Sunday D&D Interest Check
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:31:02 PM »
Exactly what it sounds like. I'm thinking about running a 4e game on Sundays, because I pretty much have nothing to do on that day of the week.

My entire Sunday is free, morning, afternoon, and night. So if anyone is interested in keeping the Sabbath Holy by playing Satan's Favorite Game, then post itt.

Mildly interested, although you'd have to drag me away from Perfect World first.  And I know nothing of 4th edition.  I have 3rd Edition rules.

Yeah. I'm also only familiar with 3rd.

I'd be tentatively interested in Sunday evenings.

Also, I've played some 4e.

This sounds pretty cool as I'm presently running a 4E campaign, and would love to play in a 4E campaign.  Sorcerers look that neat.  Unfortunately, the day this campaign I'm running is on is typically Sunday.  So I'm out.

Mebbe. At the very least, I could offer a hand in instructing the unenlightened.

I'm mildly interested but 4e is a deal breaker for me. G'luck, VSM.

I'm interested, and Sunday is my freest day at the moment. Can't guarantee round-the-clock availability, but I should always have a few hours in the evening at worst.

4E is pretty win actually from what I have read up.  But no can do since that is Monday for me and I can't afford to quit work to play D&D.

Anyone interested who'd like to learn 4e hit me up in chat sometime. We'll arrange something.

Anyone who actually plays online, I would really like to know what sort of system you use for mapping, because it's pretty darn important in this game.

VSM: My DM just uses MSPaint + Photobucket. Update the map every round. I can show you some examples later, if you want.

I'd personally use Photoshop + Photobucket/Flickr for raw simplicity, since layers make EVERYTHING easier, but he does it, does it effectively and does it quickly, so it works well enough. Anyhow, if you need help teaching or anything, poke me. Still not sure I can play, but sharing the 4E love is something I do so love to do.

I usually handwave most of it and just keep track of how far apart everything is. 4e's more position intensive so I dunno. I've heard good things about a program called Maptools.

Some potential interest, and a general knowledge of how to play 4e here (if a preference for causing TEH BIG DAMAEJS).

Also, heard of a free program called Gametable ( http://gametable.galactanet.com/ ) that a group I'm in used for 4e on at least one occasion, in case it may help?

I'm interested, but I honestly don't know much about D&D at all, I'd be willing to learn though.

I have to admit a certain amount of interest if it is on Sunday.

The nice thing about 4E is that it's fairly simple to learn.  I've got one person in my campaign who was generally helpless with the math in 3.5 (he's just not good with that kind of number manipulation), but has been doing much better with 4E.

Pretty much all the actual complexity in 4th Ed stems in character creation, which, if you start at level 1-2 and have someone helping you out, isn't that big a deal.

Nah.  We just don't let them on to the DL.  You'll notice he's the only member of the group who hasn't migrated here with LFT.

I actually really like 4th ed so far, I find the position-intensiveness really cool and the math is really easy, which makes me happy because it feels like 4th ed is really easy to learn. I also like having actual interesting (damage) skills as a Paladin, which iirc in the editions I played before just doesn't really happen. Position-based also helps with the innate preference for SRPG-style gameplay in my case, but others may not prefer this.

Also, the changing nine alignments to five is really stupid. Hate it.

Fortunately that part is the simplest thing in the world to house-rule. "Hey guys, wanna use 3e alignments? Yeah? Cool."

Well, I have already classified my character as an alignment from 3e anyway. And he's not a Lawful Good Paladin, yay! That's the good thing about the new alignments at least.

Shale: Indeed.  I honestly hate 4e alignments anyway (particular for the insinuation that Good = Law and Evil = Chaos, which is just plain not true).

I will admit, on the other hand, that I do miss some of the fine-tuning potential that 3.5e had.  Being locked into a class...does do that, and true multiclassing (rather than just stealing another class' Paragon Path), frankly, blows. (Four of your 6-7 feats before Level 10, and the payoffs genuinely suck.  Might as well either PP-steal or yank a few powers).

Plus side, fighters are no longer glorified meatshields, and can be genuinely scary on the battlefield.

...Don't get me started on how Item Dailies work in 4e, though.  They're even LESS desirable than 1/day items in 3.5e, seeing as they suck your own dailies to use them, and are often less useful by comparison...

It's....better than 1e's Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic, at least. Yeah, that's all I've got.
