The RPG Strategy League

Home Battlefield Aftermath Background FAQ

Q. What is the Strategy League?

A. The Strategy League is for those who wonder, not whether Flik or Zalbag would prove better in a fight, but rather, would the Hokuten or the Toran Liberation Army prove superior in battle. It is for those who wish not to see two warriors going at each other in some random location or faceless arena, but for those who wish to consider two bodies of men led by those of great intellect and cunning.

Q. So, how does the Strategy League work?

A. The premise is simple. Instead of seasons, there are scenarios. Each scenario will outline a conflict between two groups. There will be background which will usually cover the reasons why these two groups are fighting each other, and will give the circumstances in which the battles will take place, as well as mentioning who is leading each side, both politically and militarilly. Each week there will then be a discription of what exactly is happening, with a piece from the point of view of one of the participants, as well as an overview which will focus on the battles. Then, there's a vote on the outcome, the results of which are seen the following week where the aftermath is shown, and the process starts anew. Being story based instead of tourney style, the scenarios will go for as long as they can sustain themselves, and then they will be concluded, with a new scenario ready to take their place.

Q. What do you mean, story based?

A. Well, for starters, it's to answer some questions before they can even be asked. Questions like, how many men are there in these armies, who's leading them, what sort of terrain are they on. Besides, it's more interesting to think up scenarios to go along with why these armies are battling each other. So, what you end up with is the fact that the Strategy League is a large intereactive fanfic that focuses less on the characters and more on the setting and the battles of the land.

Q. Alright, so how do you determine what happens next?

A. Well, first off, I look at the results of the poll. The choice with the most answers is what happens. However, that's far from the end of it. Given that there's a huge difference between, say, a messanger making a quick run through enemy territory unseen and being a good ways back with a reply at the end of the week, and that same messanger just barely making it at the end of the week, delivering his message and then out of action. The votes for options that don't win influence just how the more popular outcome comes to be. As well, there's space for commentary with the votes, and a particularily good comment on what someone thinks should happen will often also find itself slanting just how something comes to be.

Q. Where do I send more questions I might have?

A. You can send them either to the RPGDL Forums or you can email them to me at tylorh@hotmail.com. Just be sure to put RPGSL or Strategy League in your title.
