Writeup Graveyard / Kain (vs Renualt)
« on: April 23, 2010, 09:57:44 PM »
The legendary dragoon Kain faces a new foe this week, the Bishop Renualt. The battle will be one of spears vs magic, a classical battle. What Kain has as an advantage is his powerful Jump ability, able to leap high, avoid Renualt's attacks and pounce with devastating strikes. These will leave Renualt on the defensive for the entire battle, enduring Jumps while trying to land his own offensive.  With the odds stacked in Kain's favor, it's not surprising that Renualt will fall and pave the way to the next round.

Cthulhu Saves the World, Wild ARMs 3, and Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace:

Okay, most of us know the drill so I'm not gonna drag this out. In short: I put a list of characters out and you rate them from 0-10, using only whole numbers. No decimals, weird entries, computer talk or what have you. These make me a very sad counter who goes through his supply of Pepto-Bismol faster than usual. This is fundamentally a ranking of worth, how you determine this is up to you. Just be honest and don't vote too high or too low to 'make up' for votes you disagree with. Each session will have one classic game and one newer generation game to ensure a mix of old and new voters.

Feel free to do writein votes if you care to; if a writein gets more than 1/3rd of the vote I'll include into the final tally. Feel free to DNR as well;  if a character gets DNRs for more than 1/3rd of the vote they'll be given a DNR.

Classic Game:

Edgar
Sabin

Discussion / Rate the characters again?
« on: April 12, 2010, 03:36:17 AM »
We've had a lot of topics on Discussion, ranging the gamut to rating the bad guys, rating in game use, rating the plot and what have you. What we haven't had in years and years is a rate the characters topic, a big old one like we used to have. Is there any interest in doing one of these again? I figure we have enough new people and enough time has passed to make it interesting.

Writeup Graveyard / Palmer (vs Tal)
« on: March 06, 2010, 02:47:27 AM »
Glee! It's time to pay the piper for Palmer's benefit! Time to beat up an uppity Knight of Razril to pay the lard bill! Palmer's rip-raring to go at this, ready to fire his allegedly potent Mako Gun at full blast! So it's time for Palmer to dance around like he's having a good old time while blasting Tal away! Sure, Tal has a sword and some lightning magic. But what can it compare to a Mako Gun? Guns beat swords and surely Palmer's Mako Gun can outdo some silly rune! This is going to be a slam dunk, a home run, an easy touchdown for Palmer! What can possibly go wrong? There's not even a truck to slow the big man down now!

Discussion / Fast-food rankings!
« on: February 20, 2010, 06:40:42 AM »
It sounds like an awesome idea at 1 30 AM, so why not? Format's simple rate the fast food chain on a scale of 0 to 10, the higher the better. Please stick to whole numbers or .5 at most, don't get all numerically funky on me.  Rate each entry on how much you like them, it's that simple.

Writeup Graveyard / Fou-Lu (vs GADES)
« on: November 21, 2009, 03:39:15 AM »
So it has come to this. The Endless Fou-Lu has wasted his time with many a worthless opponent in his day. Most cannot claim to reckon to the power of the Endless, but before Fou-Lu is a self called God, the Sinistral Gades. Can a God give a God a good challenge? Perhaps he can hit hard. Perhaps he can injure Fou-Lu, but what hubris allows Gades to think he can challenge the Emperor? God or not, none can oppose a dragon. Power undreamed of by others will smite Gades, scattering his energy apart to the four winds. With his superb physical defense to bolster him as Gades is pummeled, Fou-Lu will show Gades who is in charge and who is a true God, all while heading along towards another championship.

Discussion / The fate of the DC sniper
« on: November 10, 2009, 05:34:32 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/09/scotus.sniper/index.html

The Supreme Court rejected John Allen Muhammed's death row appeal. Short of the governor granting clemency, Muhammed dies tomorrow evening. How do you feel about this? Why?

Writeup Graveyard / Landis (vs Dekar)
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:03:48 PM »
Like, hehehehehehehehehehehhehe! It looks like some musclebound oaf wants to be scared bad! Oh, Landis can provide! Oh yes, Landis knows about dealing with musclebound oafs! It's time to put the scythe to work and pound down Dekar good! In a match like this, it's about the stats and the scariness. On the first count, Landis has the easy edge. With his boosting Blood Armor, he's much faster than Dekar could dream of and can dodge more. It's not even a contest. As for scariness? Dekar's an idiot with a big sword. Landis has a SCYTHE and is DARK. How can Dekar compete with that? He can't! He'll get scared and run off, all while Landis pounds him from Middle down to Light.

Writeup Graveyard / Dhoulmagus (vs Brahms)
« on: October 16, 2009, 10:58:33 PM »
Comedy clashes with gothic horror! The jester Dhoulmagus is going against the dreadful Lord of the Undead, Brahms! With this terrible battle in the offings, what place is there for humor?! It's a pity, such a pity! Dhoulmagus will have to fix this and fix it fast! He'll need to bring all his tricks to the table this time! In particular, all of his magical tricks! For the Lord of the Undead simply can't take much magic. Dhoulmagus will have to throw fire and ice, wings and tentacles to put Brahms down! But the important thing is - he can do it. Even if he takes a Bloody Curse, he can endure, shift into his true form, and promptly lay Brahms out for the win.

Discussion / Right to bear arms?
« on: October 16, 2009, 07:51:57 PM »
What sort of rights do you think people should have to owning guns and why? Don't worry about the laws here, just what you think should be the standard.

37
Writeup Graveyard / Vormav (vs oh hey I suck Baals)
« on: September 11, 2009, 04:18:02 PM »
Was one not enough? It seems the sacrifice of Anna was not enough to resurrect the Bloody Angel. So thus Vormav must proceed on to his next victim. Perhaps an egotistical tyrant will be enough to stir Altima into this world. For Vormav will fall on him like a meteorite from above, shattering his gear into bits and laying him low. He will endure all Baal has, his shield mighty and protective to ensure proper evasion. Ragnarok will slide between Baal's ribs, offering up a second sacrifice to the Bloody Angel as all of Baal's tricks come to naught. May this victory be enough, for it not, Vormav's rampage will continue unabated.

38
Writeup Graveyard / Vinsfeld (vs Edward)
« on: September 11, 2009, 04:14:27 PM »
It's time for Edward to incur the wrath of Vinsfeld! Having dispatched one impure foe already, a mere bard is going to do little to slow down Vinsfeld. For he fights for PURE IDEALS and for a better tomorrow for all of Filgaia! A cowardly musician should be composing ballads to his glory, not trying to stop his quest! For this grievous miscalculation in judgment, Edward must pay. He can try to run and hide but it will come to little, for when he emerges the dreadful wrath of Vinsfeld will shred Edward into tiny little bits. What can he do to oppose it, sing a song? Hah! Nothing that can compare to the PURE IDEALS that power Vinsfeld! Victory is all but assured.

39
Writeup Graveyard / Vormav (vs Anna)
« on: August 28, 2009, 04:34:07 PM »
How many lie dead at the hands of Vormav? The knights of Riovanes castle, Izlude and far many more. Now some whelp of a girl with a samurai sword thinks she can stop Vormav? Hah! The reality of the situation will be hard and deadly to the young maiden, for Vormav will not hold back his wrath. The power of his Mighty Sword will crush Anna's equipment into dust. Her vaunted sword will snap into two, her armor will break into shards that pierce her heart. Anna will attempt to survive this with speed and trickery, but what value are these against the overwhelming might a Divine Knight and Lucavi possesses? Not very much, as Anna is broken, shattered and just another body at Vormav's feet.

40
Writeup Graveyard / Piastol (vs Celes)
« on: August 28, 2009, 04:25:22 PM »
Once again the terror of Piastol is sweeping over the RPGDL! None shall stand in her path, no matter how powerful or how resourceful. Celes is a prime example of this; for she can bring much to the table. Yet none of it will matter in the face of Piastol's overwhelming offense. Eternum will blow her away, as will Tempest Dance. High defenses and blistering speed will leave Celes outpaced and ineffective on top of it, forced into a corner and beaten down. What can Runic and tricky magic do against this level of power? Not much, not much at all. The result is a foregone conclusion, sadly for Celes. Piastol advances on.

Discussion / Rate the bad guys! (Spoilers, duh.)
« on: July 01, 2009, 04:58:02 PM »
This is like the various old rating topics. I give you a list of bad guys and you rate them from 1 to 10, with one being shit and ten being awesome incarnate. You then say why and debate ensues. It's a simple format that makes for good discussion! When time has passed(Probably a week, maybe a little more or less),  I'll total them up, post the results and rankings and then throw out a new batch.

Also, feel free to make writeins if I miss anyone obvious or popular.

Writeup Graveyard / Asellus (vs Angelo)
« on: June 13, 2009, 01:28:31 AM »
The Mystic Princess Asellus is looking ahead. With one match down, only three more foes stand between her and a Heavy championship. Her next obstacle is Angelo, a well accomplished fencing healer. To beat him she'll need to tap into the powerful magic in her blood and her inhuman heritage. Transforming into a full mystic will unlock all of her powerful Mystic skills and empower her abilities. With skills such as GriffithScratch and Assassinate, Asellus will mount a blistering offense. Compared to this, Angelo's more defensive, healing based strategies will fizzle out and be unable to keep up with all the damage. Once it begins Angelo's fate is sealed, sending him down to a loss and propelling Asellus deeper into Heavy.

43
Writeup Graveyard / Gijimu (vs Muppy)
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:50:53 PM »
Well, now Gijimu's seen it all. The hearty, axe slinging bandit has dealt with his fair share of problems through the years.  Monsters, wars, Tinto; Gijimu is seasoned as a military veteran. Yet this is new! What the heck is it? A blob? A pot? A blob with a pot around it? Who knows? It also doesn't matter! Gijimu is willing to step up and deal with what needs dealing with! Against Muppy he's going to keep it simple. He has only one plan, but it's a good one. Hit, hit, hit and hit Muppy some more! With his Double Beat rune, he'll smash Muppy's face in faster than flaming projectiles can down him. Thanks to a Fire Emblem accessory, Muppy's damage will be reduced further, making this a rather one sides, if bizarre, fight.

44
Writeup Graveyard / Yuri (vs Guv)
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:46:44 PM »
Guv commands monsters. That's nice. It's also nothing compared to the pure power Yuri wields. By fusing with them, the Harmonixer gains power far beyond the comprehension of even other video game heroes. He becomes the monsters, adding his own power into it to become absolutely transcendent.  Calling on the power of Amon and the Seraphic Radiance, Yuri will do battle against Guv's hordes. Yet what hope can Call Team have against the power of the defender of the planet? For the Children will obliterate anything Guv can throw out. No healing spell will keep up with Yuri's decimation and no attacks will deplete his overwhelming endurance.  Guv can buy time with his hordes of tamed monsters, but time won't last forever. Yuri will.

45
Writeup Graveyard / Pamela (vs Worker 8)
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:36:15 PM »
It's a scary time to be a ghost girl! As if all of her adventurers with Vayne and friends weren't hard enough, now a giant robot is coming after Pamela! Oh no, this won't do at all! Worker 8 is nothing but a big bully, using his magic immunity to boss around innocent mages! He's coming at Pamela now and someone has to stand up to this! Someone has to say one thing: NO BULLYING! She's going to hit the mean mecha with all she has! Further, she has all her friends she can call on! The trick to beating a bully like this is the power of friendship, and Pamela can do a whole lot of this! Worker 8 will be stopped and Pamela will advance on!

46
Writeup Graveyard / Pamela Ibis (vs Alhazad)
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:25:26 PM »
What's scarier than a Metal Demon? A ghost, of course! Pamela is one of the strongest duelers in Heavy, not to mention a real 'live' ghost! Alhazad would be correct to be afraid of her, for she's capable of bringing immense pain to anyone who crosses her! Plus, if there's one thing Pamela can't stand, it's a bully! No bullies allowed! No bullying! When that nasty Metal Demon tries that and hurting her, he's going to be in for a world of hurt thanks to Pamela's No Bullying special. Even if the match gets closer, Alhazad will be blown away with that in one overwhelming swoop.

47
Writeup Graveyard / Gobi (vs Milon)
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:06:06 AM »
Sure, he's a fish. Sure, he's more of a merchant than a hero. But Gobi can still swing a mean spear! Against a feeble fiend such as Milon, that will be enough. Milon is not known for his power at all. Oh no, he has weak lightning magic and poison gas. For a fish who knows how to fight out of water, this isn't hard to deal with at all. He's going to cut through the zombies, spear past the skeletons and work his way to the undead mastermind! There he'll endure the Fiend of Earth's assault and impale him over and over with his trident! Despite all the death and magic Milon commands, he can't save himself from a complete beat down. He just doesn't have the firepower needed to keep up, and that ends that.

48
Writeup Graveyard / Borus (vs Odessa Silverberg)
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:03:30 AM »
Borus is not a hero. Not in his own mind, where he sees himself in far darker light than everyone else in Zexen does. On the other hand, Odessa is a revolutionary hero and martyr.  She died fighting a corrupt empire and inspired real change for the better. When the two meet, one could see it as a battle against realism vs idealism. Let me tell you, idealism is fine, but it fails when it hits the brutal realities of life. Like Odessa found out before, a sword is a sword no matter how you decry it. Borus will attack her, hurt her and critical hit her down. While she can stall and get in some hits of her own, she can't compete with the realistic, overwhelming pain Borus can dish out. No ideas can stop this slaughter.

49
Writeup Graveyard / Cagnazzo (vs Rico)
« on: April 18, 2009, 05:00:42 AM »
The waves of the ocean consume everything. The inevitable ebb and flow of water is the greatest force on Earth. Nothing can withstand it's eternal hunger forever; Rico is no exception to this rule. In this match, Rico is like a mountain. He is strong, slow and hits hard. Cagnazzo is the water. A single Tidal Wave will not take down the giant, but a steady stream of them will erode him into nothingness. Cagnazzo's powerful healing, defenses and waves will whittle down Rico despite his best Deathblows. It's not a hard thing, only the inevitable flow of Mother Nature. Nothing can withstand water and the tides forever, not even Rico.

50
Writeup Graveyard / Gordon (vs Palom)
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:58:09 AM »
The Hero has returned! Captain Gordon has beamed back down to take the DL by storm! He's going to prove how powerful a superhero can be, no matter what foe is in his way. Certainly, it may be seen as unheroic to have to take down an ordinary child, but Palom isn't ordinary! He throws around powerful black magic  with a terrifying speed and aptitude! Indeed, he fights like a demon! Captain Gordon will have to call on all of his skill with firearms to counter those threats! For each pillar of fire, he must shoot enough to make a wind to blow out the flames! For each bio-virus, he must aim so precisely as to destroy microbes! But fear now, for Captain Gordon, DEFENDER OF EARTH, is up to the challenge!
