Ah, it's Totoro-pan. I love that stuff.

It's been around roughly 20 years or so... pretty much a staple of Japanese bakeries. I'd forgotten that Totoro-pan wasn't common knowledge in the West.

Still, it's not only cute - it's quite tasty. Think 'Eclair with cream frosting topping and a slightly thicker, flakier crust'. Of course, the whipped cream filling is the best part.

Or the best part could be the fact that it's like drinking the sucrose-laden blood of Taitoro... your choice.

http://www.brainygamer.com/the_brainy_gamer/2008/10/fallout-3.html

So, this blog is apparently cool and does cool things that I didn't know about. A guy got a bunch of people who just came off the tale end of playing Planetfall (Old text based adventure game, think Zorkish) and were going to play FO3 when it came out, but first had to play Fallout 1 and 2.  They started off hating it, plenty came out of it sounding like Fallout vets (Fallout 3 is going to be nothing at all like Fallout style thing and less errr NMA)

Since we're often prone to discussions about bad writing, I suddenly remembered the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulwer-Lytton_Fiction_Contest

The point of the contest is "to compose the opening sentence to the worst of all possible novels".

I particularly like 2005's winner.

I'm sure a few people are already familiar with this...

http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2008/10/sf-all-time-sales-list.html

An attempt at making an all-time SF/F sales list by author.  It's very rough, but still interesting for a rough idea where the major modern authors stand.  Also features Neil Gaiman himself (!) making a comment to give a more accurate estimate of his sales.

"Could you tell us why you said that?" "I think it would be good if people could go read things and try to understand why I would agree to that".

Is like inability to answer a direct fucking question that is only to your benefit to answer some kind of disease or is it just a mental disorder people that go into politics get?  I would say politicians, but this guy isn't (before this campaign) a politician.  I would say is it something wrong with Republicans but I don't think you would have to dig hard in other parties that you could find the same thing.

Edit -
Quote
This idiot will never own a business, He's lucky he can hang onto he job!!

Either this is a joke or the whole Joe the Plumber is an "average" American (who owns a business that is worried about tax increases should he earn more than a quarter of a million dollars) part of this guy hasn't sunk into the population like it should have and everyone still has managed to take the party line.

than a quarter of a million dollars) part of this guy hasn't sunk into the population like it should have and everyone still has managed to take the party line.

It's pretty much endemic. Unfortunately, dogged persistence in the face of inconvenient facts and questions long ago overtook intellectual coherence as a political asset. Politicians will say what they want to say and if they do answer a question it's probably by accident. In an age dominated by attack ads (which everyone claims to hate even though they pay attention to them anyway just because we're wired to listen to gossip), anything remotely controversial is bound to be used against you at some point. If you express an actual opinion on something, it's going to piss off some single-issue voter, somewhere, some time, and cause them to choose whichever other candidate will fulfill their monomaniacal obsession. So the trick is to avoid stating your actual position on anything until you're in office and can actually do something (and even then it's a hard habit to break). Be vague while giving the impression with physical and vocal cues that you actually know what you're talking about, because often people are impressed far more by attitudes than by words. If anyone tries to point out that you're full of shit, talk over their objections into they're numbed into submission. Raising your voice helps if things get really hairy.

Wow, those are funny.  Lots of decent soft targets there (worthy reading, but mockable anyway).  No Weiss and Hickman though?  Or is that just far to easy?

Thomas Covenant's the best of the lot. Coverwise, not bookwise. I couldn't finish the book, for reasons the 'shopped cover make obvious.

I admit, despite liking a number of those, I laughed.

Also, I only heard about the Thomas Covenant books. I concluded I would never read them unless I decided to indulge in masochism.

Lemme put it this way. I managed to choke down through book 4 of Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I couldn't finish the first Thomas Covenant book.

Also, dunno why there's no W&H in there. The dude took a shot at Salvatore in the second batch, so I can't imagine it's because it's "too easy".
