Yuri Volte Hyuga (SHs) Yuri Volte Hyuga vs Kuja Kuja (FF9)

Mathias
If Kuja thinks his Trance is gonna help, he's got another thing coming with Yuri's Dark Seraphim. Yuri wouldn't let anything stop him from saving a planet threatened, and Kuja is just the type to destroy a planet. "For Everyone, For Tomorrow, For the Children, For the World..."

Avalon (LoL2) Avalon vs Profound Darkness Profound Darkness (PS4)

Taishyr
Really, there was only one logical way this could end from the start.

Fanboy contests.

Avalon came in dressed as Goku, which seemed to sway the crowd.

Then PD came in with Aeris' dress on.

The resulting fanstampede crushed Avalon, giving PD the win both in the contest and in the battle.

And it fit her well, too! <3

Nel Zelpher (SO3) Nel Zelpher vs Rosa Harvey Rosa Harvey (FF4)

SageAcrin
The innocent shrieks.

The leering crowd.

Who would do this to two poor girls.

---

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Rosa shrieked at the top of her lungs.

"...That's it, this contest is too stupid for me." Nel said in disgust, as she walked out of the arena.

And so, Rosa won the Duelling League's first screaming contest, as well as a ticket to the finals.

Then a flaming Sten collided with Rosa.

It turns out Rubicant was really bored before this match, and offered to stand guard. Sheer numbers, ultimately, won out with perversion-several dozen were killed, but the rest managed to get by while he was distracted.

And that's how Rosa ended up with half her clothes burned off.

On the upside, the later shrieks would have won her the match if Nel hadn't quit, anyways.

Nel lacks that upper register.

Sometimes, when you refuse to fight, you win. In a spiritual sense, anyways. And in a sense of not having a burning monkey grope you.

Nel Zelpher: 38
Rosa Harvey: 40

T.G. Nevareh
I love Rosa Harvey. I really do. She takes the whole love interest character aspect to a whole new level, spending time in the party where she is significantly more useful than her male counterpart. The party would literally die without her in so many instances that it's a wonder that SHE isn't the protagonist. Rosa also went to the Cleric school of fighting as opposed to the White Mage school, so she actually has hit points and can hurt things without magic. She wears what can only be assumed to be an iron bikini, and Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi taught us what love interests in iron bikinis can do.

It's too bad that she's going up against someone who kind of specializes in shutting down magic-users in the arena. Sure, in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, magic-users are the last ones you want to use MP-damaging attacks on since they're probably physically weaker and have fewer hit points relative to magic points. In the Duelling Arena, though, the quirks of her game combined with her innate specialties make Nel an absolutely fantastic mage-killer.

Also unfortunately for Rosa, Nel duked it out with Hector and won, so that doesn't say much for Rosa's chances in a pure physical fight.

Nel wouldn't win against someone who is merely above-average in all areas. However, against people who are very specialized and have very specific weaknesses, like Hector and Rosa, Nel can just hit them where it hurts over and over again without fear of adequate retribution.

I guess it's possible for Rosa to win if she Mutes Nel before Nel can close the distance and then hits Nel with White/Holy (depending on your preference) until she's a very, very sacred pile of meat, but I don't see this working. Nel wins because Nel can eat away at Rosa's MP with astonishing speed, and without her MP Rosa isn't a Heavy. She probably isn't even a Middle.

Ryu (BoF1) Ryu vs Mithos Yggdrasil Mithos Yggdrasil (ToS)

SnowFire
Ryu wanted to get properly ready for his fight with Mithos. So, something that even silent mains can do... training! ...unfortunately, Bo was off hunting, Karn was missing again, and Nina still wasn't speaking to him. This fight would be a little different anyway; perhaps someone from an action-RPG could show Ryu the ropes?

"Well. If your goal is to lose horribly, I recommend you keep with your current strategy of standing still."

This sarcastic "Necromancer" was proving an annoying partner, no matter what his alleged skills. Ryu sulkily responded with a "..." and tried shifting around a bit.

"Better. Now, I'm going to start casting... what do you do?" Ryu charged forward, dodging the splashing magical water and smacking Jade with his practice sword.

"Ah. You almost have the hang of it. Could use some work dodging the physicals, but 'run away' works pretty well against magic. A fine session, and thank you again for loaning me this earthquake key. It should prove a fascinating object of study."

Ryu smiled. Mithos was in for a rude shock.

---

As the fight opened, Mithos predictably started raining down destruction with his Indignation spell. Ryu proceeded to masterfully dodge all Mithos's attacks, getting several attack chains in with his mighty Emperor Sword.

"Ha! I won't continue to be toyed with! Judgment!" Random destruction rained from the heavens, and Ryu couldn't help but be caught in some of it. Luckily, he still had his trump card- he could transform, and be back in the game!

The newcomers in the crowd gasped as Ryu's majestic and huge Rudra form snazzily grabbed the screen for a moment before coalescing in a bolt of lightning. Mithos now had to face an unstoppable, fully healed draconic juggernaught...

"Indignation!" Mithos yelled. Ryu instinctively attempted his dodge motion again, which mostly worked... except for the stinging electrical sensation coming from his side. What?!

Ryu looked down at his newly massive size and realized in horror that there would be no more tricky dodging.

What would Nina do here? Ryu then remembered something else he could do, though he'd never really felt the need before when politely lined up in his original quest's battles.

"Wha... what?!" Ryu's flapping wings lifted himself off the ground, and above even the plane of battle. Mithos frantically flung a few more spells, yet they only affected things at most twice his height, and Ryu's wings were considerably more powerful than his tiny angelic ones. Soon, Mithos was ground into toast from Rudra's mighty blasts from the sky.

A quick session among those judges who were themselves groundbound closed the loophole afterward, of course, declaring that flying any higher than 100 meters (when not in a special attack animation) would henceforth be a ring-out.

Ryu: 36
Mithos Yggdrasil: 28

CO Raven
For Mithos vs. Ryu, the match goes to Mithos. If Ryu uses his dragon form, Mithos can warp around and wear him down with Death Eater, Prism Sword, etc. A dragon that big can't turn fast enough to get him before he casts and warps away again. And if Ryu does't transform, superior mobility by warping and status from retibution tell the tale. 4000+ years of battle experience isn't to be scoffed at either. Near instant casting and teleport spamming isn't something a huge dragon can keep up with.

Kresnik Ahtreide (WA4) Kresnik Ahtreide vs Nanaki Nanaki (FF7)

Gatewalker
Making his way to the arena, flanked by Yuffie and Cloud, Nanaki flexed his claws a bit and took a few deep breaths, preparing himself for combat. Looking around the audience, he curled his lip a bit at all of the various Wild ARMS folks in the audience, all here to cheer on the Pale Rider.

Noticing the same thing as his friend, Cloud nodded slightly and proceeded to keep a weary eye on the rest of the Brionac members gathered, "You just worry about Kresnik. He seems like a pretty upright guy, so I don't think he'll try anything funny. The rest of those punks though…you just leave them to me, got it?"

Yuffie raised an eyebrow at the ex-SOLDIER, "You mean 'leave them to us' right Cloud?"

"Yeah, that." Ignoring Yuffie past that, he pointed up near where Lamba and the rest of Brionac was sitting, "Vincent's already in position, and we've got Barret up in a position to snipe, with Cid on call for air support if we need it."

Nanaki snorted, "A bit excessive there, isn't it? Don't do anything dumb and get me knocked out by disqualification."

In a rare display of amusement, Cloud grinned, "No worries. We're staying out of it unless those Wild ARMS freaks get involved first. We're just here to make sure they stay out of it." As the bell rang, signaling the start of the fight, Cloud gave his friend a confident slap on the shoulder, "Take this guy out and get your tail up to Heavy, huh?"

With a feral grin, Nanaki's only response to Cloud was an amused snort as he lunged for his foe, not letting the Rider have a chance to start digging into his defensive game.

- - -

Nearly fifteen minutes later, Nanaki was starting to worry about the outcome for the first time. His attacks, fast and punishing as they were, were meeting an extremely effective barrier in the defensive powers and healing that Kresnik possessed. On the upside though, the Pale Rider seemed to be in no better shape, panting with exertion with every shot fired and every spell cast.

Then, out of nowhere, a white robed figure came hurtling in to the arena from above…it's path seemingly aiming straight for the fighters. Barret, in his high vantage point, was the first to notice it, and began shooting at it wildly, hoping to knock it off it's course enough that it landed in the stands instead of the middle of the fight. But with the speed the figure was going, his bullets were the only things that went into the crowd, causing no few irritated spectators to begin firing back at his position with whatever they had handy.

In the stands, Cloud(who was now sitting right next to Lambda after the latter had managed to unobtrusively slide his way down a few seats into the front row only to suddenly find himself between Cloud and Yuffie) was keeping one eye on the match with the other not letting Lambda out of his sight for a second. As such, he wasn't watching the sky, and was quite surprised when the shooting started. Assuming that Barret was taking a shot at some Brionac goon that was making a move, he whipped out his sword and started laying into the ones near him, which prompted Yuffie to do the same, and before long a massive brawl had broken out in the stands.

In the meanwhile, the falling body continued it's course unhindered, and landed directly on Kresnik, knocking him to the ground and making his head spin with the force of the impact. Seizing the impromptu advantage, Nanaki was on him in a flash, forepaws slamming onto his chest to pin him down as those wicked fangs closed swiftly, but somehow gently, around his neck. As Red made eye-contact with him, and applied a bit of pressure, Kresnik got the point and knew what he had to do. Dropping his ARM, the Pale Rider held up his hands in the universal signal of surrender. Letting his grip go, Nanaki backed off and turned his eyes to the judges, awaiting their verdict.

As the judges conferred to determine if the falling corpse that hit Kresnik counted as interference or not, a rather amused voice entered their minds, as well as the minds of the two fighters, {I have already investigated the source of this matter. It was entirely accidental, and therefore should not be considered interference. Now, you may wish to do something about that minor war going on in the stands before it spills out into the streets.}

Not seeing a need to argue with Mewtwo, the judges let Kresnik's surrender stand. Nanaki had won!

Of course, it was quite awhile before the audience was calmed down enough to hear the announcement. It took Maria Balthezar doing ballet through the stands to actually settle things down enough. She did this while piloting Seibzehn, of course. The 'settling down' consisted mainly of squishing everything. But hey, what else is new around here?

Nanaki wagged his tail in a cute maneer just like he did in the game sometimes and that was enough to instantly kill the freak who dared oppose him! XD

LONG LIVE NANAKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

White Wizard (FF1) White Wizard vs Arnaud G. Vasquez Arnaud G. Vasquez (WA4)

Gatewalker
It was just after midnight, but Arnaud was still wide awake. He had a lot of planning to do, after all. Not for this next match, of course. Cleaning up this generic White Wizard was about as simple a task as he could get. No, it was the match afterwards that concerned Arnaud, namely who he would be facing in it. Neither of the other semi-finalists were particularly attractive choices for a finals match. Arnaud wasn't a fan of fair fights after all, he much preferred easy wins. But when all was said and done, he would rather get Kresnik as his final opponent. Not because he thought that Yulie's brother would be easier to beat then Red XIII, in Arnaud's mind they were about the same on that matter, but rather because the drifter would much rather have a chance to legitimately beat the snot out of Kresnik without incurring Yulie's wrath. But the question was, how to control the outcome of the other match? The two fights were being held at roughly the same time, so any plan he came up with would have to be a good one, better then even his usual plans, especially considering that he had to pull it off alone. No way would the others even hear of him interfering in Kresnik's match.
Pouring himself another cup of coffee(hey, it's what all the cool adults drink), Arnaud turned his razor sharp intellect toward the task of insuring Kresnik's victory...

- - -

Eyeing his opponent, Arnaud grimaced slightly. He'd only have one shot at his plan, so he had to time it, and execute it perfectly. But first came the task of beating the White Wizard so black and blue that it couldn't struggle too much. Couldn't have her ruining his plan by jerking around, after all. But ensuring that she stayed still wasn't going to be pleasant. That meant running her out of high grade healing and then putting her to sleep. He just hoped Kresnik could hold out long enough.

As soon as the start of the fight was sounded, Arnaud went right to work with his usual strategy. Slow Down followed by Fragile, but then, rather then throwing out Hi-Blasts, the drifter went to work with his weapon, rapidly assaulting the now sluggish wizard. Once the wizard found a moment to act, she healed herself, just as Arnaud expected, and this process went to basically repeat itself over and over, until the wizard was sorely low on spells. That's when Arnaud put his plan into motion.

Quickly laying down a sleep spell, the canny drifter grabbed the sleeping wizard by the shoulders...and Jumped. Soaring high into the air with the magical jump, Arnaud put everything he had into it, going up, up, up, up, until he and his opponent were well above the arena...and Arnaud could see Kresnik and Nanaki fighting in their arena next door. Taking careful aim, and running the calculations at a speed that would make Lucca envious, he shoved the wizard, and then slammed her with a strategically timed and placed series of Hi-Blasts, sending her flying at an arc designed to make her collide with Kresnik.

Hoping his plan would work, and having no more time to act on it as he was quickly plummeting back to the arena, Arnaud began to cast a slowing spell on himself to decelerate his fall, but suddenly found himself suspended in mid-air.

{Clever, aren't you? At least you seem to think so.} As Arnaud hung in mid-air, a powerful voice intruded upon his mind, and all his efforts to force it out were meeting only with failure, {A well planned trick. Send your opponent out of the ring and try to get Nanaki disqualified all at the same time.}

His eyes widening at the words of the mysterious voice, Arnaud started to protest, but was cut off, {Oh, don't even try. You may claim to be confident in 'everything from the neck up' but that very area is MY domain, and I am it's master. Even your mind is as an open book before me. I know what you planned. Crash the generic into Kresnik, get caught in the investigation and have Nanaki disqualified because you 'interfered on his behalf', sending Kresnik on to the finals to be your opponent. Clever, but not good enough. You see, I've taken the liberty of informing the judges panel that it was all an accident. My word is beyond reproach, and they won't even question it. So you see, that means that Nanaki has won, and it is he you will be facing in the finals.}

Realizing that he'd been beaten at his own game, Arnaud just sighed as he was gently lowered to the ground. Well, it didn't matter in the end. He could be Nanaki just as easily as Kresnik. So all in all, he still came out of this ahead. Despite this powerful psychic's intervention.

{Oh, is that so?} Freezing as the voice returned, Arnaud prayed that it didn't hear all of his thoughts. The prayer was, of course, in vain. {I think a lesson in humility would do you well. I've also taken the liberty of informing your allies, yes even Kresnik, about your little plot. Enjoy explaining yourself to them.}

And that's when Arnaud just sat down and awaited the inevitable. Raquel was NOT going to be happy about this...

SageAcrin
A suave, sophisticated, intelligent jack-of-all-trades.

A pretty random girl(probably) healer whose personality is programmed before each and every fight.

This couldn't possibly have gone well, could it?

---

"Will that be all, Mr. Zidane?" White Wizard asked, as she kneaded Zidane's back.

"Ahhhhh, that's great, thanks." Zidane said happily. "Man, Arnaud, you're the best. I can't believe how little you're renting her out for."

"Heh. No problem, Zidane." Arnaud said, as he walked out of the room.

To face an angry Raquel.

"Why....wasn't winning enough for you? Wasn't winning by reprogramming her personality into the Cabbage mode enough? You had to sell the poor thing out to random perverts too?" Raquel said in disgust, with a frowning Yulie and a angry Jude nodding unhappily along with Raquel's tirade. "All for a cheap buck! That's disgusting."

"...um, hey, wait, didn't you guys talk to any of the people I rented her to before this?" Arnaud said, holding up his hands and shaking his head. "It's not like that!"

"GENOCIDE MODE ENGAGED." A feminine voice could be heard to call from the room behind Arnaud, to be shortly followed by several loud(masculine) shrieks and several dozen thuds.

"...Oh." Raquel said simply.

"...Hey, Arnaud, that's no fair! You have to let us in on the fun!" Jude said, still annoyed.

"Oh, it's okay. She'll be done pretty soon, and I promise you guys can watch when she...ah...works over Bart." Arnaud promised solemnly.

Yang (FF4) Yang vs Jane Maxwell Jane Maxwell (WA:ACF)

SageAcrin
In RPGs, bare-handed masters are often the most dangerous of foes.

Meanwhile, guns are given to the random grunts, and can shoot you several thousand times. Even PCs with guns are classically outdamaged by those with swords, fists, sticks, origami...the list goes on.

The outcome is obvious, isn't it?

---

"...what the hell? Jane just blew you up!" A stunned judge Barret bellowed, as he watched Yang burst from the floor of the arena.

"Hah! Just a flesh wound!" "Your &*$%ing arm's up here!" "No, it isn't!" "I have it right here!" 'tis but a scratch!" "...the hell with it. You win."

Yes, that's right.

The only possible outcome was Jane beating the hell out of Yang due to non-gun-related factors, only to have him randomly respawn in the arena a few hours later.

It's the FF4 Temp Way!

Karyl Sheeden (ToD) Karyl Sheeden vs Bernadette Egan Bernadette Egan (S5)

SageAcrin
"...dad? What are you doing here?" Bernadette said, puzzled, as her father walked into the arena.

"It's pretty simple, girl. I'm going to have to tell you to call off the match." Skald said gravely.

"Why? This is my first real chance to do something memorable!" Bernadette cried. "Did you screw something up again!?"

"...Bern! You know better than to question me like that. It's vital that you call off this match. We have more important things to be doing!" Skald said.

"...fine. Okay, let's go." Bernadette said unhappily.

---

"...dad. Please, please, please tell me there was something you wanted to do besides attend Karyl's victory celebration." Bernadette said in disgust.

She had finally found her father, who had disappeared within minutes of calling her out of the match.

"...Ah, well, uh...darn it, no one throws a party like a bard! Hahahaha!"

"Dad."

"...I won't do it again."

"Dad."

"...and I'll make it up to you. Darn it. Why is my daughter such a tight a-"

Bernadette, frustrated beyond reason, proceeded to knock her beloved father out.
