The bestest pizza toppings tourney: Nominations
« on: June 30, 2017, 06:18:18 AM »
Decided to try out running a multipart tourney for the first time and this silly idea emerged.  Loosely inspired by the music tourney and seeing such a wide variety of tastes, my train of thought turned to what else do people have a wide variety of tastes and preferences about and this crazy thing was born.  While it's more about sharing and less about winning, heh, my sense of humor is bent.

Nomination guidelines:

- Up to four noms per person.  Noms can be individual toppings or combinations, both are valid.

- Real world foodstuffs only.  I'm not going to be too rigorous about this but obviously fictional food items such at the power pizza from Turtles in Time or Slime Jelly from Star Ocean 2 will be ignored.  Any substance intended as poison or a weapon is naturally out (example: poisoned rice ala Tenchu).

- It's totally OK to nominate something that hasn't appeared on pizza sold in the real world.  If someone does feel called to nominate terriyaki pizza, I'd include it.

- Cheese and tomato sauce are assumed unless stated otherwise.

- You may include any number of extra suggestions.  I'll dig into those if I'm looking for more entries to make a nice round number for a tourney.

-UPDATE  Noms close at midnight July 18 on the board clock.  There's a chance I'll include something from a late entry due to real life delays in setting up brackets but no promises.

- Fresh goat cheese + fig

Initially stated deadline has come and gone while I wasn't paying attention.  I'll leave this open for another week to see what rolls in.  Midnight of 18th on the board clock will be the cutoff time from which I'll assemble the pools.

The small number of noms is to induce selecting your personal favorites.  It's meant as a bare bones  guideline . But really, anything goes.  The only consequence of a joke selection is using up one of a limited number of slots.  (note to OK: your noms are good to go, no changes needed)

My noms: Sir Akex nommed two of my favorites already (pineapple and mushrooms).  So going with unique picks...

- Canadian bacon
- garlic chicken and onion
- cheeseless Hawaiian
- green pepper
(to be filled in later)

Gonna go all combinations.

Sausage, Green Pepper, and Onion.  If a pizza joint fucks this up, never go back.

White Pizza with Pesto, Shrimp, and Tomatos (a specialty of a place near where I lived in Brooklyn. strangely all of their other pizza topping were kinda bad, but this? this was always amazing.)

Batter Fried Eggplant.  Try it!

Pepperoni and Mushroom.  This also on the basis of a pizza joint in New York near where I used to work.  The spicy grease from the pepperoni soaks into the mushrooms.  So good.

Bullwinkle: A-bomb is what some people call our show!
Rocky: I don't think that's very funny...
Bullwinkle: Neither do they, apparently!

- Pepperoni. It's a classic for a reason.
- Beef, onions and green peppers. Works well and tastes good.
- Steak and onions. A close relative to two, a local place does a great steak and onion pizza, ala a cheesesteak.
- Sausage. Good Italian sausage, not chain stuff.

White pears in general - highly recommend this, but do select the type of pear that has the texture matching with rest of the toppings.

Sun dried tomato

White fish in general

Goat cheese - Also highly recommended, if you can stand the smell.

Combos
Chicken + Onion: gives a great savory crunch without being super heavily seasoned like pep/sausage usually are. Both fine on thier own, but better together.

Pepperoni + black olives: I'm not a fan, but it's my mom and sister's go to for pizza.

Margherita: the classic mozz, basil and tomatoes. So very good, esp for a non-meat option.

Single Ingredients
Sweet cherry peppers: goes especially well on a bbq chicken pizza, but can combo with just about anything.
