Dark Force (PSs) Dark Force vs Scias Scias (BoF4)

Shale
Evil incarnate versus paladin. Dark Force versus ShiningBlade. 20-foot tall demon versus stuttering dog-man.
Up until that last part, it seemed like a match for the ages, too.

Dark Force: 37
Scias: 26

Riou (S2) Riou vs Galcian Galcian (SoA)

Tylor H
Riou was in a bad situation. He may have been faster and his damage with Forgiver Sign was nice, but it wouldn't quite be enough, and Galcian, like all generals in the skies of Arcadia, knew Eternum. However, it is for times like this that Riou had that necessity of the Suikoverse, a strategist. Soon enough Riou and Apple (When asked Shu simply laughed in his face and continued with his profitable betting house.) had started a long planning session. After looking at all of their options, eventually they decided that there was but one hope for Riou. And so they sent Galcian a letter, asking for a most unuasal battle, having a duel not of brawn, but instead of brains. To their surprise, Galcian readily agreed.

And so it was that this match did not take place in the arena at all, but instead upon the verdant fields of Muse. There Dunan's 108 Stars of Destiny were once more united in the cause of seeing their leader prosper. Flik led the cavalry while Viktor took the infantry and Teresa the archers. Mazus led the mages as Maximillian and his knights took the rear. And in the front, with Apple and Nanami by his side, stood Riou, ready to face down whatever Galcian brought to bear.

And that's when Galcian arrived in the Hydra. And no matter how impressive your army may be, it doesn't matter if it can't attack your foe at all.

Riou: 21
Galcian: 35

metroid composite
You know, after immediately writing off Riou vs Galcian, I'm struck by the fact that it's possible Riou could pull it off (Forgiver Sign does deal a lot, and Riou does go first). Oh well; maybe the kid will get lucky enough to avoid a downgrade pool......nah.

Shale
If you say it out loud, "Riou" sounds exactly like "Ryu." And like Ryu in the first round of last season, Suikoden II's True Rune wielder won't live beyond his opponent's first term. Eternum, Fate Storm...a death spell by any other name would still wipe out scrubby PCs.

Lackshmana
Galcian can kill Riou in one turn
with his anti-climactic one hit KO.

But anyone who played the Tir sidequest knows,
Riou can be revived by his True Rune,
and deliver a VERY climactic finisher of his own.

Valvalis (FF4) Valvalis vs Zeromus Zeromus (FF4)

1337 Mastah Limerick
A scantily-clad wind fiend named Valvalis
Had comitted the grossest of fallacies
~~She fought with her boss's boss
~~And soon was at loss
When Big Bang drove her to her shapely knees.

Valvalis: 13
Zeromus: 69

Sir Alex
Zeromus over Valvalis is kind of... obvious, don'tcha think?

Shale
While not the most durable or most powerful of Zemus' Fiends, Valvalis could still put up a solid fight against her master before losing the round. But like any good minion, she values her job more than a moral victory. Zeromus wins by default.

chipstick85@aol.com
Early/Mid game boss vs. Endgame boss.... GGNORETHX

Ryu (BoF1) Ryu vs Piastol Piastol (SoA)

Sage Acrin
A scythe: 48 random battles worth of cash.

A ship to travel in, so she could hunt bounties: 127 random battles worth of cash.

Gaining more and more power, so that she could try repeatedly (And, admitably, still fail every time.) to defeat Vyse and company: 1872 random battles for cash to upgrade her weapon, and to gain more experience.

Crushing a Godlike in a single spell, before they get a chance to scratch you: Priceless.

For Piastol, there are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's obsessive leveling.

Ryu: 23
Piastol: 33

Id (XG) Id vs Albel Nox Albel Nox (SO3)

Cmdr_King
This match can oddly be summarized in four points:
Albel is a 'badass' with a penchant for killing things, sounding like he's better than everyone, and devolving into bouts of angst.
Id is a 'badass' with a tendancy to kill things, act like he's better than everyone, and spiral in to large angstfests, who also happens to have theoretically infinite power.
Therefore, from a certain point of view, Id is Albel's God.
And history has taught us what happens when a Man faces his God in mortal combat, usually in colorful pictures with a grease stain labelled "Man".
Of course, Id's not really a God, and Albel's not the religious type anyway, but the colorful picture of the grease stain named Albel still applies.

Id: 28
Albel Nox: 20

Hugo (S3) Hugo vs Ayla Ayla (CT)

Lackshmana
What use would Hugo possibly have
for the awesome destructive power
of the True Rune of Fire, when...

He gets 4 attacks per round,
he is faster than ninjas,
and when he is attacked,
he not only dodges but also counters.
And all this with a sickening critical rate.

This ain't much of a fight.

Hugo: 42
Ayla: 34

Beatrix (FF9) Beatrix vs Crono Crono (CT)

Dunefar
Ooooh! Can Crono's katana stop Beatrix's Knight Sword?! Can Luminare outgun Holy?! Can Crono use his blistering speed to slip past Beatrix and her devastating Shock?!

...oh, wait, that's right. Beatrix can stop lighting damage. Without Luminare, Crono can't really keep up, or gets his MP ran out as Beatrix heals away his Confuse shots.

Beatrix: 55
Crono: 36

Shale
Beatrix and Crono each have healing magic. Crono can revive dead party members, and Beatrix can heal herself in combat.
Guess which one's going to be more useful here.

Zemeckis (Brig) Zemeckis vs Lassic Lassic (PSs)

Tylor H
It's all a matter of scale here. You see, Zemeckis? His goal is to be King of a single contenant, and he doesn't really succeed. Lassic? He's not only out to be King of a whole Solar System, but he succeeds before you even begin the game.

Zemeckis: 13
Lassic: 19

Fina (SoA) Fina vs Shin Shin (S2)

OblivionKnight
One of the most important things in a fight isn't necessarily "coolness" or "power". While important, these factors take a backburner to something a little more vital - intimidation.

Shin is...well, scary compared to Fina. With the mark of a spider on his back, a deadly sabre in his right hand, and a powerful rune embedded in his left hand, it's pretty scary. Fina, meanwhile is a girl in a wedding dress, with a floating ball of silver jelly flying next to her. While Cupil can turn into awesome weapons such as swords and spears, that's about all Fina has going for her.

With Shin's mastery over the eight-legged freaks, it came as no surprise that he decided to take intimidation a little further, and dressed up as Spiderman before the battle. And really, he looked damn good in his costume ( a rougher version of Toby Mcguire, if you will ).

Unfortunately, there is still one power greater than intimidation in a fight...

...that, my friends, is the power of the lawsuit. Sam Raimi was not pleased with this, and appeared in the DL arena, at his side a powerful cadre of lawyers. In mere seconds, the would-be movie star was compressed under mounds of subpoenas and legal writings.

But that was ok, Shin thought. He'd deal with Fina, and then have Teresa pay his way out. Unfortunately, again, for Shin, charging energy for Eternum isn't as hard as you'd think it would be, especially when your opponent is buried under several thousand court orders.

But hey, look on the bright side: Spiderman 4: Attack of the Clones, is coming out in Summer '07!

Fina: 30
Shin: 23

Sara (BoF1) Sara vs Yuffie Kisaragi Yuffie Kisaragi (FF7)

1337 Mastah Limerick
A talented ninja-princess-thief
Once let out a sigh of relief
~~When the dragon she fought
~~Unawares had been caught
By healing, that made things less brief.

Sara: 34
Yuffie Kisaragi: 47

Sir Alex
Sara and Yuffie is a tossup. I respect Sara more than most, but I also allow Yuffie a bit of throwing. In the end... eh, damage edge doesn't cut it on BoF1 boss.

Fu So Ya (FF4) Fu So Ya vs Tio Tio (G2)

Shale
Round 1: FuSoYa starts charging Meteo. Tio uses Whisper to Stars to increase her stats.
Round 2: FuSoYa continues charging Meteo. Tio waits to see what happens.
Round 3: FuSoYa continues charging Meteo. Tio oils her joints.
Round 4: FuSoYa continues charging Meteo. Tio reads "War And Peace."
Round 5: At last, FuSoYa prepares to cast Meteo.
Tio uses Lotus Flower to cancel his action.
Round 6: FuSoYa starts charging Meteo...

Fu So Ya: 27
Tio: 40

Anastasia Romanov (SH2) Anastasia Romanov vs Noa Noa (LoL)

Shale
Anastasia summons monsters to cast spells for her. Noa summons monsters to cast spells for her.
Anastasia summons a 1910s-era robot with a cannon. Noa summons a wind spirit with the power to obliterate any non-boss enemy in the world of Legaia.
The moral? Terra wins the duel. Noa's just along for the ride.

Anastasia Romanov: 17
Noa: 23

Erk (FE7) Erk vs Kelvena Kelvena (XG)

Hunter Sopko
Erk stared nervously at the cute, petite girl that was to be his opponent in this opening round. Just his luck that he'd have to face off against such a fighter. "Would she be like Serra? Or more like Priscilla?" he wondered. Yet, couldn't help but notice the sad look on the girl's face.

"Young maiden, what seems to be troubling you?"

After a few moments of silence, Kelvena spoke up. "Master Ramsus did not come out to see the match..."

"What?! That is a travesty! ... Who is Master Ramsus?"

"The man which I serve..."

"Ah... then would you be like me? A wandering mage?"

Kelvena shook her head. "No... I am military. Master Ramsus is my commander."

"I see..." Erk bit his lip, pondering. "Would you need help finding him, perhaps? I am a mage for hire, of sorts... I can help you."

Kelvena's eyes softened and she smiled. "I... suppose. But what about the match?"

Erk shook his head vehemently. "That doesn't matter! Helping those in need is much more important than a silly match in the arena! Besides... I could not bear to bring myself to harm you."

This drew an even bigger smile and a blush from Kelvena. "Oh... I thank you..."

Erk approached her. "Let us depart here."

Kevlena simply nodded and lead him out. Since she left the arena first, Erk was declared the winner by default... however, does that really matter? Aww...

Erk: 44
Kelvena: 16

Jatsuya
Actually, Kelvena must keep her eyes closed because of her extremely high ether ability. Erk is a minor mage, perhaps the weakest mage in Fire Emblem, being outclassed by Nino and Pent. Kelvena is probably one of the better Elements. Anyroad, my vote lies with Kelvena.

Kogoro (S3) Kogoro vs Kain Highwind Kain Highwind (FF4)

1337 Mastah Limerick
Man's best friend is his dog
Which is why Kain's heart was a-fog
~~Not wanting to harm Lassie
~~For it'd make him less classy
He instead bribed the beast with sliced hog

Kogoro: 10
Kain Highwind: 61

Scar
Kain isn't one to pick on a dog to show just how underrated he is. Now if this pooch was stupid enough to try to bite a man wearing full clad armor, then I think it's safe to say Kain can impale the dog on chanrges of self defense.

Kain, once again, silently waits for his next trial.

Dunefar
Kogoro freezes Kain; advances onward. It's easy, really, since an A+ in Freeze owns anything the Dragoon can do!

Sylvina (S1) Sylvina vs Gobi Gobi (BoF1)

Sage Acrin
Well, there are many ways to analyze this match.

One could note that Sylvina, as a mage with no actual spells, has some issues damaging Gobi.

On the other hand, one could note that Gobi, as...well, a fish out of water, has his own special skills sealed.

In their relative plots, their power is about the same. Sylvina is just a fairly random elven girl, while Gobi is a humble merchant.

However, one thing is fairly simple.

Think for a moment. When has a fish bested an elf in his own game, on even terms?

Artea and Jerin have certainly slaughtered hoardes of fish, eels, hydras and various other aquatic beasts. Astos, though certainly not powerful, could defeat the fish that swim outside his castle with ease. Arche Klaine is only a half-elf, yet she can still crush aquatic monsters with ease. In most worlds, the fish aren't even strong enough to put up any level of a fight.

Maybe it comes of elves largely being part of an ancient and powerful race, whereas most fish... aren't.

Or maybe the fish just want to get away from the arrogant elves as fast as possible.

In the end, it just doesn't matter.

Sylvina: 48
Gobi: 16

AndrewRogue
Sylvania stood nervously at the edge of the arena, her bow drawn back, facing off against the fearsome fish man known only as Gobi. She was in doubt about whether she could win this match, but couldn't risk failing and disappointing Kirkis.

"A-are you ready?" she asked, her fingers shaking as she carefully sighted her deadly weapon.

Gobi, on the other hand, seemed confident as he rested his trident point first on the ground.

"Actually Sylvania..."

Several minutes later Gobi walked out of the arena, smiling as he weighed the bag of potch Sylvania had given him. After all, what was the point in fighting for a victory that had no reward? Taking a fall for cash was much better in the business sense.

Sir Alex
On the other hand, I DO respect Gobi more than a runeless Suiko mage. Both are completely worthless and outshined by the entire rest of their casts, but Gobi can actually ruin random's days; Sylvina has no such luck.

Dorcas (FE7) Dorcas vs Grey Grey (VP1)

Sage Acrin
Dorcas had heard all the jeers before, he had thought.

People had called him slow, stupid, unable to take magical attacks to save his family's lives, let alone his own, selfish, worthless...he didn't care, he was in it for the money. From advertising deals, if he went far in Light. From the insurance, if he didn't.

Either way, it'd support his family for ages, and death, thanks to clerics, was temporary.

But, as he walked into the arena... one call broke him.

Chanted over and over by the crowd.

"Bartre is better!"

"Bartre is better!"

"BARTRE IS BETTER!"

"BARTRE IS BETTER!"

And Dorcas stood there, totally stunned. He thought back to Bartre bashing against a rock, just because he had been talking to a decently smart person. He thought back to all the stupid things Bartre had done.

He thought back to how much better Bartre was at fighting than him, by the end of their campaign together.

And Dorcas, the hardened veteran of many battles, broke down sobbing, and ran out of the arena.

Grey: 45

Draco Ignifer
At first, it would seem that TimeLord doesn't have a chance in HELL of winning this case. Yes, using a Backpack is no more illegal than having a group of Godlikes beat your opponent to a pulp under the guise of using a secret spell. Yes, RPGDL rules really say nothing about causing tremendous psychological trauma to one's foes in the course of battle, save for the fact that doing so seems to be unofficially encouraged. Yes, the body of evidence indicates that TimeLord was set up. But even if he wasn't set up... he has to deal with the jury. More specifically, the jury's reaction to an extremely pissed off Ghaleon after finding out that TimeLord gets to walk away with this. Coupled with the fact that they have no reason to fear TimeLord's retaliation, with Silent Lake in full effect, this case seems like it should mirror the trials of rather brutal gansters.

So, why, then, would I vote for TimeLord winning this one? Simple... The Jury's reaction is to smirk at the concept. As it turns out, the most important part of the plan wasn't to convince the jury... that was very important, but not as vital as the jury selection stage. Edge may suck as a lawyer, but he has unbelievable resourcefulness when properly motivated, especially outside of actual battles. He also has, as his potential allies, the most powerful Mystic in existance, the entire host of rising Godlikes that Ghaleon has stomped on, anyone reasonably bribed through a bit of Time Magic, and the fans of the prematurely-cancelled Magical Girl Ghaleon show. Though it required the pulling of a number of strings properly expressed in scientific notation, Rolf could only stare in horror at the Jury Selection pool...

Cherubim. Iseria Queen. Omega Weapon VIII. Blue. Nemesis. Pringer-X. Gabriel Celeste. Ruby Weapon. Ryu=8192. Daimaoh Lucifer. The entire cast of Dark Aeons. Penance. It seemed ridiculous... They wouldn't be swayed by Ghaleon's threats, but none seemed inclined to favor TimeLord. In fact, over half of them were monsters... personality-less monsters, who would need chips installed. Chips to give them Fair and Unbiased personalities. And at last, the full extent of the plan became clear. He couldn't claim jury bias... even if they granted an appeal, Edge would easily win it. All he could do was strike as many as he could, and hope the naturally evil Lucifer, Cherubim, Iseria, and Gabriel, as well as the poorly-chosen and obviously biased Blue, would at least cause a deadlock. Forgetting, of course, in the heat of his stress, that while evil, the personalities of the middle three consisted basically of "Show up and fight," and that they, too, would need chips... that Lucifer came from a game series where he was the good one... and that Blue's interest in TimeLord's death was not just a universal one, but very specific.

Without a sadistic jury, and without a terrified jury, the prosecution had only the weight of its evidence to convince a group consisting of one man that wanted to kill TimeLord with his own spells, one man easily bribed by someone who knew how to unwind a D-Counter, one demon lord with his own code of honor that does not regard rule-breaking as a problem, and nine optional superbosses with "Paladin" chips, who were reeling with shock at the massive corruption and lawlessness showed by the prosecution, police, and basically everyoe involved in this case. The jury's deliberation was a formality.

TimeLord goes free: 54
TimeLord is convicted: 14

Xeroma
Come on here. It's EDGE. He fails at nothing. And the evidence is good enough for me in this case.

Shale
Ghaleon was abused, manipulated and traumatized - whatever his reaction was later, TimeLord's actions are undeniable.
What's also undeniable is that they were funny as hell, and if that's not a defense in a DL court, it should be.

In your opinion, what was the best moment of Season 16?
~RPGDL Staff

Draco Ignifer
I must admit, I'm a bit biased when it comes to the choices for Season 16 awards... So I'm going to abstain. I don't know what the result is going to be, but let me just say that, even if it winds up in last place, it was an honor to see my twisted sense of humor nominated.

As much as I love Magical Girl Ghaleon and BITGOYSWB, I have to go with my man Nash. His sex appeal> you.

Sir Alex
THE CLIMACTIC MOMENT OF SEASON 16 IS OBVIOUS. DUELLERS AND UPGRADES COME AND GO, BUT OUR LORD YOGSOTHOTH IS ANCIENT AND ETERNAL, SLEEPING DREAMLESSLY FOR THE DAY WHEN HE SHALL COME AND DEVOUR THE UNIVERSE. AND WHEN THAT DAY SHALL COME, THE METAL FANS SHALL BE AMONG THE FIRST TO BE EATEN, SPARING THEM FROM THE PAIN OF SEEING REALITY COLLAPSE INTO FIRE.

Jo ou Ranbu
Despite Season 16 being overall great, nothing - and I say NOTHING - will ever top Ghaleon turning into a Magical Girl. Plus, he got a date with Tuxedo Zidane in-between, I guess. (Yes, OMG Zidane getting laid. It's a novel and frightening concept.) Nothing will say "AWESOME!" quite as soundly as Ghaleon wearing a sailor suit with blonde hair while screaming "Gorgeous Fate Storm Heart Escalation!" and "In the name of Lunar, I will punish you!" when he returns to the scene in... season 25 or 27... I guess. And the naked transformation scene. He MUST have a naked transformation scene.

khaki_knight
While Nash is a sexy, sexy beast, and I love BITGOYSWB, its hard to argue with Magical Girl Ghaleon.
