Week 4 - Quarterfinals

Kefka (FF6) Kefka vs Vandesdelca Musto Fende Vandesdelca Musto Fende (TotA)

Dunefar
So yeah, Kefka has wings. Van doesn't. Van fights on a flying island. That's right, think this one over a bit.

I hear impacts suck, especially after being tossed a few miles away from a particularly potent Havok Wing.

Kefka: 39
Vandesdelca Musto Fende: 17

Barubary
Theirs not doubt in my mind Kefka will beat Van and then lose to Jade

Its the classic trap... damn shame

Chaos (FF1) Chaos vs Jade Jade (BoF1)

Tonfa
Chaos. A state of existence where no laws or rules of the universe apply, where time paradoxes are created, and countless tiny psyducks are born. You cannot possibly defeat such a thing, can you?

Well, all it takes is an even stronger consistency. And Jade is known for exactly one thing in the DL.

BoltX. BoltX. BoltX. Once again, the most simple plan proves to be the most effective.

Chaos: 29
Jade: 33

Eirika (FE8) Eirika vs Jenova Jenova (FF7)

Joou Ranbu
"So. What are the conclusions we can draw from the experiment?"

Brey scribbled down his notes leisurely, not even stopping to glance up at Lexis. The scientist himself just stared at the dwarfish sorcerer, as if the chaos creeping out behind them was nothing more than a nuisance... well, probably that was it. After all, adding pheromone-laden tentacles to Jenova for science is pretty much a weekly event by this point in the Duelling League's life. Of course, things happen a bit differently when a drugged-up on aphrodisiacs and tentacle growth medicine Jenova is tacked into a match with a swordgirl princess.

"Eh? You said something, Lexis? I was just jotting down the fascinating effects that Eirika's Sacred Twin has against hormonal outrage", Brey merrily chided.

"Erm", Lexis coughed. "You'd expect anything else from Jenova as those tentacles are getting chopped into tiny pieces? That's not scientifical experimentation as much as natural action-reaction. However, I do find Eirika's sudden murderous glee an interesting psychological defense..."

As he finished the sentence, Lexis and Brey looked at the arena fight. Eirika maniacally laughed as she tore through the tentacles and ripe alien body, Jenova whimpering incomprehensibly. By that point, Luca Blight, who was reffing the match, joined in the alien slaughter, and random audience members began launching flammable Rogers into Jenova.

Lexis glanced back at Brey. "I wonder if people will ever figure out that science has nothing to do with these experiments. Do you think...?"

Brey stifled out a laugh. "They probably did a couple years back. They just don't care. I mean, why would you?"

Lexis shrugged. "I guess. Anyhow, I'm gonna grab more flammables from my lab. You let the explosive foam handy and the Creamonade calibrated, right?"

"Yeah, go ahead. I'm just finishing down the notes", Brey distractedly nodded.

In retrospect, that was all pretty typical. And so, the Duelling League moves on.

Eirika: 45
Jenova: 21

Suicune (PKMN) Suicune vs Rose Rose (LoD)

Joou Ranbu
It would be a fierce competition. Tidal waves, tempests, hazy darkness blasts. A desperate fight for survival in the unfriendliest environment possible.

However, it didn't dawn on Rose that her Dragoon armor would be too heavy to let her swim in the pentathlon competition against Suicune. As such, since the first part of the contest was a five-mile swimming course, she sank like a rock, getting trapped in Atlantica during a singing minigame.

Suicune was awarded victory by default. For Rose, she's making a cameo in Kingdom Hearts 3 as yet another Nobody.

Suicune: 26
Rose: 20

Margulis (XS) Margulis vs Valeria Valeria (Suikos)

superaielman
The resounding thunder of steel on steel filled the arena, as Valeria's Conqueror Star Sword struck against Margulis's ancient Ormus forged blade. Blade met blade, parry met parry. Margulis's Rakta skill seared Valeria to the bone, Valeria's Falcon Rune cut Margulis to bloody ribbons from head to toe.A battle against such evenly matched foes unshockingly went to the wire. Both were near death, ready for one last pass.

Only one had a full combo bar ready. Only one had clones to call on.

Only one was left alive after that final pass, and it wasn't the Toran Republic's great general.

Margulis: 26
Valeria: 21

Aika (SoA) Aika vs Albert Serdio Albert Serdio (LoD)

SageAcrin
The power of confusion.

Of limitless healing and endless battle.

Aika could have gone forever.

How could she have lost?

---

"...he's...um...nothing..." Aika stammered.

"Oh, come on, you didn't..." Fina stared at Aika.

"...but...I mean...he's so...dreamy, and I just got a little distracted, I mean, I don't want to, you know, do anything with him, but he's, I mean, that is...Damnit, don't you dare judge me!" Aika blushed.

"And they say my matches are sad." Fina sighed.

Aika: 14
Albert Serdio: 29

Gogo (FF6) Gogo vs Kent Kent (FE7)

superaielman
Gogo's plan was simplicity at it's best. Mimic the DL's most successful trainwreck of all time, and use that to smash Kent to bits. What can a puny Fire Emblem Paladin do against such brutal tactics? The plan? Smart. The execution? Brilliant. The research? Not.. so much. You see, Gogo mimiced Edge, who was last seen getting his ass kicked 'round the block by Decus.

Kent wasn't going to question why Gogo suddenly burst into flames and ran out of the arena with Ghaleon hot on his heels. It was his easist win in his brief DL career, which says something after he's fought VP1 Hrist -and- Augst. It's another win and gets him all the closer to the same division as his friend and fellow knight Sain.

Gogo: 22
Kent: 41

Nitori
Coming into this match, one thing was apparent; if Gogo managed to mimic the traditional Fire Emblem doubleacting and counters that Kent possessed, he would become an unstoppable force in the arena.

Unfortunately, Gogo had to see the double attacks and counters in order to mimic them successfully. So, he let Kent double attack him and counter him, leading to diced mimic.

Jean (BoF2) Jean vs Fargo Fargo (CC)

superaielman
Pirates are fearsome fighters, widely respected in the league. They can battle on land or ship, and Fargo is no different. He certainly is a faster hand with his blade than Jean and can outmuscle him if he can just avoid his Death spell..

Or letting Jean get the drop on him.

When the polite Frog prince suggested fighting on Fargo's ship instead of the arena, Fargo leaped to agree. What better than homefield advantage to negate whatever chance Jean has of victory? Forgetting that while pirates are masters of the sea on a ship, Frogs are masters of water, period. Sinking Fargo's ship was easy as poking a few holes in the hull.

It's hard to duel when you can't move or swim much thanks to a sword and armor weighing you down. Fargo was defenseless when Jean closed in and shredded him with a series of quick jabs from his Holy Rapier.

Jean: 44
Fargo: 15

Nitori
As the holder of an accurate instant death in Light, Jean was naturally getting some criticism for relying on a single Death spell to win fights. Crafty as he is, Jean went to the judges to see if he could use a different kind of Death in his next fight.

Of course, after the Persona 3 Grim Reaper lay waste to Fargo in no time, Jean was banned from ever talking with the judges beforehand again, and Justin, Dekar, and Bartre still don't where they made a mistake.

Jean considers the whole thing worth it, of course.

DL Team Battles VII
~SnowFire

SageAcrin
Oh, come on, now.

One team has Albedo on it.

The other team has Halley on it.

One team has Virgil on it.

The other has Keith on it.

With two of the most natural mental counters on earth to the SH1 team on the Xenosaga team, the match is obvious. Margarete finds something less suicidal to do, Zhuzhen has less forethought, Halley gets to go through councelling longer than MOMO had to and Keith is still mumbling miserably about how horrid Virgil is.

Though, it wasn't all good for XS's team.

Albedo still is desperately insisting that Halley was a girl. Of course. He doesn't swing that direction for his mental rape. Right. Naturally.

Team Shadow Hearts: 19
Team Xenosaga: 29

Interesting bonus. My vote goes to the 'classic combination' of vampires, spies, exorcists, and annoying psychic kids. It's too bad Koudelka herself doesn't get to get in on this action...
