Season 57, Week 4
Gafgarion, Gaff
(Final Fantasy Tactics)

What are a swordmaster's greatest strengths? Pure damage? Guess again. Incredible defenses? Hah, what a joke. No, it's their evasion and ability to double up on damage with fast counters. Well guess what, neither of those mean jack and diddly against the dark swordskills of Gaff Gafgarion. The life-draining Night Sword technique is both ranged and unavoidable, neatly sidestepping Guy's primary advantages, while the dark knight's shield gives him the chance to do some evading of his own. Without his precious counters to help him, Guy won't have the time to get in that crucial critical before Night Sword has sapped the last of his life away.

Cid's down and dirty fighting style did him nothing against Guy other than earning him deep flesh wounds. Gafgarion is like Cid Highwind - a veteran of countless battles, and someone who has learned every trick in the book to keep him alive. All the underhanded tricks in the world won't slow down a swordmaster, though, especially one who gets to act first. Guy will have put a serious hurting on Gaffy before the Dark Knight even gets a turn - worse for Gafgarion is Guy's defense and accuracy, which are far better than the archer Neimi could boast. The march of the swordmaster's about to start again, and sadly for Gafgarion he stands directly in Guy's way.

Drain! Drain! Drain! It's an endless cycle! How can you escape it?! How can you win if your opponent can feast on your own life?! How? Slay 'em in one blow! One overwhelming critical and Gafgarion's cut in twain. Night Sword won't heal up being cut in half, will it?
