Season 49, Week 3
Rhapthorne
(Dragon Quest 8)

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Rhapthorne has crushed yet another puny insect on his road to a Godlike championship! Next up is a female pretender to the title of goddess, eh? Well, then; this demon will have fun toying with this beautiful prey... While the woman may have her Ray magic to fry lesser duelers alive, Rhapthorne's durability will not shudder one whit against her onslaught. And against his barrage of meteoric strikes and orb smashes, the lesser dueler and pretender to Althena's name shall be driven back into obscurity. What other fate could any who oppose Rhapthorne face?

She may not be the true Althena, but False Althena’s certainly must have all the power (and beauty, at least in her opinion) of the real deal. After all, Ray is a fearsome spell that few can stand against, especially given it’s hyper speed casting time. Rhapthorne may also have powerful spells and similar durability, but his slow speed will be his downfall against the ever so quick False Althena. Besides, do you think such a divine creature could lose to such a hideous blob? Althena has quite the extra motivation to send Rhapthorne back into whatever hideous hole he crawled out of!

"So, what's your trick again?" False Althena asked casually, standing across from the massive Rhapthorne in the Aerial Arena.

"Massive damage off double actions. Yourself?" Rhapthorne asked with a chuckle, making his entire body quiver. False Althena turned a bit green, but shook her head.

"Lightning damage off immense speed."

"Interesting... And your offer before the match. You are willing?" Rhapthorne grinned. False Althena nodded.

"I am. And I have found the perfect recipient, too. She resides in chains below us, and matches the similarity criterion precisely. Are you ready?"

Much to the bemusement of the audience, the match began not with fighting, but with a massive magical circle formed out of thin air, and the two... chanting?

"GET EVERYONE OUT OF THE ARENA!" Katsuya bellowed to Fuse. "THIS CAN'T BE GOOD!"

As the arena evacuated, the DLPD quickly assembled around the arena. Katsuya and Fuse watched from the back of Flammy in some disbelief. "This is huge..." the latter murmured.

And then the circle compacted to the size of a dot, and slowly fell to earth...

"...and that's how sane application of the Weakminded magic can ensure victory over most fellow mages. I'd be happy to teach it to you two, as well." Miguel grinned to Jessica Albert and Lulu. "But I digress. What did you two want to meet up about?"

"Well, we're mainly trying to hunt down Serge, confessionally. He tricked Angelo and Wakka out of a fair bit of cash, and... yeah. I mean, it's not that we need the money!" Jessica rose her hands hastily.

"It's more that we want to thank him for lowering them down a notch or two." Lulu replied with a small smile.

"Aaaah, I see. Serge, eh? Well- what in blazes was that?"

The three looked up... to see a humongous Brahne pulling up a city building by its roots and running massive amounts of electricity through it. Miguel sighed. "Here comes Brahnezilla, destroying the city again."

Both Lulu and Jessica gave him startled looks. "Again?"

"Yeah. Should we go help deal with this?" With that, the three heroes left...
