Writeup Graveyard / Paine (vs Roland)
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:24:18 PM »
A guy that changes into a man-eating demon, huh.  Well, it's not that different from the men back home for Paine.  Roland might look fearsome in his demonic form, but he's still more of a poet than a warrior and while he's durable and has some spellcasting prowess, magic is not his true forte.  In the end he's an ineffective fighter, little match for the seasoned Paine or the power of Dress Spheres.  Whatever route Paine takes here, she has little to fear from Roland's assaults or any healing he might employ, smashing him with the disdain any true warrior has for an ineffectual sod like Roland.

Writeup Graveyard / Articuno (vs Sync)
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:18:00 PM »
The majestic bird of ice thoroughly smashed its first opponent, but the nihilistic Sync presents a different challenge altogether.  The emo God General can crush even the durable Articuno swiftly if given time to access his Mystic Artes, so great care must be taken not to give him that opportunity.  Articuno's best chance lies in Agility, allowing it to readily outpace its opponent and reverse the edge in speed Sync holds.  Pressing this critical advantage to defeat Sync before he can exploit Akashiec Torment's window of opporunity is the key, and a victory of nature over the forces of emo to remember.

Welcome to the No Holds Barred Music Tournament of Doom!  The next several weeks will pit a full 256 of songs selected by you, the viewers, against each other in a happy fun time tournament for everyone!  The rules are simple!
1. Vote for the one you like best!
2. Actually have heard both songs!
That's it!  You do NOT have to have played the game in question, just have heard the song somehow.  You may find these websites useful in this endeavor: Galbadia Hotel and Blue Laguna.  I cannot guarantee every song listed here is thusly available, but a vast, vast majority should be.  Arrangements for the exceptions can be looked into upon request.  If you are uncertain of what a song is, be sure to ask as well!  After all, not every name here has been cross referenced for accurate naming, and not all names accurately reflect when and where they play in their game's of origin!
Each pool will be open for a full week from their date of posting.  Many pools will be running at once for the sake of the tournament not taking all summer, so be sure to double check if you have voted in them all!
On with the show!

Tournaments / New (Old) Music Tourney for a new (old) age- Nominations
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:52:19 PM »
As some of you may (sadly) remember, once there was a music quiz which ignored the puny tenants of genre and type, which compared songs on the strength of their fandom and quality!
There was much bitching, and it never returned.

But I always liked that idea more than "PICK THE BEST BATTLE SONG!!".  After all, comparing songs that are doing the same thing leads to one clear victor.  The best of many different classes of music, however, might end up a little different!  Or not, who knows.

Anyway, back to the idea.  What I would like from you, the viewers, is A list of twenty songs you'd like to see in this tournament.  While I do ask you stick to RPGs simply for the sake of that being what people will know around here, any song within those games is fair game.  The precise format of the bracket hasn't even crossed my mind yet, but will likely involve tiers related to how many people nom what.  I can't guarantee every song will be used, or that I won't use some songs I pick myself to fill out a bracket.  After all, I can't read your minds.

Oh, yes.  If people express interest, we can also do a "Failure" bracket.  If you want one, say  so and maybe make a 5-song list of ideas.
No deadlines here, since it's a very idle and crazy idea.  So don't dilly-dally!

Writeup Graveyard / Suzu (vs Allen!)
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:49:15 PM »
The ways of the ninja are mysterious.  Speed and agility beyond mortal ken, an intimate pact with nature letting them blend into the shadows and summon forth the strangest of beasts, even the unfathomable skill to duplicate themselves without magic.  While a fool with love in his heart and little else fuelling him on the battlefield doesn't really call for any of these talents, Suzu certainly knows something about putting on a show.  Lightning fast strikes followed by a Summoning of Jiraiya?  A humiliating victory involving Suzu taunting her foe until he breaks down and cries?  Suzu has so many options, and perhaps no one will be able to guess which one she will use!

611
Writeup Graveyard / Chuck (vs Mist)
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:39:25 PM »
Chuck's gotta be feeling kinda scummy, fighting against a little girl like Mist.  But she did grow up around a bunch of mercenaries, she probably knows what she's getting into.  And Chuck wouldn't be much of a man if he didn't give it his all either.  Mist doesn't have much muscle backing her sword swings, but the real challenge for Chuck is breaking through her healing staff.  But he's got that covered; as he gets hurt his ARM will get stronger and stronger, and the Moon medium's Intrude will let him press that for all it's worth!  It might take a while, but perseverance is its own reward!

612
Writeup Graveyard / Mohs (vs Axel)
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:28:40 PM »
What's this?  A demon thinks he can match the might of the Grand Maestro?!  A foul, twisted creature from the depths of the Neatherworld thinks he can stand before the prophecies of the Score!  What madness this is!  Oh, this Dark Hero will beg for whatever mercy is granted his kind before Mohs is through.  The elements shall ravage his body, every fiber of his being shall quake in fear of Mohs' immense presense!  It is written, it is inevitable, Mohs shall be victorious!

613
Writeup Graveyard / Balthier (vs Bloodbane)
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:17:10 PM »
Goddess was an interesting diversion, but the game has just begun.  Balthier wouldn't be any kind of Sky Pirate if he didn't leave this thing with a worthy treasure, and Bloodbane should provide a fantastic opporunity.  It is said that within the dragon's foul gullet lies the legendary treasure of Hel, the Demon Sword Levantine.  All Balthier has to do to claim it is slay the dragon, a fitting task for any leading man.  His plan is simple; go fast on the trigger, make good use of his shield and armor, and keep on shooting.  And if that doesn't work, well, his name's not Balthier.

Writeup Graveyard / Kornell (vs Nino)
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:16:19 PM »
Children.  Why did it have to be children?  But no matter!  Kornell, trusted lieutenant of Emelious, won't let even his mortal enemies stand between him and capturing the glory of a Middle title!  Fortunately, Nino is a cross between two archetypes; the waif-like child and the squishy mage.  The net result is an opponent that explodes into fine paste when hit with anything more substantial than a limp-wristed assault, meaning Kornell can end this fight quickly before any horse-play can interfer in his inevitable victory!  Never again shall Kornell suffer the indignity of defeat!

618
Writeup Graveyard / Yuri (vs Space Pope)
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:09:21 PM »
Few could say they've ever truly prepared for facing down the unchallenged heads of galaxy spanning religions before.  But if Space Popes are anything like Space Gods, Yuri's got nothing to worry about.  Sergius might favor a slightly different style, banking on his incredible magical endurance and Curse status to see him through, but Yuri's got that covered just the same.  Careful juggling between Seraphic Radiance and Amon should allow him to weather the Patriarch down safely while Mind/Body Revival keeps him from being in too much danger from Sergius' paltry damage.  A bit boring perhaps, but it gets the job done and lets Yuri move on to bigger fish from the galactic ocean.

619
Writeup Graveyard / Lucia (vs Gepetto)
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:20:29 PM »
Fortune teller extraordinair Lucia graces the arena with her presence once again!  Tee hee.  Oooh, it's Gepetto!  After all those months of sweaty adventuring, Lucia knows all his tricks!  Uh-huh, this will be easier than cookies!  All Lucia has to do is give her fan a nice little scent of Rage, and it'll leave the creepy old man too dizzy to do anything!  It'll be a revealing showdown, no doubt about it, and just what everyone will want to see!

Writeup Graveyard / Berle (vs Kratos)
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:10:45 PM »
Angelically themed secret societies secretly bent on mass destruction?  Berle knows all about that.  This is just the start of the things Berle knows about Kratos Aurion.  He's all too familiar with swordsmen whose attacks go on forever, locking their foes into an unending chain of blows.  And naturally, he's fully capable of handling those sorts of threats.  A flurry of small blows is immensely blunted by Berle's impressive defenses, and even the most determined assault will be stopped cold by Meta-Guard.  Resisting even Kratos' meager magical backup, Berle can pick off his foe at leisure, a decisive victory for this brand new season.

SEX!

Now that I have your attention... oh wait, this is about sex.  Anyway, an intereting handout based on a pamphlet a professor of mine has been writing, or so he says.  His title seems a bit optimistic (I'm pretty sure men far over their teens fall into lots of these), but it's intereting and people seemed interested enough that just transcribing the entire thing seems simpler.  If there's typos, screw you guys, it's long.
Warning: Seriously, it's about sex.

A Teenager's Guide to Women
(Some common errors to avoid)
M. Walraven

1. NOT KISSING FIRST.  Avoiding her lips and diving straight for the erogenous zones makes her feel like you're paying by the hour and trying to get your money's worth by cutting out nonessentials.  A properly passionate kiss is the ultimate form of foreplay.

2. BLOWING TOO HARD IN HER EAR.  Admit it, some kid at school told you girls love this.  Well, there's a difference between being erotic and blowing as if you're trying to extinguish the candles on your 50th birthday cake.  That hurts!

3. NOT SHAVING.  You often forget you have a porcupine strapped to your chin, which you rake repeatedly across your partner's face and thighs.  When she turns her head from side to side, it's not passion, it's avoidance.

4. SQUEEZING HER BREASTS.  Most men act like a housewife testing a melon for ripeness when they get their hands on a pair.  Stroke, caress, and smooth them.

5. BITING HER NIPPLES.  Why do men fasten onto a woman's nipples, and then clamp down like they're trying to deflate her body via her breasts?  Nipples are highly sensitive. They can't stand up to chewing.  Lick and suck them gently.  Flicking your tongue across them is good.  Pretending they're a doggie toy isn't.

6. TWIDDLING HER NIPPLES.   Stop doing that thing where you twiddle the nipples between the finger and thumb like you're trying to find a radio station in a hilly area.  Focus on the whole breast, not just the exclaimation points.

7. IGNORING THE OTHER PARTS OF HER BODY.  A woman is not a highway with just three turnoffs: Beastville East and West, and the Midtown Tunnel.  There are vast areas of her body, which you've ignored far too often as you go bombing straight into downtown Vagina.  So start paying some attention.

8. GETTING THE HAND TRAPPED.  Poor manual dexterity in the underskirt region can result in tangled fingers and underpants.  If you're going to be that aggressive, just ask her to take the damned things off.

9. LEAVING HER A LITTLE PRESENT.  Condom disposal is the man's responsibility.  You wore it, you store it.

10. ATTACKING THE CLITORIS.  Direct pressure is very unpleasant, so gently rotate your fingers along the side of the clitoris.

11. STOPPING FOR A BREAK.  Women, unlike men, don't pick up where they left off.  If you stop, they plummet back to square one very fast.  If you can tell she's not there, keep going at all costs, numb jaw or not.

12. UNDRESSING HER AWKWARDLY.  Women hate looking stupid, but stupid she will look when naked at the waist with a sweater stuck over her head.  Unwrap her like an elegant present, not a kid's toy.

13. GIVING HER A WEDGIE DURING FOREPLAY.  Stroking her gently through her panties can be very sexy.  Pulling the material up between her thighs and yanking it back and forth is not.

14. BEING OBSESSED WITH THE VAGINA.  Although most men can find the clitoris without maps, they still believe the vagina is where it's all at.  no sooner is your hand down there than you're trying to stuff stolen banknotes up a chimney.  This is okay in principle, but if you're not careful, it cna hurt- so don't get carried away.  It's best to pay ore attention to her clitoris and the exterior of the vagina at first, then gently slip a finger inside her and see if she likes it.

15. MASSAGING TOO ROUGHLY.  You're attempting to give her a sensual, relaxing massage to get her in the mood.  Hands and fingertips are okay; elbows and knees are not.

16. UNDRESSING PREMATURELY.  Don't force the issue by stripping before she's at least made some move toward getting your stuff off, even if it's just undoing a couple of buttons.

17. TAKING YOUR PANTS OFF FIRST.  A man in socks and underpants is at his worst.  Lose the socks first.

18. GOING TOO FAST.  When you get to the penis-in-vagina situation, the worst thing you can do is pump away like an industrial power tool- she'll soon feel like an assembly line worker made oboslete by your techonology.  Build up slowly, with clean, straight, alternating thrusts.

19. GOING TOO HARD.  If you bash your great triangular hipbones into her thigh or stomach, the pain is equal to two weeks horseback riding concentrated into a few short moments.

20. COMING TOO SOON.  Every man's fear, with reason.  If you shoot before you see the whites of her eyes, make sure you have a backup plan to ensure her pleasure too.  Or you might find yourself alone with your hand the next time you're feeling amorous.

21. NOT COMING SOON ENOUGH.  It may appear to you that humping for an hour without climaxing is the mark of a sex god, but to her it's more likely the mark of a numb vagina.  At least buy some interesting wall hangings, so she has something to hold her interest while you're playing Marathon Man.

22. ASKING IF SHE HAS COME.  You really ought to be able to tell.  Most women make noise.  But if you really don't know, don't ask.

23. PERFORMING ORAL SEX TOO GENTLY.  Don't act like a giant cat at a saucer of milk.  Get your whole mouth down there, and concentrate on gently rotating or flicking your tongue on her clitoris.  Lap like a cat, just don't act like one.

24. NUDGING HER HEAD DOWN.  Men persist in doing this until she's eyeball-to-penis, hoping that it will lead very swiftly to mouth-to-penis.  All women hate this.  It's about three steps from being dragged to the cave by their hair.  If you want her to use her mouth, use yours; trying talking seductively to her.  Or even better, do her first, you'll be surprised what a women will do after a man has had his face between her legs.

25. NOT WARNING HER BEFORE YOU CLIMAX.  Sperm tastes like seawater mixed with egg white.  Not everybody likes that taste.  When she's performing oral sex, warn her before you come so she can do what's necessary.

26. MOVING AROUND DURING FELLATIO.  Don't thrust.  She'll do all the moving during fellatio.  You just lie there and enjoy it.  And don't grab her head.  Women don't like that.

27. TAKING ETIQUETTE ADVICE FROM PORN MOVIES.  In X-rated movies, women seem to love it when men ejaculate all over them.  In real life, it just means more laundry to do.  So don't do it, unless asked.

28. MAKING HER RIDE ON TOP FOR AGES.  Aksing her to be on top is fine.  Lying there grunting while she does all the hard work is not.  Caress her gently, so that she doesn't feel quite so much like the captain of a schooner.  And let her have a rest.  Top is a fine place for women to control their own orgasm, just don't make it into work.

29. ATTEMPTING ANAL SEX AND PRETENDING IT WAS AN ACCIDENT.  This is how men earn a reputation for not being able to follow directions.  If you want to put it there, ask her first.  And don't think that being drunk is an excuse.

30. TAKING PICTURES.  When a man says, "Can I take a photo of you?" she'll hear the words, "_to show my buddies."  At least let her have custody of them.

31. NOT BEING IMAGINATIVE ENOUGH.  Imagination is anything from drawing patterns on her back to pouring honey on her and licking it off.  Fruit, vegetables, ice and feathers are all handy props; hot candles wax and permanent dye are a no-no.  Whipped cream is the best for giving head, so you might want to have some near by.

32. SLAPPING YOUR STOMACH AGAINST HERS.  There is no less erotic noise.  It's as sexy as a belching contest.

33. ARRANGING HER IN STUPID POSES.  If she wants to do advanced yoga in bed, fine, but unless she's a Romanian gymnast, don't get too ambitious.  Ask yourself if you want a sexual partner with snapped hamstrings.

34. LOOKING FOR HER PROSTRATE.  Read this carefully: Anal stimulation feels good for men because they have a prostrate.  Women don't.

35. GIVING LOVE BITES.  It is highly erotic to exert some gentle suction to the sides of the neck, if you do it carefully.  No woman wants to have to wear turtlenecks and jaunty scarves for weeks on end.

36. BARKING INSTRUCTIONS.  Don't shout encouragement like a coach with a megaphone.  It's not a big turn-on.

37. TALKING DIRTY.  It makes you sound like a lonely magazine editor calling a 1-900 line.  If she likes nasty talk, she'll let you know.

38. NOT CARING WHETHER SHE COMES.  You have to finish the job.  Keep on trying until you get it right, and she might even do the same for you.  Real men take proper care of their woman's needs.

39. SQUASHING HER.  Men generally weight more than women, so if you lie on her a bit too heavily, she will turn blue.  Use your elbows to support your weight- all the time!

40. THANKING HER.  Never thank a woman for having sex with you.  Your bedroom is not a soup kitchen.

And that's the thing.  Good lord it's a lot of words.

Writeup Graveyard / Joker (vs Ricardo)

The cool head of a lifelong soldier.  That is Joker's tool against the hotblooded mariachi, Ricardo.  The young Mexican's guitar is a deadly instrument, and Ricardo is very skilled with it, but he lacks the training and temperment needed to withstand a prolonged battle.  Joker's command of the fiery arts puts him on even standing with Ricardo in a pitched battle, but Joker's superior patience and sense of timing will allow him to cast his most devestating spells at a prime moment, while the passionate strummer is lost in the heat of battle.  Not fool-proof, perhaps, but it's the sort of odds you can bet on with confidence.

General Chat / Magic

Honestly I just have some free time, but I know there's a few casual players around here, and hey, why not.

Anyway, to kick things off, just one of my decks, since I reference them often enough.  This is, at its core, my oldest deck, one I was using before I fell out of the game originally.  Naturally, it has since been intensely modified and isn't really the same deck, but it operates on the same general ideas.

4 Voice of All
4 Mine Bearer
3 Aurora Griffin
2 Crypt Angel
2 Reveille Squad
2 Serra Angel
2 Voice of Truth
2 Calciderm
Phyrexian Battleflies
Mageta the Lion
Avatar of Hope
Duskrider Peregrine
Desolation Angel
Mortivore
Serra Avenger

4 Disenchant
4 Seal of Doom
4 Terror
2 Damnation
Strength of Lunacy
Pentarch Ward
Dark Banishing
Vindicate
Soul Link

12 Plains
12 Swamps

Total: 71

So yeah, it's a little fat, and the weaknesses of not buying singles kinda shines through.  The gist is really controlling combat.  Lots of protection from color, and everything flying, coupled with plenty of creature kill to take out potential blockers adds up to being pretty hard to stop.  The deck is naturally slow as all hell, so reset buttons abound.  In general, it looks really clunky but oddly is probably my most successful overall deck for some reason.

So yeah!  Everyone else talk!  Now!
