The Champion Returns
~SnowFire

Tick.

Cloud was confused. This section of Midgar was unfamiliar to him... strange, constricting, closed in. As if new construction had sprung up to the sides suddenly. Was this some special project of Reeve's? It seemed unusually... colorful, as well.

Tick.

"No exit this way, either." Yuna had returned from her very short scouting mission. "There used to be a Sector exit there, I'm sure, but it's completely covered by other buildings now. If we could even find it it's likely closed as well. Somebody wants to keep us here."

Tick.

"Huh... there we go." Squall had been fiddling with a radio that had been rather bizarrely lying in the street, screeching static. "I think I've found the signal... there." The static faded, becoming... tinny, vaguely Russian music?

Tick.

"That's odd, as well." Yuna had stood to one side to get a better view. "See that building over there, the shorter one with only two stories? It looks like there's some shadow coming across the helipad on top... but... what could be causing it?"

They looked up. And saw their foe. Huge. Inexorable. An ancient evil, from the era of the legendary plumber Mario.

Squall grimaced. "There must be a way to stop it - before it's too late."

Tick.

  • The L-Block ruthlessly crushes Our Heroes. It is invincible.
  • Cloud, Squall, and Yuna find some way to escape.

SnowFire
Yuna could see it now. Squall Lionhearting the L-Block... Yuna riding Valefor and zapping it.... Cloud doing his ridiculous fly-upward move from Advent Children to Omnislash the Block... what could possibly survive such an assault?

"No. Noooo! It'll... It'll never work." Cloud's condition had worsened with alarming speed; he was already rocking his head back and forth. "See.. three of us... can't win... need one."

"What is he talking about? We have no time!" Squall saw the shadow lengthening. The Block would be upon them at any moment now. "I mean, perhaps we could attack these nearby block-housing to try and find a way out... but I don't know if we have the tools for that, really."

Cloud's head straightened suddenly. "It comes! We must... we must reduce ourselves!"

"You're still not making sense!" Yuna was panicing now. "Three? One? We have to act!"

Cloud's eyes shone with a mad gleam. "I understand now! You see... comparing all 4 here... the 3 of us would split our vote! Three Final Fantasy heroes, come on! But the L-Block... it would collect the rest! We'd all be crushed! But.. if it was a one on one match... we just might have a chance!" Squall and Yuna looked on with a mixture of confusion and fear, as Cloud's voice suddenly deepened. "And we all know who has the best-selling game of us... don't we... have at you!"

Cloud took a diving leap at Yuna, his Ultima Weapon drawn with alarming quickness. Yuna, thanks to her natural reflexes, dodged it... but didn't dodge Squall's attack, which exploded both Cloud and Yuna with excellent accuracy. Cloud delivered a powerful blow to Squall's face, giving him a new scar, while Yuna frantically tried to summon an Aeon.... before being Renzokukened out anyway. Cloud finished off the dying Squall, and lay bleeding on the ground as the shadow drew nearer, a crazed look on his face. Madness had already come to Midgar by the time the L-Block perfectly positioned itself on the nearby two-floor helipad, its long side crushing the remains of the heroes.

The Russian music started to play slightly faster as the first three floors of the Sector disappeared into the ether and the higher colorful floors came down to the surface with a deafening crash.

L-Block: 35
Cloud, Squall, and Yuna: 7

The L-Block's opponents stood tall, gathered together, and waited to slay their opponent.

L-Block, in a few swift strokes, slayed them all.

Drat fools were exactly four blocks tall and huddled in the middle of the field. THEY HAD NO CHANCE.

"Whatever, Cloud. I swear to you it'll work."

"Are you sure? I can't exactly replace this thing. It's kinda my whole image."

"You're forgetting the spiky hair and the memory loss."

"Surprise, surprise!"

The two men looked over to Yuna in the middle of their argument. It was surprising how catty she became once marooned with the two of them. Her last nerve probably had something to do with it.

"Just do what the mopey guy with the stupid weapon says so we can all go home. This incessant music is giving me a migrane."

"Fine! Fine! I'm telling you it won't work!"

Cloud wandered over to a narrow but deep gap that had been formed by the falling Tetris blocks, peering down at the blackness to what appeared to be the ground they had started on. Cloud then plunged the Buster Sword into the gap, far enough that he heard the telltale tink of metal hitting the ground.

The ground began to shake, then wholly gave out and they found themselves falling. Cloud and Squall landed awkwardly, nearly breaking their necks in the process. Meanwhile, Yuna floated down, assisted by Valefor, landing gracefully.

Squall groaned a bit as he dusted himself off. "You could have helped us, you know."

Yuna shrugged him off as she walked to the exit. "Didn't want to cramp your style."

Both Cloud and Squall also began to head to the exit, Cloud with an inquisitive look on his face. "So tell me, how'd you know that would work?"

"Easy. How the hell else do you think I spent most of my time in class?"
