Discussion / Who are you planning to vote for? (US presidential election)
« on: September 08, 2012, 07:30:41 PM »
With the US election coming up, I'm curious to how the DL plans on voting and why. Feel free to do so even if you're not part of the US.

Discussion / Issues Poll 4: Alcohol and the legal drinking age
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:42:54 PM »
Yes, strongly. It's needed.    - 4 (19%)
Yes, weakly. It's needed, but...    - 6 (28.6%)
Neutral.    - 6 (28.6%)
No, weakly. It's not needed, but...    - 3 (14.3%)
No, strongly. It's not needed.    - 2 (9.5%)

The DL's fairly split on affirmative action. This one doesn't surprise me, as it's a thorny issue that can have a personal, changing impact. This issue had a lot more variance than the others - it's interesting to see how strongly pro-choice the DL was, and thus falling towards the left - and how other issues are coming back as more balanced.

Today's issue is the legal drinking age. It varies across the world and no one really agrees on it. What do you guys think?

Discussion / Issues Poll 3: Affirmative Action
« on: May 31, 2011, 05:26:43 AM »
No gun control at all.    - 0 (0%)
Minimal gun control - minor safeguards and keeping the worst things out of circulation.    - 3 (9.1%)
Moderate gun control - background checks, strong regulation, no automatic weapons.    - 23 (69.7%)
Strong gun control - most things banned or heavily regulated.    - 6 (18.2%)
Gun ban.    - 1 (3%)

This one hit exactly where I thought it would. There's a lot of middle standers with a few lumps on the sides and almost no extremists. It's interesting how gun control has become less of a hot button issue the last several years, at least in my eyes. This is reflected here rather well.  I'd call this result centrist; gun control is an issue with a lot of room for wiggling and variance.

Anyway, this issue is a little spicier, since gun control felt like it didn't spark anything interesting. Again, feel free to post why you feel you do and why you voted as you did. Again, this is another US-centric issue, though foreign views are welcome.

Discussion / Issues Poll 2: Gun Control
« on: May 21, 2011, 09:21:32 PM »
Final results of the last poll:

I am pro life.    - 4 (10.5%)
I am pro choice.    - 32 (84.2%)
I am undecided.    - 0 (0%)
Other (Elaborate)    - 2 (5.3%)

A little more lefty than I expected from the DL, but no great deviation. I wonder if it's a trend or just this one issue that skews that far?  Anyway, let's do a less controversial issue this time. This one is specifically related to the US; the majority of the DL is from there. Feel free to chime in with foreign views, though! Again, feel free to vote and explain your position.

Bear in mind the poll choices are approximations, there's a lot of gradients to gun control so just grab which you feel fits you best.

Discussion / Issues Poll 1 - Abortion
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:47:44 PM »
I've been wanting to see how the DL samples on various hot button issues. I'm figuring I'll do one of these polls a week, tally up how various DLers come down politically, issue by issue. It's a small pet project I've been wanting to do for awhile, so why not start now? Anyway, once you vote, feel free to post and explain your vote and position and discuss.

Abortion is a highly charged issue, so please use common sense and respect.

General Chat / How do you like your steak?
« on: October 31, 2010, 03:19:08 AM »
I got into an argument at work about this, so I figured why not ask here? I don't like steak, but when I do eat it, I prefer it well done.

Writeup Graveyard / Songi (vs Camella)
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:38:05 AM »
GENOCIDE CANNON! The overwhelming, awe-inspiring and ultimately devastating blast is known far and wide across the DL. Entire games live in terror of Songi unleashing his massive cannon on their friends and loved ones, such is it's destructive power. This week Cameela is the unfortunate target; the nightmare has come true. Songi will blast her will all his vigor, vaporizing any who get in his way, including Cameela. If she's lucky there will be enough of her for a burial. If not, well, dust in the wind and Songi boldly advances in his quest for a championship!

Writeup Graveyard / L'arachel (vs Humphrey)
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:22:57 AM »
My, my, my! Would you look at this! A demure woman being confronted with an armored, silent brute of a man! In combat, no less! This deplorable state of affairs can only end one way: Extreme Anima magic blasting away all that oppose L'arachel! Her formidable talents will be put to blasting Humphrey on the spot, no matter how unreasonably tough he is! With her power, it doesn't matter how strong Humphrey is! He'll be blasted away like so many heavy knights and generals, sent to the scrap heap of the season as L'arachel advances onward through Middle!

Writeup Graveyard / Hrist (vs Momo)
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:04:50 AM »
What is this? A noble Valkyrie is challenged by garish machinery made by a mortal girl? This madness is meaningless to Hrist! Momo only gets in the way, knowing not what she opposes. Her fate is sealed at the hands of Hrist; her powerful martial skills will shred Momo no matter what healing or earth magic she unleashes. A steady, unending rain of abuse will  bowl her over. After her soul will be claimed for Valhalla, for no matter what worthy warriors must be provided. It's only a matter of time  until Momo succumbs and that will be the end of that.

Writeup Graveyard / Rhapthrone (vs Lenneth)
« on: June 18, 2010, 09:12:16 PM »
The jolly fat lord of evil against the Goddess of Creation!? What a cataclysmic battle, one that will shake the DL to it's foundations! To weather such a storm the full brunt of Rhapthorne's powers will come into play. He won't hold anything back, powerful magic aimed to lay Lenneth low before the Glance Reviver can make it's bite felt. With his strong endurance and blitz of magic he can do just that, outlasting and outblasting even the extra-potent blade Lenneth carries. After all, why should he let Good win when Evil can instead?

Writeup Graveyard / Lucius (vs Funguy)
« on: June 12, 2010, 04:26:44 AM »
It's not really a dignified use for holy magic. Cleaning up a giant pile of fungus is really below Lucius' dignity, but no matter how frail and feminine, he can handle the job! Going against Funguy this week, Lucius can employ all the holy magic he has to offer to blast this mushroom into fine paste. After all, fungi can't stand light and it's nothing but a super-sized dose of that. This will eradicate Funguy before much of anything else comes into play. Lucius won't even get his nice robes bloodied up, a blitz of light magic will end it faster than you could slice Funguy up and put him on a pizza.

Writeup Graveyard / Leopold (vs Lady)
« on: June 12, 2010, 04:17:05 AM »
The canine staff wielder Leopold has come to wreck great havoc in the RPGDL! With his godlike powers and might, he is a far greater threat than a normal dog! This week he faces down the full might of Lady. The two powerful competitors go head to head in a magical duel of vast destruction, with the winner in doubt. That is, until you remember Leopold has the power of Rhapthorne behind him, ensuring an easy win against Lady's impressive but still not fully potent powers. Leopold's powerful attacks will drive her under fast and hard, ending this battle before it begins in earnest.

Writeup Graveyard / Leon (vs Jacques)
« on: June 10, 2010, 11:42:04 PM »
For a dumb mercenary, at least Jacques as the good sense to stay out of harm's way. Only complete ignoramuses go to fight something head on! On the other hand, he still doesn't have a chance since he's using his muscles, not his brain. Leon can pick that sort of opponent apart with his magic. Sure, arrows hurt, but what do they mean compared to spells like Extinction and Gremlin's Lair? Not a whole lot, that's what. Being the super genius he is, Leon can pile these spells on with a motor-sped mouth, blowing Jacques away before he can do anything pesky, like interrupt his spell casting. It's a direct magic blitz that will leave the crossbowman splayed out and quite completely defeated!

Writeup Graveyard / Balk (vs Sophia)
« on: June 10, 2010, 11:38:38 PM »
What? Some little girl is going to get into Balk's way? Ridiculous! Balk has ascended past mere humanity and is immortal now! What can some little waif of a girl with a staff do to him? Has she ever gotten her hands dirty? Hah! No, Balk knows how to deal with little troublemakers like that. What you do is you take your gun and aim right for the arm! Bang, one shot! While she's crying about her arm and unable to do anything, you finish her off at your leisure. It's brutal, it's mean and it's vicious, but you know what? It works. She can cast the greatest magic of all time, but it doesn't matter if she can't cast in the first place, does it?

20
Writeup Graveyard / Edgar (vs Slust)
« on: June 10, 2010, 11:34:09 PM »
Earth and sky, sand and air. The ruler of the desert realms comes face to face with a prince of the Sky Islands this week! Edgar versus Slust is a classic fight, sword against sword, technique against technique! Edgar, with his array of powerful tools, will penetrate Slust's armor like tissue paper. No mere defense can withstand Edgar's potent technological might, each one will hit Slust right where it hurts. Without his trademark high defenses, the dragoon will be on the back foot from the first blow. So disadvantaged, Edgar will drill right on through Slust and into the next round of the RPGDL!

Writeup Graveyard / Meliadoul vs (Neclord)
« on: April 30, 2010, 03:56:30 PM »
Vampires are an abomination against St. Ajora! Neclord must suffer and perish, as did the Zodiac Demons! Of that Meliadoul has no doubt, turning her Mighty Sword to rip Neclord asunder. This battle will be a quick and painful one, for neither will hold anything back in this terrific battle. Meliadoul's sword arts will slam into Neclord while black lightning consumes Meliadoul! However, the advantage is to Meliadoul, for she can endure Neclord's torments while her skills obliterate the foul vampire on the spot! Indeed, it will be a quick, brutal fight for all concerned. But with her techniques, Meliadoul can win.

22
Writeup Graveyard / Jowy (vs Kanji)
« on: April 30, 2010, 03:45:03 PM »
The King of Highland must once again take to the dark battlefields! Jowy faces off against a rejected punk biker by the name of Kanji this wee, all attitude and smack talk. Jowy's seen louts like this in war, and it usually ends one way. They end up face down, just another defeated enemy. This week Jowy will work his damnest to make this Kanji's fate, by unsealing the power of the Black Sword Rune. When lightning and the raw power of destruction meet, Kanji will be consumed by a rain of swords. In this Jowy will emerge completely triumphant, leaving Kanji just like Jowy left Luca Blight: Dead!

23
Writeup Graveyard / Eleni (vs Magneium or whatever)
« on: April 24, 2010, 03:49:20 AM »
Eleni is well trained in magic and martial arts. Being well practiced thanks to her times with Ash and company, she knows how to heal wounds and lay out hard hits to everyone! She's going to have to take a lot of them as she endures, but Eleni's good at that. She'll heal, heal, heal and heal some more to get rid of her problems but it'll be enough to shake the pokemon. She'll beat him and move onto the next round.

24
Writeup Graveyard / Harken (vs Maya)
« on: April 24, 2010, 02:39:20 AM »
Lady Harken combines the Fast Draw of the Knights of Arctica with the superhuman endurance of the Metal Demons. When you pair the two, an unstoppable terror is unleashed. Lady Harken brings the best of those two worlds to bear against Maya! The drifter is a powerful and wily opponent, having a myriad number of forms and techniques to call on. A lesser opponent would be dazzled into defeat, but not Lady Harken! For she will use her superhuman agility and metallic endurance to smite Maya down, taking her best shot and then laying her out!

25
Writeup Graveyard / Presea (vs Doel)
« on: April 23, 2010, 10:01:00 PM »
The axe is a noble weapon, a weapon of glory and skill. To the common eye it may appear to be a simple woodman's too, but the utmost technique is required to swing it to perfection. It is a worthy weapon to oppose an Emperor with, and one Presea will command well. Despite her small statue she is supremely skilled with her axe and can use it to cut Doel down to size. Constant combos of backbreaking power will leave the Emperor in ruins, unable to keep his momentum up and falling by the wayside one, two, three chops at a time.
