Tales of Symmetry

On the other side of the time collapse....
~Doma Dragoon

With the recent change of events with the Final Fantasy VI storyline, the threads of fate have become tangled. While the powers that be work things out, those who have become displaced can only do their best and hope that things work out...

"And you're saying that this Rinoa lady is important to you?" asked King Guardia XXI.

"She's our employer, sir," said Irvine Kinneas.

"She's also a dim-witted optimist, and a bad cook... and my girlfriend. Anything you can do to help us?"

"Seifer..."

"Unfortunately, neither I nor my guards have seen this lady of yours. However, should anything turn up..."

"My liege! Perhaps I may be of some assistance to thy supplicants."

"Frog?"

Irvine stared. "That's the second biggest frog I've ever seen."

Seifer raised an eyebrow. "You keep track of the sizes of frogs? You really need a hobby, Irv."

"There hath been reports of people disappearing from the old cathedral to the west. Mayhap the lass wandered there in her confusion. If thou wilt allow it, sire, I couldst guide them to the site."

"Very well, Frog. But be careful."

"Agent Landale, your orders are to investigate the recent Bio-Systems accident. There have been reports of recent Biohazard attacks in the region, as close as right outside Paseo city limits. Extreme caution is to be used. Your first task is to determine the fate of Arima, a northern colony whose last transmission ten hours ago spoke of a major attack.

"There have also been reports of reptilian creatures coming from the laboratory. To that end, we have dispatched a member of the Trinity Division to assist you. If you find these creatures, do not, I repeat, DO NOT engage them. That is all, Agent."

Rolf turned off his monitor and turned to his guest. "I assume the governor was talking about you."

Lin nodded. "I've seen what those things can do, Rolf. I wouldn't be surprised if Arima fell victim to one of those... things."

"Let's not jump to conclusions. We'll have plenty of time to figure things out once we get there. Pack light, we'll head out at 1500."

"So you're heading off again," said Tia sadly.

"They say that there have been major earthquakes in Sundeltan. If that's true, then there must be something causing it, right? It's my job, Tia. There's nothing I can do about it."

"But you can't go! I need you!"

"The world needs me. But I'll come back home soon, I promise."

"I'll hold you to that."

"Goodbye, Tia."

The man strode out of the shop, leaving his best friend behind.

"Goodbye... Ashley Winchester."

So, faithful reader, which new group completes their task first?

  • The SeeDs and Frog root out Rinoa
  • Rolf and Lin discover the source of Arima's destruction
  • Ashley stops the Sundeltan tremors

Picture it this way. In order for Rolf and Lin to win, they'd have to survive for a while out in the Phantasy Star 2 overworld, which means a fair bit of levelling. In order for Ashley to stop the earthquakes, he first has to go through the annoying cave to Sundletan, and then find out that he has to go to another cave. In order for Frog and the SeeDs to rescue Rinoa, they have to clear the Guardia cathedral.

Team Seifer already knows where to go, and their dungeon is the shortest (not to mention reasonably linear). I think they accomplish their task first, but Rinoa gets captured a few more times as they try to get back home.

SeeD and Frog: 18
Rolf and Lin: 10
Ashley: 15
