM »
Even though both contestants are new to the DL, there's plenty we know about them. Souji has incredible amounts of variety, while Ice Queen Avril is a straightforward boss battle. Luckily for Avril, that's all she needs. With her stat buffs, her magical and physical attacks will put quite the dent in Souji's HP. And while Souji does have plenty of SP, he will, at some point, run out. The ability to block both physical and magical attacks will keep Souji from inflicting much harm, and can easily frustrate a Mind/Power Charge strategy. And, of course, his status attacks will be ineffective. As the fight draws on, Avril only gains more abilities, while Souji will start running out of them. So while it will be a tough slugfest, Ice Queen Avril can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat...and take out a feared new opponent in the process.

Writeup Graveyard / Yuri (vs. Tibarn)
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:44:44 AM »
So Yuri's made it past eliminations. Big surprise! But can he really defeat one of the most powerful Laguz in the world? Of course! Yuri brings his usual repetoire of stat buffs, overwhelming physical and magical damage, full healing, and all sorts of fun little goodies that he can use effortlessly. Tibarn...brings the ability to grow feathers and poop on paper. I think you see where I'm going with this. Unfortunately for Tibarn he's entirely dependant on his good damage...but Yuri has roughly a million different ways of bringing the pain better than Tibarn ever could, AND heal whatever Tibarn throws his way. Yuri's fought many an illustrious opponent in Godlike, but Tibarn is just a bird-shaped road bump.

Writeup Graveyard / Shinji (vs Beatrice)
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:19:49 AM »
As a no good punk and persona user, Shinji probably would laugh at the first sight of his opponent. And after knowing how she fights, and her powerful abilities, he'd laugh even harder and kick her ass! Sure, she has some nice tricks up her sleeve, but that's not going to do her any good. Shinji's more of a straightforward slugger. With no glaring strengths or weaknesses, he'll have no complications to distract him from planting his axe as far into Beatric's forehead as it will go. A few axe strikes here, a few God Hands there, Beatrice will be in serious trouble before Shinji even breaks a sweat. Sleep? Don't be silly! There's no way a nightmare's gonna slow Shinjiro down long enough for Beatrice to have a chance beating him. Of course, should a Nightmare induce a quick nap, she'll be hard pressed to capitalize on the opportunity with Shinji's ability to soak up damage. So no matter what happens, Shinji has the advantage, and there's little chance he'll let the opportunity to make it to the semifinals slip by.

Writeup Graveyard / Flay (vs Lich)
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:08:02 AM »
Even the cruel, cold grasp of the undead cannot avoid the blinding warmth of JUSTICE! Flay's battle plan this time around is simple. With the heavy usage of drills, swords to the face, and maybe even a little bit of lightning, he'll quickly and efficently cut the oversized skeleton down to size. With no healing, status, or other distractions to get in the way, this will be a manly one on one, and who's better at handling evil slime than a hero of justice? Of course, Lich MIGHT get a few hits in, but Flay's more than up to taking a few blows in the name of dispensing punishment on evildoers. So take heed, DL! Flay's not done with Middle yet, and you might just be next on his list!

Writeup Graveyard / Milon (vs. Gobi)
« on: April 18, 2009, 03:28:00 AM »
Hey, look on the bright side, Gobi! Even if you are getting a whupping this week, at least you can claim you're more attractive than your opponent! Even with Milon's shortcomings in studliness, he can still take this match handily. On one hand, Gobi sucks. On the other hand, Gobi really sucks. Milon beats him in pretty much every category, from damage to the ability to take punishment to his skillset variety. Now, being better than Gobi at fighting isn't that much of an accomplishment, but hey, it's good enough to make it to Week 3, right? And really, it's not like Milon can expect much respect in Light anyway. So, all things considering, this match is pretty cut and dry. Congrats, Milon. Don't get your hopes up too high.

Writeup Graveyard / Fogel (vs. Clive)
« on: April 18, 2009, 03:21:53 AM »
The most powerful of the sky knight is back, and wouldn't you know it...he gets handed a free ticket to Week 3 on a silver platter. Clive hits pretty hard, but Fogel can take it. And take it. And take it some more. Not that he's going to need much of that durability, since Clive is slow as molasses. For all his heavy armor, Fogel himself doesn't have that problem and will run rings around his opponent. The fact that he can chop Clive into little bits with his massive attack helps too. Clive could try and build up FP...but it's not really going to do much for him here, and by the time he reaches the higher levels he'd be dead anyway. When you consider Fogel's speed advantage, his impressive durability, and his penchant for bringing the pain, it's obvious who you should vote for this week. (It's Fogel. Vote for Fogel.)

Writeup Graveyard / Ash (vs. Melfice)
« on: April 18, 2009, 03:15:47 AM »
The Horn of Valmar...whatever. It's not like Ash is any stranger to fighting peculiar demons. Melfice is pretty damn tough, and packs one hell of a punch...pity that Ash, as a Vandalier, can take more hits than a brick wall and does plenty of damage himself. Melfice's usual bag of tricks won't do much here, as Ash can shred through his HP before he can really get going. His array of various stat buffs, healing moves, and other magic abilities just gives him even more of an edge against Melfice. Even if Melfice lands a hit, and that's by no means a given considering Ash's evade, he'll have to get lucky more than once, and sooner or later, his luck will run out. Ash doesn't need luck, just the power of the Vandal Heart. And that's what's going to see him through this match, and all the matches to come.

Writeup Graveyard / Id (vs. Nel)
« on: February 21, 2009, 01:32:47 AM »
There's lots that can be said about Id. His massives speed advantage, for one, which will take the wind out of Nel's sails something fierce. His damage, for another, which can easily 2HKO his frail opponent, forcing her to either heal or die. His evasion, which will keep Nel from doing enough damage to take him out in time. His defense against magic attacks, which willl be helpful if Nel tries to stay away and try Symbology attacks. Or his own Ether attacks, to repay Nel with her own coin. And, of course, his HP score, which dwarfs that of his opponent. You can say all that and more, but why bother? The only thing you really need to say is that he's going to win.

Writeup Graveyard / Sunset vs. Regigigas (both)
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:01:34 PM »
Sunset isn't used to beating up weird monsters, but he's more than up to the task. Thanks to Regigigas's Slow Start ability, Sunset has plenty of turns to begin the fight with. And he'll use them all up beating the ever-loving crap out of his tanky but slow opponent. If he wants, he can wait until he can pull off a Hurricane Shot, or try using his less powerful moves over and over again. Either way, Regigigas will be dead before he can even really get started, and Sunset can handle a few attacks, especially with Slow Start also halving Regigigas's Attack. This fight will be so pathetic Sunset won't even have time to shake off the dust from the trail, and he'll saddle up and be on his way in no time.

---

Sunset may be a fearsome fighter, but Regigigas has him right where it counts. Even with Slow Start weighing him down, Regigigas can take as much punishment as he needs. And he may not need to take any. Why? Confuse Ray. With Sunset confused and likely hurting himself as much as anything, Regigigas can afford to be patient and take what blows come. If Sunset tries to charge up for one of his stronger techniques, he'll likely just wind up being confused anyway, and his faster skills are easily laughed at. After Slow Start wears off, he's more than up to the task of thrashing Sunset once and for all. With no other tricks up his sleeve, and a terrible defense, Sunset has nothing left after 5 turns. A few Mega Punches here, a Giga Impact to finish him off, and Regigigas moves on once again in NR.

Writeup Graveyard / Sunset vs. Regigigas (both)
« on: November 25, 2008, 01:35:17 AM »
Sunset's not used to fighting such bizzare monsters, considering his time period, but it can't be any worse than a gigantic villain with a gatling gun, can it? Regigigas is slow. Not only that, but his damage is terrible for 5 turns. That means that Sunset has all the time in the world to do whatever he wants. Hurricane shot should outright kill, if not seriously maim, his opponent, and while usually the 3 turns it takes to use make it useless, here it's exactly what he needs. Of course, Regigigas's paltry attacks are nothing to worry about, and there's nothing it can do to avoid a Hurricane Shot. Speaking of avoiding attacks, even if Regigigas manages to pile on the hurt, there's a good chance Sunset will evade at least some of it anyway! With all this in mind, Sunset definitely has the edge over his Poke opponent.

---
Regigigas isn't much of a gunslinger, but it doesn't matter. Sunset has no invulnerability to Confuse Ray, which will leave him helpless, and, more importantly, cause him to lose the advantage given by Slow Start. Regigigas's attacks, while weak, will still cut through Sunset's terrible defenses like a knife through butter, and his own natural tankiness can absorb punishment while he slowly whittles away at Sunset, should the cowboy break through Confuse. A few Mega Punches here and there, and he can use Giga Impact for a finisher and end the fight before Sunset can get off Hurricane Shot. And should the battle happen to last past 5 turns, Slow Start works to his advantage, and he can easily destroy the frail dueller. It might not be short, it might not be pretty, but Regigigas can win this fight, and with any luck, he will.

Writeup Graveyard / Boyd (vs. Jessica)
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:24:29 PM »
Not only is Boyd having to compete at the same as his brother, but this is also the first time any Path of Radiance characters compete in the DL. Talk about pressure! Luckily for Boyd, he has a pretty easy match this week. Jessica's great at healing...unfortunately that's all she's really good at, and that's not going to be enough. See, Boyd may or may not kill her in one blow, but if he doesn't Jessica's going to have to heal to avoid getting killed. And then Boyd will keep forcing her to heal until she runs out of MP. Regen's not going to be enough, either. This battle might take awhile, but Boyd should have plenty of Silver Axes around to help wear her down. And, of course, this is all assuming Boyd doesn't just get a critical sooner or later and turns her into vaguely white-mage shaped chunks. So relax Boyd, you've got a free ticket to week 3! Let's see if your brother can do the same...

Writeup Graveyard / Midboss (vs. Chisato)
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:15:59 PM »
Oh, dear. Back in the DL at last, and who does the Dark Adonis face? Why, Chisato Madison, of all people! Well, if there's one thing Vyers likes, it's a challenge! Midboss brings his usual repetoire of damaging skills and a mean physical game to the table, backed up by his HP and defenses. Chisato just doesn't have the damage. If she gets up close, she's going to be eating a lot of counters. If she tries to keep the distance, Midboss will simply reply in kind with his own techs, and his damage will quickly outpace hers. With no healing or other options, Chisato can only hope her Killer Moves are enough to give Vyers the boot. Not likely if she's eating a face full of fist every time she tries! Chisato finally got into Middle, but she's still fighting on Light's level, and it's up to Vyers himself to show her what the difference is.

Writeup Graveyard / Ayame (vs. Crono)
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:02:33 PM »
Ninja. Elegant, fast, and deadly. Crono's not bad himself, but can he really take on one of the mightiest types of warriors? Ayame has the power of the Shrike Rune, whose ability to dish out damage cannot be underestimated. Crono can do nothing to stop it, and he has no way of recovering his HP. In addition, his Lumanaire is resisted thanks to Ayame's skills, which leaves him little choice but to stick with Confuse or his basic attacks. Ayame should easily be able to avoid or repel some of his attacks, giving her the edge in both damage gived and damage received. Naturally, Crono's speed advantage is nullified here, so he can't even try to outmuscle his agile opponent. Of course, he can try to stick on a Swallow...and watch his damage become absolutely pathetic. So, tough luck this time, Crono, you're just plain outmatched!

Writeup Graveyard / Zidane(vs. Poco)
« on: October 11, 2008, 02:05:26 AM »
Here's all you need to know about this match: Zidane goes first. That's it, that's game right there. You see, Zidane has Soul Blade, and a huge variety of statuses. Mini, Sleep, Doom, Petrify...the list goes on. And with 100% accuracy, he can use any of them on his all-important first turn. And guess what, Zidane fans? Poco has no status immunity at all. This means that Zidane can leisurely use anything from his smorgasboard of status effects and have it hit, no problem. He can kill Poco while sleeping, awake, tiny(well, tinier than usual), a statue, whatever. Of course, even if by some miracle Poco does manage to get a turn before he dies, Zidane is more than capable of taking a few horn blasts to the face. And it only takes a few rounds of status to kill Poco, who, let's face it, is not well known for standing up well to damage. After sending the musican back to band practice, Zidane heads to the Middle Finals, where victory is certain. Just like in this week's match!

42
Writeup Graveyard / Menardi (vs. Maxim)
« on: September 27, 2008, 12:18:26 AM »
Her former Godlike perch coming ever closer, Menardi is more determined than ever to keep in the fight and defeat all her opponents. So he's immune to instant death, you say? That just means it's somewhat of a challenge. Sort of. Between Menardi's stat buffing, devastating physical attacks and magic, and everything else, there's no stopping her. Wave Motion, Brilliance, and all those other diminutive IP attacks are nothing more than fancy little tricks, a way to briefly delay the inevitable: Menardi's victory. The red-haired little twerp can wave his weapons around all he likes, but when it comes down to it, he just doesn't have enough determination to win, and soon Godlike will tremble like Middle and Heavy before them once Menardi tears her way through the rest of what Heavy has to offer!

43
Writeup Graveyard / Evil Gaia(vs. Asch)
« on: September 20, 2008, 12:13:42 AM »
Asch the Bloody...appropriate name! He's certaintly going to be wearing plenty of the red stuff after Evil Gaia's through with him! I mean, what can Asch do? Just do his crappy attacks over and over. Evil Gaia has Poizn, Howl, Burn...a gallery of mighty attacks that put Asch's puny attempts to shame. And let's not forget the massive, massive HP advantage that Evil Gaia enjoys, thanks to Asch falling over to a stiff breeze. Sleep won't work too well here, true, but the previously discussed advantages should be more than enough to put Evil Gaia on top. After all, in a Light like this, a true master of evil should prove his strength, right? There's no telling when Evil Gaia will stop, but it certaintly isn't going to be against this pasty redheaded loser!

44
Writeup Graveyard / Yukimaru (vs. Lucied)
« on: August 23, 2008, 01:40:51 AM »
Light's no match for this ninja! And it doesn't look like things are going to change anytime soon, either. Her opponent this time, Lucied, is simply outclassed. He has impressive physical defense, true, but Yukimaru has other options as well. And it's not like she's going to have to rush to kill him, anyway, as his offense is absolutely horrible. His HP isn't so great either, so her Ice-based skills are going to hurt. A lot. By the time she runs out of SP, she'll have a huge head start and can patiently chip away at him afterwards. Since there isn't much else Lucied can do besides his usual, piddling attacks, he just has to sit there and take it. Sooner or later, Lucied will simply roll over and die, granting Yukimaru yet another victory. It's still a long road to a Light championsihp, but with opponents like these, it's an easy one as well!

45
Writeup Graveyard / Tink (vs. Garland)
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:17:23 PM »
That Garland sure is scary. What with his armor, his threats of knocking down, and his ability to stand up to a few level 1 Light Warriors for a couple rounds, he's nothing to scoff at. Luckily, Tink is more than up to the challenge! After unleashing his more evil side, Tink will quickly press the assault, hoping to keep Garland from getting too many turns in. Considering Garland's offense is pretty lacking, Tink can hopefully last long enough to finish the fight. Garland's defense isn't that great either, so Tink's attacks will do plenty of damage. In any slugfest of titantic porportions like this, there is some uncertaintly in who will emerge victorious and who will emerge as a corpse. But with the power of the alimghty amphibians on his side, Tink has all he needs to make sure that Garland won't walk away from this match!

46
Writeup Graveyard / La Ilim (vs. Guard Dhaos)
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:11:32 PM »
The man with the magic loogie, friend to undead dragons everywhere, Evil Gaia's brother from another mother. La-Ilim goes by many things, and he's going to be adding "NR Champion" to that list very soon! Guard Dhaos is no slouch, that much is true...but La-Ilim's faced worse. With the alimghty power of his invincible Crystal Skull, his almighty magic, and of course his ability to take tons of punishment, La-Ilim will laugh at anything Dhaos can throw at him. Of course, Guard Dhaos's status immunity will make things difficult, but since when has odds ever been a factor to the power of evil? Never, of course! Victory will be taken from the weak, and Guard Dhaos unfortunately will find himself in that category, as La-Ilim is far more than he or anyone else in this diminutive NR field can handle!

47
Writeup Graveyard / Akihiko (vs. Kite)
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:01:37 PM »
Oh, please. Like some pasty-faced MMORPG nerd's going to take down the captain of the boxing team? This isn't some sort of fantasy...uhh..nevermind. Anyway, Akihiko's got this in the bag. Having his Zio skills resisted is annoying, sure, but Akihiko is more than able to let his fists do the talking. Add in his full healing, and a few stat-downs or too, and Aki will be in control of the fight the entire time. While physical attacks will take a bit longer to beat Kite, a few crits here and there will surely help move things along, and Aki's endurance will be more than enough to see him through. Whether in the boxing ring or in NR, Akihiko has proven he can go in and win, no matter what. There's no way that some .Hack punk is going to change that.

48
Writeup Graveyard / Paine (vs. Alice)
« on: April 25, 2008, 10:16:56 PM »
Paine's been doing quite well, considering her absence from the DL. Surely she can continue her streak against a frail young woman like Alice, yes? Alice has plenty of MP for healing, but sadly lacks durability. Paine should easily be able to keep her healing away with Assault. Luckily, instead of being a long, long struggle, Alice's low SP should ensure that before too long she enters Beserk state. With this debilitating status, Paine can quickly seize the advantage and deal a finishing blow to the unawares Alice. With this strategy in mind, anything else Alice can do becomes fairly moot, as she won't have much time to attack, stat buff, etc. Things have been going smoothly so far, and it seems highly unlike that Alice will get in the way of Paine's trip to the Middle Finals!

49
Writeup Graveyard / Roland (vs. Paine)
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:42:59 AM »
As far as facing down Demons or angry ladies goes, I'm sure Roland would prefer the cannibalistic monsters anyday. But you can't help who you fight in a duel, so he'll just have to deal with it. Roland's not going to have much to fear from Paine, offensively, since he can fully heal quite cheaply and easly. And Ziodyne, among other things, will do quite a number on Paine's HP. And since really all Paine has is Assault and some other Dark Knight things, Roland should do quite nicely. A few Ziodynes here, a few Diarama's there, Roland should have this all wrapped up nice and quick. Which, of course, is probably the best way to handle issues with girls in the first place.

50
Writeup Graveyard / Sync (vs. Articuno)
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:34:48 AM »
Giant blue bird or not, Articuno is a deadly opponent, and Sync knows it. He'll have to give it all he has to take on this overgrown pigeon, but never fear, Sync is more than able to handle this fight! Sync will try to close the distance as soon as possible and start pummeling the Pokemon with his fists. Agility will make the speed game...'interesting', but hopefully by the time Articuno can fully utilize it he'll already be seriously hurting, and Sync will be getting ready to unleash his Mystic Arte. Akashic Torment cannot be underestimated, and Sync will do his very best to access it as quick as possible to keep Articuno from buffing his speed too far. Otherwise, this battle comes down to a slugfest between two powerful opponents. Never fear, however, as one of the better God Generals should be more than able to take on this particular fight!
