Duelling League Olympics: Fencing

Cecil vs Cloud vs Squall vs Tidus
~superaielman

The start of the RPGDL Olympics is off with a bang! RPGDL champions ran the torch throughout the arena, and opera floozy Celes Chere sung the opening theme. Archery, Wrestling, Blitzballing, Martial Arts, Fencing, Endurance tests, and Swimming are all up for the games. But that's all for next week. This week, the arena opens up with a classic match, a sword fight.

Four of the DL's best known sword fighters have agreed to open the arena in stunning fashion. There will be no limits, no magic, and no utlimate weapons. Just four fighters with simple swords, battling for who's best.

From the old school of swordsmanship, is Cecil Harvey. He brings powerful attacks and good defense, with nothing flashy. Although he's the oldest of the fighters, he's by far the wisest, and no one here has seen as many types of fights as he has.

You can't have a swordfight without Cloud Strife. The Ex Solider looks to overwhelm the other opponents here with his Buster Sword, and his brutal, unrefined style. He's well balanced in most regards, although his lack of formal training could hurt.

Squall Leonheart might be taken lightly by some in the DL arena, but doing so in a swordfight would be a deadly mistake. His gunblade gives him more range than any other fighter, and the SeeD has by far the most training of the the fighters. His cold blooded nature and mental stability are a clear edge in a brawl, where losing your cool could easily be fatal.

And finally, we have Tidus. He doesn't have the raw power of Cloud, the veteran status of Cecil, or the mental edge of Squall. What he does have is speed. By far the faster fighter here, Tidus relies on graceful attacks combined with brutal speed to get the job done. His backround as a Blitzballer gives him lighting reflexes. No one will be able to catch up with him, and he's used to competing in the spotlight.

Which of these four Final Fantasy legends will be the one who takes home honors for winning the opening swordfight?

  • Cecil tanks out a win for the old school
  • Cloud smashes all foes
  • Squall's outthinks his feeble opponents
  • Tidus's speed game dazzles the foes and wins the day

Well, all of them have some kind of advantage over others...Cloud has power, Squall has range, and Tidus has speed...but those things are insignificant.

You see, Cecil is the only one to have enough common sense to wear full body armor in a possibly fatal swordfight. Thus, no matter what others do it'll barely scratch him while he will just impale them or something.

Cecil: 19
Cloud: 7
Squall: 11
Tidus: 9

Cecil just pulls out his amazing paladin skills, and dispatchs all the inferior wussies. I mean, all Tidus has is a shield without armor, Cloud wears a bangle or something like that, and Squall doesn't even wear armor. Cecil will just put his blade into their hearts, and it's game over for the rest, and a victory for the true hero.

To me nothing matters but pure swordmanship here and tidus wins that contest.

Hopeful Death
What's that saying about bringing a knife to a gun fight?

Well, it works for swords too.

Chalk one up to Squall and his superior training and weaponry.

Grefter
You know what is a real advantage in Olympic Fencing? Perfect accuracy. Squall's attacks are unable to be parried by even the seasoned veteran of sword play Cecil.

I choose Squall. He's had plenty of sword practice with Seifer. >>
