Season 51, Week 2
Arnaud G. Vasquez
(Wild ARMs 4)

So here's a question for you: a mage known for his evasion against a swordmaster known for his accuracy. Who wins? If you answered 'the mage because he's not going to fight fair', then you understand how Arnaud does things. Illusion and Slow Down are about the last things that any Fire Emblem character, especially one who relies on speed and accuracy so much, would ever want to get hit with. A follow-up series of Hi-Blasts should put Guy down for the count without Arnaud taking so much as a scratch from the Sacaen's blade. It's a simple plan, and some might claim that it's even too simple for the likes of Arnaud. But any true genius knows the merits of elegance in a plan.

Evade one spell and slash in a flash of glory. That's all the Sacae swordmaster needs to do to secure victory here. Sure, it's a spell that could completely wreck Guy's accuracy if it hit. But it won't. Illusion's going up against one of the most evasive Heavy swordslingers around. Guy can weave in between drops of rain or around a gust of wind, let alone one measly spell. Once it misses, it'll just be the extremely frail Arnaud up against two hits from Guy's Killer Edge. You need to be far tougher from the neck down than Arnaud to withstand the blood drinking that a pair of strikes from a Sword Saint ensues, that's for sure. And Guy certainly isn't afraid to showcase this simple truth.

"Have fun chasing phantoms!"

"Shock, horror, and surprise!"

...really, shock, horror, and surprise were all absent as Guy fumbled around the enclosed space he found himself in, flinging his blade around uselessly as he hit nothing, each and every time.

Arnaud found himself sorely tempted to wait until the swordsman wore himself out, laughing at the spectacle the whole time.

...before he caught the steel-cold glare of Raquel coming at him from the sidelines, piercing his soul with implied horrors better left unmentioned. Then he put the poor guy out of his misery with a few Hi-Blasts.

...Better to stop having fun than to meet punishment at the hands of Raquel Applegate.
