Tournaments / Return of the Rando Tourney! Nominations
« on: February 28, 2016, 03:46:13 AM »
That's right folks, for no reason at all, the Tournament of Randomness strikes again!

As always, we'll be offering over a hundred events in a variety of formats.  So we'll need a vast array of characters, all of them fictional.  If you want to go borderline, then people playing exaggerated versions of themselves, like Stephen Colbert, or Gordon Ramsey (Hell's Kitchen) are about where the boundary is.

As always, you get twelve noms.  The only limitation is fictionality, and notability.

Alright, the Lollipop Guild has closed it's doors, and nominations are finished.  However, just because a fighter has support does not mean they'll be getting in.  Now they need to get into the tournament by losing like they've never lost before.

Tournaments / Munchkin League - Nominations
« on: October 16, 2015, 10:08:41 AM »
Ah the Twink League.  Taking all of those lovely toys that are locked away in proper DL matches and letting them out to play.  Where any in game setup is not only valid, it's desirable.  Really, what isn't there to love?

Oh, right.  The initiative wars.  And the fact that a lot of the people who get in there have their chances to shine anyways.  No nobodies ever really get to apply.

So, let's dial things back a lot.  Welcome to the Munchkin League, the Twink League's smaller companion.  Just like before, this is a place to showcase in game setups that simply cannot exist in the DL, but letting them fight in a proper tournament.  However, the power level is meant to be strictly in the upper end of Middle.  As such, after nominations, there will be qualifiers where every nom goes up against 5 DL Standard heavies of roughly 3.9 strength.  Anyone who wins a majority of fights is disqualified for being too powerful.  After that, the tournament proper begins.

So, how to do your noms list?  Pretty simple, nom what you like.  If there's a lot of interest I may cap you, but until then, creativity is its own reward.  And, as added fun, nom at least one Munchkin, then you can also nom a single DL Standard fighter you think might be interesting.  They won't even need to run the gauntlet, but they have to be a Middle ranked char.  The other thing worth noting, this is a Twink League, not a Nerf league.  You can make someone better, but you cannot make them worse.  Aside from that, any in game setup is valid.

And just for your crafting pleasure, here's the gauntlet they'll need to lose to in order to show they're not above the power threshold.

Slugger - Lyndis of Sacae
Mage - Rydia of Mist
Tank - Demi
Statuser - Beowulf Kadmus
Limit Fighter - Cloud Strife

For the appropriate power level, they should lose to at least three of the above five.

Tournaments / Strategy Tournament Noms
« on: May 10, 2015, 11:08:45 PM »
Wait, what?  Yup, after over a decade in retirement, the Strat Tourney is returning!

Of course, this is not going to be the old interactive fiction strat tourney.  Instead of a story, it's going to be a more standard tournament format.  Also, because I don't think that there's any real point to skill divisions, I'll instead be doing a size division.  This means three divisions to nom for.  Feel free to go for about 6 people in each division, and since this is the first go, it'll be a bit experimental.

Tactical Division
The standard form of a SRPG, this is just one fight with forces ranging from FFT sized to FE sized.  Because, let's face it, neither of them are all that large.  Troops are whatever the contestant can bring to the fight, and will involve them pitting their forces against what the other guy has.  If the character is not associated with any squad they can bring in, then generics will be provided for them.

Strategic Division
If the last one was about the battle, this one is about the war.  While before named characters could be used as combatants, in this case, no game has enough named characters to really turn the tide on their own.  But, they can still be subcommanders if that's a reasonable thing for them to do.

In this one, each side will be given a country and an army, and their goal is to take the opposing capitol.  If competitors have their own army, then they can use it.  If they do not, then they'll be given a generic one.

Special Forces

While the other two are about winning a fight, just on different scales.  This one is about how well a team can accomplish goals that don't involve beating the other side in a fight.  This will involve a lot more parallel competitions like who can capture a flag or secure and open a gate faster, or that old standby, who can burn down supply depots/senators faster.

I'm about to be off for a couple of weeks, but when I return, if there's enough noms, I'm looking forward to giving this a shot.

Tournaments / The Royal Canadian Rando Tourney Final - Zeus vs. Ghandi
« on: April 30, 2015, 01:30:43 AM »
And so, we have reached the final event.  This time, instead of just one event, we have mashed two, Hatbot Approved, events together.  The first event is simple, the hundred meter dash, but at the end of that dash we have detonating a asteroid in space.  Both contestants will be forbidden from doing anything to the asteroid until they reach the end of the dash, but once there they can try and bust it to their heart's content.

Our first contestant is the man who won the team final and the pairs final single handedly, Zeus.  The leader of Olympus is now in a great position to finally finish it all off.  After all, there's no way he can be contested in the hundred meter dash.  Of course, after that is when the problems start.  Can his trademark lightning bolts smash an asteroid?  Could he leave the Earth to go into space to smash the asteroid?  Can his lightning bolts even leave the earth in order to do the job?  Though he is a sky god, he's still bound to the planet Earth, and asteroids are above even the sky.  And after that, there's a question of how long it will take for him to complete the job.

Against this is Ghandi, the man who had to be carried through the quarter and semi-finals, but who is well placed to win it all here.  He will, admittedly, lose the hundred meter dash badly.  But it's only a hundred meters, and at the end of that hundred meters is a big red button that will fire all the nukes.  While Zeus has questions both physical and metaphysical about his ability to destroy a space-bound asteroid, there are no questions about how well a civilization devoted to nuclear annihilation by an immortal tyrant will do against that same asteroid.

Pairs Event 12: Tag-Team Battle

It's time for a throw down.  As usual, these two teams are gonna duke it out, but only one of them can be in the ring at a time.  However, when that fighter is on the ropes, if they can get to their corner and tag in their helper for a quick double teaming and then jumping back to the sidelines to rest.  Think of it as a two man MxC match.

And much like MxC, the balance in this thing is all kinds of wonky.  We've got our best and our worst fighters on the same team.  Mohandas Ghandi may be an immortal nuclear tyrant, but he's also an old and frail immortal tyrant.  And Civ Nukes are not point blank weapons.  On the other hand, he's teaming with Zeus, so he may as well hunker down with some popcorn.  If his opponents can get through Zeus to get at him, then he's already lost.

Against this, we have the Fist of God, Michael Carpender and the Terror That Flaps in the Night, Darkwing Duck.  Darkwing Duck, while resourceful and plucky, isn't really the sort to take on the divine.  While Michael Carpender actually lives in a universe where Zeus exists.  Of course, while he's top notch in a fight, there's a question of whether or not his Knight of the Sword powers would kick in against a target that might not actually ping as evil.  And, whether or not, even if they did, he could face off against a target in Zeus' league.

{Zeus, Mohandas Ghandi} vs. {Darkwing Duck, Michael Carpender}

Team Event 8: Capture the Flag

This week, we have only one event, as our eight competitors get sorted into teams for one winner takes all event.  And our final team match of the tournament is Capturing the Flag.  This classic event involves a field divided into two halves.  Each side is considered the territory of one side, and if you get tagged in it, then you have to go to jail for ten minutes, or until a team mate manages a jail break.  At the far end of the field, lies the flag.  The goal is to get to the far end, grab the flag, and get it back out again without getting caught.  And of course, no actual attacks are allowed, and doing so will get the violator kicked off the field for ten minutes (we're just gonna have Zell on the side tossing invincibility items at everyone anyways, just to be sure.)  In addition, while there will be a vacant field in the centre, there will also be a section of forest to one side and delapidated cityscape to the other for those who want to be stealthy.  The game will be going on for four hours, with each successful taking of the flag counting for a point, and whoever has the most at the end wins.  If there's a tie, then first point in overtime wins.

The first team is brimming with raw talent, though it does have an issue with two different immortals who are used to command being on it.  Zeus will back up his desire to be in charge with the raw physical attributes of a god, and general perfection at whatever he wants to do.  Of course, his traditional weakness is 'easily distracted'.  Granted, the other side won't have any attractive women on the field (barring some stellar acting by Matt Engarde), but this doesn't rule out Zeus simply deciding to leave the field, because he's never been good with rules.  Ghandi is the other immortal, and he's coming into this unable to use his two greatest strengths, taking the enemy base via application of lots of troops, or just nuking it into the ground.  He does at least have leadership ability, though it's somewhat on a larger scale than this event.  Backing them up are two excellent competitors.  Darkwing Duck, like all superheros, is physically fit, and good at catching people or otherwise getting into places he probably shouldn't.  And Michael Carpender, when he's in his fighting trim, is pretty close to human peak condition.  Though it seems unlikely he'll have divine intervention here.

Against this, we have a team that can generally be considered the underdogs.  For starters, they're having to field Wile E. Coyote.  While he will undoubtedly have some ingenious ideas on how to catch the opposing team, there is a 99.999~% chance of them backfiring horribly.  Then you have Matt Engarde, who is probably pretty fit and is certainly super competitive, but is otherwise just a normal guy.  He'll probably be able to outrun Ghandi and that's it.  Of course, if his acting chops can distract Zeus, that might be worthwile.  Then you have Bowser, fortunately, there are no bottomless pits or lakes of lava, so he probably won't be offing himself, and the guy has been getting steadily faster over time which will also help.  Of course, he's also as stealthy as an exploding clown car.  The main ace in the hole here is Roy Mustang, who's experienced at being stealthy, is skilled at non-lethal small unit tactics, and for Zeus control purposes, is an expert at alcohol and short miniskirts.  Even with all this, it's questionable if his team can manage against the raw physical skill the other team possesses.

Quick Vote Form
{Zeus, Darkwing Duck, Mohandas Ghandi, Michael Carpender} vs {Bowser, Wile E. Coyote, Roy Mustang, Matt Engarde}

Forum Games / Diplomacy: Fall 1903 (Ends: Feb 4th 12:00AM EST)
« on: January 07, 2015, 09:07:34 AM »
Alright folks, it is started.  First post will always be updated to have the current information for you.

Conversation amongst the players can be done in any manner.  However, for orders, they are to be sent to the unbiased moderator, Luther Lansfield.  We will have three days (72h) for talking, one day (24h) for sending in orders, and then the orders will all be made public and the board updated.  Then we will start again.

EDIT: There will be separate negotiation and orders phases.  Orders do not need to be in before negotiations end.  And there is to be no talking about game plans between players when it is not negotiation phase.

Orders must be done semi-formally, so identify unit by type and location, specify what action that unit is taking, and then specify where it is going, or which unit it is supporting/convoying.  The one order which does not require specifics is a land unit that is being convoyed.  So long as there is a valid string of ships with valid convoy orders, it's move command will be accepted.

Players:
1. Excal - Austria-Hungary
2. Snowfire - France
3. Sir Alex - Russia
4. Andrew - Turkey
5. Carthrat - England
6. Mage  - Germany

Negotiations Ends February 4th, 12:00AM EST

State of the Board.

Tournaments / The Royal Canadian Rando Tourney Round 5
« on: December 22, 2014, 12:44:47 AM »
Event 79: Craft (Disturbing Mental Image)
Some images will cause distress when they are seen, but most folks will be able to forget them fairly quickly.  Other things, once imagined, will linger.  These images will show up at the worst possible moment, or perhaps will show up frequently in a person's nightmares.  Other, more insidious mental images will cause those nightmares, will limit sleep, and cause anxiety.  But time can heal most things.  Of course, the most vile mental images are those things you will never remove from your mind.  Images that will haunt you to your grave.  Things that will remain fresh and horrific in a mind until the moment of its complete and utter annihilation.  Those are the sorts of mental images that this event seeks.  Those are the mental images of victory.

Our first contestant into this is Princess Leia, whose most enduring image is kinda the opposite of disturbing.  Of course, leaving aside the almost accidental twincest of the first movie, she has a few other cards to play.  Most of these will involve the horrors of the Star Wars universe, some of these will involve her fairly sharp wit, and a select few will involve Hutts.  She will need to be resourcefull because she has hew work cut out for her.  Divine families, as a rule, are pretty dysfunctional.  But the Greeks?  They are the Jerry Springer participants of the divine world.  And Zeus isn't just the head of the family, he is one of its worst members.  Dude is powerful, petty, randy, successful, vengeful, and, behaps the most dangerous of all for this event, creative.  Granted, the primary focus of that creativity is figuring out how to score with chicks, but he's still got plenty to spare for people who cross his arbitrary rules or just annoy him.

Event 80: Poetry Slam
You wanna know what a Poetry Slam is?  Well, I'ma gonna tell ya!  These two poets are gonna get up on stage, they're gonna say their piece, and then we're gonna have some random shmoes in the audience give a soulless score to the heart of these people's creativity!  Course, whoever gets the higher score wins.

Our first contestant is the Goddess of Light and Trolling herself, Palutena!  She comes all the way from Skyworld and is best known for being mission command to her personal servant, as well as the verbal mastery she shows in that role.  So, she should be ready to show why she's also the Goddess of Verse!  But she's gonna have some tough competition from the Badass Bruiser, the Mushroom Kingdom's Master of Mayhem, the King of all Koopas himself, Bowser!  You may think he's just another dumb brute, but he's one of the few folks in this competition to have busted out poetry in game.  And he'll be looking to show that skill here on the Rando Tourney stage!

Event 81: Being Charlie Brown
There are some folks that people rightly aspire to be like.  John Malkovich is a great example of this.  However, in this event the goal isn't to emulate someone great, but to emulate someone mediocre.  To be someone that the universe hates.  To be the man who loves baseball but can never win a game.  The man who does his best, but still gets blamed for ruining christmas.  The man who has a tree that eats only his kites.  The man who never could kick that damned football, and always believed that this time, he'd be able to.  Yes, it is the time of Charlie Brown, and whoever can best emulate his life will be the winner.

So, in one corner, we have the man who can do anything, Stocke.  He can travel through different timelines to do what he has to.  And odds are, he can manipulate the timelines to ensure he gets the worst of it.  He'll have to think, he'll have to work, he'll have to struggle.  But Stocke can do it, he has the ability and the knowlege.  Of course, where Stocke has to work, Wile E. Coyote simply has to be.  He lives in a world that exists only to make him suffer, and that is all he needs to be Charlie Brown.

Event 82: Bear Wrestling
Wrestling is a great sport, and we're talking the real wrestling here, not the WWF stuff.  You got two people trying to use brain and brawn in order to pin down their opponent.  No equipment, no tools, nothing but muscle.  Of course, for the tourney of randomness, that's way too tame so we got some bears.  Yup, here our contestants have to show their stuff by trying to pin a bear with their bare hands.

Anna is a mysterious merchant, but bears don't really care about that.  On the plus side, she's also finally a fighter, meaning that she can now show off the strength needed to take down that bear.  Against this, she has someone who actually has a bear as a friendly nemesis.  Yup, Darkwing Duck is no stranger to dealing with bears as his foil in the secret agent biz is a Russian grizzly named Agent Grizzlykof.  It would not be surprising if the two have wrestled at some point, so DW is coming into this with experience as well as actual hand to hand fighting skills, which may be all he needs.  On the other hand, he is just a duck.

Event 83: Run for Political Office
In a previous event, I lamented the lack of an in-universe popularity contest.  I forgot this was here.  Well, fine, running for political office has a bit more to it than mere popularity, you have to also convince people that they should trust the well being of whatever office/jurisdiction you're running for to you.  But let's face it, a lot of it is simply how popular are you, and how popular can you make yourself.  Regardless, whoever wins the vote, wins the event.

Ghandi has to be talented at this event, after all, one of his defining traits is the ability to be god-emperor of the Indian Nation no matter what sort of government he decides they're running under.  Sure, most of those government choices don't have real elections, but he can also do just fine in republics and democracies.  In fact, in the first game, it's democracy that makes him nuke happy, so he seems to excel at getting elected with a platform of "Nukes solve everything."  But, as shocking as this may sound, this is not a one sided match.  Opposing him is an American icon, Scrooge McDuck.  And he follows in the fine tradition of the industrialists, except you know he has a soul and he's vaguely cuddly.  And much like the great industrialists, Scrooge has never held political office not because he doesn't know how to get it, but simply because it's too much work for not enough profit.  Far better to work the election machine to get patsies in office who'll do the things that'll help you get even more money to swim in, just like Rockafeller [citation needed].  Scrooge comes into this with tenacity, a willingness to work hard and play dirty, connections from his many adventures, a great team to help him out that begins with Hewy, Dewy, and Louie but doesn't end there, and the ultimate political weapon, oodles and oodles of cash.

So, who will it be.  The Tycoon of Ducksburg, or the Immortal Nuclear Lord of Governing?

Event 84: Chess
Chess is considered the ultimate game of skill and intellect.  Mostly this is because of two reasons.  First, it's got a bunch of moving pieces and no randomness at all.  Secondly, it is ancient in the western tradition.  These both mean it's part of the cultural background, and so if you want to show that someone is smart and a planner, then you show them being skilled at chess.  And so it is that here we respect that tradition by pitting two of our competitors against each other in this classic game of skill.  And, as an added bonus, they both come from cultures where chess is played!

Our first challenger is actually an avid chess player.  And while Roy Mustang's noted record isn't great, it should be noted he's playing against the guy who basically taught him political maneuvering and underhanded tricks.  Aside from that, when chess metaphores do show up in Full Metal, they're attached to Roy.  Which is fitting, as he's got the best mix of intelligence, cleaverness, and planning of the good guys.  Against this, well, Don Cherry's public image is not that of the chessmaster.  Granted, he was a coach, and he is pretty good at reading hockey.  But the dude is a sports expert, not a chess expert.

Event 85: Trick Shooting
For trick shooting, we've got a pretty simple scheme.  One of them calls a shot, then both have to make it.  Then the other one calls a shot, and they both have to make it.  Then you check and see if either is in the lead.  If not, then repeat that process until someone is.  The goal here is trying to be creative and skilled enough to land more shots than their opponent.

Of course, for this challenge we end up with melee specialists instead of firearms specialists.  First up we have the Fist of God, who specialises in using one of three holy swords.  Of course, Michael Carpenter is from modern times, and while he does have a preference, he also lives in a world where guns are a thing, so he can use them even if they're not his thing.  He also has access to some good trainers for this.  Aside from that, he's calm, collected, and will probably be great at setting goals for what to shoot at.  Against this, Gai does have a rifle as part of his tool kit.  But, he's a melee fighter at heart being a huge fan of super robots and their scrapping, instead of real robots and their gunplay.  He should be the better shot, but if he doesn't control his exuberance, that may not matter.

Event 86: Stand Up Comedy
Stand up comedy is one of those things that looks like it should be easy.  Get up on stage, say things that should be funny.  Get people to laugh, get down.  Of course, half of a joke in in the setup and how you say it, not just what you say.  And that isn't even getting into the problems of hecklers, or reading a crowd, or all the other little things that a good comic needs to get a laugh.  For this event, both contestants will have a fifteen minute set, and whoever gets the most laughs wins.

To be honest, I don't know Rita, though I haven't heard much about her being super funny.  However, I'll leave the arguments for her up to all you ToV players in the votes!  Against her we have someone who played all kinds of stuff for kids tv, Matt Engarde.  We also know Matt's good at playing a role and ad libbing in the worst of circumstances due to how masterfully he played his own lawyer for the first half of his own case.  So, let's see if Rita's up to the task of taking down this actor supreme.

Tournaments / The Royal Canadian Rando Tourney Redemption Round!!!
« on: December 12, 2014, 04:53:04 AM »
Because folks getting eliminated and that's it is way too final, we randomly decided to bring some folks back!  So we took a look at who all of you wanted back, the favourite contenders that simply didn't have what it takes to move on.  then we threw all of that out and asked Hatbot who he wanted to see again!

So, without further ado, we bring to you the Redemption Round!

Event 71: Causing the Zombie Apocalypse
Any fool can survive a zombie apocalypse, but it takes a special kind of fool to cause one.  In this event, our contestants have their pick of how they cause the zombie apocalypse, whether it be by designing the zombie virus, running a corporation that causes it, or even just mucking about in black magicks best left alone.  Regardless, victory here is in achieving a zombie outbreak, and in how effective this outbreak is at dooming all like as we know it.

While it seems unlikely to anyone would ever doom western Europe to a shambling death in order to keep Swedes out of the NHL, if anyone was ever going to do that, it'd be Don Cherry!  While he's probably not a scientific genius, and all those allegations of black magic have gone nowhere, the guy does have a fair chunk of hockey and endorsement dollars to throw behind this.  Against this we have...  Arcanine.  Welcome back Arcanine!  While some pokemon are skilled enough in the dark arts and malicious enough to cause a zombie apocalypse, Arcanine is probably not one of them.  Since, y'know, his traits are the more canine ones of bravery and loyalty, and his few dark attacks are biting things real hard.

Event 72: Leaving the Heros Cryptic Clues
Some villains have a pathological need to get caught.  Either that, or they really do see crime as just a big game between themselves and their crime fighter of choice.  As such, they don't want to commit the perfect crime, but rather, want to leave a series of clever clues so that they show that their nemesis really is a dunce as they can't catch a crook even with hints.  Of course, this never ends well, but it never stops them from trying.  As usual, last one caught wins, but if neither of them get caught then the contestant who gives the more blatant clues wins.

Our first contestant is noted for surviving in the deep waters that is Westeros politics, for all that he's probably the least devious member of his family.  Jaime Lannister is known as the Kingslayer, but he survived killing a king, which is a notable achievement.  The question here is, can he manage to string along a proper crime fighter when his last caper involved him getting found out by Ned Stark?  Against this we have the political hero of the original trilogy, Princess Leia Organa.  She's not just a budding Jedi, she's also probably the smartest of the heros in the original trilogy, and as such, should be more than capable of eluding capture should she choose to take up a life of crime.

Event 73: Talking to Fish
Because events that Aquaman can win, should he ever be nominated, amuse me we have talking to fish.  In this event, whoever can best hold a conversation with a fish is the winner.

Fresh from his go-karting defeat, Matt Engarde is ready to win his way back into the tournament.  While he may not be able to talk to fish himself, he has access to some snazzy gadgets, an agent, and a fan club who'll probably be willing to help him.  Not only that, but he should be able to find some way to make some sort of tv worthy drama out of it, right?  His opponent, Vegeta is looking for redemption after losing yet another fight he should have won.  Sadly, his super saiyan fighting skills will not avail him when it comes to talking to fish (now killing fish?  That he can do).  Of course, he's got access to all sorts of alien tech, so maybe there is some sort of fish translator in the bunch.

Event 74: XCOM Budget Limbo
You're in charge of a shadowy multinational organization that is the only shield between your species, your civilization and the ultimate other, a bunch of extra-terrestrials that seem bent on abducting and performing all kinds of unethical experiments on the citizens of the world.  So naturally, your biggest concern is on convincing the nations who are a part of the coalition to keep on sending you cash, right?  This event puts our contestants in charge of X-Com, and they have the stated goal of keeping their funding.  It's not so much about saving the world, as it is on keeping the cash coming in so they can keep paying the scientists and soldiers and affording all those fancy plasma rifles they need to fight the aliens.

Zeus got knocked out because he couldn't job as well as the ultimate jobber, that's no dis.  Now he's got a gig that's more in tune with his skills.  After all, Zeus was top dog on Mount Olympus, how hard can X-Com be?  Of course, Zeus was top dog on Olympos because he was the biggest, baddest, and toughest of a fairly big host of divine beings.  Aside from that, he's kinda petty, and not all that great at actually doing beaureaucratic work.  I mean, even the folks who venerated him didn't really call him a people person.  The aliens will be stopped, but how much of that funding will make it through unscathed?  Against him we have Lightning who recently got knocked out for obsticle course failure.  Or, more accurately, for getting paired with an obsticle course failure.  She too is a leader, even if it's much smaller scale than Zeus.  However, she's much more detail oriented and way better at dealing with people as well as being practacle in her goals than Zeus.  Besides, this time it'll be interesting to see how she does at saving the world with beareaucracy.

Event 75: The Hundred Meter Dash
The hundred metre dash is pretty much the human equivalent of 0-60 for cars.  It's about how fast can you start, and how well can you keep it up over a short period of time.  Simple event, simple description.

Erim may be a goddess, but that didn't stop her from being taken out early when she failed to stop Instrumentality from happening.  Now she's back, and while she's never been much of a physical powerhouse, she is divinely powered and that should count for something.  Michael Carpenter was also knocked out first round, though now he's back into his wheelhouse.  He may just be a human, but he's peak condition human that's used to tearing around battlefields while lugging plate armour and a greatsword, and that's ignoring his day job as, well, as a carpenter.

Event 76: Duel
This event is also simple.  We've got an arena, two combatants enter, one fight leaves.

Rita Mordio is a member of Brave Vesperia and a mage.  That's really all I know about her, but she's an rpg character, so you know she's baseline competant for mayhem.  Against her we have the one contestant who is not a returning member, but is instead brand new for this redemption week!  Aquaman!  Yup, dude shows up, Hatbot throws in the event that is made for him!  And...  he doesn't get it.  But, he is a member of the justice league!  That counts for something, right?

Event 77: Figuring Out How to Use Unknown Technology
Here's a piece of tech, you got no clue what it really is, or how to use it.  But the situation is looking pretty bad, grim even, and if you don't figure out how to use it, then the day ain't gonna be saved.  This even is about figuring out how to use that piece of tech, and whoever can do so first, wins.

Lakitu was doing great, and then he found himself on the wrong side of a fight from a Goddess and got knocked out.  Now he's up to showing what he can do with science.  Of course, while he does use some high tech stuff for his MKTV network, does he actually ever get shown as a scientific genius?  Against him we have Mohandas Ghandi who got knocked out for being stuck in a beauty contest with a vampire.  Which, really, isn't a knock, since Vampires are the sexy corpses.  Now he's got to show off that he's got a sharp mind, but he also comes into this with the fact that one of the big things you do in Civ is figure out how stuff works.  I mean, tech research is huge, and if you don't do it, you lose.  Of course, how long it takes to research stuff is a touch of an issue, so while he can do it, can he do it faster than Lakitu?

Event 78: Elvis Impersonation
In this event, we hail to the king, baby.  Yup, it's Elvis time!  And whoever can rock his jeans melting style the best can claim victory and return to the Rando Tourney!

Vin may have lost out because she wasn't enough of a man, but can she get back in by being the King?  While the Elvis style isn't hers, she has done acting and deep cover infiltration before, and I'm sure she's ready to show how she can overcome any challenge.  Against her, well...  Bowser's got a bone to pick, after the shame of being taken out in the first round over something as lame as Jogurt Herding.  But he can dig being the King, y'see.  And since he's got no problem with the neon style or being the biggest, baddest, ego in the room, the King of all Koopas is gonna show the Rando Tourney just how to rock it in some blue suede shoes.

Forum Games / Interest in Diplomacy?
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:00:45 AM »
I've heard this mentioned a few times in chat, but, I'm actually curious.  Is there interest in a play by e-mail, or forum messages, DL Diplomacy game?

Way the game works is simple.  You play one of six great powers in Europe, and you're trying to take over half of the supply centers in Europe (basically, important provinces) by using your army.  The catch, there is no luck.  You win only by bringing in superior force, or hitting where there is no opposition.  And, given that all armies/navies hit the same, and no one has any advantage, you can only win by convincing other people that they want to help you, typically by making deals.  The art of the game is in knowing which deals to keep, and which deals to break, and when to plant the dagger.  This is helped out by there being a period of negotiation before each move, and then all of the orders are handed in so that the moves can be implemented simultaneously.

Looking for seven players, and while I'm sure we all trust each other out of game, perhaps an eighth person to take the order e-mails and either implement, or post the moves would be helpful.  In addition, rules can be read here.

Players:
1. Excal - Austria-Hungary
2. Snowfire - France
3. Sir Alex - Russia
4. Andrew - Turkey
5. Carthrat - England
6. Mage  - Germany

Now including a map of the starting condition.

Tournaments / The Royal Canadian Rando Tourney Round 4
« on: December 02, 2014, 04:38:39 AM »
Event 65: Bar Fight
Lots of people are good when it comes to traditional fighting.  I mean, they've got their mighty weapons, and their awesome magic.  But, how well can they really do when it comes down to the people's combat style, the humble bar fight.  Here, swords and guns are not allowed, neither is magic.  You've got your fists, furniture, and possibly even other brawlers.  And of course, it isn't just you and your opponent, there's a whole bar full of fighters.  And, as always, last one standing, wins.

Stephen Colbert would have you know that, despite being a reporter by trade, he is also a Man!  And as such he's skilled at this, the manliest of all fighting styles.  Of course, you know who is also a man?  Bleeding with a man's soul, Gai Daigouji will show that a man's fists needn't be made of steel to fight a man's fight.

Event 66: Master Baiting
Master Baiting is long, and hard.  It's not something that can be done in a single stroke, no matter how masterful that stroke might be.  Instead, with patience and repeated effort, the Master Baiter will enventually have a few frentic moments where the beast (with one or two backs, as the case may be) is contained followed by an eminently satisfactory climax and the glow of a job well done.

So, of course, for this event in innuendo and dirty thoughts, Hatbot has seen fit to grace us with Mr. Rodgers and Scrooge McDuck.  Thanks, Hatbot.

Event 67: Directing a Movie
What's not to love about the movies?  There's action, drama, comedy, explosions!  And it's all packed into a nice two hour bite.  Of course, making it is a lot more than two hours.  From writing the script to casting the actors to making those dazzling special effects, there's a lot of effort and skill that goes into making one of these.  So, we're putting two rookies up to the task of making the next great blockbuster.

Citan Uzuki knows a thing or twoabout spy blockbusters, having lived through one himself.  Reaching from the people who know nothing about what's going on to the very heights of power and God Itself.  And that's only one of the tales he has to tell.  Aside from that, he's known to be nuanced and generally skilled.  Against this we have someone who's seen more wars than most war reporters, and much like Homer, may actually be more than one person.  Anna from the FE Multiverse is ready to rock the movie circuit with her own Anna film studio!

Event 68: Rocket Jumping Obsticle Course
It's become cliche these days to deal with obsticle courses by thinking with portals.  And if there's anything we want to avoid, it's cliche.  So, instead of thinking with portals, we're gonna feed our contestants some good old fashioned invincibility stars and get them thinking with rockets!  Yup, it's an obsticle course that can only be mastered by cleverly using rockets to ragdoll themselves from point A to points B,C,D and beyond!  Naturally, the first one across the finish line is the winner.

Our first contestant might be coming into this with an untouchable advantage.  Not only is Wile E Coyote a super genius, and not only is he very used to dealing with rockets.  But he's also in possession of a wealth of experience in all the ways those rockets can a) fail, and b) blow him up.  He also has so much experience getting blown up and falling at greats distances and at high speeds, that the only thing that might make him think twice here is that he'll need to do it purposefully instead of accidentally.  But, he's up against one of the few people who might be able to match him.  While I can't recall Apu ever needing to use rockets, let alone on himself, Apu is a denizen of Springfield, where strange things do happen.

Event 69: Popularity Contest
A very simple match, just vote for who you like more.

And, to add to that simplicity, here's the two contestants!  Roy Mustang, from Full Metal Alchemist.  And Spider-Man, from Spider-Man.

Event 70: Fansubbing Anime (For Awesomeness)
I was going to say that anyone can sub anime and make it something excellent that is both respectful of the original work while changing the cultural references such that they work in the new language with the new audience.  But let's face it, people who can do that are rare.  There's a reason the Phoenix Wright games were such a surprise.  But, what anyone can do is this event.  Make a translation that is awesome, because you can almost kinda sorta see what it should be, but in the translation process something went wrong and now it's shown through the filter of hilarious insanity.

First up is someone who, despite not officially being a scholar, is probably still too good with languages and precision to really get a superbly awesome sub.  Pevara Tazanohvi, Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah may have a sense of humour, but it's unlikely to shine here.  Then again, she still has a chance as she's up against Stocke, he of the time travelling who also isn't a scholar, but who is also fairly serious and fairly knowledgable.

Pairs Event 11: Twin Obsticle Course
Obsticle courses are one of those things that test strength and agility as you try and get through all of the various annoying hoops and challenges placed in front of you.  The catch here is that there will be places in the course where a contestant will get stuck unless their partner on the other track manages to hit a button to open the pathway for them.  Both sides will be hampered by this, so each team will only be as good as their weakest contestant.

But it will be hard to pick out a weakest contestant in this crew.  First up we have a literal goddess in Palutena, who most likely will prove more than able to deal with an obsticle course.  And paired up with her is the secret agent/superhero Darkwing Duck who does have a habit of getting fowled up in various ways, but always pulls through in the end.  But against this we have Gaston, who may not have the auto-win status he pulls in the musical events.  But make no mistake, the guy is still top shape for a mere human.  There is a reason there's a song about how strong and fit this guy is.  But even he pales comparred to Lightning Farron, aka the soldier who takes out a defended train by herself and runs along a road that is basically a pretty nasty obsticle course by itself before she gains super human powers.

And we're back!  Now with less trick team battles!

Round 3 -B

Event: 63: Working for the Secret Pony Cabal
Rumours persist of secret forces that rules the world from the shadows.  Some claim it's the Stonemasons.  Others say it's the Gnomes of Zurich.  Or perhaps you prefer the Church of the Sub-Genius.  However, the truth is far stranger than what you might have heard.  For the true masters of the world are the secret Pony Cabal.  These Equestrians rule with a iron hoof, and all who pose a threat to their power are quietly removed or publically discredited.  This is a contest to see who can best advance the sinister agendas of their Pony Overlords.

Who does Stephen Colbert truly work for?  Is he secretly a member of the Pony Cabal, spoofing our traditional politics as he advances their sinister agenda?  Or is he spoofing the Pony Cabal, advancing their agenda while playing at something even deeper?  Regardless, so long as he isn't disappeared for Unequestrian Conduct, he seems like he will do well.  Against this we have a pilot of the elite ATX team, Excellen Browning.  While being on the outs with her own government may seem to be a bad position to advance the agenda of her Pony Overlords, it does mean she's deeply embedded in a community made up of the most powerful known robot pilots.  And jesters are well known for being able to influence thoughts without being seen as the origin of those ideas.

Event 64: Iron Chef
Here in the Kitchen Arena, we have two noted chefs, here to compete in the famed Iron Chef competition, where they will need to make three dishes using the special match ingredient.  In this case, all of the dishes must employ and highlight the humble Anchovy.

Our first contestant is known for having nothing ever go right.  But so long as he avoids the ACME kitchen tools, Wile E. Coyote might have a chance?  I mean, it's not like his poor cooking skills have ever lost him his shot at the Roadrunner before.  Against him we have someone who we know can at least cook somewhat edible food, since she supposedly cooked stuff for guys before and they liked it.  Just so long as she can keep the poison out of the food at least.  After all, judges keeling over mid judgement is kinda grounds for disqualification however good your food might be.

Pairs Event 10: Pairs battle

This is a pretty simple affair, two teams of two walk in, and only one walks out.  As before, the teams can do whatever they want however they can.

The first team may as well be one person.  I mean, Lakitu is no slouch as any Mario fan can tell you.  He's kinda hard to reach, and will happily launch spinies at you all day until you manage to reach him and take him out.  But, when you consider both the competition he's facing (they're both great at dealing with him) and who his partner is, he's kinda a nothing here.  Who is he partnered with?  Why, no less than one of the most competant Forsaken out there, Graendael.  She comes complete with a Golden Age's worth of knowledge of weaves of mass destruction, superb defensive weaves, nothing less than Balefire itself, and a variety of stealth and mobility weaves.  These come into play because hit and run is her second favourite tactic since she hates being in a place where her enemies can actually strike at her.  But her favourite tactic plays to her strongest weaves, Compulsion.  Her specialty is the ability to take over people's minds and turn them into her puppets.  And if she can't be stopped from doing that, then she'll take an easy win.

Against this we have a literal Goddess in Palutena, whose powers will easily smash Lakitu, but she'll probably be more concerned with trying to deal with Graendael herself.  Which leaves Spider-Man to deal with Lakitu which should be easy for the web slinger, and then the two of them will need to gang up.  The problem here being, keeping one of both of them from being subborned via Compulsion.  But, Palutena's a goddess, and Spidey's got his spider sense, right?

Team Event 7: Impromptu Musical Number
Life's a happy song when you live in a world where musical numbers can happen at any time for any reason.  And in this event, we've got two teams of four where they've got to fit a musical number into their lives.  Points are awarded for how good the song and dance is, for how well it fits into life as they know it, and of course, for if it can combine entertainment with plot advancement.  Whichever team can do it best, wins.

The first team has an odd combo, we've got Mirror B, where dancing is a way of life, and he comes complete with backup Ludicolo dancers.  As well, they have a trained thespian in the talented Mordin Solus, who knows, at the very least, intergalactic Gilbert and Sullivan.  It may not be a way of life to him, but he's got the chops.  Of course, their back end will be a bit trickier. Millenia is fairly charismatic, so who knows how well she'll perform.  But in the role of team lodestone, you have Queen Zeal, who is just kinda crazy.  If the team can find a way to work that in, they could do quite well.  But that might be a big if.

Especially since they've got A-List opposition here, as once again we've got the guy who lives in a Disney flick.  Gaston is known for breaking into some pretty good song and dance routines at the drop of a hat.  And while he may be from a completely different sort of Disney world, Scrooge McDuck at the very least can dance.  Though, I don't know how often song and dance routines happen in Duckburg.  And Anna has now been conclusively proven not to be a dancer, or a bard.  But she probably also isn't actively bad at this, and she's from a world where the power of dance is respected.  There is, of course, one problem, and it's the complete opposite of the other team's problem.  See, their last competitor may not be a dancer, but he is a professional entertainer.  And, he managed to convince no lesser force than a US Congression Budget Committee to part with millions of dollars with nothing more than some gentle words and a song.  Mr. Rodgers has singing chops.  The problem is, he's also, personality wise, the Anti-Gaston.  If this goes well, then we're going to have a musical dual where this clash is highlighted and their opposing natures complement each other.  If this goes badly, then we're going to have a catastrophy of clashing musical styles that's all dischord and no harmony.

Round 3-A

Event 61: Ladder Climbing
Don't believe the hype!  The Budehuc Tenkai Society would like to make it known that climbing ladders is NOT the easy affair that some would portray it as.  And this event is meant to highlight the ladder-challenged among us.  The challenge is simple.  Our contestants will be given a tower to climb, using only platforms and ladders.  And, they must actually climb the ladders using hands and feet, and not use some other mechanism in order to scale the tower.  With all that agreed upon, let the climbing commence!

Our first competitor is in a bit of a quandry.  You see, where he ends his character arc and series is actually worse for him climbing wise than where he is halfway through, or even at the beginning!  Yup, Rand al'Thor may have the world quaking at his passage, but lacking a hand may leave him at a disadvantage here.  Against him is the wobbly step that ruins your balanca, the slippery rung that you just can't hold on to, facing him is the terror that flaps in the night!  Darkwing Duck!  And despite him being a duck, he's definitely got hands, especially with all the tools he uses.  But, he's used to using a grapple gun, which is totally against the rules here (granted, that really works in his favour because Grapple Gun <<< Saidin) which means he may be unused to using something so mundane as a ladder.

Event 62: Fiddling Contest
When the Devil's looking for souls, what's a fallen angel to do?  Sure, he can lie, cheat, and swindle (our research department says he can't actually steal souls), but he also fiddles.  In this competition we harken back to that famous song, and while souls may not be on the line, a place in the next round of the Royal Canadian Rando Tourney is!  As always, all that matters is the ability to play the fiddle, like musically.  Any and all ability in using the fiddle, or the bow, as a lethal weapon is utterly useless in this match.

This week we have badass vs. badass.  In one corner, we have Street Fighter's Dark Demon of the Martial Arts, Akuma!  And in the other corner we have the Champion of Etro, the Saviour of Cocoon, Lightning Farron!  Aaaaand, they're gonna be fiddling.  So put away the gunswords and ki blasts.  Akuma may be all about the fighting, but he's also one of those annoying plot characters that shows up to be better than you, taunt you a bit, and then run off.  Because he's a jerk.  Meanwhile, Lightning's edge is going to be that she actually seems to have an interest or two outside of fighting, and at this point will probably get some genuine enjoyment out of doing something that isn't saving the world or helping people with random stuff.

Pairs Event 9: Figure Skating
There are few things more graceful than pairs figure skating.  The motion of two people moving as one as they glide across the ice, spinning across it's surface and through the air.  All while keeping in time with the music.  This is truly the sport of the northern kings.  And today, we shall see which team shall prove more worthy of it.

Our first team is a study in contrasts.  While Apu Nahasapeemapetilon may not be much of an athelete, he lives in a world where complicated dance routines are just another part of lime, right up there with driving to work and brushing your teeth.  This means what he lacks in physical strength, he'll make up for with choreography.  Adding skates may add another layer of complication to the whole thing, but I suspect what will really be the problem here is that he won't be expected to sing while he skates.  Not that there's any rules against it.  His partner, Citan Uzuki, probably doesn't know much about skating or dancing, but he is strong, quick, dextrous, and a skilled martial artist, meaning he's in good physical shape and able to pull off some impressive stunts.

Against this is our second team.  Oberyn Martell comes into this knowing winter like no one else in this event.  After all, you don't need to be a Stark to know about the colder season when it's seven years long.  Of course, even if skating is a thing they do in Westeros, there is a question as to whether or not Oberyn does it, and if he can pull off graceful like he can pull off strong.  Fortunately, he's paired with a being of supernatural power and grace.  Spike is a vampire, which means he's probably got the best physical shape in this competition.  Now, if only he can pull off the dancing moves.

Team Event: 6: Team Battle
This event is simple.  Two teams enter, and the last team standing wins.  No rules, no mercy.  Use all your strength and cunning to fight until either your opponent falls, or you do.

Our first team is coming in loaded for a fight.  Leader of the first team, with a man's soul and a strong back, a tenacious demon, the Great Kamina takes to the field!  Fighting in the Gurren mecha that the Gurren brigade takes it's name from, this bold and brash fighter is aiming to go beyond the impossible and claim victory.  And while he may not have his buddy Simon and his partner mech, the Lagann at his side, he does have three excellent companions.  A professional fighter with skill and style, the ROCK gets this Kamina guy and is ready to kick some ass.  Having faced all kinds of threats and adventures, Finn the Human is going to be giving it his all.  But, the team heavy is someone else who knows a bit about going beyond the impossible, straight from Dragon Ball Z, we have Vegeta.  Who is one of the most powerful fighters in this competition.

But this is not going to be a one sided fight.  Leading the opposition is a military Colonel with years of wartime experience in small unit fighting as well as a human weapon.  Roy Mustang is arguably the best fighter in Full Metal Alchemist, claiming curbstomp victories in fights teams of his protagonists struggled to hold their own in, and has only lost twice.  To weather, and to God.  And he fought God blind.  Joining him as a counter for the Gurren is his own Mecha, Gai Daigouji will be supporting with his own Aesti Valis and blood hot enough to match Kamina himself.  Working from the shadows, he has secret agent Stocke who has his own battlefield experience and skills to bring to this fight.  And as an added heavy, probably more potent than Mustang himself, they have Pevara Tazanohvi, Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah and badass from introduction to the last battle for the fate of humanity.

Round 2-D

Event 53: Heckling
As Waldorf and Statler could tell you, Heckling is the fine art of saying horrible stuff about something.  But, it can't just be horrible.  A true heckler will also make sure their heckling has the following.  It has to be clever.  It has to be unique to whatever it is they're heckling, so they have to had paid attention.  It should be funny, best of all if you can get even the person you're heckling to laugh at themselves.  And finally, but most importantly, it must be true.  It does not need to be serious, and the best hecklers don't even hold themselves as truly serious.  In this case, we're going to give our two competitors a boxseat to a live performance at the Muppet Theatre.  Whoever gets the best response to their heckling wins.

Of course...  there's a question as to how well we're going to get heckling here.  Vegeta has character development, which may be his saving grace because he starts off as a villain who is waaaay too full of himself, and everything I've heard suggests he stays kinda full of himself.  But, who knows, I may be wrong.  Against this, we have Prince Adam, who at least has that Saturday Morning Banter down, but probably isn't the best heckler out there.  Now, Skeletor on the other hand...

Event 54: Kareoke
Everyone knows kareoke, it's that thing where they take out the vocalist and then you get some people to grab a mic and make a fo...  I mean, give being a vocalist a try.  Because we're cruel, we're both going to be using one of those ones that score people for ability to sing and stick them in front of a bar crowd.  Highest score naturally wins.

While he may not quite have the chops that Gaston does (noooo oneeee siiiings like Gaston!), Apu from the Quik-E-Mart is still from a universe where people break into song with alarming frequency.  And, the guy has gotten a few leading roles himself, so he's shown this is an event he can excel at.  There's just one catch which is both a blessing and a curse, all of the songs he's sung are known tunes, with different lyrics, which means he'll probably be more comfortable with a different set of lyrics than what the kareoke machine will be piping to him.  But, if he can win over the crowd, and keep the pitch right (since that's all the machine cares about) then he might be able to pull this off.  And like was said, he does know tunes that will be on the kareoke set list.  On the other hand, he'll need those chops, because he's up against a machine at this event.  And, well, every event.  Bacchus probably isn't the best singer, but being a cyborg, it wouldn't be too surprising if he can study/download the lyrics, and modulate his vocal chords with some kind of auto-tune, which will turn this into a match of experience against tech.

Event 55: Completing a Pokemon Journey
Welcome to the wide world of pokemon!  As always, our two competitors will be given a starter of their choice, and a rival not of their choice, and will be set out to frolic in the tall grass, to compete in nation wide institutionalized animal pit fighting, and to get the eight badges necessary to face the Elite Four and prove that they are the very best, like no one was before!  Naturally, first one to best the elite four and the plot twist rival who beat them all right before then wins the event.

Our first competitor may have never had anything at all to do with pokemon before, doesn't mean she doesn't have experience getting others to do the grunt work for her on her world wide journey to pick up plot coupons.  Only now, there won't be anyone to sass Millenia as she goes at it.  I mean, gathering the various body parts of Valmar, gathering the eight badges?  How different can it be?  Against this we've got a survivor of the downest and dirtiest kind.  In fact, Zoey may be looking forward to just getting to travel having something else doing the fighting for her, and mostly not having to deal with the ravenous dead.  But, will her skills be adequate, or is this her real test?

Event 56: Jobbing
Sometimes, what the job calls for isn't a triumphant victory.  Or even a win of any shape or size.  Sometimes, you need to lose.  And you need to look good doing it.  This is the art of the jobber, the person who makes the entertainment happen because they're there to lose, to suffer, to be defeated.  And the best ones are the ones who get us to care about them even as we know they can never win.  To root for them even as we watch and wait for the inevitable trainwreck that all their hopes and dreams turn into.

This is the point where I'd give the victory conditions, and a writeup of the strengths and weaknesses of both competitors.  But, as I see it, there is no argument this week.  Commentors, feel free to prove me wrong.  But the match here is Zeus, he who doesn't really know how to lose (Kratos doesn't count as this is Mythology Zeus, not GoW Zeus).  Really, the jobbing in Greek mythology is done by mortals who broke some arbitrary rule he or his Olmypos Bros came up with.  Or, who stood between him and a fine piece of ass.  And against him we have the patron saint of jobbing, Wile. E. Coyote.  The guy who, no matter what he was chasing, will lose in the most ludicrous ways because the universe hates him.  Huh...  kinda like most of the heros of Greek mythology...  So, yeah...

Event 57: Abridging
Abridging is the fine art of taking a work, and then cutting out the excess, reducing it down to it's essentials so that someone can get the soul of a work without having to go through all of it.  That is proper abridging, we're more interested in comedic abridging, which is similar, except that you're also highlighting the ridiculous of the soul of a work.  The more you can keep that essential nature of a work and still keep it funny, the more likely you are to win this event.

Cecilia is noted for her courage, for her mastery of magic, and for being a princess.  Less noted is her vibrant personality and busting out the jokes.  As such, she'll probably be super good at the formal abridging, but can she make it funny?  Against this, we have Pevara of the Red Ajah.  Where she is known for...  well, being a generally good person, and even showing signs of a sense of humour.  Possibly even without having to add on the qualifier "for a member of the Red Ajah" where both things are in direly short supply.  She will likely also be good at the formal abridging thing (though not so much as a Brown or White), but will she be able to get more humour?

Event 58: Competitive Blogging
In today's blogosphere the click and link is a hard won and valuable commodity.  In order to gain the fame that earlier generations of net stars squandered you need to be sharper, faster, wittier, and more controvercial than ever before.  As always, whoever can get the most followers wins.

Our first contestant will be a natural.  After all, Graendal has a sharp wit, acute observations, and keen insights into human psychology.  Also, the shenanigans she gets up to and the co-worker gossip she'll have to dish out will just be incredible.  Because while no one can sing like Gaston, there is no one who can be catty like one of the Forsaken.  Against this, we have a lone everyman whose very lack of personality inspires us to empathise with him as he puts up with an incredible amount of ludicrous situations, suicidal orders, and just a heaping helping of shit from the universe.  The Orc Peon, taking to the net under the title Stop Poking Me!, will share his slice of life stories from a world of warcraft.

Event 59: Running a Nation
We've had the debates, we've had the wars, but now we've got the peacetime challenge.  Running a nation, full stop.  Both of our contestants will be provided a pretty standard country if they can't otherwise provide one of their own.  And they'll be given a four year term, and at the end, we'll take a look and see which country did better.

Our first competitor has a way with words and a sharp mind, which is good because he's got nothing else going for him, literally.  But Morte won't let being a floating skull stop him, as his wordcraft will prove to be the key to his performance in this challenge.  The problem is, he's not great at making friends, but that might not be necessary if he's smart about his policies.  Against this we have another super intelligent competitor.  Yup, Super Spy Citan Uzuki will show us if he's as good at leading nations as he is at spying.  Given how many heads of state he pals around with (and let's be honest, Citan's buddies are probably doing more ruling of Fatima than Bart is) and who he seems to share some hefty discussions with, the man probably comes into this with some good idea of what does, and does not work.  At least, in a world torn apart by gears and fighting.  Maybe a land at peace will trip him up?

Event 60: Committing Acts of Unnatural Science!
And after some matches with some great competitors, we have this...  Committing acts of unnatural science is exactly what it sounds like.  Regular scientists have ethical boundaries, or will otherwise be held back by things like self-preservation, or not wanting to wreck the world because it's where they and the guy who signs their paychecks lives.  This match is about the people who are mad, who are touched in the head, who are generally laughed at by supposed fools at the academy.  The people who pervert the laws of nature and physics in their science.

We're...  not gonna get any of that.  First up, we have Tidus.  The guy's not an idiot, but he ain't super bright either.  His only real advantage is that he probably knows some rudimentry stuff about Machina given where he grew up, and the local religion publically files playing with Machina under this category.  Against this, we have Oberyn Martell, who has the advantage of not being held back by ethical constraints.  Of course, what he'll do probably won't be classified as acts of science, unnatural or otherwise.  Just...  unnatural acts.  Because Westeros is special like that.

Round 2-C

Event 49: Calvinball
Other games can get boring or stale because they're always played the same.  But Calvinball is always different, which makes it the superior game.  Yup, Calvinball is a game of few rules, where the way you get points and how you win is made up on the fly each time, so victory can only be determined by quick wits and creativity.

We'll be starting this round off with a bit of Hulkmania.  And while Hulk Hogan is going to be a little hurt by the fact that WWE wrestling is kinda scripted, he is still a good entertainer.  Specifically, he's an entertainer who's used to working with a live crowd which requires being able to react to the crowd.  Against this we have someone who isn't any kind of entertainer at all, nor someone given to games in general.  However, Scrooge McDuck started from nothing and made himself a Multi-Kajillionaire on the basis of never backing down, a sharp wit, and an ability to roll with pretty much anything and go for the win.

Event 50: Freeing Humanity From Their Robotic Overlords
If fiction has taught us anything, it is that man eating robots enslaving humanity for their own nefarious purposes is less a possibility and more an inevitability.  But it has also taught us that humanity is tenacious, and that a hero will rise up in order to liberate us from our robotic overlords.  So, let us see which of these heros will do the better job of saving humanity.

Lightning Farron has a name for the day when she will be called upon to save humanity.  And that name is Tuesday.  Because, seriously, that's about how often she's getting called upon to save people these days.  Needless to say, having twice gone up against divine threats, robotic overlords are probably a step down from her usual fights.  Her competition lacks her raw power as well as her experience, but he is known for being sneaky and for his ability to rally people.  Which is good, because this is one day Ferris Beuller won't be able to take off.  However, his ability to get away with shit at the highest tier, as well as his ability to get people to band together for his cause should give him a strong edge.  And, his one greatest asset over his opponent is his luck.  While Lightning seems to be unable to catch a break, Ferris Beuller seems to be made of horseshoes and four leaf clovers.

Event 51: Being Mysterious
As any hack knows, the key to popularity is being mysterious.  Well, and brooding.  But mostly mysteriousness!  Who cares if the mystery ever gets resolved so long as it exists in the first place.  So, what we're going for here is which character is going to be dealing with a party of protagonist types who know nothing about them, and whoever can manage to keep the mystery about themselves going longer is the winner!

Hailing from the many lands of Fire Emblem, Anna is an old pro at this event.  Despite showing up in all sorts of places across space and time, we only really know four things about her.  1) She can break the fourth wall, 2) She apparantly has a boyfriend, 3) She claims she has a lot of clones/sisters, kinda like Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny, and 4) They all really like money.  And this is despite dealing with a good half dozen different parties.  Against this we actually have one of the better contenders in this event from the Potterverse.  Nope, not Dumbledore, though he'd be a pro.  Instead we have Luna Lovegood, everyone's favourite crazy person.  Or is she?  Her mysteriousness stems not from knowing very little about her, because she's more than happy to talk about herself and what she believes, but instead comes from not knowing how much of what she says is actual truth, and how much is craziness.  Especially since some of the crazy later turns out to be true.  Regardless, this will be a good fight.

Event 52: Swimming in Money
Y'know Scrooge McDuck, that guy who's currently in that event further up the screen?  Well, he's got this neat trick where he dives into a vault full of cash and swims in the thing like it's full of water.  I mean, when they remade his game, they gave you a vault just so you could dive into the thing and swim in gold coins.  Now, we're not asking anyone to dive in.  But we are asking our contestants to swim in that vault.  And whoever can swim in it the best, wins.

Our first contestant comes into this match with an odd advantage.  Darkwing Duck is best known for getting dangerous and engaging in spy or superheroic adventures.  But, he's also quite good at learning strange, but useful, skills.  In addition, he's only two degrees of separation from the master himself since his sidekick is none other than Launchpad McQuack, who is Scrooge's pilot.  All of which means, that if swimming in money is a skill that can be learned, instead of a superpower that Scrooge cannot share, then Darkwing Duck has a good chance to pick it up.  Against this, we have a competitor who is perhaps less good at learning skills, but also doesn't exist as someone who has some kind of comedic lightning rod attached to them either.  And Hello Kitty also is no slave to physics, meaning that she should have a chance to pull off the swimming in cash trick as well, and look strangely kawaii while doing so.

Team Match 5: Rock Band
A Rando Tourney staple, we've got four contestants on a side going up, each one taking a different instrument and then doing a set.  Whichever team can get the highest score on their set will also take the win.  And, of course, there are no safeties on, while a struggling member can be saved, once they go down a third time, they're done.  The member in question can try to avoid this by starting at a lower difficulty, but that also means less points, so a balance of daring and skill is required.  And remember, the four positions are Lead Guitar, Singer, Drummer, and Bass Guitar for the scrub.

Our first team is coming into this without any notable contenders.  Sure, Caesar, Don Cherry, AND Profiteur are all good with words in different ways, but it's unlikely that any of them are the singing type.  And none come with a musical pedigree, though Caesar, having been raised as a noble, might have some training that would be worthwhile here.  Oddly enough, their best competitor will probably be Ryu whose reaction speed should be the highest of the bunch of them.  That said, with the exception of Profiteur, they're all also pragmatic, and so they shouldn't need to worry about bombing out, going instead of a difficulty level that should ensure a finish.  But will it be enough?

Let's cue up the music, this event has been won.  Because no one in this contest can sing like Gaston!  No lyrics will pose him a challenge, five stars will surely be his!  The question is, will anyone else on his team be able to drag him down?  Excellen is known for her speed, and given that's mostly piloting a mech, being able to handle a guitar or the drums should be a cinch for her.  And Roy Mustang is competant and pragmatic.  So, while he won't be a huge asset, he's smart enough to realise his team is strong and he just needs to stay out of the way.  Which leaves us with the problem: Dahlia Hawthorne.  She can go either way, she is smart.  She is ambitious.  And, she likes being 'rescued' by others.  There are two ways this might play out.  She might be smart, realize that Gaston can take this thing with his singing chops, and let her team carry her.  Or, she might get hung up on the rescue mechanic, go on a difficulty level she can't back up, and need to get rescued too often, or at a time when no one can rescue her, and tank the team.  She's the sorta character who can go either way, and which way she goes is the way the team will go.

Round 2-B

Event 41: Forming a Superhero League
Sometimes, the threats facing the world are more than a single hero can handle, no matter how heroic they might be.  After all, while Superman is great at smashing things, he can't pull off the sneaky like Batman can.  Which brings us to the job at hand for this event, both of our contestants have to put together a superhero team capable of stopping mega-threats.

Gadget Hackwrench comes into this with a bit of an advantage.  Sure, none of them are really superheros as such, but the Rescue Rangers are a fully formed team off the bat, and they can probably get a good start with Disney's actual superheros, Gizmoduck and Darkwing Duck.  After that, Chip and Dale are actually pretty good at finding things out, and Gadget is great at building stuff that'd be useful at getting the word out.  Which is good, because she's got tough competition in Spider-Man.  Sure, the guy isn't part of any teams himself, but the guy is a pretty legit superhero by himself, and he's good with people.  He's also been part of teams such as the Avengers and hung out with the X-Men and depending on version even worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. once or twice, which means he's got connections in a world that sees team ups on a pretty regular basis.

Event 42: Raiding the Great Maple Syrup Reserve
Gold.  Oil.  Maple Syrup.  What is the one thing that all three of these items have in common?  They are considered so valuable that nations hold on to strategic reserves of them.  Well, in the case of maple syrup, it's more like nation, singular.  And while plots to capture gold reserves or oil reserves are old hat, we're going north in order to raid the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Reserve!  First our competitors will have to make their way through the mysterious and exotic land of Quebec in order to reach the reserve, then they must make they way past the crack Mountie guard before making their way back to the border with as much of the liquid gold as they can carry.  Or, just make it at all.  Of course, if both contestants get caught, then the winner will be the one who can talk themselves into the lesser sentance.

With our first contestant, we have Twitch Raids Canada as a humble prayer is offered up to Lord Helix.  How well will this infiltration work with basically everything happening randomly?  Probably not well.  But on the other hand, they also probably won't get far enough to get a heavy sentance if they get caught either.  And if this is pulled off, it will be the biggest triumph of crowdsourced gaming yet.  Against this we have a lone speaker of the truthiness.  An eagle eyed reported, willing to brave Soviet Canuckistan in the name of Bald Eagles, Apple Pie, and the Maple Syrup Produces of the State of Vermont who are the innocent victims of the sinister Canadian Reserve.  Stephen Colbert takes to the field in order to stop this conspiracy once and for all.

Event 43: Excelling at Sports That Don't Even Exist Yet
Anyone can excel at a sport.  Only the best can excel at sports that don't even exist yet.  As this event really speaks for itself, I'll jump straight to the contestants.

You know who can excel at sports that don't exist yet?  Time Travellers.  Stocke can use his time travelling ability in order to learn sports that don't exist yet, then go back in time in order to play them.  How can one possibly fight against that?  Well, by being one of the braver and more ridiculous Monty Python characters.  Sir Lancelotte the Brave is no stranger to strange things, and he'll be game to do just about anything.

Event 44: Cat Bathing
Barring some kind of feline abberation, cats take poorly to being bathed.  Really, incredibly, poorly.  In fact, the only people who tend to deal worse with baths than cats are the people who attempt to bathe them.  So, this fine contest presents two sucke... er, contestants with the job of giving a cat a bath without harming it or otherwise incapacitating it.

Our first contestant is one of the few people who might actually be able to get a cat to calm down enough to take a bath without bloodshed.  Mr. Rodgers is known for being able to get congress to shell out cash with calm words and a gentle demeanour, so how much harder can it be to calm a bathing cat?  Against this we have Samus, who was raised by bird people which probably isn't going to help.  On the other hand, she has nice thick futuristic armour, so hey, she's not gonna get hurt.

Event 45: Manliness Contest
It's hard to define exactly what manliness is, but much like the Supreme Courts definition of porn, who know it when you see it.  In this event, two contestants are going to be giving us their best take on manliness and the winner takes all.

Our first contestant comes into this with the advantage of actually being a man.  Of course, for most of us, being a man doesn't really mean you're manlier than anyone else.  I mean, just consider Rydia against Edward, where the former has to literally slap some sense into the latter, as a child.  But Rand Al'Thor does a bunch of manly things like conquoring nations, leading armies, and doing reckless stunts because he can't possibly get horrifically injured by them, right?  He also does some of the more positive stuff too.  I mean, he's no Perrin, but not everyone can be strapping blacksmiths whose muscles probably have smaller muscles.  Against this, we have Vin, who...  actually is pretty similar to Rand what with the whole badass fighter with powers beyond most who faces threats both mundane and divine.  This should be a pretty good match.

Event 46: Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse
It's a really common tale at this point.  Somehow, doesn't really matter how, zombies show up and their growth rate is too fast for anyone to cope.  Society breaks down, and only ragtag groups of survivors are left.  There may be an acceptable end where a group can actually survive and thrive, or it may only be a question of how long you last before the last fading light of civilization falls.  Regardless, here the goal is simple, live the longest.  If both contestants live, then whoever prospers the most.  And living can be accomplished by personal skill at survival, or even just being good at finding and getting accepted in with a skilled group of survivors.

Our first contestant can shoot energy beams from his hands and routinely beats up people who can destroy cars with their bare hands.  Yup, Akuma is probably not going to be taken down by zombies while he's awake.  And he's crap at playing nice with others, so he's not gonna have someone to watch his back.  On the other hand, I'm pretty sure he's some kind of demon, so who knows if he even needs to sleep.  Against him we have Lucille Ball, who is, uh...  not going to be so good at dealing with things herself.  But if she can find others, she will be infinitely better at getting help from them than Akuma would be.

Event 47: Duel Arcane
Any peasant can fight with a weapon.  Heck, there's a lot of fighting styles that exist mostly because they use peasant tools in order to kill since they couldn't use anything more lethal.  This is the more refined duel arcane, where only the mystical and the magical need apply.  It doesn't matter how you use it so long as it can apply under the moniker of arcane.

First up is someone with no magical power whatsoever.  However, Mirror B is known for his use of pokemon, and pokemon do pack a pretty mystical punch.  This means that he'll be limited to special attacks only, but that should be good enough.  Against this, we've got our Red Shirt squad, reporting for duty.  They've got a major advantage if you accept that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, at which point they might well be able to claim their phasers.  On the other hand, if you don't allow tech, then even phaserless red shirts are, surprisingly, not without recourse as the various Enterprises run into lots of unexplained phenomenon, lots of it deadly.  To Redshirts.  But if our Red Shirt brigade can have some survivors of their attempt to harness the power of the MacGuffins, and can turn it onto Mirror B, then they may well pull out the win.

Event 48: Winning a War
We've dealt with raising armies, but now we're dealing with how to not only use the armies, but using the resources to keep them running.  Yup, it's for us to have a war, with things like several objectives to aim for and lines of supply.  Whoever can either render the other side unable to fight or convince them to surrender first.

Mog comes into this without any knowledge of country sized matters, but he does have skill in small unit combat as his first appearance shows.  Aside from that, he probably won't be super good at this.  But, he will be sane, which will be a step up over his opponent, Queen Zeal.  But, Queen Zeal makes up for her insanity with three notable strengths.  First, she is legit royalty and wasn't always crazy, so she probably knows what you need to run a war properly.  Second, her kingdom flies, making it very hard to invade unless you can fly too.  Third, she is crazy, yes, but that craziness also means she won't surrender, period.  Of course, if you press her enough she probably will call upon the power of Lavos which will ruin everyone, but will ruin the folks with the flying kingdom more, so that's a kind of Phyrric win condition.

Round 2-A

Event 33: Raising an Army
Depending on when and where you are, raising an army isn't always the easiest of tasks.  Regardless, in this competition, both of our contestants have to raise the best, and biggest, army that they're capable of.  At the end, the better army will be determined by having them fight.  And since this is raising an army, and not leading an army, the contestants won't be leading, instead it'll depend on their managing to recruit suitable leadership along with the rest of the army.

The Rock comes into this with, perhaps not the best grasp of how to raise an actual army, but with loads of charisma and, as his last challenge shows, a decent chunk of cash.  This means he should be able to get a fairly loyal force, with no guarantees of how good they'll be.  Meanwhile his opponent, Seto Kaiba, not only seems to always be dealing with shady stuff, but he can clearly outspend The Rock since his defining trait is "I have Money".  His troops may not be excessively loyal, but he does have experience hiring guards, so how hard can an army be?

Event 34: Frightening Small Children
Kids, as we all know, are supposed to be easily frightened.  In fact, it is the job of monsters to scare kids silly.  In this contest, we pit two of our contestants to see which of them can better scare a group of small children in the amount of time they're given.

The interesting thing this time is that both contestants are pretty close to being the same damned person this week.  And neither of them are all that good at scaring children.  First up, we have the leader of the Gurren Brigade, Kamina the man.  Who...  doesn't scare a single child he comes across.  While he seems like he could try if he felt he needed to, he defaults way too easily to being heroic and inspiring and it's hard to tell if, after scaring the children, he might not just have the urge to unfrighten them.  Of course, against this is Captain Gordon, Defender of Earth.  Who is about as manly and heroic as Kamina.  And can compare demon stories to counter Kamina's Beastmen stories.  Though...  they're not very scary demons...

Event 35: Conversing Only with Song/Movie Titles
This is the classic test of both cultural awareness and quick thinking.  Using only the title of works of art, so songs, movies, plays, books, games, you name it, you have to try and keep up a semi-sensible conversation.  This means weird tangents are fine, but complete non-sequitirs are not.  Also not allowed is saying something that is not a title, or taking more than five minutes to come up with a reply.

Toph may not be an improvisational haiku battlemaster, but she's pretty good at trading quips with the guy who is.  Really, she's coming into this with a pretty decent cultural knowlege and a super quick wit.  Her one biggest flaw is that books are mostly going to be an unknown to her, which means a whole catagory of potential titles she'll be hard pressed to use.  Against this we have Finn from Adventure Time.  I'm going to admit to not knowing much about him, but being a heroic type, I'm going to assume he's also quick witted, though I don't know what his cultural knowlege and skill in wordplay will be,

Event 36: Killing Everyone
Look, the title says it all.  The goal here is to kill everyone, no exceptions.  Whoever can do it the fastest wins.  And if neither can do it, whoever gets the higher kill count wins.

We're off to a good start with Buffy, better known as the Slayer.  Sure, she mostly just goes after vampires, but the fact that she's so good at downing superhuman threats with pieces of wood means that vanilla humans shouldn't be a huge threat.  Really, her biggest problem is that she might just refuse to do it, in which case, her score might be capped at those she will go after.  Or just, y'know, to vamps.  That said, she was going to have a hard time pulling it off anyways, since she's up against Mordin Solus, a guy who has on his resume, among other things, worked on the newest version of the genophage.  For those who don't know, this is essentially a genocide plague, that can be seeded on a planet from orbit.  So...  yeah.  That's just if he wants to be slow and sophisticated about it.  Killing Everyone is easily within his grasp.

Event 37: Hotness Contest
So I hear there's some kind of tournament going on where people vote on who they think is the hottest.  Welp, in honour of that thing, we're randomly replacing the traditional RandoTourney Beauty Pageant with our own Hotness Contest.  Vote for whoever you think is more attractive!

And, in honour of the Nama's we've got ourselves a complete sausagefest going on here, but what a sausagefest as we've got a pair of immortals up for your viewing pleasure.  First up is the eternally young Spike, who also has that vampire thing going on.  Meanwhile, against him we've got Mr. Nuke 'Em Til They Glow himself, Mohandas Ghandi, fresh from his eight thousand year reign over India and it's assorted conquored territories.

Event 38: Detonating an Asteroid in Space
This just in.  NASA reports that there is a bigass meteor heading towards Earth.  If it lands, all life as we know it will be doomed to extinction.  While we do have a cadre of trained professional astronauts, we're not going to be using them in favour of these two random guys.  And, just because using untrained labour isn't crazy enough, we're gonna make them compete too.  Each saviour will be loaned a spaceship if they can't get one of their own, as well as enough explosives and a rig to set them up with.  Again...  if they don't have their own way to deal with a giant space rock.  If it matters, anyone who can cast the spell Meteor can use it, but it's pretty much the opposite of helpful in this match since it'll just make this sucker drop faster.

Our first contestant is a man without memory.  Ringabel takes to the skies in order to save the Earth, but he does come complete with instinctive knowledge of how to fly.  Granted, it's mostly airships, but he is well trained and he might well be able to translate it to spacecraft.  After that, all he has to do is finish the job.  Given how popular both heros and astronauts are with the ladies, he's sure to motivated to finish this job.  His opponent is, well, actually an astronaut with a rating in space combat.  Yup, Gai Daigouji has both the skills and the training to knock this one out of the park with ease... if he does it by the book.  Odds are, he's not gonna want to do that, and is instead going to grab an Aesti Valis and fire up the Distortion Field in order to hit the meteor with a Gekigan Flare.

Event 39: WWF Wrestling
Everyone knows that WWF Wrestling isn't proper wrestling, it's more like a soap opera for guys.  That said, in this competition, it's expected that the contestants will follow everything but the script.  Which means that folding chairs are godly weapons, and egging on the crowd and getting them to cheer for you actually does make you stronger until you finally pin down your opponent.  Or, they manage to run away from you and stay outside the ring long enough for the ref to officially declare them a wuss and a loser.  Either or.

First up is someone who should know how to work a crowd what with his bardic training.  Which is good because Edward certainly can't fight.  Sadly, his trademark Hide skill won't be of much use here because it'll lead to him both pissing off the crowd and getting declared with a loss.  But, if he can get the crowd behind him, he's got a chance.  Especially since the universe seems keen on giving him those chances.  After all, last time he was up against a child, and now he's up against a woman.  Now that I'm done with the pro-Edward side of this, I can now point out that his opponent is less woman, and more goddess.  Specifically, Palutena who is prooobably going to be a fan favourite.  And now that she's enthusiastically joined Smash, we know that she's going to be good at brawling, grabs, and she'll come with a fan chant ready to go.  In addition, she'll be used to grabbing weirder weapons than folding chairs.  And just to add insult to injury, her Eye of Palutena means that poor Edward won't even be able to hide.

Event 40: Dealing with a Used Car Salesman
Sooner or later, everyone will have to get a new ride.  And let's face it, most people won't be able to afford a new one, because who has that kind of scratch?  (Well...  our two contestants in this case, but since they got this event, now they get to join in the fun)  This means facing the friendly faced con-men and hucksters we know as used car salesmen.  The folks out to sell you cars of questionable quality for the highest tag and most useless add-ons they can manage.  In this case, the winner will be awarded to the contestant who manages to get the highest quality ride for the cheapest price.

Our first contestant probably doesn't know a whole lot about cars, but he is shown to be clear headed, able to argue effectively, and able to read people.  TG Cid is here to show why reading people is better than specific know how, especially since before we had used car salesmen, we had horse traders who filled a fairly similar role.  Or, in this case, Chocobo Traders.  Against this, we have a competitor who doesn't deal much with cars himself, but does have a lot of experience fishing them out of lakes, rivers, lava, and the emptiness of space.  Lakitu should know his cars, though his people knowledge may be lacking.  But, this does mean it'll be harder to sell him a lemon, and he won't need much in the way of coverage since he's his own towing company.

Round 1-I

Event 29: Dog Grooming
Almost anyone can, with a bit of time and effort, wash a dog.  In fact, a lot of them can get downright agreeable about it once you actually get them in the water and soap them up.  What not everyone can do is take an utter mess of a dog, and turn them into a beautiful specimen that is a delight to behold and at home in the most fashionable of kennels.  Today, that is the trial we put or contestants through.

Our first contestant may not have much in the way of grooming skills, but that will make no difference for Gai Daigouji will groom with the BURNING PASSION OF A MAN'S SOUL!!!  Yes, this Aesti Valis pilot will show that hot bloodedness can be used for more than just piloting robots!  Against this we have the more level headed Ruby who has the advantage of out powering the dog by a lot as one of the four divine dragons of Althena.  Of course, Ruby also spends a lot of her time as, well, something really resembling a cat.  Which means even if she is hot about the grooming aspect of all this, she may go about it in a way wholly unacceptable to a dog.  Which, seems like the wild card of this match.  Can Ruby be more competant than Gai's Gekigan-Grooming?

Event 30: Mecha Piloting
This is pretty much just a duel, except that instead of personally duking it out, both competitors have to get into mecha in order to do it.  Both competitors can use whatever mecha they can get their hands on, and if they can't then a mass production Gespenst (with no stat boosts purchased) will be loaned to them.  Fighting must be done only with the mechs, and the last mech standing is the winner.

Our first competitor likes fighting AND gears, but sadly we don't ever get to see him pilot one.  That said, fan favourite Big Joe takes to the stage, and given his ability to get his hands on high quality Zeboim parts, it shouldn't be too surprising if this guy manages to get a standard model gear and soups that thing up as well as it can be souped up.  The only question then is, how well can he fight?  Given that his fans probably will have gears or other mecha of their own, their reaction to the fight will be legal.  Meaning that this is a battle that will be exciting and dynamic!  His competitor is a bit of a conundrum.  Samus takes to the stage, but there's two options for her.  First, she's from a world that's advanced enough, and she's had enough training that she can probably get and use some pretty decent mecha.  But, if we use the Super Robot Wars precedent, then she's really not that different from Tekkaman Blade who also uses a suit of powered armour pretty similar to Samus' Gravity Suit.  Which means that she's got the option to pick any of her suits that aren't the Zero Suit (and really, why would she want that one?) and go to town with them.

Event 31: Hide and Seek
Every child and person who once was a child knows this game.  In this case, we're going to go with two versions.  One where they each have a turn at finding each other, and then one where they take turns at finding a dozen children in a nice, safe, forest.  Lowest combined time wins.

Both of our competitors this week have some special skills that are very relelvant to this hunt.  Our first competitor is Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.  He brings to the table considerable amounts of psychological knowledge combined with a ruthless hunter's intensity and attention to detail.  If there is something to find, he WILL find it.  Aaaaand, we have a team comprised of Yuri and Terra to take custody of the children once they are found so there's no 'accidental' dippings.  Against this we have Stocke, who is not just a secret agent, but a time-travelling secret agent, which I am told is, after James Bond, the best kind of secret agent.  And his time travel is the sort where he can use his secret agent skills to find everyone, then go back in time to before the contest starts and restart everything with knowledge of where they all are.

Event 32: The Metal Gear Challenge
Lots of games seem to have these.  Stealth sections where, for whatever reason, weapons simply aren't useful and getting caught will kick you back to the start of the section.  Or, if it's a less good game, will simply kill you.  Regardless, we've stuck a macguffin in the centre of a secure facility with a few hidden key cards that make it less secure and the traditional man sized air ducts perfect for climbing around in, and then we stuffed it full of guards of dubious intelligence.  First one out with the macguffin wins.

Our first competitor is more of a fighter than a sneaker, but this won't be the first time he's had to learn a skill on the fly.  That's right, we have Ichigo Kurosaki, noted for being that rare beast, a mortal Shinigami.  His combat skills are top notch and he's hot headed enough to use them often, so this'll be a challenge for him.  Fortunately for him, he's learned how to harness his spiritual powers to do things like run on air and use the incredibly useful Flash Step technique which lets him move from place to place without really having to cover the ground inbetween.  Against this he's facing Seto Kaiba, specifically the Abridged version of Kaiba who has access to tons of high tech gadgets (though they're all oddly meant for playing a children's card game) and has so much money that he can screw the rules.  But will rule screwage be a useful ability here?

Team Event 4: Airship Combat
Ah, airships.  Such wondrous creations of artifice and magic, allowing people to soar in settings where airplanes are just plain anachronistic.  And, of course, there is one thing that comes to the minds of most people when considering these majestic crafts: making them fight each other.  So yes, each team is going to get an Arcadian Battle Airship, complete with the need for only four people to man them, and the ship that stays aloft longer wins.  So, what are the roles these teams have?  Well, there's five roles.  First up we have the captain, a mostly informal role that's meant for the team leader and can be used concurrently with any other role.  The other roles are Pilot, Engineer, Gunner, and Repairman.  Each of these is pretty simple, but let's go over them.  The Pilot's role is to steer the Airship, trying to get into a good position for their gunner to fire while avoiding the guns of the opposing ship.  The Engineer is responsible for keeping the engine running, and making sure the power is moved to the different engines and guns as the others need them.  The Gunner has control over the different batteries on the ship, being able to fire the guns at their opponent.  And the Repairman has the job of fixing any damage to the ship, as well as being able to assist the Engineer or Gunner if there is no damage.  As for the field, it's just above a mountain range with a valley halfway through the combat zone, complete with it being partially cloudy so there is some cover to take advantage of.

The first team will likely end up with Gary Oak as its captain.  Mostly because he's the only one to be that eagre to be in charge.  But it's not like he's that terrible a choice, since he's generally pretty competant.  Odds are good he'll probably end up at the guns, using his Pokemon to give him an edge there.  Their weakest link will probably be Fox Mulder who, despite being fairly creative and capable, is something of a loose cannon and doesn't have any special skills for this competition.  However he will probably be put either on the wheel or in the engine room, both places where he should be competant.  Next up is the heart of the team, Michael Carpenter, a man colloquially known as the Fist of God.  Sadly, outside of being under some divine protection and his knack for being in the right place at the right time, his divine and combat powers will be mostly useless in this contest.  On the other hand his mundane powers, being charismatic and inspiring and being really good at building and fixing things, will make him a shoe-in for the role of Repairman.  And this brings us to the best asset Team One has, the brain of the outfit, the Sleeping Dragon of the Three Kingdoms, Zhuge Liang.  The best strategist in a work full of brilliant strategists, he even manages to turn his own death into a tactical advantage.  So, yeah, he's the guy the Suikoden writers were thinking about when they wrote down the Silverburgs.  Heck, he's even reknown as an inventor, so he can probably fit as either the Engineer or as the Pilot in order to best use terrain and timing.  Regardless, if cleverness can come into play, he's got a good chance of using good tactics to his team's advantage.

The second team is coming into this almost a man down.  This isn't to say that Morte is going to be dead weight.  He's got a sharp brain on him, and he'll do the best he can to help.  But unfortunately, his best weapon here, his taunts, are going to be going up against a team where half of its members will be resistant to them (Michael Carpenter is just that humble, while Zhuge Liang also excels at them.)  That said, he may still be able to work the helm or engine room, especially given who he has as backup for advice if he needs it.  One of the best people you could have on your team for an Airship Duel, it's Bacchus D-79, who is both an Engineer by trade and skilled with cannons, making him a perfect fit for two of the positions on his ship.  Backing up these two, is the noted hero He-Man, who is taking a break from saving Eternia to join this crew, and with his strength, he'll probably be in charge of the repairs, being able to easily manhandle broken parts back into place.  And finally, on the helm is that famed Pokemon Gangster, Mirror B. If he wants his pokemon in play, he'll probably be in the Engine Room where they might help boost power.  And if not, his having a body means he'll probably prove better on the helm than Morte.

Regardless, these teams both have a shot depending on what will win the battle.  Will Zhuge Liang and his superior tactics take the day, or will Bacchus D-79 and his superior ability to operate an airship prove the deciding factor?
