Match for the Ages

Whenever there's trouble in the world, a hero will invariably rise from the ranks to fend off said encroaching darkness. This, of course, gets them in real nice with the opposite sex, and allows them to rear offspring. Of course, they eventually die off, but their progeny remains, and the Law of Sequels states that they, too, will end up fighting the same evil that their forefathers ( or foremothers in some cases ) fought.

However, there's always been a question as to who was really the better hero. Was it older, the wiser warriors who first sealed the evils in the world? Or are the descendants of said heroes the stronger ones? Well, it's about time we answered this question, and the best way to do that is with a good old-fashioned fight! It's a match for the ages here in the RPGDL Arena: Team Ancestor vs. Team Descendant!

Team Ancestor is headed by the first heroine ever, Alis Landale. Strong and defensively sound, with a powerful physical attack and unique spell selection, it's no wonder that this girl took down the horrific Dark Force. Aiding her is the famous Maxim, original wielder of the Dual Blade and slayer of the Sinistrals, fighting for truth, justice, and the superiority of the elders. Nina Wyndia the First, while a descendant herself, is really the ancestor here. Despite having fought and lost to her descendant in Breath of Fire Two, she's back in all her glory, and this time she won't hold back, even against her descendant. Her bevy of powerful curative and support magic is sure to come in handy in this battle. Finally, what's a team of heroes without an attack mage? Rounding out this team of ancestors is the legendary Nash Rumack, who decided to take Mia's place in this match so that she wouldn't have to fight, is ready to take aim and Silence his opponents.

Not suprisingly, Team Descendants is led by thier own Landale, Rolf, known by many as the original overpowered hero. Armed with his trademark Megid spell and obscenely high stats, he was the obvious choice to lead this team. Maxim's descendant, the unnamed red-headed hero of Lufia One, is also joining this fight on the side of the descendants, his own Dual Blade and powerful support magics sure to be of great assistance to the team. Nina Wyndia the Second, having already met Nina Wyndia the First in her escapades in Breath of Fire Two, and thus being the proven the only Nina to be related to another, was chosen by default to fight here. Armed with not only her potent attack spells, but also her adorably cute looks, it's no wonder she was a popular choice here. And finally, in addition to being part of the team itself, but also in charge of funding it, Lemina Ausa has joined the team of descendants. Realizing that this was not only an excellent publicity opportunity, but also a chance for her to showcase her excellent offensive spellcasting, she immediately signed up.

And thus, the question will finally be resolved: Who is the superior hero?
  • The Ancestors prove nothing is as good as the Original
  • The Descendants show that power improves over time

Nina cast Hold on Rolf, immobilizing him for Nash's silence spell, Team Ancestors seemed confident they were going to win, based on the biggest threat of Descendants was basically turned into the least of thier worries...

Suddenly, the Lufia 1 Hero shouted "Now!" and suddenly. Next day, there were only 2 words after that which Team Ancestors could remember:

"Mega Damage!"

"BoltX!"

And thus, comes to an exciting conclusion, in that while Old Skool prefers to lengthen things out, New Age characters have already learned that killing things outright is easily the fastest method. This is a lesson Ancestors learned the hard way.

After some inital jeering and complaints of how youngsters these days are so uppity by the Ancestors, and subsequent remarks about how uncool the old fogeys are by the Descendents, the battle began and things began to go wrong for the Ancestors. Rolf's Megid was tearing the team apart, and the nameless Lufia hero kept the spell-casters safe.

Alis knew that soon they would be defeated. It was time to call upon the secret weapon that has served all older video games and characters for generations. Quickly the Ancestors retreated, leaving the Descendants trailing behind, sensing victory at hand.

Alis smirked.

"NOSTALIGA.............ATTACK!"

As thousands and thousands of old-school RPG fans swarmed the Descendants with inane arguments and silly rhetoric, we were once again reminded of how well time fogs the mind and strengthens the old.
