Season 12, Week 3
Amarant Coral
(Final Fantasy IX)

The fiery-haired Amarant Coral strides lackadaisically into the ring this week, more than ready to show his perky opponent how a real duellist operates. There will hardly be any cheers coming from his side of the ring, and even fewer catchy slogans from his minimal group of fans. The only support the silent mercenary has, or needs, is his combination of fierce claws and power-thrown Wing Edges; more than enough to ravage the frail Ms. Amano before she has a chance to act. Indeed, this brutal bout will be all the proof that Amarant’s erstwhile companions need to see that he’s just fine on his own.

A roving reporter whose intrepidity would give even the famed Chisato Madison a run for her money, Maya Amano is on a natural high after her successful debut – a high from which she has no intention of dropping this week. Whether she opts to bond with Maia Custom or the legendary Artemis for this fight, she has more than enough firepower and crippling status options to put her mean ol’ foe down for the count. Moreover, both of her Personae have the added effect of immediately healing her wounds a single time when in critical condition. As Maya is so fond of saying, it’s whoop-ass time!

Amarant, well-trained in the arts of self-control and physical combat, was unfraid of fighting a Maya in the arena. He had nothing to fear: he had the strength, he had the moves...nothing could go wrong.

Unfortunately, something did go wrong. Maya's overly positive attitude - ripe with beautiful Engrish - was something the monk had never had to bear for extended periods of time. After only a minute, the mercenary lost all self-control, and wildly tossed blades all around the arena. Unfortunately for him, these blades happened to strike a several little girls in the front row, causing Albedo to go into a berserker rage and slaughter the hapless fool.

On a positive note, Maya won. On an even weirder note, Albedo got a standing ovation for the first time in his life.
